2016 Buick Lacrosse problems
The Buick LaCrosse is a four-door, front-wheel-drive sedan manufactured by Buick since model year 2005, and marketed variously across four generations for the North American and Chinese markets.
The first-generation LaCrosse replaced the Century and Regal in North America beginning for model year 2005 as a five- or six-passenger, four-door, front-wheel-drive, V6-powered sedan using GM's mid-size W platform—and marketed in Canada as the Buick Allure. Notably, the first generation was also offered with a V8 engine, as a high-performance sub-model marketed as the LaCrosse Super (2008–2009). LaCrosse production and marketing began for China with model year 2006.
The second-generation LaCrosse was introduced for 2010 as a larger premium sedan for North American and Chinese markets using a long-wheelbase (LWB) variant of the Epsilon II platform shared with the Cadillac XTS—and available solely as a five-passenger sedan with a range of four- and six-cylinder engines.
The third generation was introduced for North America and China for model year 2017 using the GM Epsilon platform shared with the Chevrolet Impala, notably offering a mild hybrid powertrain combining 20-kilowatt (27 hp) electric and 2.5-liter Ecotec gasoline engine. North American production ended with the third generation, with model year 2019; however, it continued to be offered in China, with a 2019 facelift.
The fourth-generation LaCrosse, launched in 2023, is currently manufactured and marketed solely in China. It is powered by a turbocharged 1.5-liter or 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine.

Common 2016 Buick Lacrosse problems
The 2016 Buick LaCrosse has several common problems that owners have reported. Here are the top five issues, based on complaints from owners of this car:
- Throttle Body Assembly Failure: The throttle body assembly in the 2016 Buick LaCrosse can fail, causing the check engine light to come on. This issue is often associated with code P2135, which indicates sensors in the throttle body are not aligning properly. The sensors can sometimes be replaced separately, but it's generally easier to replace the entire throttle body. Cleaning the throttle body will not fix this issue since it's an internal electrical problem with the throttle body.
- Wheel Speed Sensor Failure: The wheel speed sensor in the 2016 Buick LaCrosse can fail, causing the ABS light to come on. This issue can be caused by a break in the signal, which can be due to a flex in the ABS wire or a broken tone ring on the hub. Replacing the speed sensor or the wheel hub bearing may be necessary to fix this issue.
- Door Latch Actuator Failure: The door latch actuator in the 2016 Buick LaCrosse can fail, causing the door latch assembly to malfunction. This issue can prevent the door from opening or closing properly, and may require replacing the entire door latch assembly.
These common problems with the 2016 Buick LaCrosse can lead to inconvenience and expensive repairs. It's important for owners to be aware of these issues and address them promptly to avoid further damage to the vehicle.

STEERING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-12-23
- VIN: 1G4GB5G35GF
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: I lost power steering while driving 70 mph on a two-lane highway in Wyoming. There were no warnings before the incident, but a Service Power Steering light came on at the same time it quit working. One mechanic shop did a diagnosis on the car. I was told that the Electric Gear Power Steering Motor needs to be replaced along the whole Rack and Pinion that it's attached to has to be replaced because of the way it's designed. I found out that 2,000 of these same model and year of cars had a recall on them for this exact problem, but my car's VIN wasn't included in that recall. After doing thorough research on the internet, I have found that this is a common issue with these cars, and it's obvious that the manufacturer should have included more cars in the recall. I have just turned 77,000 miles on my car, and I have been given a $4,000 estimate to get it repaired. It is completely undrivable at this time.
STEERING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-11-01
- VIN: 1G4GB5G32GF
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: While navigating a curve, my power steering quit, nearly causing me to hit an oncoming car in the opposite lane. I stop and search the car for issues but found none. The care returned to normal steering and two days later, I had a vehicle pull out in front of me, while quickly avoiding the other car, my power steering quit working again. Luckily, I was able to overcome the steering but it certainly shocked me. This is a most definite safety concern that must be looked at closer before someone seriously gets hurt.
EQUIPMENT PROBLEM

SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-10-15
- VIN: 1G4GE5G33GF
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: Adaptive cruise control dropped out, taking along with it the ABS (warning light), Stabilitrak (handling system) (warning light), Collision prep (message). Dealer states the ABS computer module failed, now in process of finding a replacement. Meanwhile, the ABS, cruise control, and other systems mentioned here are inoperative. It may well be that this may be considered to be a component failure, not an inherent safety issue but under some driving conditions it is clearly a safety consideration.
STEERING PROBLEM

The manual states it is a electrical power issue. I've taken this car in numerous of times for various services, specially the "jerking" of the car. I've discovered there was a recall for the Power steering today was announced a few years ago but never gotten a letter to have mine checked. I just recently picked my car up from servicing and there is no notation of needing power steering fluid. I feel like this is a dangerous issue especially if had locked up on the highway!

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-10-24
- Fire: 1
- VIN: 1G4GB5G33GF
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: This concerns our 2016 Buick LaCrosse. We leased the car late in 2016 for 3-1/2 years, then purchased it including an extended warranty. Two problems occurred. First the fuel supply line to the engine began leaking, leaving a gasoline odor inside the car. We took the car to our dealership and had it repaired. We told the dealership we purchased an extended warranty with the car and were told this repair was not covered! We had to pay ±$471 out of pocket which we don't agree with. The second issue is the Return fuel supply line which let loose when starting the car, (weeks later) spraying gas all over the garage floor. I opened the hood to check the problem and tried starting the engine again. There was a small fire which I extinguished immediately. We had to have the car towed to the dealership to get it repaired a second time for fuel line issues. This time it cost us ±$978 out of pocket to get it fixed. They said again extended warranty did NOT cover this problem. I am told by a GM executive that GM has a separate warranty (10yr) for EPA fuel & emissions compliance that should have covered this situation, yet the dealer charged us for the repairs. I have also heard that NHTSA has a similar regulation which I would like to know more about.

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-09-05

The contact stated that the following day while the vehicle was parked and turned on, the power steering warning light illuminated and the steering wheel seized. The contact stated she called a tow truck to tow the vehicle to the local dealer and while she waited she was able to steer the steering wheel; however, she did not feel safe driving the vehicle and it was then towed to a local dealer. TIRES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-07-06
- VIN: 1G4G45G36GF
- Components: TIRES
- Summary: Vogue Custom Built Radial VIII Tire size: 235/50/18 While driving on the Highway, I experienced a Tire blowout on my front passenger side of the vehicle that also led to vehicle damage. I have pictures of the tire post blowout with a gaping hole in the middle of the tire and the tread completely fallen off. This Incident put my life and others at risk as I was forced to pull my vehicle to the side border of the highway to avoid incoming traffic. This Incident occurred 7 months after I had my tires serviced at my local tire shop where they verified that 2 of the 4 tires were experiencing splitting on the sidewall and tread. I got those 2 tires replaced with the same vogue tires and they were moved to the back of the vehicle. The other 2 tires were ok to drive on. This background information highlights what I believe is a manufacturer's defect with the tendency that these Vogue tires have to split and deteriorate. I believe that the front passenger tire that blew out on the highway, likely experienced the same effects that required me to replace 2 of the tires just 7 months ago. These tires are dangerous for anyone to drive on due to this manufacturer's defect. They have less than 60,000 miles of mileage on them, they were properly inflated, and I did not receive any vehicle warning signs or see any indicators on the exterior of the tire. I am also a person that services their vehicle routinely. My hope is to help others avoid the risks that come with these tires which could have cost myself and others their lives.

2016 Buick Lacrosse recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 2 recalls for different components of the 2016 Buick Lacrosse.
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL
- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2014-2016 Buick Lacrosse and Chevrolet Spark EV, Caprice PPV and SS vehicles, 2014-2017 Buick Encore and Chevrolet Corvette, Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles, 2015-2016 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Tahoe, Trax, Suburban and Silverado 2500 and 3500 and GMC Yukon and Yukon XL vehicles, and 2015-2017 GMC Sierra HD 2500 and 3500 vehicles. While being previously remedied for recall 16V-651, the affected vehicles may not have received the complete software update necessary to remedy the recall condition. Without the update, certain driving conditions may cause the air bag sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) software to activate a diagnostic test. During this test, deployment of the frontal air bags and the seat belt pretensioners would not occur in the event of a crash.
- Consequence: A failure of the front air bags or seat belt pretensioners to deploy in the event of a crash necessitating deployment increases the risk of injury to the driver and front passenger.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will reflash the SDM software. Vehicles that have had a previous air bag deployment will have the SDM replaced. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on August 4, 2017. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300, Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 17287.

The car is definitely my favorite vehicle. The ride is so soft and smooth, the interior is plush, and the pick up is great. Braking is easy and the steering is wonderful, making it easy to glide into corners with ease of handling. It's a great car and worth every penny!
-
Hi there! Just wanted to let you know that unfortunately, there isn't enough room in the trunk for your golf clubs without laying down the rear seats. On the bright side, you'll be happy to hear that this car gets great gas mileage on the highway!
-
I highly recommend this car! Its rakishly-elegant appearance gives an impressive presence, making it stand out in a crowd. The interior is by far the most comfortable of any car I've owned. I even traveled in it for 22 hours across America in the span of two days and still found it comfortable! With the 304 HP V6, the car feels quite powerful and can tear up the road if you floor it from a stop. Even on single-lane highways, I can pass up to eight cars in several seconds starting from 60 MPH. While there are some cons, such as occasional issues with the cruise control and a small trunk, these are small quibbles compared to the car's overall beauty, power, comfort, and reliability.
-
You might need some time to adjust to the blind spots caused by the front pillar.
-
You'll love it, give it a drive!

This Buick is quite noisy to ride in, making it difficult to have a decent conversation with the person riding with me. I am surprised that General Motors advertises this car as having a quiet ride. The road noise is quite noticeable and the seats are not very comfortable. As someone who has owned other Buicks, I have to say that the riding quality and noise limits within the interior of this car are disappointing. Overall, I wouldn't buy another one. It's worth noting that GM is eliminating the Buick Lacrosse in 2020, which is not surprising given its overrated reputation.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with the Lacrosse. I rented one for a week to take on a 1,000 mile trip, as I was considering it as a potential retirement gift to myself in a year or two. Unfortunately, I found that the driving position was quite cramped, which was a bit of a letdown. As someone who is 6 foot and 190 lbs, I found that the console flares as it approaches the dash, reducing valuable seating real estate. Additionally, my right leg was constantly fighting the console trying to get my foot squarely on the accelerator pedal. However, the seat did go back far enough, which was a big plus. I did find that the road noise was a bit intrusive, which was disappointing for a car of this supposed caliber. On the bright side, the handling was very excellent and the ride was okay. The climate control worked very well and the controls were easy to understand. The powertrain (V6) was excellent, as was the gas mileage. I averaged just over 30 mpg (calculated) for highway (mostly), suburban and in-town driving. The trunk was nice and big and the fit and finish were excellent. Overall, while there were some areas that could be improved, I did enjoy my time with the Lacrosse. By contrast, I'm currently leasing a 2015 Verano which I find to be superior in several areas. Thanks for listening! It's great to hear that the entertainment system in this car is easier to use with buttons for things like the radio presets. Additionally, the driver's position is not as cramped, despite the car being slightly smaller overall. The brakes also have a better pedal feel. Although it may not have the same ride comfort as the Lacrosse, which is more expensive, it's still a great option to consider. Perhaps the redesign will address some of these issues and make the Lacrosse a contender once again.

I had a 2015 Buick Lacrosse E-Assist for 5 years and drove it for 77,000Km. Unfortunately, I experienced some problems during this time. After 6 months, the vents on/off controls caused the climate control temperature setting to change, and the dealer was unable to find the root of the problem. After 1 year, the passenger sun visor mirror cover broke down. Additionally, after 5 years and 77,000Km, the rear driver side ABS malfunctioned and destroyed the brake pads. The dealer claimed that this was normal wear and tear. The car was also quite noisy for the price paid and consumed a lot of gas in town. Unfortunately, the E-assist feature never worked properly. Based on my experience, I will not be purchasing a Buick again.

Our LaCrosse is incredibly comfortable, and passengers often compliment how nice it is inside. However, the electronics can be frustrating. Despite that, it's a fun and surprisingly peppy car to drive, especially given its size. It handles corners very well and is extremely sure-footed. The mechanical engineering is sound, but the electronics could use some improvement. We recently had to replace the battery again, which is the third time in less than two years of ownership. The voltage gauge sometimes bounces around, but the dealer assures us that there isn't a problem with the charging system. The bluetooth could be better implemented, but we still find it useful. Occasionally, the main LCD panel displays a warning about distracted driving that needs to be manually cleared, which can be distracting. The chrome on the driver and front passenger door handles is flaking off, which is a bit disappointing. Overall, while we won't be buying another Buick, we still appreciate the comfort and great driving experience of the LaCrosse. That being said, we've been spoiled by Hyundai's exceptional warranty and customer service.

When you test drive this car, pay special attention to the front headrest. Although we didn't notice it during the test drive, some owners have complained about it being too far forward on forums. However, I must say that I like the car very much, especially the comfortable and quiet ride. The Delphi safety features on the high-end trim package are a great addition. The only downsides are that the side windows are too small and the technology can be a bit complicated. I had to show the dealer how to reset the oil change counter. Also, the touch screen displays can be a distraction while driving. Lastly, the back-up camera display is at an angle, so the sun can block it out at times. Overall, it's a great car that I would recommend.
