As a Sigma platform vehicle, the first generation SRX had a longitudinally mounted front engine, longitudinal transmission mounted behind the engine, and a rear drive differential. The AWD option was implemented with a transfer case mounted to the rear of the transmission, with a propeller shaft forward to a front differential to power the front wheels.
An all-leather interior and curtain side airbags were standard in both models. Heated front seats and wood interior trim were standard in the V8 and available as options in the V6. DVD, sunroof, navigation system, and a power foldable third-row seat were all available options. However the third row was no longer available for the 2010 model year on the SRX.
The base price was US$38,880 for the V6 and US$45,880 for the V8 version.
The SRX won Car and Driver's Five Best Trucks "luxury SUV" award for 2004, 2005 and 2006 and was nominated for the North American Truck of the Year award for 2004.

THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE PASSENGER'S SIDE REAR TIE ROD BOLT FRACTURED, CAUSING THE WHEEL TO TURN INWARDS AT A 90 DEGREE ANGLE. THE VEHICLE WAS RELEASED TO THE INSURANCE COMPANY. DISASSEMBLY WAS DELAYED DUE TO MEDICAL TREATMENT UNRELATED TO THIS INCIDENT. TRANSMISSION FAILED SUDDENLY IN HIGH VOLUME "RUSH" HOUR TRAFFIC. TORQUE WAS LOST JUST BEFORE AN EXIT ALLOWING THE VEHICLE TO EXIT WITHOUT POWER HOWEVER THE VEHICLE STOPPED IN MIDDLE LANE OF A SERVICE ROAD. ON COMING VEHICLES HAD TO BRAKE BEHIND THE VEHICLE. SUDDEN TRANSMISSION FAILURE IN HEAVY HIGH SPEED TRAFFIC PRESENTS A HIGH RISK OF REAR COLLISION WITH MULTIPLE VEHICLES AND INJURY. FURTHERMORE, IF THE TRANSMISSION FLUID PUMP HAD NOT FAILED, THE TRANSMISSION COULD HAVE LOCK-UP OR EXHIBITED HIGH SPEED DOWN SHIFTING, DUE TO FAILURE OF OTHER PARTS. THIS INCIDENT SHOULD NOT BE DISMISSED BECAUSE THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT OR PERSONAL INJURY. SOME MOTHER WITH CHILDREN COULD EASILY HAVE A DIFFERENT OUT COME ON A CROWDED LARGE CITY HIGHWAY. NO COMPUTER CODES WERE DISPLAYED. 5LTE-40 5-SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. DISASSEMBLY OF THE TRANSMISSION REVEALED EXCESSIVE METAL PARTICLES AND DEBRIS. THE TRANSMISSION FLUID PUMP FAILED WHICH CAUSED LOSS OF TORQUE DUE TO INADEQUATE FLUID LEVELS IN THE TORQUE CONVERTER. CLOGGING OF THE FLUID "PICK-UP" FILTER ALSO PROBABLY CONTRIBUTED TO REDUCED FLUID FLOW AND FAILURE OF THE FLUID PUMP. A NON-METALLIC WASHER WAS FOUND TO HAVE DISINTEGRATED, ALLOWING FRAGMENTS TO CIRCULATE IN THE TRANSMISSION. THE WASHER SEPARATED 2 SPLINED DRUMS. DISINTEGRATION OF THE WASHER ALLOWED EXCESSIVE MOVEMENT AND CONTACT OF THE DRUMS. RECOMMEND GMC BE CONTACTED TO OBTAIN THEIR COMMENT ON FAILURE OF THESE TRANSMISSIONS, AS WELL AS STATISTICAL REVIEW OF INCIDENT REPORTS TO DETERMINE IF FAILURES ARE STATISTICALLY GREATER THAN IN THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY, IN GENERAL. HOW MANY LIVES WILL BE NEGATIVELY IMPACTED BY INJURIES AND DEATH AS A RESULT OF NOT HAVING GM ADDRESS THE ISSUE OF USING GARBAGE MATERIALS FOR HYDRAULIC LINES? SHAME ON EVERYONE INVOLVED IN THE DECISION TO CHALK THIS UP TO SALT CORROSION. AT THE TIME OF MY 2000 SILVERADO COMPLAINT, GM ASSURED ME THAT THIS WOULD NOT HAPPEN TO MY 2008 CADILLAC SRX..... SHUT OFF ENGINE AND APPLIED EMERGENCY BRAKES TO PREVENT ROLLING BACKWARDS INTO ON COMING VEHICLES. REQUESTED TOW VEHICLE AND POLICE ASSISTANCE TO PREVENT REAR END COLLISION. VEHICLE CURRENTLY IN STORAGE. SLIDING METAL SOUND WHEN ENGINE IS STARTED, THEN NO NOISE. FAINT GRINDING WHEN TRANSMISSION SHIFTER IN DRIVE OR REVERSE. NONE IN NEUTRAL. WE DID NOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE AND HAD IT TOWED TO THE MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC CHANGED OIL AND FILTER AND SAYS HE DOESN'T KNOW WHAT IS WRONG WITHOUT GOING THROUGH THE ENTIRE ENGINE TO FIND THE PROBLEM. TOOK IT TO ANOTHER MECHANIC WHO SAID IT IS NOT KEEPING OIL PRESSURE, THE CAMSHAFTS ARE MISFIRING AND HE THINKS THE TIMING CHAIN IS AN ISSUE. THEY BOTH SAID IT NEEDS A NEW ENGINE AND IT HAS JUST UNDER 85,000 MILES.

RETURNED TO AL IN 2009, TOOK CAR TO DEALER TOLD THEM TO FIX, REPLACE OR TAKE BACK. THEY SAID COULDN'T DUPLICATE SO I LEFT THE CAR WITH THEM AS AN UNSAFE VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER STATED HE EXPERIENCED PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE RATTLING AND THE GAUGES NOT WORKING. THE DEALER FOUND THE SOURCE OF THE RATTLE, WHICH WAS AN EXHAUST BRACKET THAT WAS NOT INSTALLED CORRECTLY, BUT COULD NOT LOCATE THE PROBLEM WITH THE GAUGES, OR WHY THE ENGINE STALLING. SEVERAL DAYS LATER, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. IT WAS DETERMINED THE BATTERY WAS DEAD. A NEW BATTERY WAS INSTALLED, AND AS THE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING, THE GAUGES STOPPED WORKING AGAIN.

The 2008 Cadillac SRX was built on the CTS chassis, which means it's the size of an SUV with the handling of a sedan. The power is great and the comfort is exceptional. There is a huge amount of creature comfort in that car. Road and wind noise are minimal. As long as you maintain the car, it will run smoothly. It's a good solid buy.

I am a proud owner of a 2008 V-6 Rear Wheel Drive SRX Luxury Base with Sunroof in Raven Black with light grey interior, and I am extremely happy with my choice! I purchased my truck from a GM dealership and it came with a drive train warranty which I never needed. With the exception of some corrosion under a loose battery cable, it has been trouble-free and awesome. Although the SRX has some timing chain issues from oil sludge and oil usage that goes unnoticed by some, I opted for the V-6 because the V-8 has its own issues and it requires premium gas to run right. I wanted the comfort, styling, panoramic sunroof, Bose system, true rear-wheel drive, which rules out the SRX after 2009, the ground clearance and sporty handling. I have a Z-71 Silverado 4x4 for off-road or hauling needs, and that V-8 Chevy can run fine on regular too. Although my SRX doesn't get great gas mileage, I drive it like a sports car, so that's to be expected. Checking the oil and changing the oil at least every 5000 miles in that V-6 with what GM recommends, and they will give you good service. If you do get a bad one and you have to change the timing chain once that's done you're good. I have the same engine in my Camaro Convertible, and that's the key to trouble-free service, clean oil.

I wanted to share my experience with the American car market, but unfortunately, the vehicle I chose did not meet my expectations. While the exterior and interior were nice, the drive and handling left much to be desired. I noticed that American cars tend to perform better on straight, flat roads, which is not the case in Europe. I have previously owned an X5 and a Range Rover Sport, which were much more suitable for my needs. Despite this, the car still looks great on my driveway. I hope that American car manufacturers will continue to improve their vehicles in the future. Now, I need to head to the local supermarket. Have a great day!

This car has the worst gas mileage I have ever experienced. However, the V8 engine is powerful and quiet, and the car feels heavy but handles well. The interior is comfortable, although the third row could be improved. Overall, this car has its pros and cons, but its performance is impressive.

My gas mileage decreases with every fill up. Despite overpaying for the vehicle, it has depreciated significantly in value. Additionally, the third row seat, sun roof, and steering wheel heat do not function properly. There is also an issue with water accumulating in the emergency rear compartment. 8 months into the purchase, I begin to believe that I've got a lemon. Currently, it is broken down and has been here and there throughout the tenure.Here is the chronological order of things that broke down:1. The issues with this car are completely unacceptable for a vehicle of this level. Despite my loyalty to GM, I am now considering exploring other options such as Lincoln or Acura.
