2001 Chevrolet Impala problems
The Chevrolet Impala (/ɪmˈpælə, -ˈpɑːlə/) is a full-size car that was built by Chevrolet for model years 1958 to 1985, 1994 to 1996, and 2000 to 2020. The Impala was Chevrolet's popular flagship passenger car and was among the better-selling American-made automobiles in the United States.
For its debut in 1958, the Impala was distinguished from other models by its symmetrical triple taillights. The Chevrolet Caprice was introduced as a top-line Impala Sport Sedan for model year 1965, later becoming a separate series positioned above the Impala in 1966, which, in turn, remained above the Chevrolet Bel Air and the Chevrolet Biscayne. The Impala continued as Chevrolet's most popular full-sized model through the mid-1980s. Between 1994 and 1996, the Impala was revised as a 5.7-liter V8–powered version of the Chevrolet Caprice Classic sedan.
In 2000, the Impala was reintroduced again as a mainstream front-wheel drive car. In February 2014, the 2014 Impala ranked No. 1 among Affordable Large Cars in U.S. News & World Report's rankings. When the 10th generation of the Impala was introduced for the 2014 model year, the 9th generation was rebadged as the Impala Limited and sold only to fleet customers through 2016. During that time, both versions were sold in the United States and Canada. The 10th-generation Impala was also sold in the Middle East and South Korea.

2001 Chevrolet Impala recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 10 recalls for different components of the 2001 Chevrolet Impala.
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE
- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 1998-1999 Chevrolet Lumina and Oldsmobile Intrigue, 1997-2004 Buick Regal and Pontiac Grand Prix, 2000-2004 Chevrolet Impala, and 1998-2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo vehicles. The affected vehicles were previously repaired under recalls 08V-118, 09V-116, and 15V-201 to address the possibility that engine oil may drip onto the hot exhaust manifold.
- Consequence: Engine oil that drips onto the hot surface of the exhaust manifold may result in a fire.
- Remedy: The remedy applied under recalls 08V-118, 09V-116, and 15V-201 did not adequately remove the safety risk. Under the improved remedy, dealers will replace the engines front valve cover and gasket. Vehicles that are covered by recalls 08V-118, 09V-116, or 15V-201 that have not yet received the original remedy will instead receive the improved remedy under the original recall number. The recall began on February 19, 2016. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300, Oldsmobile customer service at 1-800-442-6537 and Pontiac customer service at 1-800-458-8006. GM's number for this recall is 15757. Note: Until the improved remedy has been applied, owners are advised to park their vehicle outside since the fire risk exists even when the vehicle is unattended.
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION
- Summary: This defect can affect the safe operation of the airbag system. Until this recall is performed, customers should remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the ignition key. The key fob (if applicable), should also be removed from the key ring. General Motors LLC (GM) notified the agency on July 3, 2014, that they are recalling 5,877,718 model year 2000-2005 Chevrolet Impala and Monte Carlo, 1997-2003 Chevrolet Malibu, 2004-2005 Malibu Classic, 1999-2004 Oldsmobile Alero, 1998-2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue, 1999-2005 Pontiac Grand Am and 2004-2008 Pontiac Grand Prix vehicles. In these models, the weight on the key ring and/or road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position, turning off the engine.
- Consequence: If the key is not in the run position, the air bags may not deploy if the vehicle is involved in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will install two key rings and an insert in the key slot or a cover over the key head on all ignition keys, free of charge. The recall began on September 9, 2014. GM's number for this recall is 14350.

SOME OF THESE VEHICLES HAVE A CONDITION IN WHICH DROPS OF ENGINE OIL MAY BE DEPOSITED ON THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD THROUGH HARD BRAKING.
- Consequence: IF THE MANIFOLD IS HOT ENOUGH AND THE OIL RUNS BELOW THE HEAT SHIELD, IT MAY IGNITE INTO A SMALL FLAME AND MAY SPREAD TO THE PLASTIC SPARK PLUG WIRE CHANNEL AND BEYOND INCREASING THE RISK OF AN ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRE.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE ENGINES FRONT VALVE COVER AND FRONT-VALVE-COVER GASKET WITH NEW PARTS OF AN IMPROVED DESIGN AND REMOVE THE ENGINES PLASTIC COVER AND PLASTIC OIL-FILL-TUBE EXTENSION, FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING MAY 2016. I love my car! The ride is great. I have over 145,000 miles on it and this week is the first time I have had to replace the axles. This car has been so good to me and I would definitely buy another. It's like anything, if you take care of it, it will take care of you. Make sure to do your maintenance, it really does make a difference.

Edmunds is absolutely right! While it may share a name with the classic Impala, this stunning front-wheel-drive family sedan is a completely different beast from the V8-powered rear-drive models of the past. In fact, it's a much better sedan overall! With excellent performance from both the 3.4 V6 and 3.8 V6 engines, it outshines its competitors from Ford, Chrysler, and Toyota.

This vehicle compares very favorably to other mid-sized domestic cars. The 3.8L V-6 is definitely worth the extra money. As someone who drives 40K miles per year, I can attest to the comfort and quiet ride being welcome features. It's even big enough to take a foursome golfing, with its ample legroom in the back and cavernous trunk. Overall, it's slightly smaller than the Intrepid, but of better quality. In fact, it's hands down better than the Taurus and Grand Prix.

US auto makers need to improve their reliability. The car may look and handle great, but it is not reliable. I am confident in my decision to switch back to NISSANs.

To be honest, I bought it used as an ex-security car. Unfortunately, I've had some issues with the head gasket, lifters, tie rods, and the air conditioning. However, the car has held up well with 184,000 miles on it. The key lock problem can be a bit of a hassle, but I've found that leaving the key in the on position for exactly 11 minutes will reset it. It's not ideal when you're in a rush, but it's manageable.

My grandma used to own this car, and it was hardly driven. When her license was revoked, I took on the old Chevy as a second car to my Volvo XC90. I must admit, having an extra car is convenient, but this one is not very exciting. It's easy to drive, but the seats are designed for slouching, which can get uncomfortable. Although the front has some good features, the rest of the car is not very attractive. The steering wheel feels a bit plasticky (because it is) and the shifter is not very responsive. The car does have decent handling and power, but it's not perfect. If you're looking for a practical extra car and don't care much about cars, this one might be a good choice. However, if you're a car enthusiast like me, you might want to look elsewhere.

I purchased the car approximately 5 months ago. Although I had high hopes for it, I have been thoroughly disappointed with its performance. The gas gauge has stopped working, and the car has trouble starting about half the time. Additionally, the gas mileage is not as good as advertised. Overall, my experience with this car has been extremely negative, and I would not recommend it to anyone. I previously owned a Chrysler, which I loved, but had to replace due to an accident. In my opinion, this Chevy is not worth the investment.

I have owned GM cars for a very long time and currently have 6 of them. However, I have been experiencing some issues with this particular car such as traction control problems, brake issues, wheel play, and having to replace the hubs twice. Additionally, the dashboard constantly displays problems. I am disappointed with my experience and would hesitate to purchase another car like this from GM. Best of luck, GM. I am moving on.
