2007 Dodge Dakota problems
The Dodge Dakota, known as the Ram Dakota for the final two years of production, is a mid-size pickup truck from Chrysler's Ram (formerly Dodge Truck) division. The first Dakota was introduced in late 1986 as a 1987 model. From its introduction through 2009, it was marketed under the Dodge brand, and for the final two years under the Ram brand.
The Dakota was sized above the compact Ford Ranger and Chevrolet S-10, but below the full-sized pickups such as Dodge's own Ram. It is a conventional design with body-on-frame construction and a leaf spring/live axle rear end. The Dakota was the first mid-size pickup with an optional V8 engine. For its entire production, the Dakota was built in Warren, Michigan.
The Dakota was nominated for the North American Truck of the Year award for 2000.

Common 2007 Dodge Dakota problems
The Dodge Dakota, produced from 1987 to 2011, is known for its solid mid-size pickup truck performance. However, certain model years have been identified as problematic by their owners. This article will focus on the 2007 Dodge Dakota and discuss common problems based on complaints from owners.
Engine Problems:
The 2007 Dodge Dakota has received 142 complaints to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, with around one in three of these related to airbags. Drivers reported waiting for replacement parts for up to two years after airbags were recalled in 2016. Additionally, 24 powertrain complaints were reported, with trucks vibrating, shuddering at highway speeds, and experiencing transmission failures before reaching a decade on the road. These issues may be related to a faulty powertrain control module, which was recalled in late 2006.
Brake Issues:
Some drivers have reported the wrong turn signals engaging, with the left blinker activating the right one, and vice versa.
Body/Paint Troubles:
While the 2007 Dodge Dakota is not specifically mentioned, earlier models such as the 2000 Dodge Dakota had common complaints about body and paint issues. These included paint fading off the roof, oxidation of the clear coat on the roof, and rusting wheel wells.
For the 2007 Dodge Dakota, engine problems and brake issues are the primary concerns based on available data. While the 2007 model has fewer overall complaints compared to other model years, engine problems and brake issues are significant concerns that potential buyers should be aware of.

MY RESEARCH INDICATES THAT THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE HAS AN ERROR THAT INCORRECTLY TELLS THE TORQUE CONVERTER TO START THE LOCK UP RANGE AT TOO LOW AN RPM, RESULTING IN THE ENGINE AND TORQUE CONVERTER TO NOT BE SYNCHED CORRECTLY. THIS PROBLEM BEGAN SHORTLY AFTER I'D BOUGHT THE TRUCK AT 71,100 MILES. I'M AT 71,500 MILES NOW. THE REMEDY IS AS LITTLE AS REPROGRAMMING THE PCM FLASH TO AS MUCH AS REPLACING THE PCM, THE TORQUE CONVERTER, AND TRANSMISSION. THERE ARE TWO TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS OF WHICH I'M AWARE ON THE MATTER.

Negative 2007 Dodge Dakota car reviews
Positive 2007 Dodge Dakota car reviews

I bought this truck to downsize from an '03 1500 4x4 and I have not regretted it. The gas mileage is much better, which saves me a lot of money. Although the bed space is smaller, I rarely used all 8 ft. of my old bed anyway. The Dakota is very nimble, easy to park, and extremely quiet on the highway. I would recommend this truck to anyone who occasionally needs a truck for hauling, but still needs comfort, economy, and agility for everyday use. It may not be the best choice for the hardcore rancher with 12,000lbs. to pull, but it is a great choice for the active weekender. I am very happy with my purchase!
-
Although my 2000 Tundra was falling apart, I decided to purchase a new small truck. The interior room is perfect for transporting my kids, and we have even taken a couple of 500-mile trips, where the highway mileage and comfort were exceptional. While the truck lacks in acceleration, I find that it is not a major issue for me. Additionally, I have found it challenging to find aftermarket parts/mods for the truck. Overall, I am satisfied with my purchase, but I would have preferred to have done more research beforehand.
-
If you bought a V6, don't complain about power. You bought a V6, so it's expected to have less power than a V8. The V8 screams and the only problem I have is getting traction to break inertia.
-
Just drove 1250 miles nonstop, and I have to say, the driving comfort and performance were fantastic! This is such a great little truck. Although, I do think it could benefit from a bit more power in acceleration with the V6 engine.
-
Your truck sounds pretty good overall! It gets an average of 19-20 mpg with no load and a mix of city and highway driving. With a load, it drops to 17-18 mpg. The ride is good, but there has been some wind noise over time. Unfortunately, the ignition module went out just over warranty at 40000 miles ($400). Despite that, I really enjoy the truck overall. I was at the dealer and talked about trading it in for kicks. Interestingly, the V-8 is considered less desirable than the V-6, even though you only gain 1-2 mpg with the V-6. However, the V-8 has the power to haul and get you on the road, whereas the V-6 was a bit sluggish for me.

I've had my Dakota for a year now and have put 25k miles on it. Unfortunately, the belt tensioner went out at 18k miles and left me stranded with an overheated truck. On the bright side, it's a great work truck! However, I wouldn't recommend it as a daily commuter vehicle due to its poor fuel economy. I've never gotten more than 16 mpg's on the highway and I get about 12 in the city at best.

I love mine! However, I have noticed that the V6 in 6 speed is a bit underpowered, especially when towing a small trailer 4 x 6 with a mid-size ATV. Additionally, the rear suspension could use a beefier upgrade. Lastly, I would suggest replacing the small driver's and passenger mirrors with folding ones to eliminate any big blind spots. I have already made this upgrade and it has made a huge difference!

The Dodge Dakota is a fantastic performing truck that has all the features and size I was looking for. However, I was disappointed when Chrysler Corporation did not honor their lifetime powertrain warranty. As a result, I am hesitant to purchase or recommend another Chrysler product to anyone.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my 2006 Dodge Dakota that I purchased in February. I've put about two thousand miles on it so far and have noticed a few things. When I'm in high gear and hit a bump, the manual shift shakes quite a bit. Additionally, when I'm in low gears and under stress, like going up a hill, I've noticed a lot of valve clatter. On top of that, I've been getting terrible gas mileage. Overall, I'm a bit disappointed and wouldn't consider buying another Dodge product at this time. Just wanted to give you a heads up! Take care.

A good sturdy truck! I was really impressed when I towed a 6 yd tandem dumping trailer. I used this rig to haul topsoil for a couple of days and it did not disappoint. Many people put tonneau covers on their trucks and they become cars with poor mileage. Use your Dodge for what it was made for and you will be amazed!
