The Cadillac SRX is a mid-size luxury SUV and compact luxury crossover SUV (CUV) manufactured and marketed by Cadillac over two generations: the first generation as a five-door, three-row, seven-passenger CUV (2003–2009), and the second generation as a five-door, two-row, five-passenger CUV (2010–2016) – the latter becoming Cadillac's best selling model in the United States.

First generation (2004)

Engine options included the 255 hp (190 kW) High-Feature V6 and the 4.6 L 320 hp (239 kW) Northstar V8. It was based on the GM Sigma platform and came with a five or six-speed automatic transmission; rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive and MagneRide were available. As a Sigma platform vehicle, the first generation SRX had a longitudinally mounted front engine, longitudinal transmission mounted behind the engine, and a rear drive differential. The AWD option was implemented with a transfer case mounted to the rear of the transmission, with a propeller shaft forward to a front differential to power the front wheels.

An all-leather interior and curtain side airbags were standard in both models. Heated front seats and wood interior trim were standard in the V8 and available as options in the V6. DVD, sunroof, navigation system, and a power foldable third-row seat were all available options. However the third row was no longer available for the 2010 model year on the SRX.

The base price was US$38,880 for the V6 and US$45,880 for the V8 version.

The SRX won Car and Driver's Five Best Trucks "luxury SUV" award for 2004, 2005 and 2006 and was nominated for the North American Truck of the Year award for 2004.

The first generation SRX never had the V Series performance model available.

The first generation SRX was available through the 2009 model year.

DEALERS IN LA AND TX COULDN'T DUPLICATE PROBLEM. CAR CONTINUED TO QUIT RUNNING OFF AND ON. BATTERIES BURNED UP ON TWO OCCASIONS, TECHNICIANS SUSPECTED BAD HARNESS BUT COULDN'T LOCATE PROBLEM. RETURNED TO AL IN 2009, TOOK CAR TO DEALER TOLD THEM TO FIX, REPLACE OR TAKE BACK. THEY SAID COULDN'T DUPLICATE SO I LEFT THE CAR WITH THEM AS AN UNSAFE VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER STATED HE EXPERIENCED PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE RATTLING AND THE GAUGES NOT WORKING. THE DEALER FOUND THE SOURCE OF THE RATTLE, WHICH WAS AN EXHAUST BRACKET THAT WAS NOT INSTALLED CORRECTLY, BUT COULD NOT LOCATE THE PROBLEM WITH THE GAUGES, OR WHY THE ENGINE STALLING. SEVERAL DAYS LATER, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. IT WAS DETERMINED THE BATTERY WAS DEAD. A NEW BATTERY WAS INSTALLED, AND AS THE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING, THE GAUGES STOPPED WORKING AGAIN.

While the exterior and interior were nice, the drive and handling left much to be desired. I noticed that American cars tend to perform better on straight, flat roads, which is not the case in Europe. I have previously owned an X5 and a Range Rover Sport, which were much more suitable for my needs. Despite this, the car still looks great on my driveway.     I am a proud owner of a 2008 V-6 Rear Wheel Drive SRX Luxury Base with Sunroof in Raven Black with light grey interior, and I am extremely happy with my choice! I purchased my truck from a GM dealership and it came with a drive train warranty which I never needed. With the exception of some corrosion under a loose battery cable, it has been trouble-free and awesome. Although the SRX has some timing chain issues from oil sludge and oil usage that goes unnoticed by some, I opted for the V-6 because the V-8 has its own issues and it requires premium gas to run right. I wanted the comfort, styling, panoramic sunroof, Bose system, true rear-wheel drive, which rules out the SRX after 2009, the ground clearance and sporty handling. I have a Z-71 Silverado 4x4 for off-road or hauling needs, and that V-8 Chevy can run fine on regular too. Although my SRX doesn't get great gas mileage, I drive it like a sports car, so that's to be expected. Checking the oil and changing the oil at least every 5000 miles in that V-6 with what GM recommends, and they will give you good service. If you do get a bad one and you have to change the timing chain once that's done you're good. I have the same engine in my Camaro Convertible, and that's the key to trouble-free service, clean oil.
