2014 Chevrolet Traverse problems
The Chevrolet Traverse is a full-size crossover SUV with three-row seating built by General Motors. It is built on the same platform as the GMC Acadia and Buick Enclave, known as the Lambda platform for the first generation, and the C1XX for the second generation. It also shares the C1XX platform with the Cadillac XT6. It is the successor to the TrailBlazer body-on-frame SUV and the Uplander minivan.
The second-generation model debuted in showrooms in the summer of 2017. Starting with the 2019 model year, the Traverse was slotted above the new mid-size Chevrolet Blazer as part of Chevrolet's plans to expand its SUV lineup.
The Traverse name was originally used for a concept car at the 2003 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, but that concept gave way when the Equinox launched for the 2005 model year.

Common 2014 Chevrolet Traverse problems
The 2014 Chevrolet Traverse has been reported to have several common problems that have caused issues for its owners. These problems include a loss of power while driving, airbag sensor issues, and transmission jerking while shifting between gears.
One of the most widespread problems is a loss of power while driving, which is caused by a failing fuse box that can cause the entire SUV to lose all electrical power, eventually stalling while driving. This issue typically occurs around 65,000 miles and can cost around $700 to replace, depending on local labor rates.
Another common problem is airbag sensor issues, which are reported by owners around 78,000 miles. The "service airbag" light will turn on when one of the sensors is failing. Some of the sensors are covered by a service policy which extends the warranty on the sensors. If the failing sensor isn’t covered, it can cost around $300 to replace.
Transmission jerking while shifting between gears is also a common problem reported by owners around 50,000 miles. Owners report both hesitation and stuttering as it goes from one gear to the next. The transmission control module is the source of the problem, costing around $1,200 to replace.
These problems are more severe than other large SUVs from 2014, and repair costs are higher than average as well. However, the 2014 Chevrolet Traverse has a well-maintained lifespan of around 200,000 miles, which is about 150,000 miles less than the top-rated Toyota Sequoia. Regular annual maintenance costs are slightly more expensive than average, according to Repair Pal, at $549 per year.
When buying a used 2014 Chevy Traverse, potential buyers should be prepared to replace the A/C compressor for $900, oil pressure sensor costing $350, and the control arms which cost around $550. Despite these issues, many owners have reported that the Traverse is a reliable vehicle with few mechanical issues. However, it is essential to be aware of these common problems and factor them into the decision-making process when considering purchasing a used 2014 Chevy Traverse.
Are 2014 Chevrolet Traverse good cars?
Overall, the 2014 Chevrolet Traverse delivers a smooth, confident and quiet highway ride. The V6 engine provides adequate performance, but lacks low-end punch during authoritative passing maneuvers at any speed.
What is the most common problem with a Chevy Traverse?
On the nhtsa's. Website one complaint says while at a traffic light the engine Auto Stop engaged. As usual but upon releasing the brake the vehicle restarted. And wouldn't run properly.
How many miles is a 2014 Chevy Traverse good for?
200,000 miles
The expected lifespan of a Chevrolet Traverse is 200,000 miles. However, many Traverse owners have kept their vehicles for more than that, with some reaching 250,000 miles with only minor issues. Older models are more inclined to rust, which can cause damage to the undercarriage and other components.

AIR BAGS,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-05-01
- VIN: 1GNKRHKD4EJ
- Components: AIR BAGS,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: I have been receiving warning messages on my dashboard regarding Service The Stabilitrak, followed by Traction Control Off message and then vehicle shaking, losing steering power and engine shutting down for over a year. The issue occurs randomly making it difficult to repair. I have had it serviced multiple times by different mechanics and no one has been able to find a solution due to the random nature of the issue. This poses a risk to the vehicle occupants safety because when unexpectedly and suddenly losing engine power, steering and traction control all at the same time, it is very difficult to safely merge to the shoulder of a roadway. I have been left stranded in many locations including out of town. Due to my research this is a common issue with this vehicle that can be caused by multiple issues. I also have a recall on my air bag and warnings have appeared on my dashboard that has no remedy yet. The vehicle is not safe to drive and I depend on this SUV to transport my family of 7. I am also still financing, making it difficult to keep up with payments while trying to diagnose/ repair.

Hello! I hope you're doing well. I was wondering if you could help me with something. I have a 2013 Traverse LT1 FWD and I've noticed that when I'm driving at slow speeds, around 20-30mph or more, and I let off the gas and then hit it again, there's a noticeable clunk. The dealer told me that it's just a characteristic of the truck and that he's experienced the same thing with his 2016 model. However, I find it hard to believe that this is normal. Do you have any advice or suggestions? Thank you so much!

I'm glad to hear that you upgraded from a 2011 SRX to this one! It seems like you're really enjoying the improved ride and performance, not to mention the cost difference. Thanks for sharing your experience with us!

Our car was involved in a collision on the passenger side. Despite the running boards on our car, the other vehicle hooked onto them, resulting in the front end of the other car being yanked off. We were able to drive home safely, and although the impact seemed minimal, we are taking the necessary steps to ensure that our car is thoroughly inspected for any damage.
-
It's great to see that the car has only 37,000 miles for a 2013 model!

Hi there! Thank you for sharing your experience with your 2013 Traverse LT. It sounds like you really enjoy everything about it, but have had some trouble finding a good place to hang clothes during your travels. I can definitely understand how frustrating that can be! It seems like the clothes hooks being behind the 2nd row seat is not very convenient for your needs. Have you considered using a portable clothes hanger that can be hung from the back of the front seats? That might be a good solution for your travels. It's great to hear that you are considering a Highlander for your next car, especially since you have had such good luck with them in the past. Thank you again for sharing your thoughts with us!

Firstly, I must say that this car is not the most exciting one out there. However, I find it quite challenging to drive, especially when one of the tires is low. The side-to-side motion can make it a little difficult to keep straight at freeway speeds. That being said, if you can make it to freeway speeds, the engine may struggle a bit to keep up with the car in front of you. Despite these challenges, I still have this vehicle, although I must admit that I don't particularly enjoy driving it.

We recently purchased a Traverse and while it looks great on the outside, we have encountered a few issues that we would like to address. As a tall person, I find the instrumentation hard to see in corners and the controls are touch-only with no tactile feedback. Additionally, the fuel economy is not as good as we had hoped. We also had some trouble with the rear HVAC, but it turned out to be our own elbows accidentally turning it on. The headrest is a bit uncomfortable and the seats have an awkward motion. The third row seating is not very practical for adults, but it works well for younger children. The transmission can be a bit notchy at times, but the dealer assures us that it is normal. The handling can also be a bit unstable, especially at highway speeds, but again, the dealer says this is normal. Overall, we have had some minor issues with the Traverse, but we are confident that they can be resolved. Thank you for your understanding.

When my family and I were searching for a 7 seater to replace our Chevy Avalanche, we unfortunately made a mistake by leaving the decision to my husband and son. They checked out the Chevy Traverse 2013, thinking it would be similar to our previous Saturn Outlook which we loved. However, the Traverse did not live up to our expectations and we were disappointed with our purchase. We found that it was not fuel efficient and had some mechanical issues such as the transmission gear taking longer than usual to change, causing us to use more gasoline. Additionally, we had to change the windshield twice in the 5 years we owned it. Despite these issues, we did enjoy our previous Chevy Avalanche. However, this experience has made us hesitant to purchase another Chevy in the future. We paid a high price for the Traverse and were not satisfied with the quality of the car. We hope that others can learn from our experience and consider other options such as Japanese or German cars which are known for their reliability.

If you have more than three kids in car seats, it can be difficult to pull down the second row to access the third row. Additionally, the trunk space is small and my stroller cannot fit.

Having a family of eight can make finding a vehicle that fits everyone and everything a real challenge, especially without breaking the bank. The Traverse seemed like a good option, but during the first trip, it became clear that a car top carrier was necessary due to the small trunk. Additionally, the blind spot is quite bad, so it's important to have blind spot mirrors installed. The seats are quite firm and the upholstery isn't very soft, and the headrests are a bit odd. If you're looking for a more comfortable ride, it might be worth considering the higher-end Traverses. Overall, it's important to find a vehicle that meets your family's needs and budget.
