2022 Honda Hr-v problems
The Honda HR-V is a subcompact crossover SUV (B-segment) manufactured and marketed by Honda over three generations.
The first generation HR-V was based on the Honda Logo. It was marketed from 1999 to 2006 in Europe, Japan and select Asia-Pacific markets – and featured three doors (1999–2003) or five doors (1999–2006). The two configurations were internally designated GH2 and GH4 respectively.
After a seven-year hiatus, Honda reintroduced the nameplate for the second generation HR-V, based on the third-generation Honda Fit. Production began in late 2013 for the Japanese domestic market as the Honda Vezel (Japanese: ホンダ・ヴェゼル, Hepburn: Honda Vezeru), while production started in 2015 for North America, Australia, Brazil and select Asian markets as the HR-V. Apart from Japan, the model is also sold as the Vezel in China.
For the third-generation model, the nameplate is split between two different vehicles, one for the global market (sold as the Vezel in Japan), and a larger model based on the eleventh-generation Civic destined for North America and China. The latter model is sold outside those markets as the Honda ZR-V.
According to Honda, the name "HR-V" stands for "Hi-rider Revolutionary Vehicle", while the name "Vezel" is coined from "bezel", the oblique faces of a cut gem, with the "V" for "vehicle".

Common 2022 Honda Hr-v problems
The Honda HR-V 2022 has been reported to have several common problems, primarily affecting the fuel pump, paint, engine start-stop switch, CVT transmission, sunroof, and rear brake caliper.
- Rearview Camera: Honda has recalled certain 2018-2020 Fit and 2019-2022 HR-V vehicles due to a design error in the audio display power circuit. The rearview camera image may not display when the engine is started with a key, causing these vehicles to fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility." An inoperative rearview camera display can reduce the driver's rear visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.
It is essential to address these issues promptly to ensure the safety and reliability of the Honda HR-V 2022.
What is the common problem of Honda HR-V?
When it comes to Honda HR-V problems, one of the most widely reported issues pertains to the car's windows, specifically the window gaskets. The window gasket is the piece of rubber that runs along the window between the glass and the body of the vehicle. It helps to seal the window as well as hold it in place.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-07-27
- VIN: 3CZRU5H51NM
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES,ENGINE
- Summary: My car frequently accelerates or brakes on its own. It gives brake warnings when no one is near me and the brake or accelerator get stuck.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-21
- VIN: 3CZRU6H32NM
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: All sensor warning lights came on the dashboard. Car would not move. Code showed no gas (tank was full). code for emergency brake (not engaged). Service department. of Honda dealer finally diagnosed fuel sensor getting stuck. Dealer said they would order part and replace it. They never ordered part and will not return our phone calls. They said they would talk to Honda to see if this model Honda was having this problem. No feedback. This situation has happened several times over the last 10 months. Usually happens when parked with engine running or moving very slowly. We turn off car for a few minutes. We are then able to move vehicle. Sensor lights eventually go off. We are afraid to go far from home because we never know when this will happen and if we can get it moving again. This car has about 31000 miles on it.
POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-26
- VIN: 3CZRU5H50NM
- Components: POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
- Summary: When driving on the highway at around 76 mph, the vehicle suddenly presents power loss and won't accelerate nor rev even if I step into the pedal all the way (No light in the dashboard). Going in the high speed lane, I had to stop in the shoulder lane and turn off the vehicle. After turning it on again, a couple of minutes later the problem was back. This would be the third time I have had the problem. Took it to Honda for a checkup and told them that no light came on in the dashboard, and also told them that the problem has been present when going over 70mph, and what they did is try to replicate the problem at 70mph.
POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-04-03
- VIN: 3CZRU6H56NM
- Components: POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
- Summary: Vehicle loses throttle response multiple times a day while traveling on the highway or roads where slowing/stopping isn't frequent. Vehicle will be traveling 50-80mph and will not accelerate even with the pedal on the floor. Vehicle will either maintain speed or start slowing down, occasionally it will rapidly slow down. I will have to fully release the accelerator pedal and lightly slam it all the way to the floor and then the vehicle will decide to respond. A few times while driving in moderate traffic (30-45mph) the throttle will lose all response and will not respond to any pedal input at all for about 5-8 seconds and then will all of a sudden start functioning as intended again. I assume the third issue the vehicle is having with acceleration is related to the first two as well, occasionally it will have very slow acceleration when trying to get up to speed to merge onto the highway. It will take about ¼-⅓ of a mile or about 45-60 seconds to reach 60-70mph. When this occurs I will have the pedal all the way to the floor from the beginning of a fairly long on ramp and by the end of the ramp I will be going no faster than 50mph maybe 55mph. I assume all of this is caused by the CVT transmission or possibly the ECU. I have contacted Honda regarding these issues and they stated that they are aware of these issues and that they are fairly common, and that they also believe that it is a transmission or computer issue, but there is nothing they can nor will do about it because Honda corperate requires them to diagnose every issue through the vehicles computer. So if the vehicle doesn't have a warning light or any DTCs (diagnostic trouble codes) set in the computer they can't (or wont) do anything about it eventhough there is clearly an issue that is entirely able to be diagnosed without a DTC. 90% of the time a bad CVT will never set a DTC. I don't speak on all this because I THINK I know, I speak on this because KNOW I know as I am an ASE certified master technician
SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-04-01
- VIN: 3CZRU6H39NM
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: My HRV with 1800 miles suddenly stopped in an intersection only after owning the vehicle for 2 weeks. The Honda dealership tested the computer system, drove the car, and found no abnormalities. The dealership then asked that i pick up the car and drive it as they were unable to replicate the problem. If it were to happen again I was to let them know. I made it clear that I was not going to take the car back as I believed that the driving the car was posed a safety issue.
VISIBILITY/WIPER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-04-16
- VIN: 3CZRU6H54NM
- Components: VISIBILITY/WIPER
- Summary: Windshield wipers suddenly just stopped working without warning while I was driving my 2022 Honda HRV (36,603 miles) during a rainfall. Thankfully I was not on the interstate and I was able to pull over into a parking lot. I took my car to the Napleton Honda Morton Grove Illinois where they inspected my vehicle. They said I need to replace the windshield wiper motor and linkage ($1100!). The car gave me NO warning messages leading up this this event. This could have been catastrophic to me and other drivers if I were in a heavy rainstorm on the interstate when this windshield wiper failure occurred. Please investigate to see if a recall is needed.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-03-28
- VIN: 3CZRU5H50NM
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: The transmission is making a growling sound, also while driving at time when go to accelerate faster on freeway it stays where it's at even if you push pedal all the way down. Took to Honda dealer they acknowledge something is wrong with transmission but don't know what, so they want me to wait until a light comes on and to bring it back. I called Honda Corp but they were no help at all. Told them I was only 2500 miles from being out of warranty and if they could extend the warranty but was told no, but they would note about the problem. I am worried about my safety as they do acknowledge that there is a problem but dont know what and want me to continue driving it. I drive lots of miles everyday due to the type of work that I do. I was told not to worry because even if transmission fails while driving I always have my brakes still. Not much comfort in that responce.
STEERING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-02-25
- Number Of Injuries: 1
- Crash: 1
- VIN: 3CZRU6H31NM
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: Sticky Steering: Experienced a clunking sound from front drivers side steering the last two weeks. Last night while driving approximately 15mph the steering got stiff then overcorrected, veering off to the left into oncoming traffic. The car came to a rest after hitting a curb and the airbags deployed. Both injuries and damaged sustained. This is the second occurrence of the vehicle suddenly veering off to the left lane.
AIR BAGS,SEAT BELTS,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-07-12
- Number Of Injuries: 1
- Crash: 1
- VIN: 3CZRU6H59NM
- Components: AIR BAGS,SEAT BELTS,SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: The contact owns a 2022 Honda HR-V. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle the "brake" warning light had intermittently flashed on and off. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the brake calipers were leaking fluid and the calipers were serviced. No further information was available. Later while pulling into a parking space and pressing the brake pedal, the pedal extended to the floor and the vehicle crashed into a metal fireman's latter. During the crash, the vehicle sustained severe front-end damage but no air bags deployed, the seat belt malfunctioned and did not secure the driver. The driver sustained a fractured lumbar spine vertebrae and was transported to the hospital. A police report was taken at the scene and the vehicle was towed away. The cause of the failures were not determined. The local dealer was notified of the crash. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 5,000.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-03-31
- VIN: 3CZRU5H54NM
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: Received the following message on the infotainment screen upon starting my car: "system lost power and is acquiring its location from the GPS satellites. This usually takes less than 10 minutes. * Start the engine. * Park the vehicle in an open area away from trees, power lines, and tall buildings. * Remove loose articles, mobile phones, or electrical accessories located near the GPS antenna. * If this screen is displayed repeatedly when starting the vehicle, see your dealer" Took the car back to the dealership, they ran some basic tests and said they couldn't replicate the issue and to bring it back if it happened again. When it happened again, I returned to a Honda dealership that told me that I would have to pay a diagnostic fee to determine what was wrong and that since the error wasn't happening at the time more than likely they wouldn't be able to find anything. I even had a recording of it happening on my phone when it did happen. I have had this happen at least 20-25 times since I purchased the car in April 2022. It renders the infotainment completely useless for any sort of navigation, reverse camera, or radio.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,AIR BAGS,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-07-12
- Number Of Injuries: 1
- Crash: 1

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-11-13
- VIN: 3CZRU6H16NM
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: 2022 HRV battery is draining while parked. I have had the new car for 2 years, low mileage with no problems until this past month October/November 2023 the battery has drained 3 times. Honda of Frankfort, KY replaced the battery (said it was defective). The car worked fine for a couple of weeks, then the battery drained again yesterday, November 13, 2023. I had it towed to Frankfort, Ky Neil Huffman Honda yesterday. I have had a tow company come to the car 3 times in the past month. The problem is probably not the battery, but something is draining the battery. Definitely a safety issue if car will not start when it is needed. No warning lights came on.
FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-10-17
- VIN: 3CZRU5H33NM
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: Use this vehicle as a daily commuter for work/school/other personal trips in good faith it would be a solid, reliable car. Had it since February 2022, brand new right off the lot no issues. One morning driving to work, the tire pressure, parking brake, and check engine light indicators all come on while I'm on the highway. I exit to an off ramp and pull into a parking lot to go through the different gears and everything seems okay, so I proceed to return to my commute. Start coming to a stop light at an intersection and the vehicle stalls completely as I decelerate. I go to start the vehicle again as I'm in an active lane of traffic and it won't start. Try starting it again and it starts but the parking brake is fully engaged (not by me setting it but the vehicle self-engaged it) and I can't move the vehicle as it won't dis-engage the parking brake when I hit the gas. I had to get it towed to the dealership and mechanics told me later it was a fuel canister failure, and it isn't uncommon for the sensor in that element to fail which certainly didn't inspire great comfort. I drive it 5 miles after they assured me it was taken care of and all the same indicators come back on. Return to the dealership and they re-assessed the issue is farther down near the tank. Been driving it since the second repair attempt and so far no issues. Very disappointed and hesitant about this model's safety and reliability especially hearing about the rear-differential investigation and others having it decelerate at highway speeds suddenly. As this is my first car, I had hoped this was the right choice and would be solid for years to come, but now I question whether I trust the HRV model and Honda in general.
FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-05-12
- Number Of Injuries: 1
- Crash: 1
- VIN: 3CZRU6H55NM

- Summary: 100% system failure vehicle totalled personal injury I have all data retrieved and filed by expert
STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-09-16
- VIN: 3CZRU5H19NM
- Components: STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
- Summary: Engine failed to start when turning the key in the ignition. Occurred three separate occasions within 30 days @ 18,000. Engine light and electronic steering system lights remained on. Vehicle started after waiting one hour. On the third occasion, the car was towed to the dealer, and a service advisor experienced the same issue. However, 30 minutes later, a mechanic was able to start the engine at every attempt. There were no warning lights, other than the lights remaining on the dashboard when attempting to turn the key. (I have video of the experience - please see photo). I am submitting this notice because on all 3 occasions, Honda dealer performed diagnostics, but could not find an issue that caused the failed start. I was reluctant to keep a car with a problem that statistically would reoccur in the future, or perhaps might experience an even worse electrical problem. The dealer "bought" the car back, and sold me a 2024 - same model. There were some additional costs and of course the interest rate was higher. I agreed to all of the conditions for the new purchase, and I believe the dealer did right by me with the purchase of the newer model. HOWEVER, 3 days after I purchased the 2024 HR-V, the dealer put the 2022 HR-V on the lot and is attempting to resell it. I find this wrong and possibly a risk to the new owner. I have every reason to believe the issue for the faulty electrical system was not discovered over the short time (3 days) from when I turned in the car, and when I saw it on the lot for resell. Other than the electrical issue, the vehicle was very reliable and I took very good care with it. If not for anticipating the problem would reoccur when I was driving or wouldn't start in an emergency, or perhaps reoccur after the warranty expired, I traded it in to the dealer and purchased a new 2024 model. Thank you.
SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-08-21

- VIN: 3CZRU6H59NM
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES,ENGINE
- Summary: I purchased the vehicle on 2/17/22 and shortly afterwards started noticing problems starting with acceleration car wouldn’t go past 45 mph or lower. The car radio system has static can’t get reception; the battery died requiring a jump. On 9/21/22 and January 10, 2023 I took car to dealer about these problems and other concerns and they said couldn’t verify my concerns. On 5/9/23 I set out for my first long distance trip from Vallejo CA, to Las Vegas NV after driving approximately 200-300 miles the dashboard light up light a Christmas tree with several system problem warnings as follow: Power Steering System (EPS) problem, Road Departure Mitigation, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) problem, Emissions System problem, All Wheel Drive System problem, Brake System problem, Brake Hold system problem, Hill Start Assist problem, Tire Pressure Monitoring System, Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) continuously flashing, Hold Brake light, Oil light flashing and the Drivers and Front Passenger Airbag light flashing. I had to stop in Los Angeles CA, Honda service center and they couldn’t do a diagnostic test that day and warning lights went off after technician disabled the Road departure mitigation system and was told it was safe to continue on to Vegas. However, all warning light as mentioned came back on and remained on. I took the car to Honda West in Vegas on 5/11/23 and was told car had a misfiring code. Diagnostic test performed and multiple repair codes were detected but they couldn’t duplicate concerns, took fuel sample test and it passed, cleared DTCs performed final test verified no DTCs returned or currently present/stored and they returned car to me. On 5/15/23 left Vegas and the same system warning lights came back on, stopped in Los Angeles again and stayed overnight and the lights were off the next morning. I took vehicle to Avery Green Honda after speaking to Sales Manager Sean Shahid where the car remains to date for further diagnostic testing.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-03-09
- VIN: 3CZRU6H59NM
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: This exact message was displayed on the infotainment screen when i started my car on march 9th 2023, march 15th and march 25th. The first time it happened i took the car back to the dealer as I had just picked it up from them approximately 2weeks prio after they had finished repairing the electrical system from a prior complaint about the car that i made to NHTSA.GOV in January 3rd 2023: "system lost power and is acquiring its location from the GPS satellites. This usually takes less than 10 minutes. * Start the engine. * Park the vehicle in an open area away from trees, power lines, and tall buildings. * Remove loose articles, mobile phones, or electrical accessories located near the GPS antenna. * If this screen is displayed repeatedly when starting the vehicle, see your dealer."

STEERING,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-03-09
- VIN: 3CZRU5H32NM
- Components: STEERING,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: **I have made the dealership aware of the ongoing situation as well as Honda Corporate but I am waiting on a call back.* A month ago, I had my car on cruise control going around 76mph on flat land. After a while, while driving on flat land, my RPM's shot up to almost 6000 and the speed got up to 88mph in less than 10 seconds. I pulled over, shut the car off so I could calm down before driving again. Later that day, I was driving around 77mph on the interstate again but this time I was NOT using cruise control and my car dropped to around 50mph almost immediately, even with my foot on the pedal all the way to the floor but the car would not accelerate. During this time the car jerked forward really hard (I was told the CVT is why) but also multiple dash lights came on. I had picture and video proof of this, took it to the dealership but they could not find any reason. Since this day, my car has lost speed multiple times while driving but the steering wheel has started locking up the last few times making it impossible to even steer and get off of the roadway while the car is dropping speed. This is a huge liability for myself with my children in the car as well as other drivers on the road, as I was almost rear-ended by an 18 wheeler yesterday when this happened. It does not do this consistently but over the past month, it has happened about 4-5 times a week, sometimes more.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-02-07
- VIN: 3CZRU6H17NM
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE
- Summary: The vehicle started to encounter mechanical issues 10 days after delivery. The vehicle's radio, Apple Carplay, Bluetooth, and anti-theft system/radio unit started to encounter electrical issues, stating it had lost power. The issues were not as common at first but, grew to be persistent as the vehicle continued to be driven. The vehicle was in for service approximately 1-2 weeks ago from today's date and all the issues have started again. The issues that persist are the vehicle not being able to start multiple times in a week (does not depend if the vehicle is hot or cold, and/or if the vehicle has been recently driven or sitting), Apple Carplay consistently disconnecting, the anti-theft system/radio unit continually losing power and needing to acquire GPS satellites. The dealership did conclude that the battery was at fault for the no-start issues and replaced the battery, unfortunately, that did not solve the issues and they continue to arise on a consistent basis thereafter. The other issues could not be replicated and were recommended that the phones connected via Apple Carplay be updated & repaired, the phones that were connected were already up to date in the IOS version, and the Hondailink version, and were using Apple oem cables. These issues were not solved as well, and could not be replicated by the dealership. Most recently, the vehicle had a hard time starting and refused to accelerate above 40 mph.

Great price for a simple, compact, and smooth driving vehicle. Honda holds car value for the future.

I'm really enjoying getting to know the car and how fun it is to drive. However, I do think that Honda could improve its standard features. For example, it's disappointing that variable intermittent wipers aren't included on the sport trim model. Even my prior car from 2011 had this basic function.

Beautiful car! It's my 4th Honda. Hondas run forever! I hope this one runs at least as long as my previous ones did.

The car is really spacious and runs so smoothly! It's a fantastic SUV for a small family.

The Honda Hr-V Sport has great room and mileage, but unfortunately, I have experienced several electrical problems with it. When I took it back to Honda, they initially suggested that it was a battery issue. However, I pointed out that I had only owned the car for two years, so it couldn't be the battery. They didn't have an answer for me. Interestingly, my daughter also owns a Honda Hr-V Sport, albeit in a different color, and she had to have her battery changed too. Recently, we received a recall notice for electronic problems, so we have made an appointment to take our cars back to Honda to have the issues fixed. Unfortunately, we have both been stranded by our cars not turning on, and my daughter's car even turned off while she was driving it. She had to call her insurance roadside assistance, and the guy who helped her said that it looked like her battery wasn't charging properly.

My previous car was a CRV that I absolutely loved. That might be why I don't feel as safe in the HRV, which is genuinely a much smaller vehicle.

I am not satisfied with my new 2022 Honda HRV LX due to its choppy ride and noise. The infotainment center is also disappointing as it does not notify me of text messages, but rather keeps my phone from notifying me. However, I do appreciate the ability to listen to my music on my phone via Bluetooth. Although I was initially drawn to the car for its attractive appearance, white with grey interior, I do not plan on keeping it for long.

This is my first Honda and I am happy with my purchase. However, there are a few things that I hope will be improved in the future. The car is a thing of beauty, with its gorgeous lines and aerodynamic design. It drives like a dream on the highway, with smooth acceleration and minimal cabin noise. The spacious storage in the back is also a plus, and the backseats fold down easily. I was even rear-ended by a drunk driver and the car held up well. As a short person, I appreciate the adjustable driver's seat and the wide windows that give me great visibility. However, the seat backs are oddly shaped and uncomfortable for napping during long drives. Additionally, there is no elbow rest and the center storage is not very practical. Overall, I am satisfied with my Honda purchase and hope that future models will address these minor issues. As it stands, navigating the car can be a bit tricky and distracting, and small items may easily get lost. It's best to avoid eating messy foods like pizza or bread, as crumbs can quickly accumulate in hard-to-reach places. Additionally, driving at night in cold weather can cause the windscreen to fog up, which can be frustrating. However, the car's safety features are top-notch, making it an excellent choice for families. While it may not be the best option for sporty driving, it's a solid and attractive vehicle. The only downsides are the lack of storage space for the driver and the difficulty of opening and closing the hatchback-style trunk, especially for shorter drivers. These minor inconveniences can be frustrating, but overall, the car is a great choice. Perhaps Honda could consider a lateral trunk opener like the one on the Ford Ecosport and provide more storage space up front.

Hi there! I recently purchased a new 2022 HRV and unfortunately, I've been experiencing some issues with the paint chipping off. I had an aftermarket clear coat applied, but unfortunately, more spots of chipping were noticed. I reached out to Honda and had an evaluation via the dealership's preferred body shop, but unfortunately, Honda has refused to amend the situation. It's disappointing to see the spot on the right rear door growing and it will probably be a dime size by next year. It's interesting to note that I have a 2005 Civic that someone put dents in the entire driver's side, but the paint never chipped. I'm hoping that Honda can address this issue and improve their product. Thank you for your time!
