2001 Ford Expedition problems
The Ford Expedition is a full-size three-row SUV, manufactured by Ford. Introduced for the 1997 model year as the successor of the Ford Bronco, the Expedition was the first full-size Ford SUV sold with a four-door body. For its entire production life, the Ford Expedition has been derived from the corresponding generation of the Ford F-150 in production, sharing some body and mechanical components. The fourth-generation Ford Expedition began production for the 2018 model year. Similar to the configuration of the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, the Ford Expedition is sold in regular and extended lengths (the Ford Expedition EL/Max); sold since 2007, the latter functionally serves as the replacement for the Ford Excursion.
Since 1997, the Lincoln division has marketed the Ford Expedition as the Lincoln Navigator, the first full-size SUV sold by a luxury auto brand in North America (the Expedition was never sold as a Mercury). The third Ford vehicle to use the Expedition nameplate, the full-size SUV follows a 1992 F-150 Eddie Bauer concept vehicle and a 1995 trim level package on the two-door Ford Explorer Sport.
Prior to 2009, the Ford Expedition was assembled at the Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne, Michigan (previously home to the Ford Bronco). After 2009, the Ford Expedition was moved to the Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville, Kentucky.

- Summary: I gave a friend a ride to Wal mart in my 2001 Expedition to buy some power steering fluid, luckily I parked over by the automotive section. I turned it off and waited in vehicle till he returned, about 7 or 8 minutes. I started the engine, grabbed the brake and dropped it in reverse when engine revved sending us backwards completely out of control with both feet on the brakes, spinning rear wheels and I turned ignition key off as quick as possible but violently slammed into a truck semitrailer only, parked alongside Wal mart tire shop. Completely totalled out the entire rear passenger liftback, taillights, tailgate, rear hatch window, left rear luever window, left tailpipe, tow hitch package and rear bumper. With only min. coverage, I'm now w/o a vehicle after completely replacing entire front and rear suspension, steering and tires plus alignment less than 6 months prior, with 275000 miles. Thank you very much Ford Motor Co. This was NOT an issue of driver error !.. I WILL find a way to legally hold you responsible for my loss, making FORD liable for repairing or replacing my vehicle ! This happened on Aug 29th, 2022 approx. 4pm at Wal mart property, in Ukiah, CA. 95482

This SUV is not only roomy but also very safe, making it a great choice for any weather condition. It has good pick up from a stop and can get up to 19 MPG on a long trip, with an average of 14-16 MPG. Overall, it is a well-built domestic SUV.

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share my experience with my car. I've driven 20,000 miles in one year and so far, I haven't had any problems. It's been a great car for my family with kids - there's lots of room! I actually got more than what I expected. Thanks for listening!

I love this vehicle! After test driving three other Eddie Bauer Expeditions (two '02's and one '98 model), I settled on the '01 XLT because of its nearly identical options package and $10,000 less price tag. The most surprising thing about the Expedition 4x4 is the fact that it rides like a luxury car, handles like a much smaller vehicle than it actually is, and has outstanding traction (nothing stops this thing). The only thing I could ask for is a little firmer shift from the 4-speed auto-transmission. But then again, I am partial to 400+ horsepower vehicles, and I guess it's not really bad for a bone stock family ride (my three daughters and my son love it)!

I bought this car brand new with 15 miles on it. Since then, I've absolutely loved it! It's incredibly roomy and comfortable, making it perfect for my family's frequent trips from Arizona to California. I'm happy to report that it has never broken down on us, and we haven't had any major mechanical issues. Even with 210K miles on it, it still runs like a dream! I highly recommend this car to anyone!

I owned a 1995 and a 1997 Tahoe 4WD, but unfortunately had to get rid of them before the 36000 mile warranty ran out due to poor build quality and frequent in-warranty repairs. However, I am happy to report that my EXPEDITION is holding up well and I have not had to take it to the dealer for any warranty work yet. During my next visit, I will mention a few minor issues such as the windshield washer indicator giving a false out-of-fluid reading, the heater strip in the back window losing effectiveness, the radio skipping channels on its own, and the tires making a thud sound when driving above 55MPH. These issues are small in comparison to the problems I faced with my previous Tahoes. The mileage is around 14 MPG.

I purchased this vehicle used with 25k miles. Despite its attractive appearance, interior room, handling and comfort, it has been a nightmare. However, I have had the necessary repairs done with confidence, including the rear windshield wiper motor (twice), ignition coils (3 times), outside power mirror motor, emissions sensor, and radio.

We've owned our 2001 Expy for almost three years since we bought it new. We've only had two problems, both of which were fixed under warranty during a recent visit to the dealer. The first issue was the rear wiper stopped functioning, which was fixed by replacing the wiper motor. The second issue was a loss of power when it was very hot outside, which was fixed by upgrading the engine computer chip. Our only major complaint is the awful gas mileage, which is usually around 13-14 mpg. It's to be expected for such a behemoth, but it's still poor.

Big repairs, but we put on big miles, too. We're now on our third set of tires. We had to replace the front hubs at about 160K miles, but amazingly, it's still comfortable for a big old tub that's as worn out as ours. We also had to replace the gas tank midway because it was warped, which cost about $900.

This vehicle is performing great and runs really well. It's a 4x4 and has a lot of power.
