2015 Infiniti Qx80 problems
The Infiniti QX80 (formerly called the Infiniti QX56 until 2013) is a full-size luxury SUV marketed by Nissan's luxury division Infiniti. The first-generation QX56 was built in the United States and is based on the first-generation Armada. The second-generation model was released in 2010 as a model produced in Japan, which used the sixth-generation Patrol (later also marketed as the second-generation Armada since 2016) as the base vehicle instead. Since the 2014 model year in 2013, the vehicle was renamed to the QX80 as Infiniti renamed their entire product line under a new nomenclature.
First generation (JA60; 2004)
The first-generation QX56 (model code JA60) is based on the first-generation Armada, while also sharing the F-Alpha platform with the first-generation Titan. It is the first Infiniti built in the United States. The QX56 was only marketed in the United States, Canada, Russia, Oman, Bahrain, Qatar, UAE, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. Development on the JA60 QX56 began in early 2000 alongside the WA60 Armada. A final design by Masato Takahashi was reached in early 2001, with an August 2001 design freeze for early 2004 start of production.
The rear door handles were installed on the C-pillar as a Nissan design tradition started with the D21 Pathfinder released in 1985 to visually make it appear like a two-door truck with a camper shell, with conventional door handles on the front doors.
The first-generation QX56 was powered by a 5.6-liter VK56DE V8 engine (320 hp (239 kW) at 4,900 rpm and 393 lb⋅ft (533 N⋅m) torque at 3,600 rpm) and a 5-speed automatic transmission with an overdrive. As is common with aluminum blocks, each cylinder in the engine was lined with cast iron. The valvetrain was a DOHC design with four valves per cylinder. Infiniti designed the QX56's throttle responsiveness to correspond to specific drivetrain modes: when the driver selects all-wheel drive, the throttle becomes less sensitive, presumably to allow easier regulation of acceleration when off-road.
The QX56 had around 9,000 lb (4,082 kg) of towing capacity. Mileage at peak performance drain is 12 miles per US gallon (20 L/100 km; 14 mpg‑imp). It comes in one trim level, with only key options such as: DVD entertainment system, 4WD/2WD, and a bench instead of captain chairs as the second row. Other features which came standard were a ten-speaker Bose system, DVD-based navigation system, leather trim for all seats, dual-climate control, 18-inch chrome alloy wheels, and an adaptive cruise control system. A Precrash system was a unique feature in the market as well.
Since the demise of the Q45 (which was priced above the QX56) after 2006, the QX56 was the most expensive Infiniti sold in North America and was Infiniti's only full-size vehicle.
In early 2007 for the 2008 model year, the Infiniti QX56 received a minor facelift which included a revised grille, a redesigned interior, a new intelligent key system, more standard equipment, new third-row seats that fold electronically and standard 20-inch chrome wheels. Introduced at the 2007 North American International Auto Show in January 2007, the facelifted model went on sale in April 2007.
After the 2010 model year, the QX56 and Armada no longer share the same body, as the first-generation Armada continued to be produced in the United States until the 2015 model year, while the second-generation QX56 switched to the body used by the Y62 Patrol.

Common 2015 Infiniti Qx80 problems
The Infiniti QX80, a luxurious and spacious SUV, has been praised for its blend of elegance, performance, and advanced features. However, like any sophisticated vehicle, it is not immune to occasional problems and issues. In this article, we will delve deeper into some of the most common Infiniti QX80 problems reported by owners, focusing on transmission issues, starting problems, starter-related concerns, suspension glitches, and infotainment system glitches.
Transmission issues are one of the most commonly reported problems with the Infiniti QX80. Some owners have faced problems such as rough shifting, delayed engagement, and in severe cases, complete transmission failure. These transmission issues can be caused by various factors, including a faulty transmission control module, worn-out internal components, or electronic glitches. To prevent or detect transmission problems early, regular maintenance, including fluid changes and inspections, is essential. Timely diagnosis and repairs by experienced technicians can help keep the QX80’s transmission in optimal condition and ensure a smooth driving experience.
Starting problems have been a concern for some Infiniti QX80 owners. Drivers have encountered difficulties starting their vehicles, experiencing issues like the engine not cranking, slow cranking, or intermittent starting problems. These Infiniti QX80 starting problems can often be traced back to components such as a weak battery, faulty starter motor, or a defective ignition switch. To ensure reliable vehicle starts, it is crucial to maintain the battery and regularly check the charging system. Should any starting issues arise, seeking professional diagnosis and repair is recommended to prevent being stranded unexpectedly.
Starter-related problems are closely linked to the starting issues experienced by some QX80 owners. The starter is a crucial component responsible for engaging the engine when the ignition is turned. Signs of a faulty starter may include clicking noises when turning the key, no response from the engine, or intermittent starting problems. Ignoring starter issues can lead to complete vehicle breakdowns. If you suspect any problems with the starter, it is advisable to have the starter system inspected by a qualified technician and replaced if necessary, thus ensuring reliable vehicle operation.
Another one of the top reported Infiniti QX80 problems is related to the vehicle’s suspension system and ride quality. These problems can manifest as excessive bouncing, vibrations, or noises when driving over bumps or rough roads. Worn-out suspension components, such as bushings, shocks, or struts, can contribute to these issues. Regular inspections and timely replacements of worn-out parts can help maintain the QX80’s suspension system and ensure a comfortable and smooth ride.
Infotainment system glitches are another common problem reported by Infiniti QX80 owners. These glitches can include freezing screens, Bluetooth connectivity problems, or unresponsive touchscreens. These issues are typically software-related and can often be resolved through software updates and patches released by the manufacturer. It is essential to keep the infotainment system up-to-date, and if necessary, visit an authorized Infiniti service center for any required software fixes.
In conclusion, while the Infiniti QX80 is a remarkable SUV that offers both luxury and performance, it is essential to be aware of common problems with the Infiniti QX80 that may arise. Transmission issues, starting problems, starter-related concerns, suspension glitches, and infotainment system glitches are among the most frequently reported concerns by QX80 owners. Should you encounter any of these problems, it is best to consult with a qualified mechanic or visit an authorized Infiniti service center for diagnosis and resolution. By taking proper care of your Infiniti QX80, you can maximize its potential and enjoy the luxury and comfort it offers for many years to come.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-05-25
- VIN: JN8AZ2NF3F9
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: I have come to notice that when I put gas in my 2015 Infiniti (V8 engine vehicles only), QX80 vehicles. The fuel pressure sensors may not have been sufficiently tightened during production. As a result, the fuel pressure sensor may loosen with vehicle usage and cause a fuel leak.
FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-11-01
- VIN: JN8AZ2NC7F9
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: I have been noticing intermittent gasoline smell outside of vehicle. It has been smelling stronger and more often so I decided to inspect it for the second. I removed the carpet and fuel pump cover and discovered the fuel pump is leaking gas. Now I cannot drive vehicle due to gasoline leaking every time the ignition is on. It is a serious safety and fire hazard. I have not contacted the dealer because it is not under warranty.
POWER TRAIN,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-10-26
- VIN: JN8AZ2NE5F9
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: The most glaring safety issue caused by below is the SUV will try to move forward on its own while stopped and the brakes pressed that can potentially cause a fender bender. Infiniti/Nissan 5.6L engines have a history of failed or failing viscous cooling fan clutches. This goes back over a decade based on the TSG released by NISMO. When the viscous fan begins to fail, the most glaring symptom is that ECM will compensate by revving up the engine RPM...specially with the AC on. This can cause the RPM to go from around 500 to 1000 RPM during an RPM surge. The surge is enough to move the SUV forward at a stop unless the brake is firmly pressed. On hot weather days, this risk is frequent and significant at a top. This viscous fan issue also puts signficant load on the engine and causes significant power loss to the drive train. This issue does not cause any type of "check engine" light since it is strictly a mechanical failure of the mechanism containing the fluids in the viscous assembly.
AIR BAGS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-05-09
- VIN: JN8AZ2NF1F9
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: The airbag system in my recently purchased (4 months ago)QX80 Infiniti 2015 is malfunctioning/failed. It is available for inspection upon request. The warning light came on within 2 months of my purchase. I took it to the dealerships for repair, was told “this is unusual for this age car & mileage” stating it was the driver curtain airbag module which I paid a large amount to have replaced. When I received the car back, the warning light was no longer on. A month & a half later, the warning light returned. Took it back to the same dealership where I am now told that when it was repaired prior it was merely a guess as to the problem & that now a different part of the system needs replacing (airbag diag system) “in hopes of this being the issue” There is also an accompanying hefty price for this repair. But I was also told (at this juncture) that if this part replacement did not take care of the problem, the next step would be to replace the airbag wiring harness which would cost $7,500.00 (total for all these “repairs” would be above $12,500) If they believe they had repaired the problem with the first repair, why do they not start there? Is/was my driver’s side airbag system working after the first repair or not or was the warning system just reset? I’m concerned that if they only can “believe” they have fixed the problem, how can I be assured that the system IS REPAIRED & will work in case of an accident? Did the system actually “work” with the first repair only to stop working or then oddly another component stop working a month & a half later? I was not able to be assured that even if the harness (most expensive repair of the 3) is replaced that this would actually take care of the problem either. I was told this is the “next step” in the Infiniti step decision tree. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE. I have looked for recall info but have not found any recalls. I am wanting to know if this problem/issue has been reported before on this make/model/year vehicle. Thank you

AIR BAGS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-05-07
- VIN: JN8AZ2NF8F9
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: Airbag light started flashing continuously while driving home on an 8 hour road trip on the interstate. I brought the car to the dealership once returning home, and they stated that they found a code for the left hand curtain air bag module assembly. Then proceeded to tell me that the driver side curtain airbag module assembly needs to be replaced, and if the light continues to flash then the wire harness will need to be replaced as well. This is a serious safety issue. If my vehicle would have been in an accident my airbags may not have deployed. There may be a defect in the side curtain airbags with this vehicle. I know that there is a lawsuit in Utah due to nissan and infiniti vehicles made between the years 2015-2019 due to driver side curtain airbags spontaneously deploying while driving in a normal and safe manner. This leads me to believe that something is faulty concerning the side curtain airbags in these vehicles. My SUV was purchased new, and has always been serviced at the dealership. I have also never had an accident.
ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-12-01
- VIN: JN8AZ2NE0F9
- Components: ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: I purchased a 2015 Infiniti QX80 on March 31, 2021. Since the purchase, I have only driven it approximately 6,000 miles and the check engine light has already come on. I took it to the dealership and they stated that both Catalytic Converters need to be replaced. This vehicle is only 6 years old; it should not need both Catalytic Converters replaced. Upon research, I discovered that there was a recall on 11/28/2014 for certain 2014-2015 Infiniti Q80 vehicles. My vehicle was not part of this recall, however, I know it should have been because I believe this is the reason for the Catalytic Converter failures on my car. VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2015-05-06
- VIN: JN8AZ2NE7F9
- Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: I WAS A PASSENGER IN MY INFINITI QX80 GOING ABOUT 25 +/- . THERE WERE 3 BEEPS AND THE CAR SUDDENLY BREAKED ON ITS OWN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET. I LOOKED UP TO FIND NOTHING IN FRONT OF US. THE DRIVER SAID THE CAR BREAKED SUDDENLY ON ITS OWN! HER FOOT WAS ON THE GAS PEDDLE AND WHEN SHE REACTED BY GOING FOR THE BREAK IT WAS ALREADY TO THE FLOOR. THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO REASON FOR THIS EMERGENCY COLLISION FEATURE TO GO OFF. LUCKILY THERE WAS NO ONE CLOSE ENOUGH BEHIND US TO REAREND US, ALTHOUGH I'M CERTAIN THE DRIVER WONDERED WHY WE SLAMMED ON OUR BREAKS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET. THANKFULLY WE HAD ALREADY GOT OFF OF I80 WHERE OUR SPEEDS RANGED UP TO 70 MPH. THE DEALERSHIP CURRENTLY HAS THE CAR AND CLAIMS THEY CAN NOT FIND ANY ISSUES, I'M FEARFUL OF GETTING BEHIND THE WHEEL AND TAKING ANY CHANCES OF IT HAPPENING AGAIN. THE GENERAL MANAGER ASKED IF IT WERE RAINING HARD WHEN THE INCIDENT OCCURRED.....THIS MAKES ME EVEN LESS CONFIDENT IN THIS SAFETY FEATURE. THE OTHER SUGGESTION WAS AN OBJECT IN THE ROAD. IF THE FEB IS ET OFF BY RAIN OR A SMALL OBJECT IN THE ROAD THAT IS NOT VISIBLE TO THE EYE, THAT IS NOT A SAFETY FEATURE,

This is my third QX. I've owned two QX56s and now the QX80. I've had the opportunity to drive numerous vehicles through the years, but the QX is by far my favorite SUV. Once you experience the QX, it's hard to drive anything else. This vehicle has all the bells and whistles inside and out, and it's incredibly spacious with plenty of horsepower. The quality is evident throughout the entire vehicle. I can't say enough about the QX80. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for quality, beauty, spaciousness, and overall performance.
-
This is our first QX80 and we love it! We bought the limited version and it has all the bells and whistles. It is truly a luxury vehicle. We have owned Lincoln and Lexus full-sized SUVs, and the QX80 is by far the best. The ride and styling are superior.
-
We have owned both Mercedes and Volvos, but we can confidently say that the Infinity QX80 is the superior SUV. Living in snow country, we need a vehicle that can handle all types of weather, and the QX80 does so with ease. Our 2014 V8 400 horsepower gets an impressive 24-28 miles per gallon on the highway. We are so satisfied with our QX80 that we plan to purchase it again in the future.
-
If you're concerned about gas pricing, this vehicle may not be the most cost-effective option. However, this SUV is a fantastic choice to own and drive, with its impressive features and performance. Personally, I have owned three QXs and am looking forward to getting my fourth one soon. In my experience, every competitor vehicle I have been in has been primarily made of plastic and drove like a forklift. This vehicle is truly superior in every way, regardless of price.
-
Awesome vehicle!! It has all the bells and whistles.

Great ride comfort and full of top end options with plenty of power. However, it seems that the rear air suspension has been causing some problems. It's unfortunate that you've had to bring it back to the dealership for the same issue in under 4000 miles, especially after spending 1300 bucks just 3 months ago. Perhaps Infiniti should consider a recall for this issue, as it appears to be a common complaint for the QX80 models.

After researching several competitive models, we were impressed by the fit and finish of the exterior and interior of this 'Limited' model. Although we were disappointed with some of the features, such as the GPS and the service provided by the dealerships, we believe that this vehicle has great potential. If you do decide to purchase this car, we recommend purchasing a Garmin or other GPS as the built-in GPS is not up to par. Additionally, we suggest taking the time to familiarize yourself with the instrumentation before driving. While we have owned several cars, including domestics and exotics, we believe that this car has a unique design that draws many comments. However, we caution against purchasing this vehicle due to the issues we have experienced. Thank you for considering our experience when making your decision.

I recently rented a QX-80 and drove over 300 miles in Colorado during some rainy and snowy weather. Surprisingly, I never had to use the 4wd. While the controls were not the easiest to figure out, the power of the V8 engine was strong. However, at higher speeds, the motor felt a bit sketchy, which may be due to the 5 or 6 speed transmission. During acceleration, the transmission had a tendency to double shift, which made passing less smooth. Despite this, the vehicle handled well and even managed to navigate through Garden of Gods at a low speed. The entertainment system was a bit tricky to use at first, but once I got used to it, it was fine. The QX-80 was very comfortable and could easily accommodate six people. Overall, I would definitely rent it again, but I don't think I would buy it, especially for the price of 65K-70K. I have higher expectations for a vehicle at that price point.

Infiniti has acknowledged a problem with all of the 2015/2016 QX80 SUVs. The fuel sensor in the tank is located too high, which means that the last 7 gallons of a 26 gallon tank cannot be measured. When you have used 19 gallons, the hazard lights on the dash will turn on and indicate that your tank is empty, even though you still have 7 gallons left. Infiniti has been working to resolve this issue, but it has not yet been resolved. We recommend considering this issue before purchasing a QX80 from 2015/2016.
