The Land Rover Range Rover Evoque, also known as the Range Rover Evoque, is a subcompact luxury crossover SUV developed and produced by Jaguar Land Rover under their Land Rover marque. The original Evoque was a development of the Land Rover LRX concept vehicle, which was unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in January 2008. The first generation Evoque was produced from July 2011 until 2018 in three and five-door versions, with both two-wheel and four-wheel drive. The second generation of the car went into production in 2018.

First generation (L538; 2011)

Development

The size of the LRX concept vehicle complemented a wide array of efficiency-improving technologies in the form of Land Rover's e_Terrain technologies. These included biofuel compatibility, lightweight construction materials, and technologies such as the removable carbon composite roof panels, regenerative brakes, a stop-start system, along with the ERAD (electric rear axle drive) parallel hybrid powertrain system.

ERAD system

The ERAD system could propel the LRX to speeds up to 20 mph (32 km/h) before the engine was started by an integrated starter generator as part of the stop-start system. ERAD was designed to reduce CO2 emissions by an average of 20% under the NEDC test cycle and was expected to offer another 10% reduction in extra-urban driving situations while also optimizing the off-road ability of the vehicle. Land Rover aimed to achieve 120 g/km CO2 emissions and fuel economy of 60 mpg‑imp (4.7 L/100 km; 50 mpg‑US) on the European combined cycle with an efficient 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine based on PSA DW12. The engine would become the only four-cylinder vehicle in the Range Rover lineup.

Common 2019 Land rover Range rover evoque problems

The common problems with the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque 2019, based on complaints from owners, include:

  • Infotainment System: Concerns have been raised about the functionality of the infotainment system. Owners should ensure that the system works properly and has been updated to the latest software version. The Pivi system allows for over-the-air updates, eliminating the need for dealership visits for software updates.
  • Recalls: Several recalls have been issued for the 2019 and 2020 models of the Range Rover Evoque. These recalls include issues with the emergency call system, rubberized fuel return hose assembly, and the 48V electrical system. Owners should be aware of these recalls and ensure that their vehicles have received the necessary updates to address these issues.
  • Reliability Ranking: In a recent What Car? Reliability survey, the Range Rover Evoque ranked 32nd out of 34 cars in the family SUV class. Land Rover as a brand also performed poorly, ranking 28th out of 32 manufacturers featured. This indicates a general trend of reliability concerns with the Evoque and Land Rover vehicles in general.

These problems highlight some key areas of concern for owners of the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque 2019 model, emphasizing the importance of thorough inspections, software updates, and staying informed about any recalls to ensure the optimal performance and safety of the vehicle.

2019 Land rover Range rover evoque engine

What is the most common problem with Range Rover Evoque?

Most problems centre on the non-engine electrics, especially around the air-con and sat-nav units, with gearbox woes a close second, followed by engine and suspension issues. Automatic gearbox problems on the Evoque are fairly common.

Are Range Rover Evoques expensive to fix?

The average annual repair cost for a Land Rover is $1,174, which means it has average ownership costs. The other factors that contribute to Land Rover reliability include an average of 0.7 visits to a repair shop per year and a 16% probability of a repair being severe.

Is it a good idea to buy a Range Rover Evoque?

Out on the road, whichever engine you go for, the Evoque is generally a comfortable companion, but it does have a tendency to fidget and jiggle over rough surfaces at lower speeds. Considering its off-road readiness, this is a posh SUV that's also surprisingly fun and capable in corners.

What is the suspension problem on the Range Rover Evoque?

One of the most common sources of Range Rover suspension problems is the car's air struts. Made in part with a flexible rubber, they're prone to cracking, rotting, or being punctured. And most of them wear out at about the same rate, so if one needs replacing, you can bet the other three will soon.

  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: The the top of the windshield leaks. The windshield has actually pulled away from the body of the car and needs to be completely resealed. This is a well known and recall problem for 2015 to 2018 Land Rover Evokes. My Evoke is a 2019 thus dose not fall under the recall, yet its the same issue. There are many other people with this complaint which can be seen with a quick Google search on this issue. My dealership has straight out told me that my year is not in the recall, although same problem, its not a recall item because my year is not included in the recall. I am asking that you expand the current recall for leaking windshields form 2015 to 2022 (i say 2022 because on line, there seems to be an on going issue until 2022. Not to mention, this issue drastically diminishes the safety integrity of the vehicle roll over safety / security / strength. Thanks you.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2019-07-26
  • VIN: SALVP2RX9KH
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: While driving on the interstate I released the cruise and slowed down when coming up on an 18 wheeler. When it was clear I began to change lanes to the left and tried to accelerate but the engine would not respond. About 5 or 6 seconds later it finally responded. This has happened about a dozen times at random. It has been in the dealers shop 6 times for this issue. The usually update the software and call it good but it keeps on happening. I had it in the shop this past January 2021 and a tech from Range Rover worked on it for about 1 1/2 weeks upgrading the software and said it was fixed. It happened 2 times since then so back to the shop I went. They returned the car on the 4th day stating they could not make the car shut down and there were no codes. I don’t know about you but it’s very stressful when you are driving in heavy traffic on Interstate 4 near Orlando and your car shuts done for a few seconds. I read on the internet where other people are having similar issues. I think something needs to be done before there is a tragic accident because Range Rover acts like they don’t know what everyone is talking about.

Negative 2019 Land rover Range rover evoque car reviews

  1. Josh Marquardt 2025-08-03

I purchased this 2016 Evoque back in 2016, which happened to be one of their well-taken care of courtesy vehicles. Unfortunately, I experienced some issues with it since the date of purchase, and it was in the shop more than any vehicle I've ever owned. The sensor went out, which is the brains of the vehicle, and even after they replaced it, it wasn't right. I also experienced some turbo lag, and the power lift gate would never close all the way with just one bag of groceries in the back hatch. However, I have since moved on to a 2019 Chevy LT Tahoe, and I absolutely love it. There's nothing like a Chevy!

  2. Clinton Wiza 2025-07-27

Let me start by saying how much I love this car! It's super stylish and comfortable, and the design is just wonderful. The vehicle is full of thoughtful additions, and as a daily driver, it really shines. The electronics are workable, but could be improved. Off-road, this car is amazing! It's extremely capable, even without a low transfer case. The 4wd system is easy to use, and we've driven it on all sorts of terrain, from mud-ruts to snow in Colorado! However, when it comes to clearance, especially when loaded up with camping equipment, it does suffer a bit. The cons? Well, the cost of ownership is a bit of a letdown, and I suspect this is true for the entire Land Rover/Range Rover range. Unless you're a millionaire with tons of time or someone to look after your cars, you might get frustrated. The car always seems to need to go into the shop for something, and getting it serviced is a nightmare. On our last road trip, we had to wait nearly 2 months for a service appointment, and each service always took way too long. However, despite these drawbacks, I still love this car and would recommend it to anyone looking for a stylish and comfortable daily driver with off-road capabilities. Why not book it in for work when you can fulfill the request in a timely manner? Additionally, the cost can be quite high. If you can average out of service costs for less than $1,000, you are lucky! However, my experience is not unique. I was talking to another owner in particular who really started to make me think about changing. He said, 'When you own a Land Rover/Range Rover, you need to buy two - one for the repair shop while you drive the other and vice versa.'

  3. Mohammad Erdman 2025-05-21

The transmission can be a bit rough around town, but it performs well on the highway. Unfortunately, the ZF 9HP transmission used in this model is known to have some issues that have yet to be resolved. Additionally, there are some minor bugs such as road and wind noise from the mirrors, limited storage space, and inconvenient placement of USB ports. The seats could also be more supportive and the heated windshield option can be distracting. It's disappointing that this model doesn't come with Apple CarPlay support or wireless charging, and the headlights could be stronger. It's also worth noting that some features like universal garage remote and memory seats are not included as standard. However, the design is still impressive, even if it's becoming a bit stale. Overall, while there are some drawbacks, this Land Rover model still has a lot to offer.

  4. Elmo Hill 2025-04-19

The car has been in the dealer for a considerable amount of time, which is quite frustrating. However, I am confident in my knowledge of the car and its maintenance, and I was able to successfully navigate the situation with the help of a lawyer. The engine was replaced under full warranty, and Land Rover corporate covered the cost of the repairs. I am satisfied with the outcome and appreciate the support of my legal team.

  5. Austin Pacocha 2025-01-18

I noticed that the car experiences some wheel hop and body roll when going over small pot holes and bumps, which can be a bit uncomfortable. The suspension feels quite stiff, almost like a Mini Cooper. I'm considering selling the car soon, but I'm open to suggestions on how to improve the ride quality.

Positive 2019 Land rover Range rover evoque car reviews

  1. Marcos Keebler 2025-07-22

I read another review that really criticizes this RR. However, I must say that I absolutely love my SUV despite a few quirks that need to be ironed out. It feels incredibly solid and stable when you drive it, which makes me feel very safe. Living in a cold climate, heated seats are a must-have, but having a heated steering wheel and heated windshield is just amazing! I can't live without them. Although the app for the remote start is not great, it's not a deal-breaker. If they could work on that or offer an alternate remote start, it would be fantastic. It's true that my tires lose air, but that's very common in cold climates with this type of wheel. I just pop into the dealer, and they fix it. If the brakes get a little salt in them, they can be quite squeaky and howly, which is annoying, but it's common for colder climates. In the last few sentences, I've told you all my complaints. That's it. (Except that it does not have a garage door opener in the mirror and also does not pop up text messages on the monitor - 3rd world problems.) This SUV is the perfect height off the ground, not too low, not too high. Friends with arthritis cannot say enough about the ease of access. Winter driving? Does anyone compare? It was awesome, easy, and safe. I would not have a problem letting my kids drive the RR in a snowstorm! The 11-speaker Meridian sound system is amazing, and the back row seats are full-size! Not a little kiddy bench. Full-size means a little bit less legroom, but just pull the front seat up. My two boys, both over 6 feet tall, sit tandem all the time without complaints. Plus, the back seats are heated! Cargo is limited, but still more space than a car. You feel like you are driving a car and not a school bus. I really appreciate that because 90% of the time it is just me in the car. I can't say enough about my RR. It was my first RR, and I have been pleasantly surprised. I guess I thought it was a glorified name, but I was wrong!

  2. Antwan Hills 2025-06-16

I test drove both the Range Rover and the Porsche Macan. While the Porsche's engine was strong and had better pick up, I couldn't justify paying 10K extra for it. In comparison, the Range Rover feels like a great value for the price. I really enjoy driving my red Evoque and it always gets a lot of compliments. Although I wish the pick up was a little faster, I am willing to sacrifice power for better emissions, especially given the recent news about VW. The interior is very nice and feels classy. I had to read the owner's manual almost front to back to understand all the features, but it was worth it. The SUV looks comparably small compared to other SUVs and the lack of trunk space is noticeable (I had an Audi Q5 before), but overall I am very satisfied with this purchase. I may have paid a bit too much for it, but oh well!

  3. Dejuan Willms 2025-06-08

The car looks great and is well-styled. It's good on gas, peppy, and does what I need it to, but it has had a couple of issues. The windshield started leaking, but it was fixed/replaced under warranty. The car is hard on brakes, and the front hood doesn't want to close in cold weather (and the car won't start if the hood is ajar), which turned out to be the latch sending unit. It can be tough to find/buy aftermarket parts (wheels, tires, wipers, etc.), and OEM upgrades are pricey. For example, nice black wheels cost $3400. Even with these minor issues, I decided (with only 70K) to buy the car out and keep it. It's the first car/truck out of 9 leases that I've ever done that with. In fact, I was looking forward to the lease end so I could do some upgrades, including tires, rims, paint, larger turbo, etc. In my opinion, RR is still a good vehicle. Has the quality come down since being bought out by Tata? Yes! I think they should get back to basics and lay off the constant style upgrades and start looking at the reliability and quality control factors. RR used to be a great reliable vehicle, and hopefully, it will get better before it gets worse.

  4. Vicente Daugherty 2025-04-29

I bought a brand new Evoque in 2016 and have driven it for 4 years, covering 60k miles! During this time, I experienced a few issues with my car. Firstly, my front windshield would leak whenever I went to the car wash. However, the dealership was very helpful and replaced the windshield for free! Secondly, my backup camera stopped working, but the dealership was able to fix it by replacing the camera for a reasonable price of $200. Lastly, I had to change the pads and rotors after 54k miles, which cost me $3500. Overall, my experience driving my red and black Evoque has been great! 🙂

  5. Mose Berge 2025-02-19

My wife and I have put over 26,000 miles on our 2018 Evoque due to our daily commutes. Overall, we find it to be a very comfortable and solid ride with low wind noise and decent power. We opted for the premium with the cold climate package to get the amenities we wanted in a luxury car. The only issue we have encountered is a clunky shift from 1st to 2nd gear, which occurs about 25% of the time and can be off-putting. On the bright side, the servicing on 2018 models has been reduced to once a year or every 16,000 miles. Our first service cost us under $250, and the next one will be $400, which was a pleasant surprise, even cheaper than our Kia. Additionally, after being rear-ended and needing almost $20,000 worth of work done, my wife only suffered a sore neck and the dealership was very helpful throughout the entire process. Overall, we are extremely pleased with our purchase and would highly recommend it to our friends.
