2007 Ford Expedition problems
The Ford Expedition is a full-size three-row SUV, manufactured by Ford. Introduced for the 1997 model year as the successor of the Ford Bronco, the Expedition was the first full-size Ford SUV sold with a four-door body. For its entire production life, the Ford Expedition has been derived from the corresponding generation of the Ford F-150 in production, sharing some body and mechanical components. The fourth-generation Ford Expedition began production for the 2018 model year. Similar to the configuration of the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, the Ford Expedition is sold in regular and extended lengths (the Ford Expedition EL/Max); sold since 2007, the latter functionally serves as the replacement for the Ford Excursion.
Since 1997, the Lincoln division has marketed the Ford Expedition as the Lincoln Navigator, the first full-size SUV sold by a luxury auto brand in North America (the Expedition was never sold as a Mercury). The third Ford vehicle to use the Expedition nameplate, the full-size SUV follows a 1992 F-150 Eddie Bauer concept vehicle and a 1995 trim level package on the two-door Ford Explorer Sport.
Prior to 2009, the Ford Expedition was assembled at the Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne, Michigan (previously home to the Ford Bronco). After 2009, the Ford Expedition was moved to the Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville, Kentucky.

IT IDLES GREAT, SEEMS TO CHANGE GEARS SMOOTHLY (AUTOMATIC). SOMETIMES THE VIBRATION IS MINIMAL BUT OTHER TIMES IT'S QUITE NOTICABLE, BUT USUALLY LASTS LESS THAN 15 SECONDS. IF THE RPMS ARE OVER 1.5 IT ONLY DOES IT LESS THAN 5 SECONDS. I WONDERED IF IT IS FAULTY MOTOR MOUNTS OR TRANSMISSION MOUNTS? I'VE HAD TIRES ROTATED, BOUGHT A NEW SET OF TIRES, SHOCKS ARE FINE. I'VE TRIED EVERYTHING.

AT THE POINT THE FRONT WHEELS LOCKED UP AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO ROCK BACK AND FORTH AND SWERVE ON THE ROADWAY. TO PREVENT A ROLLOVER THE VEHICLE WAS STEERED OFF THE ROAD WHEN IT JUMPED AN EMBANKMENT AND PLOWED THROUGH 25 FEET MUD AND BRUSH BEFORE COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE BRAKES WERE COMPLETELY INOPERABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS SHUT OFF AND LEFT UNTIL IT COULD BE TOWED OUT. AFTER A FEW HOURS THE CALIPERS RELEASED. THE SECOND INCIDENT OCCURRED WHEN VEHICLE WAS STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN. WHEN ACCELERATED WAS PRESSED THE FRONT WHEELS WERE LOCKED UP AND THE BACK WHEELS WERE SPINNING. CAR HAD ONLY BEEN RUNNING FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTES WHEN THIS HAPPENED. AFTER DIAGNOSIS IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE BRACKETS THAT HOLD THE BRAKE LINES ON THE FRONT FAILED AND WHEEL ROTATION WERE THROUGH THE LINES WHICH CAUSED THE BRAKE LINES TO INTERMITTENTLY COLLAPSE. ALL BRAKE LINES, CALIPERS, TIE RODS, SHOCK/STRUTS, BRAKES, ROTORS, UPPER CONTROL ARMS AND LOWER BALL JOINTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED ON BOTH FRONT AND REAR. VEHICLE HAD APPROXIMATELY 180,000 MILES WHEN BOTH INCIDENTS OCCURRED 3 MONTHS APART.

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2019-06-19
- VIN: 1FMFU16547L
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: WHEN YOU DRIVE THE VEHICLE AND COME TO A STOP, IE: (INTERSECTION) THE VEHICLE WILL GO INTO NEUTRAL WHILE IT'S IN DRIVE AND UPON PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, IT ENTERS A SAFETY TYPE MODE WITH NO INDICATION AND WILL REMAIN IN GEAR ZERO FOR APPROXIMATELY 1-2 SECONDS AND THEN AS IT STARTS MOVING, IT DOES SO WITH VERY LITTLE POWER LEAVING THE VEHICLE IN DANGER OF GETTING STRUCK BY ANOTHER VEHICLE FROM CROSS TRAFFIC. AT THIS TIME, I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IS CAUSING THIS ISSUE BUT IT SEEMS TO BE COMMON VIA THE INTERNET COMPLAINTS ON THE 6R80 TRANSMISSIONS ON FORD VEHICLES. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME 4 TIMES WHILE TRYING TO CROSS MULTI LANE HIGHWAYS BUT THE MOST RECENTLY CAME VERY CLOSE TO WHAT COULD HAVE ENDED INTO A MULTIPLE FATAL ACCIDENT WITH A SEMI TRUCK WHO WAS BARELY ABLE TO STOP IN TIME BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO CROSS A 3 LANE HIGHWAY. I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO HAVE THE VEHICLE GO BACK TO NORMAL BY SIMPLY SHUTTING OFF THE VEHICLE AND RESTARTING IT. WHAT MAKES THIS REALLY DANGEROUS, IS THE DRIVER SUCH AS ME BEING UNAWARE THAT MY VEHICLE IS IN A SAFETY RESTRICTED POWER OUTPUT WHEN THIS HAPPENS. NO WARNING UNTIL YOU COMMIT INTO A DEADLY SITUATION. PEOPLE REPORT THIS ISSUE ON THE INTERNET AS THE VEHICLE GOING INTO NEUTRAL BY ITSELF WHEN COMING TO A STOP. WHEN THEY TRY TO RESUME DRIVING THE VEHICLE RPMS WILL INCREASE AND THE VEHICLE MIGHT OR MIGHT NOT POP INTO GEAR SOFTLY OR FORCEFULLY. SOMETIMES WITH FULL ACCELERATION AUTHORITY AND SOMETIMES WITH A MAX ATTAINABLE SPEED OF 5 MPH OR LESS DEPENDING ON THE GRADIENT AND TERRAIN UNTIL YOU CAN REACH A SAFE SPOT AND RESTART THE VEHICLE.

- Date Of Incident: 2018-12-05
- VIN: 1FMFU17537L
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC)
- Summary: AS SOON AS YOU START THE VEHICLE THE BATTERY SYMBOL DISPLAYS ON THE DASH, IT GOES ON AND OFF CHIMING REPEATEDLY, THEN SWITCHES FROM BATTERY SYMBOL TO WRENCH SYMBOL AND THEN MY ENTIRE GAUGE CLUSTER STARTS. EVERY LIGHT GOES ON AND OFF REPEATEDLY, THE RPM GAUGE AND MPH DROPS TO ZERO AND THE ENGINE CLUNKS REALLY LOUD (WHILE DRIVING), THE AC OR HEAT WILL COMPLETELY TURN OFF AND ON, THE HEADLIGHTS FLICKER AND DIM ON AND OFF AT NIGHT WHILE DRIVING, BAD VIBRATION, LOUD GROWL TYPE IDLE SOUND, THE RADIO SHUTS OFF, WHEN YOU TURN THE HEATER ON IT REPEATEDLY CLUNKS IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE UNTIL YOU TURN AC ON AGAIN OR SHUT IT OFF, REAR AIR SUSPENSION LIGHT GOES ON AND OFF WHILE DRIVING. THIS ALL HAPPENS WHENEVER IT WANTS. I SHUT OFF THE CAR AND RESTART AND THE PROBLEM WILL STAY GONE AND DRIVE NORMAL UNTIL IT COOLS AGAIN AND THEN RESTART THE VEHICLE. THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN TESTED AT 3 SHOPS AND TURNED AWAY BY ALL BECAUSE THEY DON'T KNOW WHERE TO START AS THEY ARE SCANNING THE VEHICLE AND 17 CODES CAME UP. THEY STARTED TESTING EACH ITEM WITH A CODE AND ALL CAME BACK AS FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. SO I BELIEVE IT'S EITHER ELECTRICAL OR ONE OF THE BRAINS/COMPUTERS OF THE VEHICLE?. IT IS BECOMING A SAFETY CONCERN AND I NEED HELP.

ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2018-01-21
- VIN: 1FMFU155X7L
- Components: ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: MY TRUCK WAS PURCHASED NEW AND I HAVE RECENTLY HAD MORE FUEL GAS WASTE QUICKLY IN THE PAST YEAR. I RECENTLY HAD THE FUEL LINE CHANGED IN JUNE 2017 BECAUSE A SPARK PLUG BURNT OUT AND CAUSED IT TO HAVE A LEAK THAT WAS DANGEROUSLY CLOSE TO THE GAS TANK. I HAVE 123K MILES ON IT AND THE CHECK ENGINE LINE COMES ON EVERY TIME AFTER HALF A GAS TANK IS DONE. I HAD THE TRUCK DRIVING AND IT SHUTS OFF ON ITS OWN. SOMETIMES IT WILL HAVE A STRONG SHAKING OF THE MOTOR OR NO WARNING AT ALL WHILE DRIVING ON THE ROAD. I'M VERY CONCERNED BECAUSE WE THOUGHT IT WAS THE CAMSHAFT WHICH IS WHAT THE ERROR CODE POPS UP AND THE SPARK PLUGS AND COILS HAVE BEEN REPLACED. EVERY THING ELSE HAS BEEN MAINTAINED BUT I'M STILL HAVE THE ENGINE AND FUEL PROBLEM. THE GAS GOES SO FAST AND THIS IS A V8 WHERE I USUALLY DRIVE A 6 MILE TO WORK NOW SAYS IT HAS BEEN A 40 MILE DRIVE. DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO AND MAY TAKE IT BACK TO TRADE FOR ANOTHER VEHICLE BRAND. I HAD TO PARK THE TRUCK AFTER IT SHUT OFF ON ME AGAIN ON A SIDE STREET BEFORE GETTING ON THE HIGHWAY.
ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2017-12-03
- VIN: 1FMFU16507L
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: I HAVE THE 5.4 ENGINE IN MY 2007 FORD EXPEDITION WITH ONLY 70,000 MILES WHICH I PURCHASED IN 2007. I AM NOW EXPERIENCING CAM SENSOR PROBLEMS, THROTTLE BODY PROBLEMS AND NEED MAJOR REPAIRS. I HAVE VISITED MANY SITES AND UNDERSTAND THAT FORD HAS BEEN SUED BECAUSE OF COMPLAINTS WITH THIS PARTICULAR ENGINE AND NOTHING CAME FROM THIS SUIT. THIS STARTED AROUND 2-3 WEEKS AGO, I HAD BEEN TRAVELING FOR 2-1/2 HOURS AND JUST PULLED OFF THE HIGHWAY TO ENTER INTO MY HOUSING PLAN, WHEN MY CAR LOST RPMS, BECAME VERY ROUGH, AND THEN STALLED. WHEN THE VEHICLE IS ON OPEN IT ROAD IT RIDES GREAT UNTIL YOU SLOW DOWN AND THE RPM FALLS, THEN IT STUMBLES AND STALLS. I HAD AT THE DEALERSHIP A COUPLE OF TIMES, BUT UNTIL CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, I COULD NOT GET IT DIAGNOSED. OVER THE WEEKEND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT FINALLY LITE AND AS I STATED IT IS THE CAM POSITION SENORS AND STATES THAT THE SYSTEMS TOO RICH. I TALKED WITH A FORD REP TODAY AND THIS WILL BE ABOUT A $2000 REPAIR BILL, BUT UNTIL I CAN GET IT TO THEM AND THEY PLACE ON THEIR COMPUTER, THEY CANNOT GIVE ME THEIR FINAL ESTIMATE IF IT CAN BE REPAIRED OR I NEED A NEW ENGINE. I HAVE MANY MISGIVINGS ABOUT THIS SINCE ALL THAT I HAVE READ ON THE INTERNET ABOUT ALL THE PROBLEMS WITH THIS PARTICULAR ENGINE. FORD SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR A FAULTY ENGINE, AND BUYERS SHOULD BE MADE AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY ARE BUYING A USED VEHICLE FROM A FORD DEALERSHIP WHO IS DEFINITELY AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM.

I have the EL and I love it. When driving long trips, I sometimes wish it had a little more power when trying to pass. I don't quite understand Ford's color scheme when they designed my truck. It's the Pueblo Gold with black/grey interior trim and black/peanut butter leather seats. However, after doing my homework, I couldn't find another SUV that even comes close to this one. Go Ford!

I was considering purchasing a new vehicle since my '99 Expedition had served me well. However, after test driving the new 2007 model, I knew I had to have it. The ride and comfort are exceptional compared to my old vehicle. The new engine and transmission combination is fantastic, effortlessly pulling my 5500lb boat with its 6 speeds. Ford has truly outdone themselves with this design. Additionally, the gas mileage is better than my '99, and I'm hopeful that it will improve even further with a diesel option, perhaps by 2010. With a child on the way, I'm certain that I'll get plenty of use out of it.

I've been leasing a new Expedition every 3 years for the last 12 years. I must say, the '04 model was Ford's first real effort to improve the overall performance and quality, but the '07 model is outstanding! The ride is the most significant change, and the availability of options is very impressive. Now, I have heated and AC seats, a remote up/down rear lift gate, and power rear folding seats that are worth their weight in gold. The center console shifter is also far more convenient. The car has a firmer, tighter, and more stable ride. Allegedly, the car has thicker windows and noise suppression metal, and I definitely believe it's true. The interior is much quieter while driving than the '04 model.

The Expedition is a fantastic vehicle! The 2007 redesign has made it look great on the outside and very comfortable on the inside. You get many of the features found in high-end SUVs such as the Escalade and Denali, but at a much lower cost. Despite its size, it doesn't feel like a large SUV when steering, parking, or braking. The interior cabin is quiet, with minimal wind noise at freeway speeds. The tires on the 20

I'm so glad I purchased this truck! I recently took it on a 1800 mile tour and it performed flawlessly. My previous truck was a 2WD 2006 Ford Explorer with a 4.0 engine (I think). That Explorer had an incredible amount of power when accelerating. It could match or beat many new lightweight cars. In comparison, my Expedition is a bit slower, but it's a small price to pay for everything else being so great!

In the four months since I purchased the Limited fully equipped model, I have unfortunately experienced a range of issues, from the automatic air suspension to the full transmission. While I still love the looks, comfort, and safety of the vehicle, it has spent more time at the dealership for major repairs than in my driveway. I regret buying this car as it has caused me a lot of stress and frustration.

Our 3rd Expedition has experienced some issues, despite having essentially the same engine as before. For at least 2 years, we have been dealing with an intermittent misfire that only showed up on the computer this week when the engine light finally came on. We discovered that the coil on plug on cylinder #4 was faulty, which is a common problem that our dealer's service department confirmed. Although Ford refuses to acknowledge this issue with the engine, we are confident in our decision to either sell it or risk a multi-thousand dollar repair bill in the future. While we are disappointed that we can no longer choose Expeditions, we still appreciate the vehicle more than GM or other products.
