2003 Dodge Ram 3500 problems
The Ram pickup (marketed as the Dodge Ram until 2010) is a full-size pickup truck manufactured by Stellantis North America (formerly Chrysler Group LLC and FCA US LLC) and marketed from 2010 onwards under the Ram Trucks brand. The current fifth-generation Ram debuted at the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan, in January of that year.
Previously, Ram was part of the Dodge line of light trucks. The name Ram was first used in 1981 model year Dodge Trucks in October 1980, following the retiring and rebadging of the Dodge D series pickup trucks as well as B-series vans, though the company had used a ram's-head hood ornament on some trucks as early as 1933.
Ram trucks have been named Motor Trend magazine's Truck of the Year eight times; the second-generation Ram won the award in 1994, the third-generation Ram heavy-duty won the award in 2003, the fourth-generation Ram Heavy Duty won in 2010 and the fourth-generation Ram 1500 won in 2013 and 2014, and the current fifth-generation Ram pickup became the first truck in history to win the award three times, winning in 2019, 2020, and 2021.

Common 2003 Dodge Ram 3500 problems
The 2003 Dodge Ram 3500 is a popular heavy-duty pickup truck, but like any vehicle, it has its share of common problems. Here are some of the most frequently reported issues by owners of this model:
- Common-Rail System Failure: The 2003 Dodge Ram 3500 is equipped with a common-rail injection system, which is prone to failure. Owners have reported issues with the injectors and CP3 pump, which can cause excessive heat and potentially melt a piston. This issue is most noticeable after the truck reaches 200,000 miles. It's crucial to have the components of the common-rail system inspected and replaced if necessary to prevent major damage.
- Dashboard Cracks: The dashboard of the 2003 Dodge Ram 3500 is made of inferior quality material that easily cracks and shows signs of disintegration. The vent grates for the heating system and speakers seem to have the most issues. Replacing or repairing the dashboard is a common solution to this problem.
- Heating and Cooling System: Owners of the 2003 Dodge Ram 3500 have reported issues with the heating and cooling system, including reduced force and longer defrost times. Regular maintenance is essential to keep the system running efficiently.
- Transmission Issues: The automatic plug-and-play programmers used in the 2003 Dodge Ram 3500 may not be able to handle the power demands of the vehicle. This can lead to transmission issues, which can be diagnosed and serviced by professionals.
In summary, the 2003 Dodge Ram 3500 is a powerful and reliable heavy-duty pickup truck, but like any vehicle, it has its share of common problems. These issues include the Death Wobble, common-rail system failure, dashboard cracks, heating and cooling system problems, and transmission issues. Regular maintenance and inspections are essential to keep the truck running smoothly and prevent major damage or accidents.

MY QUESTION IS SIMPLE, HOW CAN A MANUFACTURE DECIDE TO STOP MAKING A CRUCIAL COMPONENT TO THE AIR BAG SYSTEM. I WAS ADVISED THAT IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH THE AIR BAGS WOULD NOT INFLATE. IT HAS BEEN OVER A MONTH NOW AND THE DEALERSHIP STILL HASN'T LOCATED A MODULE BUT ARE CONTINUING TO SEARCH FOR ONE. 2003 Dodge Ram 3500 recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 9 recalls for different components of the 2003 Dodge Ram 3500.
- Manufacturer: Chrysler (FCA US LLC)
- Park It: 1
- Components: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:PASSENGER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE
- Summary: Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2003 Dodge Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 trucks manufactured August 29, 2002, to July 25, 2003 to address a safety defect in the passenger side frontal air bag inflator which may produce excessive internal pressure causing the inflator to rupture upon deployment of the air bag. This recall addresses both the passenger side frontal air bags that were originally installed in the vehicles, as well as replacement air bags that may have been installed as replacement service parts. A replacement air bag may have been installed, as one example, if a vehicle had been in a crash necessitating the replacement of the passenger side frontal air bag.
- Consequence: In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the passengers frontal air bag, the inflator could rupture with metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants potentially resulting in serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Owners are advised not to drive their vehicles until the remedy is completed. Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will replace the passenger frontal air bag, free of charge. The recall began on March 16, 2016. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is R26. Note: This recall partially supersedes recall 14V770.
