Chevrolet Traverse problems

The Chevrolet Traverse is a full-size crossover SUV with three-row seating built by General Motors. It is built on the same platform as the GMC Acadia and Buick Enclave, known as the Lambda platform for the first generation, and the C1XX for the second generation. It also shares the C1XX platform with the Cadillac XT6. It is the successor to the TrailBlazer body-on-frame SUV and the Uplander minivan.
The second-generation model debuted in showrooms in the summer of 2017. Starting with the 2019 model year, the Traverse was slotted above the new mid-size Chevrolet Blazer as part of Chevrolet's plans to expand its SUV lineup.
The Traverse name was originally used for a concept car at the 2003 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, but that concept gave way when the Equinox launched for the 2005 model year.

In summary, the Chevrolet Traverse has faced several issues over the years, including transmission failure, engine problems, steering issues, and airbag problems. As a fellow car buyer who values safety, value, technical specs, and size, I highly recommend the Traverse LT AWD, 2015 model with Technology Package & Running Board. Our family has put it through its paces, from ice and snow to flooded areas and everything in between, and it has handled everything with ease. Even in the heavy traffic of metro Atlanta, it has proven to be a reliable and safe choice. When compared to higher-end German and Japanese luxury SUVs, the Traverse offers more features for a lower price. While it may not provide the same joy ride as the German models, the savings of $10k - 18k in the purchase price more than make up for it. After extensive research and comparison, we chose the Traverse and have had no recalls or mechanical issues. The AWD provides added safety and better handling, making it a great choice for rainy days in the south. Plus, if you have a medium-to-large size dog or need to haul a lot of stuff, the fold-down 3rd row provides ample room. We were concerned about downsizing from our Ford Expedition SUV, but the Traverse has proven to be more than capable. Lastly, buying American cars helps keep jobs in America. Thank you for considering the Traverse LT AWD!Yes, buying American cars can be helpful because I've noticed that many of the parts in my car are made by US companies, regardless of where they may have sourced them. Keeping even one job in America can have a positive impact on our economy. While I see many people around me driving Japanese or German brands for the prestige factor, I don't feel the need to boost my image with a particular car model. To me, a car is simply a mode of transportation. At the end of the day, what's most important is having a car that safely gets you from point A to point B without breaking the bank.

The Good: The car has plenty of space. I have fit five adults, two infants in car seats, a dog and a stroller in the car before. The cargo area is plenty big, even with the third row up. While heavy on acceleration, it actually turns quite nimbly for its size. The ride is comfortable in every seat - the third row can accommodate a small adult for normal trips, and a larger male for short trips. Bad: The gas mileage is around 17 miles per gallon and the cargo door is not very wide or tall. Overall: I would definitely buy this car again. It fit my exact needs for something safe for my infant twin sons, large enough to carry their stuff, but stylish enough for a 32-year old man who refused to own or drive a minivan. Although the gas mileage is not great, it was not a priority for me when purchasing this car.

I purchased this car with 45,000 miles and it currently has 86,000 miles. Here is a summary of the maintenance problems I have encountered since then. Unfortunately, within 10,000 miles of purchase, I experienced various front suspension, tire, and driving issues. I had to visit the dealership 7 times to fix the following problems: the power steering pump and rack and pinion had failed, and both front wheel bearings needed replacement. I also had to replace the tires. Thankfully, these fixes resolved the power steering issue and terrible tire vibration. Since then, I have had to replace the brakes and rotors, and flush the engine coolant and transmission system. Although I did not experience any leaks prior, I noticed a pile of engine coolant under the Traverse the day after the coolant was replaced. I assumed the technicians did not put something back on right or created a new issue. However, the water pump failed the next day after the engine coolant was replaced (76,000 miles). It was a bizarre coincidence since there was no problem before. The cost of parts and labor was another $730. Although the list of issues goes on and on, I would like to share my experience with the Traverse and suggest that you consider other options. I have a Chevy truck that I love, but unfortunately, this Traverse has not been a good fit for me.

We experienced a transmission failure at only 10k miles, which left my family stranded in 95 degree heat. Despite reaching out to Chevy roadside assistance, Onstar, and local dealers, we were unable to get any help as we were in a very rural area after 6pm on a Saturday and no rental car places were open, no Uber, no internet- just voice cell service. We had to pay to get it towed to our dealership as Chevy wanted to tow it to a small local dealership. We had to call friends to come and get us. The repairs took 2 weeks, including plate replacement and software re-load to fix. Unfortunately, one month later, while trying to get to a wedding, the transmission would not engage when shifting into drive while the engine was hot. We will have to take it back to the shop. It is important to note that this year model still has some bugs that need to be worked out, particularly with the 9-speed transmission which is not reliable. We did ask Chevrolet to give us relief and buy back the vehicle, but unfortunately, we were denied. We strongly advise you to avoid this car at all costs, despite the attractive look and features. Thankfully, my family is okay, but this could have ended very badly. It is not worth the risk to your family, especially since Chevrolet will not take ownership of this defect.

2010 traverses can be extremely dangerous as they may suddenly lose power at any speed, causing the vehicle to slow down to 15 mph or even stall out completely. It has been reported that thousands of Chevy Traverse owners have experienced this issue almost daily, and unfortunately, Chevy has not taken any action to address it. It may be worth considering a class action lawsuit to hold Chevy accountable for this problem.

The Powerplant at high mileage (151K) can be a challenging issue to deal with. However, we have taken the necessary steps to address the problem and have had success in resolving it. In 2021, we spent $3400 on replacing the coil-packs, plugs, O2 sensor, and Sea-Foaming the entire engine system. Although the previous mechanic was unable to fix the issue, we were able to identify and replace the faulty parts. In 2022, we continued to address the mis-firing issues and were able to replace the necessary parts to get the vehicle running smoothly again. We understand that there have been challenges with this particular engine, but we have the expertise and knowledge to handle any issues that may arise. We stand behind our work and are confident in our ability to provide quality service to our customers.

The 2nd and 3rd row seats may not be the most comfortable for adults as they are not very spacious. Additionally, the MPG is not great, averaging 19 MPG for my recent 2000 mi round trip with a family of 3 and gear. The mix of city and highway driving resulted in an average of 15 mpg. At 3K, the transmission required some work as it lost 3.5 qt of oil (where it went was not known). While it may not be the best for hauling my 18' aluminum boat, it still gets the job done, although the MPG is worse or similar to a 3/4 ton truck, at 10 mpg. I would prefer if the covers for the sunroof were different and if the 2nd sunroof could open, but unfortunately they do not. The radio unit could also use some improvement, with real buttons that go down when pushed. However, the ride is decent and quiet on the highway, and the 3.5L V6 engine is suitable for the size of the vehicle.
