2006 Chevrolet Impala problems
The Chevrolet Impala (/ɪmˈpælə, -ˈpɑːlə/) is a full-size car that was built by Chevrolet for model years 1958 to 1985, 1994 to 1996, and 2000 to 2020. The Impala was Chevrolet's popular flagship passenger car and was among the better-selling American-made automobiles in the United States.
For its debut in 1958, the Impala was distinguished from other models by its symmetrical triple taillights. The Chevrolet Caprice was introduced as a top-line Impala Sport Sedan for model year 1965, later becoming a separate series positioned above the Impala in 1966, which, in turn, remained above the Chevrolet Bel Air and the Chevrolet Biscayne. The Impala continued as Chevrolet's most popular full-sized model through the mid-1980s. Between 1994 and 1996, the Impala was revised as a 5.7-liter V8–powered version of the Chevrolet Caprice Classic sedan.
In 2000, the Impala was reintroduced again as a mainstream front-wheel drive car. In February 2014, the 2014 Impala ranked No. 1 among Affordable Large Cars in U.S. News & World Report's rankings. When the 10th generation of the Impala was introduced for the 2014 model year, the 9th generation was rebadged as the Impala Limited and sold only to fleet customers through 2016. During that time, both versions were sold in the United States and Canada. The 10th-generation Impala was also sold in the Middle East and South Korea.

Common 2006 Chevrolet Impala problems
Based on the complaints from owners of the 2006 Chevrolet Impala, several common problems have been identified:
- Transmission Issues:
- Owners reported heavy jerking, hesitation, and loud noises as the transmission approached 100,000 miles.
- Premature wear or leaking fluid lines were often the cause of transmission problems.
- Transmission pressure control solenoids were known to fail prematurely, leading to difficulty and unpredictability in shifting gears.
- Repair costs for transmission issues could range from $500 to over $3,000.
- Oil Consumption:
- The 2006 Impala was prone to excessive oil consumption, with owners needing to add oil regularly.
- Instead of leaking oil, many Impalas were observed to burn oil at a faster rate compared to other vehicles.
- Impalas nearing or exceeding 100,000 miles were particularly susceptible to oil burning, requiring frequent refills.
- Some owners reported using about a quart of oil every thousand miles.
- Passlock Security System:
- The Passlock system, designed to prevent theft, caused issues for many owners.
- Problems included being locked out of cars, flashing engine and security lights, and issues with starting the vehicle.
- Solutions involved checking the Passlock sensor, replacing the body control module, or installing a new ignition switch, with repair costs often exceeding $500.
- Delayed Acceleration:
- Many 2006 Impala owners faced delayed acceleration due to a slow response in the drive-by-wire electronic throttle system.
- This throttle lag not only caused frustration but also posed potential safety risks for drivers.
- Addressing this issue required attention to the electronic throttle system to ensure proper and timely acceleration.
These common problems with the 2006 Chevrolet Impala, as reported by owners, highlight significant issues related to the transmission, oil consumption, security system, and acceleration delays. Addressing these issues promptly and with professional assistance can help maintain the performance and reliability of the vehicle.

- VIN: 2G1WU581869
- Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE
- Summary: According to my obd scanner the components that are failed is the throttle body position sensor circuit A & the throttle body position sensor circuit B. Before this happened the check engine light was on for about a week, when I scanned the vehicle with the obd-II the code for a large leak in the fuel EVAP system came up. One day while driving the vehicle I was stopped at a red light and once the light turned green I pressed the gas and the car started to sputter and move very slow also in the driver information center it intermittently showed the warnings service traction control and speed reduced. I had to pull over when safe to do so. Once I got the vehicle home I ran the scan again and it came up with the throttle body position sensor codes. The part is available for inspection. The safety of me and my passenger were in jeopardy we could've definitely been in an accident because it was so sudden when it happened. I have not taken the car to a dealer but an independent mechanic has looked at it. Vehicle has not been inspected by anyone other than me and an independent mechanic. This was a very scary experience and I have seen many forums with the same issues from GM cars. Your attention is needed and appreciated.

2006 Chevrolet Impala recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 2 recalls for different components of the 2006 Chevrolet Impala.
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION
- Summary: This defect can affect the safe operation of the airbag system. Until this recall is performed, customers should remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the ignition key. The key fob (if applicable), should also be removed from the key ring. General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2005-2009 Buick LaCrosse, 2006-2011 Buick Lucerne, 2000-2005 Cadillac DeVille, 2006-2011 Cadillac DTS, 2006-2014 Chevrolet Impala, and 2006-2007 Chevrolet Monte Carlo vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the weight on the key ring and road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position, turning off the engine.
- Consequence: If the key is not in the run position, the air bags may not deploy if the vehicle is involved in a crash, increasing the risk of injury. Additionally, a key knocked out of the run position will cause loss of engine power, power steering, and power braking, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will install two key rings and an insert in the key slot or a cover over the key head on all ignition keys, free of charge. The recall began on September 23, 2014. Owners may contact General Motors customer service at 1-800-521-7300 (Buick), 1-800-458-8006 (Cadillac), and 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet). GM's number for this recall is 14299.

A POTENTIAL MATERIAL OR DESIGN DEFECT COULD RESULT IN THE STEERING KNUCKLE BREAKING IN THE HUB AREA.
- Consequence: A BROKEN STEERING KNUCKLE COULD RESULT IN LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL AND A POSSIBLE CRASH WITHOUT WARNING.
- Remedy: DORMAN WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE STEERING KNUCKLES FREE OF CHARGE AND REIMBURSE THE REPAIR FACILITY OR OWNER FOR LABOR. THE RECALL BEGAN ON FEBRUARY 23, 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT DORMAN'S TOLL-FREE HOTLINE AT 1-800-523-2492 AND PRESS 5.

This car is so comfortable and great for road trips! Although the seats are tall and can cause a blind spot, you get used to it. The sun visors are a bit short, but you can adjust to that. Unfortunately, the tire monitor warning has been on since I got the car, and no dealer or mechanic has been able to fix it. However, the warning light is reliable when the oil gets 1 quart low. The car drives great in bad weather and will give you whip-lash in a second in good weather. Overall, I absolutely LOVE this car!
-
Fun to drive! I noticed that you mentioned needing more cup holders and not having the fold down rear seats option. That can definitely be a bummer, especially since there's no keyhole to access the trunk. If you ever have a dead battery, you won't be able to get jumper cables out of the trunk. But overall, I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying the driving experience!

After waiting 27 years, I was able to obtain this beautiful car. With careful consideration and prayer, the good Lord blessed me once again with this elegant automobile. Merry Christmas and praise the Lord! This car is truly a godsend. Best regards, Tim.

Hi there! I just wanted to share my experience with my trusty 2006 blue Impala SS. It's been my daily driver for years and has clocked an impressive 245,000 miles! Of course, with any car, there have been some setbacks - I had to replace the engine at 200k and rebuild the transmission due to the power of the V8. However, overall I would definitely recommend this car to anyone looking for a powerful yet fuel-efficient option (when it decides to go to 4cyl mode).
-
This car handles extremely well and has the power of a 1960s-1970s hi performance car (I've had a few). The technology is great, showing me when tires are low, what gas mileage I get at any given time, and a lot more. This car is definitely the best buy out there!

I recently purchased a 2006 SS Impala and unfortunately, I have experienced several issues with it. The check engine light has come on twice and the sensors needed to be replaced. Additionally, I had to replace the front wheel bearings and the radio stopped working properly. Even though the car had less than 40,000 miles, I had to replace the tires after less than 2,000 miles. I spent $1,200 on a new set of tires, but they did not last long. The water pump failed at 42,000 miles and the tie rod needed to be replaced at 50,000 miles. The remote starter also stopped working and the car did not handle well during the winter. The radiator failed at 52,000 miles and the transmission leaked twice. Unfortunately, the hose broke and it was not covered under warranty, costing me $250. Despite these issues, I remain hopeful that I can find a reliable car in the future.

I recently traded in my 2006 Chevrolet Impala LTZ after owning it for three years. Unfortunately, it was a complete nightmare. I had to replace the power steering pump twice and had the power steering serviced four or five times. Whenever the weather got cold, the power steering pump would pressurize and blow the hose off, causing power steering fluid to leak all over the ground. Although the dealership charged me several hundred dollars to fix it, the power steering pump started making a grinding noise again by the time I traded it in several months later. Despite these issues, the car was very nice. It handled well and had plenty of power for passing or moving in traffic.

I purchased this car for my family of four and found it to be very spacious with a large trunk and comfortable seating. It also has good acceleration. However, I must warn potential buyers that the SS model has had some issues. Before we bought the car, it had already undergone two transmission replacements. During the almost five years that we owned it, we experienced a number of issues and were eager to get rid of it. After purchasing the car, the transmission failed again the very next day while driving uphill. The dealer replaced it, but three months later the reverse band went out. After replacing it with a GM Reman Trans, the car would rev and then slam into gear. We took it to GM, but they could not find the issue and replaced the transmission again. In addition, we had to replace the radiator, spark plugs, steering rack, oil pressure switch, tie rods, master window switch, key fobs, and dealt with overheating. In the past month, we have had issues with the battery going dead every few weeks, power steering whine, and overheating. Based on my experience, I would not recommend purchasing this car unless you plan to install a racing transmission. I personally would not buy one of these again.

Hey there! I bought a 2006 Impala back in 2007 and I have to say, I was really drawn to its style, power, and comfort. It had a really quiet ride too, which was a big plus. I got a great deal on it because it was a former rental, and when I bought it, it only had 28,000 miles on it. I ended up trading it in at 99,600 miles, so it definitely served me well. For the most part, it was a pretty reliable car, but I did have some issues with the steering system popping right after the warranty ran out. I also noticed some other problems around 75,000 miles, like the paint not holding up very well and the driver's side visor hanging down. I even had trouble with the brakes pulsating, despite changing the rotors. Random warning lights would come on too, which was frustrating. Finally, I had no heat at idle and ended up needing to replace the head gaskets. The dealer wanted $1,900 to fix it, which was a bit steep. Overall though, I really enjoyed driving my Impala and it served me well for many years.

I absolutely love my PALA! I purchased it with 53,000 miles and have owned it for just over a year. I have already put 82,000 miles on it, as I love to drive it everywhere, especially during spring break! My car is what you might call 'souped up' - I have bigger 20-inch rims and it rides fantastically. The transmission is holding up well (knock on wood) and I haven't had too many issues, just a few things that I broke from modifying the car. I even have custom dual pipes that make the 3.5L engine roar! Although I am unfortunately upgrading to a Chevy Avalanche next year, I still think this car was a great choice. I did find out that the car has a history of being in an accident, which upset me, but it is still going strong.
