2004 Chevrolet Impala problems
The Chevrolet Impala (/ɪmˈpælə, -ˈpɑːlə/) is a full-size car that was built by Chevrolet for model years 1958 to 1985, 1994 to 1996, and 2000 to 2020. The Impala was Chevrolet's popular flagship passenger car and was among the better-selling American-made automobiles in the United States.
For its debut in 1958, the Impala was distinguished from other models by its symmetrical triple taillights. The Chevrolet Caprice was introduced as a top-line Impala Sport Sedan for model year 1965, later becoming a separate series positioned above the Impala in 1966, which, in turn, remained above the Chevrolet Bel Air and the Chevrolet Biscayne. The Impala continued as Chevrolet's most popular full-sized model through the mid-1980s. Between 1994 and 1996, the Impala was revised as a 5.7-liter V8–powered version of the Chevrolet Caprice Classic sedan.
In 2000, the Impala was reintroduced again as a mainstream front-wheel drive car. In February 2014, the 2014 Impala ranked No. 1 among Affordable Large Cars in U.S. News & World Report's rankings. When the 10th generation of the Impala was introduced for the 2014 model year, the 9th generation was rebadged as the Impala Limited and sold only to fleet customers through 2016. During that time, both versions were sold in the United States and Canada. The 10th-generation Impala was also sold in the Middle East and South Korea.

MY DAUGHTER TOLD ME THIS HAD BEEN OCCURRING FOR SEVERAL WEEKS. REALIZING THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED, I CALLED THE GM DEALER FOR HELP. THEY TOLD ME THE BUCKLE ASSEMBLY IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE TO BE REPLACED. I THEN CALLED GM DIRECTLY TO SEE ABOUT GETTING THIS PART AND TO REPORT THE SERIOUSNESS OF THIS SAFETY CONCERN. THEY CREATED A SERVICE REQUEST CASE NUMBER 9-6357435144. THEY IN TURN DIRECTED ME BACK TO THE DEALER I ORIGINALLY CALLED. THE DEALER'S SERVICE TECHNICIAN THEN SUGGESTED I GET A USED BELT BUCKLE FROM A JUNKYARD. I CALLED GM AGAIN AND THEY ATTEMPTED TO DIRECT ME AGAIN BACK TO THE ORIGINAL DEALER I HAD CALLED AND THEY CONNECTED ME TO PREVIOUSLY. WHEN I TOLD THEM I NEEDED TO HAVE THEM FIND THIS PART FOR ME, THEY SIMPLY DIRECTED ME TO ANOTHER NEARBY DEALER. WHEN SPEAKING TO THIS DEALER, THEY DID NOT HAVE THE BUCKLE ASSEMBLY ALSO, BUT WERE ABLE TO LOCATE OTHER DEALERS THAT HAD IT. IT WILL TAKE A WEEK FOR THIS PART TO ARRIVE. IN THE MEANTIME, MY DAUGHTER IS DRIVING IN THE TWIN CITIES WITHOUT A SEAT BELT AS IT IS DEFECTIVE. I PRAY SHE DOES NOT GET IN AN ACCIDENT AS IT IS WINTER IN MINNESOTA. PLEASE NOTIFY OTHER OWNERS OF THIS MODEL CAR THAT THEY MAY HAVE A SIMILAR BAD EXPERIENCE AND NOTIFY GM TO TAKE THIS PROBLEM MORE SERIOUSLY THAN THEY HAVE WITH ME SO FAR. RESPECTFULLY, GLEN WOLF

I LIVE RIGHT SMACK IN THE HEART OF THE SOUTH IN A VERY SMALL TOWN IN TENNESSEE AND KEEP IN MIND, IT IS REALLY HOT AND HUMIDITY IS RIDICULOUS THIS TIME OF YEAR. I PICKED UP MY DAUGHTER AT A FRIENDS HOUSE AFTER WORK, ABOUT 5:25 PM LAST THURDAY, 9/5/19, AND MY CAR DIED AS I'M DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, LIKE THE ENGINE JUS SHUT OFF FOR NO REASON AT ALL , I HAD FILLED MY TANK A FEW DAYS PRIOR AND KNEW THAT WAS NOT THE PROBLEM. MY FIRST THOUGHT WAS TO PUT IN NEUTRAL BEFORE LOSING MUCH SPEED AND TRIED TO CRANK SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE HITTING MY FLASHERS BECAUSE THERE WERE A FEW CARS BEHIND ME ON A 2 LANE ROAD WITH VERY LITTLE SHOULDER ROOM TO PULL OVER OFF ROAD. I POPPED THE GOOD TO SEE IF I COULD SEE OR MAYBE EVEN SMELL ANYTHING THAT MAY HAVE CAUSED THIS PROBLEM. I'M MAKING SURE MY BATTERY CABLES AREN'T LOOSE, NO FLUIDS LEAKING OR SPEWING AND LUCKILY A STATE TROOPER WAS PASSING THRU AND STOPPED TO SEE IF I NEEDED HELP AND TURNED HIS LIGHTS ON SO TRAFFIC WOULD KNOW THERE WERE PROBLEMS AND COULD SLOWLY GO AROUND. TO MY SURPRISE, AFTER EXPLAINING WHAT HAPPENED, HE SAID HE HAD THIS PROBLEM BEFORE WITH HIS DAUGHTERS CAR, 2002 IMPALA, AND TOLD ME TO TRY THE 10 MINUTE RESET PROCEDURE AND SURE ENOUGH, AFTER THAT 10 MINUTE RESET, SHE FIRED RIGHT HOME AND WAS ABLE TO GET HOME, HOME HAD HE NOT COME ALONG AND ALREADY KNOWN BOUT THIS FAULTY SYSTEM PRIOR, MY DAUGHTER AND I WOULD HAVE BEEN STUCK FOR SOME TIME ON THE SIDE OF A 2 LANE HIGHWAY IN THE EARLY SEPTEMBER HUMIDITY MOST LIKELY WAITING FOR A TOW. UPON RESEARCHING AFTER, FOUND GM ARE AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND SHOULD HAVE TO FIX IT, BEEN NEGLECTED LONG ENOUGH! THANK YOU!

- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE
- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 1998-1999 Chevrolet Lumina and Oldsmobile Intrigue, 1997-2004 Buick Regal and Pontiac Grand Prix, 2000-2004 Chevrolet Impala, and 1998-2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo vehicles. The affected vehicles were previously repaired under recalls 08V-118, 09V-116, and 15V-201 to address the possibility that engine oil may drip onto the hot exhaust manifold.
- Consequence: Engine oil that drips onto the hot surface of the exhaust manifold may result in a fire.
- Remedy: The remedy applied under recalls 08V-118, 09V-116, and 15V-201 did not adequately remove the safety risk. Under the improved remedy, dealers will replace the engines front valve cover and gasket. Vehicles that are covered by recalls 08V-118, 09V-116, or 15V-201 that have not yet received the original remedy will instead receive the improved remedy under the original recall number. The recall began on February 19, 2016. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300, Oldsmobile customer service at 1-800-442-6537 and Pontiac customer service at 1-800-458-8006. GM's number for this recall is 15757. Note: Until the improved remedy has been applied, owners are advised to park their vehicle outside since the fire risk exists even when the vehicle is unattended.

In the affected vehicles, the valve cover gasket may leak.
- Consequence: The leaking engine oil can drip onto the hot surface of the exhaust manifold, increasing the risk of a fire.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will remove the plastic cover and plastic oil fill tube extension and replace the front valve cover and gasket. These repairs will be done free of charge. The recall began on April 24, 2015. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300, Pontiac customer service at 1-800-762-2737 or Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. In these models, the weight on the key ring and/or road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position, turning off the engine.
- Consequence: If the key is not in the run position, the air bags may not deploy if the vehicle is involved in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will install two key rings and an insert in the key slot or a cover over the key head on all ignition keys, free of charge. The recall began on September 9, 2014. GM's number for this recall is 14350.

I purchased this car for $700. These cars are actually quite good, but some people may not take care of them properly, abuse them, or end up with a lemon. However, this Impala is definitely not a lemon. With 182k miles and counting, the engine runs very well and has a nice, mean sound to it. I test drove other Impalas, but they didn't sound like this one. It has decent pick up, although I do wish the base model had a little more power. It is slightly heavier than most sedans. So far, I haven't had any serious problems with it and no check engine lights have come on. I've even floored this car about 8 times since I got it, and nothing has gone wrong. It just goes to show that miles don't always matter. If you think this car doesn't have enough pick up, try changing the plugs and wires, oil filter, and air filter. Your engine has a lot to do with your performance, of course.

Great deal on a Mid/Large Sedan. You can't go wrong with a 2004 Impala (1SB package) with only five miles on it and an out the door price of $18,700 (including tax, tags, and title).

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share my experience with this car. I bought it back in 06 when it only had 20k miles on it. I've found that it gets 32mph on long highway runs and 20mph in the city. It's been incredibly reliable, roomy, and comfortable. I would definitely recommend it in a heartbeat!

We've had our Impala since we bought it new in 04. It's a fast, smooth, and comfortable car, and I must say, it's the most comfortable car I've ever ridden in. It can seat six people with an enormous trunk. We've only had to do oil changes and just recently brakes, so it's been a hassle-free experience. I love this car and expect to get another 160,000 miles out of it. Also, the Bose stereo is amazing!

This car is the best I have ever owned, hands down! I had been waiting for two years to purchase an Impala, and let me tell you, it was definitely worth the wait! The drive is incredibly smooth and quiet, and the acceleration and cornering are truly impressive. The gas mileage is great for a larger car, at 22/32. The interior is spacious and the trunk size is amazing. My kids and even my big hubby fit perfectly and comfortably. The stereo has a lot of different features, such as auto volume and radio data system, and it sounds fantastic! This car turns heads constantly, especially when it's clean and bright red!

Hi there! I bought my car back in January of '04. I've been a Chevy owner for about 40 years and have always been happy with their cars. However, my '04 model was noisy from the start. The dealer initially said it was the tires, but even after changing them to Goodyear this year, the road noise is still pretty bad. Additionally, the windows tend to fog up whenever it rains, which makes visibility very poor. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be buying another Chevy anytime soon.

I purchased my Impala in 2004 and, for the most part, I like it. It drives very well on the highway. However, the interior design could be improved. The parts used feel cheap and the cup holders are awkwardly placed on the armrest between the driver and front passenger. The interior lighting is not well-placed to help with visibility and the map lights are built into the mirror, requiring you to lean forward to see the map. Additionally, the radio has reception problems, which I am told is due to the back window defroster. The suspension could have been better designed as we have gone through three sets of tires, replaced the rotors twice (front and back), and the heater blower. We also needed an alignment each time the tires were changed.

I bought this car around 4 years ago with 35k miles on it. At the time of purchase, I also got an extended warranty for another 35k miles. Although I have a black one, the paint job looks a bit cheap. If you have tinted windows, you might experience some difficulty getting good reception from the AM radio. Unfortunately, after owning the vehicle for a year, we had to replace the radiator. Luckily, it was covered under the warranty I had purchased, which saved me around $1500.00. I can hear a clunk in the steering column, which might be a loose linkage somewhere, but it's a bit disconcerting. The value of the vehicle has decreased since I purchased it.

The Security Light illuminates and prevents the car from starting for a period of 10 minutes. This issue has escalated from occurring once a month to twice a day. Despite contacting Chevy, no solution has been provided and there is no indication of a recall. After researching online, it appears that many others are experiencing the same problem, with only temporary solutions available for a cost of $800 or more. Given the potential safety implications, it is imperative that Chevy takes action and initiates a recall. It is important to address this issue promptly and effectively. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

I bought this car from my father-in-law, so I got a good deal. Unfortunately, I have had some issues with it, such as having to replace the water pump at 40000 miles, and the transmission slamming hard between 2nd and 3rd gear. The steering also makes an awful sound due to poor lubrication of the intermediate shaft. Additionally, the trunk freezes shut in the winter and is almost impossible to open without a handle. The security system (passlock) has malfunctioned a few times, causing the car not to start, and the brakes have warped prematurely. However, the car is comfortable and rides well, with decent power and fuel economy. Overall, while I have had some problems with this car, it still has its good points. It's time for me to sell it, but I will always remember the good times I had in it.
