Chevrolet Traverse problems

The Chevrolet Traverse is a full-size crossover SUV with three-row seating built by General Motors. It is built on the same platform as the GMC Acadia and Buick Enclave, known as the Lambda platform for the first generation, and the C1XX for the second generation. It also shares the C1XX platform with the Cadillac XT6. It is the successor to the TrailBlazer body-on-frame SUV and the Uplander minivan.
The second-generation model debuted in showrooms in the summer of 2017. Starting with the 2019 model year, the Traverse was slotted above the new mid-size Chevrolet Blazer as part of Chevrolet's plans to expand its SUV lineup.
The Traverse name was originally used for a concept car at the 2003 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, but that concept gave way when the Equinox launched for the 2005 model year.

This issue has been reported to occur around 80,000 miles on the odometer, with an average repair cost of $1,000.
Airbag problems have been reported for the 2014-2017 Chevrolet Traverse models. The inflator in some airbags has been known to rupture, which can cause injury to the driver and/or passengers. This issue led to a recall for the defective airbags.
In summary, the Chevrolet Traverse has faced several issues over the years, including transmission failure, engine problems, steering issues, and airbag problems. While the Traverse is a popular and capable midsize SUV, potential buyers should be aware of these issues and consider them when making their purchasing decision.

Vehicle year: 2018
To start off, I had to place a special order for the 2018 LT Leather trim level, which includes the navigation and a 2nd row bench seat that I was looking for. I specifically did not want the 2nd row captains chairs and sunroof, which are often included in the base level trim packages or the very highest price Premier ones that dealers are buying. Unfortunately, this can add another $1000 to the cost of the vehicle. However, the handling is excellent and it rides like a car, making it smoother than the Chevy Tahoe it replaced. In fact, the 2018 Traverse has more rear cargo space than the 2018 Tahoe or 2018 Suburban with their 3rd row seat and odd interior design. It's interesting to note that SUVs have become more like vans than utility vehicles, and so the Subaru with two rows has more cargo space than a full-size SUV like the Suburban. The visibility is excellent all the way around, and the driver is not dependent on the side mirrors or video as with other SUVs. The rear camera display is exceptional and not only shows lines to indicate the path of the vehicle, but it also curves the lines when backing up and turning, such as when backing out of a parking space. The gas mileage on regular gas (not ethanol, which kills fuel economy) is averaging 21 MPG with mixed driving. The acceleration is great when getting onto a freeway or when passing, and the shifting is so smooth as to not be detectable. Although the feedback from the steering wheel is not as good as that of standard power steering, with the electronic assist, it is much better than that of other SUVs I test drove, including the Honda Pilot and Toyota Highlander. It did take 7 weeks to order and receive the LT Leather, but it was well worth the wait.

If you're searching for a comfortable ride, this is the one. I absolutely adore Chevy's internal ergonomics - they look so clean and well-placed. However, it's worth noting that it's a rather large crossover and may struggle to fit in smaller garages. 😁

I'm so glad to hear that you're enjoying your 2015 Traverse LT lease! It sounds like it has a great ride, steering, and drivetrain. The automatic transmission seems to be working well for you, which is great to hear. I'm also happy to hear that you were able to get all the equipment you wanted, including heated cloth seats. The interior sounds like it's very well made and the color scheme is lovely. It's fantastic that the car is so roomy, even in the third row, and that the second row captains chairs make it easy to get to the third row without having to remove child seats. Overall, it sounds like a wonderful family car!

Vehicle year: 2012
We started our search for an eight-seat SUV with the Tahoe, but unfortunately, we found that there was a lack of cargo room behind the third row seats, and the removal of the 3rd row seats was clunky instead of folding down into the car floorboard. As a result, we had to rule it out. However, we were pleasantly surprised by the Traverse, which offered a surprising amount of room and a more affordable price. We also looked at the Buick Enclave, which impressed us, but unfortunately, we couldn't find one equipped like we wanted in our region, and the price was more than the Traverse for a comparable cloth model. We also test drove the Honda Pilot, but we were very disappointed with the road and wind noise, which felt plastic/boxy. We liked the Nissan Armada, but it was too pricey. In the end, we elected to go for the Traverse 1LT with the All Star Package and AWD.

I haven't owned this car for very long, but I've already had a great experience with it. I also own a 2011 Chevy Silverado Crew Cab 1500 LTZ and I switch between the two. My Traverse model is fully loaded, which definitely adds to the enjoyment. I'm not trying to brag, but I think that's why I might enjoy it more than someone with a base stock model. It even came with 20 inch wheels, so it might ride differently than one with smaller tires.

I purchase vehicles for the long term. Currently, I am driving my second Chevy 2500 series truck with over 200k miles. I have had nothing but positive experiences with these trucks. Therefore, I had no hesitation in purchasing our 2012 Traverse as a certified pre-owned vehicle from a dealer in 2013 with under 20k miles. Unfortunately, this vehicle did not live up to our expectations. Before reaching 100k miles, we lost AWD and had to replace the entire rear end. We opted for a salvage rear end with 7000 miles on it ($1800) instead of the dealer's (Chevrolet of Wasilla) ($3600) rear end. The work was done by Chevrolet of Wasilla with the salvaged rear. However, before a year had passed, my wife came home from a dealer oil change with a $3500 estimate to replace the entire power steering system. I have never had to replace an entire steering system on any vehicle, only the pump. I later learned that this is a common defect in GM vehicles dating back to 2009. GM has a special warranty for this issue, but unfortunately, our vehicle is not covered even though the system is still faulty. Only 10 months and 13,000 miles after our rear end replacement, the new one started leaking fluid. Unfortunately, it was not covered because it was 1000 miles over the warranty. Facing $7000 in repairs, I refused to put any more money into such a problematic vehicle. I have since learned that Traverses have a bad reputation as money pits. I am really hoping that the dealer will step up and help us out of the vehicle and into a Tahoe. I am also hoping that Tahoe's are still reliable. It is a shame that GM produced such a problematic vehicle and did not stand behind it. As tax-paying citizens, we deserve better from a company that needed a bailout to keep going. It is unacceptable to produce a vehicle that cannot make 200k miles with regular maintenance and minor repairs. When a bad steering system is designed, it should be corrected. This is an embarrassment to America. Nice job, GM.

I purchased my Traverse brand new in 2013 and it will be fully paid off next month. Unfortunately, I have experienced some issues with the A/C system, including a broken belt and compressor, which caused the vehicle to lock up and require towing. Additionally, three of the motor mounts came loose and two were completely gone. The transmission has also had to be replaced twice. Despite spending $2500 to have it towed to the dealership for locking up, they were unable to find any issues. Currently, it is parked in my driveway and while it is still drivable, I only use it for short trips to the store less than a mile away. I would advise against purchasing a Traverse.

This car has some serious issues that you should be aware of. The transmission doesn't downshift after a stop, which can be dangerous in certain situations. For example, if you're at a stop sign on a 55 mph road and you see a vehicle coming, it's not safe to pull out and accelerate quickly because the transmission won't downshift. This means you won't have the power to go faster and could end up in a dangerous situation. Additionally, the AC can only be run when the computer allows it, which can be frustrating and even dangerous if your windows fog up while driving. These are known problems that GM has refused to fix, which is disappointing. It's better to buy a vehicle from another brand that prioritizes safety. I hope this information helps you make an informed decision when purchasing a car.I decided to decline the trade-in offer because the value was much lower than expected. I didn't want to risk being taken advantage of again. As a result, I will be responsible for any repairs my Traverse may need in the future. :-)

An excellent riding and handling vehicle. Although the gas mileage could be better, I'm still happy with it. I was surprised to find that it doesn't come equipped with a glove box light and the instrumentation isn't very user friendly. Additionally, the accent lights can be distracting at night as they show up as a reflection in the mirrors. The rear seats can also be a bit difficult to operate. Overall, I'm still happy with my purchase.

The car has a great size and looks, but unfortunately, there are some issues. The rear and side view mirrors are too small for a car of this size. Additionally, the sunroof cover makes a horrible noise if the window is open and the car is going over 55. The car could benefit from more power, and the speedometer and tachometer are too small and placed off to the extreme sides of the dashboard. However, the real issue is that the car has had some problems, and it has been to the dealership twice. It is frustrating to have paid 55K for a car that is only 6 months old and has less than 2500 miles. The dealership experience has also been challenging, with arguments about bringing the car in and getting a loaner. Despite these issues, I still wanted to buy American, but unfortunately, this experience has made me reconsider. GM has lost a customer who tried to give them a second chance. Thank you for your understanding.
