The Chevrolet Impala (/ɪmˈpælə, -ˈpɑːlə/) is a full-size car that was built by Chevrolet for model years 1958 to 1985, 1994 to 1996, and 2000 to 2020. The Impala was Chevrolet's popular flagship passenger car and was among the better-selling American-made automobiles in the United States.

For its debut in 1958, the Impala was distinguished from other models by its symmetrical triple taillights. The Chevrolet Caprice was introduced as a top-line Impala Sport Sedan for model year 1965, later becoming a separate series positioned above the Impala in 1966, which, in turn, remained above the Chevrolet Bel Air and the Chevrolet Biscayne. The Impala continued as Chevrolet's most popular full-sized model through the mid-1980s. Between 1994 and 1996, the Impala was revised as a 5.7-liter V8–powered version of the Chevrolet Caprice Classic sedan.

In 2000, the Impala was reintroduced again as a mainstream front-wheel drive car. In February 2014, the 2014 Impala ranked No. 1 among Affordable Large Cars in U.S. News & World Report's rankings. When the 10th generation of the Impala was introduced for the 2014 model year, the 9th generation was rebadged as the Impala Limited and sold only to fleet customers through 2016. During that time, both versions were sold in the United States and Canada. The 10th-generation Impala was also sold in the Middle East and South Korea.

Common 2007 Chevrolet Impala problems

The 2007 Chevrolet Impala has been reported to have several common problems, including transmission issues, power lock problems, and heater malfunctions.

Transmission problems have been a significant concern for many Impala owners, with some units experiencing loud noises, slipping, and difficulty shifting gears. These issues have been reported in the 2005, 2006, and 2011 models, with repair costs potentially reaching up to $2,970.

Power lock problems have also been reported in some 2008 Impalas. The locks may work intermittently or fail to operate completely. Replacing faulty components like the lock assembly, actuator, or sensor has been found to solve the issue in most affected vehicles.

Heater malfunctions are another common problem in the 2007 Chevrolet Impala. Some owners have reported that their heaters suddenly stopped working due to clogged lines, which mechanics speculate may have been caused by low-quality antifreeze. Cold air blowing from the heater vents while the vehicle is on idle has also been reported. Possible causes for heater malfunction include a faulty thermostat or a head gasket leak. Some owners have attempted to solve the issue by having their Impala detailed, but this did not solve the problem.

These common problems can significantly impact the reliability and overall ownership experience of the 2007 Chevrolet Impala. Regular maintenance and timely repairs can help mitigate these issues and extend the vehicle's lifespan.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-06-17
  • VIN: 2G1WT58K179
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
  • Summary: I started for the first time in early June of having reduced engine power. At this time I get several warrning lights on dashboard. I get engine power is reduced, traction control and engine light. The car goes into limp mode. I replaced the accelerator pedal position sensor after the first event. Since this time I had it happen 4 more times. This situation can be dangerous if a car is behind me and I slow up real quick due to going into limp mode. I try to pull over where I can when this happens. Once I pull over for 10 minutes the car will resume like normal driving with just the engine light on. The next day the engine light usually leaves. It is hard to know when this will occur but it can be a dangerous situation to be in.

2007 Chevrolet Impala recalls

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 3 recalls for different components of the 2007 Chevrolet Impala.

2014-06-23
  • Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION
  • Summary: This defect can affect the safe operation of the airbag system. Until this recall is performed, customers should remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the ignition key. The key fob (if applicable), should also be removed from the key ring. General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2005-2009 Buick LaCrosse, 2006-2011 Buick Lucerne, 2000-2005 Cadillac DeVille, 2006-2011 Cadillac DTS, 2006-2014 Chevrolet Impala, and 2006-2007 Chevrolet Monte Carlo vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the weight on the key ring and road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position, turning off the engine.
  • Consequence: If the key is not in the run position, the air bags may not deploy if the vehicle is involved in a crash, increasing the risk of injury. Additionally, a key knocked out of the run position will cause loss of engine power, power steering, and power braking, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
  • Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will install two key rings and an insert in the key slot or a cover over the key head on all ignition keys, free of charge. The recall began on September 23, 2014. Owners may contact General Motors customer service at 1-800-521-7300 (Buick), 1-800-458-8006 (Cadillac), and 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet). GM's number for this recall is 14299.

A POTENTIAL MATERIAL OR DESIGN DEFECT COULD RESULT IN THE STEERING KNUCKLE BREAKING IN THE HUB AREA.
  • Consequence: A BROKEN STEERING KNUCKLE COULD RESULT IN LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL AND A POSSIBLE CRASH WITHOUT WARNING.
  • Remedy: DORMAN WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE STEERING KNUCKLES FREE OF CHARGE AND REIMBURSE THE REPAIR FACILITY OR OWNER FOR LABOR. THE RECALL BEGAN ON FEBRUARY 23, 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT DORMAN'S TOLL-FREE HOTLINE AT 1-800-523-2492 AND PRESS 5.

  • Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE SERIAL NUMBER ON THE FUEL TANK AND REPLACE THE FUEL TANK IF NECESSARY. THE RECALL BEGAN ON NOVEMBER 13, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT BUICK AT 1-866-608-8080, CHEVROLET AT 1-800-630-2438, OR PONTIAC AT 1-800-620-7668.

Negative 2007 Chevrolet Impala car reviews

  1. Chris Reichert 2024-08-06

This car was truly beautiful both inside and out. However, it unfortunately had many issues that were too expensive to fix, so I decided to sell it and purchase a Hyundai Elantra instead. The issues included steering rack failure, headlights blinking on and off, transmission slipping, oil pressure light coming on, and expensive brake and tire replacements. It also had trouble maintaining alignment and wore down the rear tires. Despite these issues, the interior was stunning with creamy white leather and dark wood trim. The air conditioning, heating, and stereo systems worked well, and I especially enjoyed the remote start feature and heated front seats. Overall, I was disappointed with the car's performance, but I still appreciated its beauty and features.

  2. Miller Schultz 2024-07-29

Hello! I hope you're doing well. I noticed that the rear wheels on your vehicle are not adjustable for alignment. I had a tire dealer put adjustments on my aftermarket, but unfortunately, GM would not support this action after-the-fact. I heard of a police car recall in effect for a similar problem, but GM would not stand by or admit to the failure of virtually the same problem on my vehicle. They did not allow it under the Chevy extended warranty. Additionally, I experienced a problem with the intermediate steering shaft at only 57,000 miles, which required a replacement. Lastly, I noticed that the driver's door leaks during rain. I hope this information helps!

  3. Kenneth Predovic 2024-06-06

I recently purchased a 2007 Impala with less than 12,000 miles. Unfortunately, shortly after the 3 year, 36,000 mile warranty expired, the AC Compressor stopped working. The repair cost was $1400, which was unexpected and disappointing. I reached out to Chevrolet customer care for advice and cost assistance, hoping they would acknowledge that this was a manufacturer defect. However, they were unable to provide any assistance. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this vehicle or any Chevrolet due to the poor quality and unsatisfactory customer service.

  4. Alexander Farrell 2024-05-08

I purchased this car brand new in 2007 and have driven it for 96,000 miles. While I have encountered some issues such as the key getting stuck in the ignition, the car being stuck in park, and the traction control coming on while driving, I have taken care of these problems promptly. Additionally, there have been some minor issues with the vent actuators making a clicking noise and the heater only warming up while in motion. I have also experienced some tire wear, but this is to be expected with regular use. Currently, I am dealing with an oil and transmission leak, as well as some difficulty with the brakes. Despite these challenges, I have kept up with regular maintenance, having the car serviced at 50,000 miles and again recently. Overall, I am confident in my ability to address any issues that arise with this car.

  5. Dillon Reichert 2024-01-27

When I bought my 2007 Chevy Impala with 30,000 miles on it, I was excited about having a great car. Unfortunately, I have experienced several issues since then. The outside trim is falling off, and I have to add oil before 3000 miles with no explanation. Additionally, my traction control comes on in warm, dry weather and causes the car to slow down with warning lights saying 'reduced engine power'. Now, the check engine light is on constantly. However, leaving the traction control off is working so I can at least drive it. The radio is not working well, and the heater only works while driving, not while idling, which is not ideal in Michigan. Despite these issues, I still appreciate my car and the memories I have made with it.

Positive 2007 Chevrolet Impala car reviews

  1. Jasmin Dickens 2025-01-04

At 35 miles per gallon on the highway and 24 mpg in the city, this large car with a V6 is quite acceptable. It's also worth noting that this vehicle can run on ethanol-85, which is likely to become the gas of the future. With OnStar communication included, this vehicle is a practical and superior choice compared to any imported cars in the 30 to 50k range. I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my experience with my 2007 Impala. I purchased it in 2010 with only 32,000 miles on it and it was GM Certified. It's still in great shape! I was initially concerned about the rear tire camber issue that I had read about online, but I'm happy to report that my car has the original Goodyear Integrity tires and they're only about half worn at 32,000 miles. This leads me to believe that not every 2007 Impala had that issue. From what I've gathered, it may only be a problem with the 3.9L models, which were primarily used for Police vehicles. Overall, I'm very pleased with my car. It's black and has a very masculine look to it, which I appreciate as a truck guy. It handles very well, is quick, and is incredibly comfortable to drive.

Great to hear that you enjoy driving it and find it handles well. It's also great to know that the fuel economy is above average and that you can use flex fuel. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

This car is fantastic! I can see why there are so many of them on the road. Mine has an impressive 263 thousand miles on the original powertrain (engine and transmission) and I've never had any major issues. The 3.5 V6 engine has the perfect amount of power and gets decent gas mileage for a car of its size. It drives so smoothly and is incredibly spacious inside. I would definitely recommend this car, as long as it's been properly maintained!

Auto doorlocks can be a bit of a pain if you forget to move, but overall the Impala is a fantastic car. It's comfortable and exciting to drive, and definitely not your Grandpa's Chevy.
