The Dodge Dakota, known as the Ram Dakota for the final two years of production, is a mid-size pickup truck from Chrysler's Ram (formerly Dodge Truck) division. The first Dakota was introduced in late 1986 as a 1987 model. From its introduction through 2009, it was marketed under the Dodge brand, and for the final two years under the Ram brand.
The Dakota was sized above the compact Ford Ranger and Chevrolet S-10, but below the full-sized pickups such as Dodge's own Ram. It is a conventional design with body-on-frame construction and a leaf spring/live axle rear end. The Dakota was the first mid-size pickup with an optional V8 engine. For its entire production, the Dakota was built in Warren, Michigan.

- Summary: After driving on the interstate highway for a couple hours from Phoenix, Arizona I noticed that the left turn signal started malfunctioning, and the right signal flashed instead. After several hours of driving, noticed that sometimes the right signal only flashed 3 or 4 times when turning on the right indicator. I also noticed that the emergency flashers would usually blink once or twice left, then switch to right only. While stopped, I verified that the right front and rear turn signals were actually blinking as indicated on the dash. The next day however the problem was gone. I drove the car on the interstate again for several hours, without any issues.

Your dad first owned the 3.9L V6 Dakota Sport and you went on family vacations and he used it for business. Your mom also drove it around to and from work (errands too) for years. The Dodge has been through a lot of travels! It now has 205,000 miles on it and is running wonderfully! Only normal fixes had to be done. It's a great truck. Now you own the truck and enjoy it a lot!

If you're looking for a great truck, you've come to the right place! My truck has well over 300,000 miles and is as solid and reliable as most new trucks. While the interior may not have much room, it still hauls and tows like a full-size truck. Dodge really did their homework before putting their name on this one!

You cannot find a better small truck for the money. When compared to single cab tacomas, rangers, colorados, or frontiers that only come with 4 cylinders, this truck offers a V6 with good towing and full truck size for the same price. I bought a full-size truck for the price of a compact truck. Additionally, the manual transmission is incredible. In 6th gear, I can run 85 at 2600 rpm, which is unheard of with modern cars. If you want a full-size truck for half the price, this is the one to get. If you want a small truck with fuel economy, consider a Tacoma or Ranger.

Congratulations on your new 08 Dakota! It's great to hear that you're impressed with its looks, interior, and drive-ability. This truck may be smaller, but it's definitely capable. It's also great to hear that it's easy for your wife to maneuver in traffic and that the fit and finish is excellent. Plus, it's even better on gas than your old Hemi! The interior is also very quiet and the upgraded stereo is crisp and clear. I'm glad you're enjoying the Sirius radio option. It sounds like you had a bit of trouble finding room for all your gear from the Ram, but it's great that you were able to solve the issue by mounting one of the collapsible bins from the interior to the truck bed with sheet metal screws. I purchased this truck in 1998 for $8900 and paid it off in just 4 years. For the next 6 years, I drove it virtually maintenance-free, only needing to replace the fuel pump at 100k miles and the engine computer shortly after. Despite the engine light coming on, the dealership has been unable to identify any issues and the truck continues to run great. The air conditioning still works perfectly and it always starts up without any issues. While it may need a new paint job, I am hesitant to invest any more money into it and may consider using it for the Cash for Clunkers program recently signed into law. Overall, this has been the best car purchase I have ever made. Although I am unsure how to pass inspection with the check engine light on, I have a few months to figure it out.

I've had my Dakota for a year now and have put 25k miles on it. Unfortunately, the belt tensioner went out at 18k miles and left me stranded with an overheated truck. On the bright side, it's a great work truck! However, I wouldn't recommend it as a daily commuter vehicle due to its poor fuel economy. I've never gotten more than 16 mpg's on the highway and I get about 12 in the city at best.

It seems like the catalytic converter is not functioning properly, and based on these reviews, it appears to be a common issue. Additionally, the automatic shifter column may be difficult to use as it is off by about 1/4 inch, making it hard to determine if you are in drive or 2nd gear. Unfortunately, the exterior mirrors do not fold in. It seems like this truck is in need of a redesign. You may want to consider a Nissan Frontier instead.

In my experience, the Dodge Far and Away vehicle did not meet my expectations. The vehicle's depreciation rate was the highest among American vehicles, and its mileage rating was overstated by almost double. Additionally, the dealership was unable to address the poor mileage and engine issues due to manufacturer restrictions. Despite having a large engine, the vehicle did not perform as expected. The fact that Dodge still uses the same undercarriage as a 1970 car suggests a lack of investment in research and development. Based on my experience, I will not consider purchasing another Dodge or Chrysler vehicle.

I purchased a used 2010 Dakota 3.7 L Big Horn package in May 2019, and I have always been a fan of Dakota trucks. While the 6-cylinder engine is great for fuel economy, I have encountered a few issues. Firstly, I believe that Dodge should have equipped the truck with at least a 4.0 L engine for more power and towing capabilities. Secondly, the truck has been turning off inexplicably, which was initially attributed to the transmission overheating. However, I later discovered that the issue was with the loose ignition switch. Despite these issues, I still wish that Dodge (RAM) would bring back the Dakota. If they do, I suggest keeping the 2010 body, which is a true mid-sized truck, and offering larger 4.0 or bigger V-6 engines, as well as the Eco-Diesel in the 1500. Additionally, the cab could be reconfigured to make better use of the space. These are just a few of my suggestions.
