2018 Buick Lacrosse problems

The Buick LaCrosse is a four-door, front-wheel-drive sedan manufactured by Buick since model year 2005, and marketed variously across four generations for the North American and Chinese markets.
The first-generation LaCrosse replaced the Century and Regal in North America beginning for model year 2005 as a five- or six-passenger, four-door, front-wheel-drive, V6-powered sedan using GM's mid-size W platform—and marketed in Canada as the Buick Allure. Notably, the first generation was also offered with a V8 engine, as a high-performance sub-model marketed as the LaCrosse Super (2008–2009). LaCrosse production and marketing began for China with model year 2006.
The second-generation LaCrosse was introduced for 2010 as a larger premium sedan for North American and Chinese markets using a long-wheelbase (LWB) variant of the Epsilon II platform shared with the Cadillac XTS—and available solely as a five-passenger sedan with a range of four- and six-cylinder engines.
The third generation was introduced for North America and China for model year 2017 using the GM Epsilon platform shared with the Chevrolet Impala, notably offering a mild hybrid powertrain combining 20-kilowatt (27 hp) electric and 2.5-liter Ecotec gasoline engine. North American production ended with the third generation, with model year 2019; however, it continued to be offered in China, with a 2019 facelift.
The fourth-generation LaCrosse, launched in 2023, is currently manufactured and marketed solely in China. It is powered by a turbocharged 1.5-liter or 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine.

Common 2018 Buick Lacrosse problems
The 2018 Buick Lacrosse has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from owners. These issues include:
- Door Lock Actuator Failure: Many Buick LaCrosse owners have reported issues with the door lock actuator. This failure can prevent passengers from opening the door from both sides, making it difficult to enter or exit the vehicle.
- Clunking Noises From Steering: Some LaCrosse owners have reported hearing clunking noises while steering their vehicles. This issue has been reported for the 2005 to 2014 model years and can be a sign of a more significant problem with the steering system.
- Headlight Failure: The 2005 and 2006 LaCrosse models have been reported to have issues with headlights, including the low beams flickering or going out completely. This can be a severe and dangerous issue, although it is not too expensive to repair.

- Air Bag Light On/Off While Driving: The 2008 LaCrosse has been reported to have issues with the airbag light turning on and off while driving. This can be a severe safety issue and may require costly repairs.
These are some of the most common problems reported by Buick LaCrosse owners. While the LaCrosse has above-average reliability ratings, these issues can be a concern for potential buyers. Why was Buick LaCrosse discontinued?
There was even a fun LaCrosse once, though GM gave up on LaCrosse here after 2019, probably because Buick's core American demo is older and also because Buick's existence in America as a sort of quasi-luxury brand was increasingly confusing.

We traded our 2010 Lacrosse CXS with 92,000 trouble-free miles for this car 15 weeks ago. Ours is the Premium trim level. We absolutely love the car and haven't found anything to complain about in almost 5,000 miles. Among the many great things are the smooth ride, comfortable seats, Auto stop/start, and impressive gas mileage - 35 mpg on highway trips, 21-22 around town, and 24.2 overall, probably 90% around town. The technology is easy to use, and the sound system is fantastic. We also appreciate the new style gear shifter, spacious trunk, and quiet operation. Our friends who have ridden in this car are blown away. Before buying this car, we test drove several other models, including the Toyota Avalon, Chevy Impala, Lincoln MKZ, and Nissan Maxima. However, none of these compared to the comfort, handling, styling, and overall perceived quality of the 2017 Buick Lacrosse. To put things in perspective, we have purchased 12 new Buicks since 1966, and this one is head and shoulders above all the previous 11. Buick hit a home run with this design!

Please note that the car does not come with a spare tire, but one can be purchased for an additional cost of over $500. It is important to be cautious when entering ramps, driveways, parking lots, and cement barriers, as the front of the car sits quite low. Additionally, in areas with built-up snow in the middle of the street, such as in the city, the car may have difficulty without bottoming out.

As a retiree, I was in search of a comfortable and spacious car with user-friendly controls and top-notch safety features for my wife and me to travel in. The Buick Lacrosse exceeded my expectations. I was particularly impressed with the safety features, especially the heads-up display, and the ease of use of the entertainment and navigation systems. Unlike most luxury cars, the Lacrosse has a touch screen that is not distracting. The Lacrosse's trunk is spacious, making it easy to store luggage. On the road, the Lacrosse is incredibly quiet and comfortable, with ample power when needed. I was pleased with the overall mileage of 29.4 mpg on the first fill-up, which included a 200-mile trip to PA and mixed driving. Although I found the lack of a sunglass holder in the overhead and the visibility out the front when making turns and parking to be a bit troubling, I was able to use the space under the shifter for my sunglasses. The transmission hunts a bit at low speed going up twisty hills, but I found that shifting into manual mode smoothed it out. Despite some minor issues, I find the Lacrosse to be a perfect fit for my needs and look forward to many miles of comfortable and quiet travel. Unfortunately, after 7500 miles, the Intellilink display went blank and started a reboot that took two hours. This happened twice in two weeks, and I took it to the dealer, who found a bad module that prevented data reading. The part has been on order for three weeks, and I am still waiting for an update.

This is our fourth Buick and it has met or exceeded our expectations. The ride is fantastic, and we love the way it handles. We are still getting used to all the features, but we are seniors and need to work at understanding how they work. The gas mileage is great, and we were very happy with everything on our first road trip. The headlights following the road around corners and the backup camera are must-haves. We are also getting used to the E-assist and the way it shuts down and restarts by itself. Overall, we are very happy with our purchase!

I have a crimson red premium with the 20I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to let you know that I woke up feeling more rested than on previous trips. Maybe I'll end up liking this car after all.

I recently test drove the Lacrosse for a weekend and while the car has many positive attributes, there were a few major issues that kept me from buying it. Let's start with the good: The engine and transmission are a dream and provide smooth, quick, fuel efficient operation. The engine has strong acceleration and utilizes cylinder deactivation on the highway. I achieved an incredible 31 mpg highway which is very good for this size of car. The 8-speed transmission is the best I have ever driven and unlike other 8-speeds, it doesn't hunt back and forth for the right gear. It shifts so imperceptibly, there were many times I had no idea what gear I was in. Lastly, you can order Adaptive Cruise with an 18The latch mechanism attached to the back trunk wall was stationary and exposed. It was covered in grease and appeared to be locked in the closed position, preventing it from engaging with the seat back. Despite my best efforts, I couldn't figure out how to release it. Upon further inspection, I noticed that there was some white polyester foam stuffed behind the trunk wall and the seat back that seemed to be coming loose. I wasn't sure where the foam was supposed to go or what its purpose was. Unfortunately, on the morning I was supposed to return the car, the battery died and I had to charge it. To make matters worse, an error light came on indicating a transmission problem. Considering the car cost over $43,000 and had only 700 miles on it, I was disappointed to encounter these issues. In contrast, my 15' Impala was perfect and trouble-free throughout my 24-month lease. The Impala had wide, supportive, and comfortable seats, and the car was quiet with great build quality and materials. Although I wish I could have taken the advanced engine and transmission from the new car, I ended up purchasing the 2017 model. One downside of the Impala (Hello GM!) is that I had to opt for 20

If you are considering purchasing a car, I would like to share my experience with Buick. Unfortunately, I had a negative experience with their customer care and would not recommend buying from GM. I purchased a 2018 Buick Lacrosse as a new car, and it has had a water sloshing sound behind the dashboard since 2019. Despite visiting the dealer service center more than seven times and having the heater coil and water pump changed, as well as the air purged from the system, the problem persists. Although the service center claims they cannot hear the sound, it is still present every time I drive the car. I have not received the level of customer care I expected from either the dealer service or GM customer center. I hope my experience can help inform your decision. Thank you.

I did a lot of research before purchasing this car. On paper, it looked great - huge, comfortable, full of tech, and with all the necessary safety features. I found a great deal on it, 30% off with only 3000 miles on it. During my test drive, everything seemed okay - the ride was soft, quiet, and smooth. However, when I drove it on a windy highway with steep inclines and declines, I noticed some issues. The front driver seat was uncomfortable, and there was noticeable vibration under the seat when the speed was above 60. The whole car shook when the speed approached 80, and the transmission shifted up and down, causing the car to kick front and back when going uphill. Even after driving it for 1500 miles, I still couldn't find a comfortable position to sit in, even with a seat cushion. The car waddled all the time, and I even experienced motion sickness. Although I loved the car before I bought it, I can't even drive it now because of the discomfort. It's hard to believe, but I miss my Corolla LE with its mere 128 hp and terrible wind noise and revving engine uphill and downhill. At least I could put earbuds in and forget about the road. This car keeps rocking and jerking me, and I'm stuck with it. After two years, the car continues to jerk and shake, and the transmission is terrible, especially in cold weather. The tires wore out after only 35k miles, and the Bose subwoofer makes a loud buzz with each beat. I can't wait to get rid of this car.

The ride of the base sedan I rented for 4 days was smoother, quieter and more free of vibration than any car I have driven in the past two years, including the Toyota Avalon, Lexus ES350, Lincoln Continental, and Impala. However, I did find the seats uncomfortable. The seat bottom is hard, causing soreness and fatigue to set in within 15 minutes. Additionally, the seat back lacks sufficient lumbar support, even when the power control is set for maximum support. On the bright side, the powertrain is smooth and quiet, the air conditioner is cold and powerful, and the gearshift control is unconventional but easy to figure out. Interestingly, I found that several much less expensive full-sized cars have more comfortable front seats than the Buick Lacrosse, Toyota Avalon, and Lincoln Continental, such as the 2018 Toyota Camry and 2017 on up Kia Optima. As a potential buyer seeking ride and seat comfort, my favorite prospect so far is the 2018 Camry LE or XLE, as it offers near LaCrosse levels of ride comfort and quietness with much softer, better-shaped seats and superb directional stability on the highway - all important characteristics for fatigue-free long-distance cruising.

I've been driving my LaCrosse Essence for 3 years and 13k miles, and I had planned to purchase it once the lease ends. However, I'm now having second thoughts. On the positive side, the vehicle has been smooth and comfortable, with some power, a quiet ride, and enjoyable driving experience. The gas mileage, while not ideal, is still reasonable. The interior design is also quite stylish, with Buick's Intellilink having an elegant look and the navigation software being particularly impressive with its 3D view. On the downside, the transmission is a major concern. While it hasn't been as problematic for me as it has been for others, I have noticed that it shifts poorly when slowing down to a near stop and then accelerating again. I'm also worried about its reliability in the long run, given GM's reputation for automatic transmission issues. The stop-start system is not a major issue for me, but it does seem like a waste and only shuts off the engine for a short time. The navigation interface is a bit clunky, and the climate controls are not very intuitive. However, I have grown accustomed to them, including the unusual gear shift knob/system. The stereo system is a bit of a letdown, despite paying for the upgraded Bose system. Overall, I have mixed feelings about the LaCrosse Essence, but I appreciate its positive features and hope that the transmission issues won't become a major problem.Feels like it has no midbass, no kick. In fact, despite Buick angling to get rid of the
