Chevrolet Traverse problems

The Chevrolet Traverse is a full-size crossover SUV with three-row seating built by General Motors. It is built on the same platform as the GMC Acadia and Buick Enclave, known as the Lambda platform for the first generation, and the C1XX for the second generation. It also shares the C1XX platform with the Cadillac XT6. It is the successor to the TrailBlazer body-on-frame SUV and the Uplander minivan.

The second-generation model debuted in showrooms in the summer of 2017. Starting with the 2019 model year, the Traverse was slotted above the new mid-size Chevrolet Blazer as part of Chevrolet's plans to expand its SUV lineup.

The Traverse name was originally used for a concept car at the 2003 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, but that concept gave way when the Equinox launched for the 2005 model year.

Latest negative Chevrolet Traverse car reviews

  1. Floy Breitenberg 2025-10-23

    Vehicle year: 2019

The 2019 Chevy Traverse experienced starting issues twice within the first month of ownership, despite being bought new. The dealership initially attributed the problem to a battery issue, but the problem persisted. As a result, they are now consulting with GM engineers to determine the root cause of the issue. Rest assured, we are committed to resolving this issue and ensuring that you can enjoy your SUV without any further inconvenience.

  2. Clinton Denesik 2025-10-23

    Vehicle year: 2009

I purchased the 2009 Traverse two weeks ago. On the second day, the check engine light came on and the code reads PT 301, indicating a #1 cylinder misfire. I took it to the dealer and, after two days, they are still unable to find the problem. Despite this setback, I am confident that the issue will be resolved soon and I will have my car back.

  3. Dimitri Larson 2025-10-19

    Vehicle year: 2013

Hi there! Today, on my way to church, my car suddenly slowed down from 45 mph to 15 mph without any warning. It was quite scary, so I pulled over and turned off the engine. Unfortunately, this isn't the first time this has happened to me. The last time was on the highway with my kids in the car, right after chemotherapy. It's just not safe! I took it to the dealership, but they couldn't find anything wrong. I really need a car that I can depend on to get to my appointments. I've already had to fight one huge monster with my health, so I don't need anything else to happen to me or my children. Thank you for listening.

  4. Nico Batz 2025-10-16

    Vehicle year: 2021

When you sit down and the fan is on low, it sounds like the squirrel cage fan is rubbing against something. It can be very annoying.

  5. Brain Powlowski 2025-10-14

    Vehicle year: 2019

I experienced a transmission failure at 600 miles, which left me stranded on the side of the road. Despite the dealer's attempt to fix the issue, the vehicle still had a pronounced transmission whine and smelled like burnt parts after driving. It is currently back with the dealer for another repair. While this may be an isolated case, I am currently in a loaner vehicle for as long as I was in my Traverse. I would have a better review of my Malibu loaner at this point.

Latest positive Chevrolet Traverse car reviews

  1. Jake Jenkins 2025-10-21

    Vehicle year: 2015

I got the Traverse because my son got married and had two children. Whenever we went out to eat, we needed a vehicle that could accommodate at least six passengers, two of whom were in car seats. The Traverse was the perfect choice. However, now that my son is divorced and my husband has passed away, I no longer need such a big vehicle just for myself.

  2. Rene Marks 2025-10-19

    Vehicle year: 2023

Congratulations on your new 2023 Chevy Traverse Premier Redline! It sounds like you made an excellent choice for your family. With features like Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a 360 camera, heated and cooled seats, remote start, and full cabin temperature control, you'll be riding in style and comfort. Plus, the fuel economy is impressive, with a combined 24mpg for both highway and city driving with AWD. Enjoy your new ride!

  3. Jarrell Reichert 2025-10-17

    Vehicle year: 2011

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with you. I'm a Certified Energy Conservation Driving Instructor, and I recently took a 600+ mile highway trip in a vehicle that is rated at 23MPG. Despite my best efforts, I was only able to get 20.1 mpg. I was a bit disappointed, as I was hoping to get upwards of 24-25 with good driving practices. Unfortunately, calling GM and talking to the dealer provided no relief or answers. Have you had a similar experience?

  4. Ethan Block 2025-10-15

    Vehicle year: 2019

I couldn't give honest answers to some of the questions because I have only owned this vehicle for a week. This is my second Traverse. My first was a 2011 and I loved it. I had nothing but routine maintenance on the 2011, so I'm hoping for the same on the 2019. I really like the new one better than the 2011. It has plenty of get up and go, handles well, and is very comfortable, especially on long trips. There's plenty of room too. I would definitely recommend this vehicle. The only thing that disappointed me is that there is less U.S. made content in this vehicle than the 2011. My Traverse is now three years old and I have had no issues or problems.

  5. Jesse Pollich 2025-10-14

    Vehicle year: 2016

I recently purchased a basic model of a truck and while there isn't anything particularly impressive to mention, I have found that the truck is very spacious and comfortable to ride in. It also has a great appearance. However, I have noticed that the fuel mileage is not as good as I had hoped. The sticker claims that I should be getting 19 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway, but I am only getting around 12-13 mpg in the city and have yet to determine the highway mileage since I primarily drive in the city. I do have AWD, which may be contributing to the lower fuel efficiency. Overall, I am satisfied with my purchase and am looking forward to taking it on a road trip.***Update*** Unfortunately, the highway mileage is no better than the city mileage and I am still getting around 12-13 mpg.
