2016 Acura Tlx problems

The Acura TLX is a four-door entry-level luxury sedan sold by Acura, a luxury division of Honda, since 2014. It is the successor to both the TL and TSX models. As of 2021, the discontinuation of the RLX leaves the TLX as the flagship sedan in Acura's lineup.
Design history
The Acura TLX was first shown as the "TLX Prototype", a sedan designed in Acura's Los Angeles Design Studio, as a replacement of the TL and TSX sedans. The production version was unveiled in April at the 2014 New York International Auto Show. Sales began in August, the TLX entered production during July at Marysville, Ohio, United States.
First generation (UB1/UB2/UB3/UB4; 2015)
Two powertrain options are available. A 2.4-liter four-cylinder DOHC i-VTEC engine with direct injection was offered with front-wheel drive only, mated to a dual-clutch transmission and all-wheel steering (P-AWS). This model's chassis code is UB1. The Honda designed dual clutch transmission is the first to use a torque converter, which absorbs transmission gear shift shock, thus reducing NVH. The engine is rated at 206 hp (154 kW; 209 PS) with an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 24 mpg‑US (9.8 L/100 km; 29 mpg‑imp)/35 mpg‑US (6.7 L/100 km; 42 mpg‑imp)/28 mpg‑US (8.4 L/100 km; 34 mpg‑imp) (city/highway/combined) compared to 22 mpg‑US (11 L/100 km; 26 mpg‑imp)/31 mpg‑US (7.6 L/100 km; 37 mpg‑imp)/26 mpg‑US (9.0 L/100 km; 31 mpg‑imp) (city/highway/combined) from the previous TSX. Honda estimates that the six-cylinder model is 1.5 seconds faster from 0 to 60 mph (0 to 97 km/h).
A 3.5-liter direct injected SOHC VTEC V-6 with cylinder deactivation (VCM) is mated to Honda's first time use of a 9-speed automatic transmission (sourced from ZF), available with either P-AWS or all-wheel drive (SH-AWD). The SH-AWD system uses hydraulic clutches instead of the electromagnetic clutch packs found on the previous TL which significantly cuts weight, size and cost. The engine is rated at 290 hp (216 kW; 294 PS) and front-wheel drive models deliver 21 mpg‑US (11 L/100 km; 25 mpg‑imp)/34 mpg‑US (6.9 L/100 km; 41 mpg‑imp)/25 mpg‑US (9.4 L/100 km; 30 mpg‑imp) (city/highway/combined) while all-wheel drive models are rated at 21 mpg‑US (11 L/100 km; 25 mpg‑imp)/31 mpg‑US (7.6 L/100 km; 37 mpg‑imp)/25 mpg‑US (9.4 L/100 km; 30 mpg‑imp). Model codes are UB2 for the front-wheel drive and UB3 for the SH-AWD, which comes standard with a "Technology Package". TLX models configured with the V6 engine lose nearly 150 lb (68 kg) compared to the FWD TL, and over 225 lb (102 kg) compared to the SH-AWD TL.
Overall length compared to the previous TL was reduced by 3.8 inches (97 mm) while the wheelbase maintains the same length. As with the ninth-generation Accord, the TLX loses the front double wishbone suspension of the TSX and TL in favor of a MacPherson strut arrangement, and loses the TL's all-aluminum front subframe in favor of a lower cost friction stir welded aluminum and steel piece.
To significantly cut down on interior noise, triple door seals are used as well as additional sound insulation.

ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-01-23
- VIN: 19UUB2F5XGA
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: The following complaint is in relation to NHTSA Safety Recall 23V-751 and the Acura Corporation's unwillingness to recompense the registered owner for catastrophic damages that occurred to the engine. The vehicle in question is a 2016 Acura TLX, and the recall applied to the Acura MDX, Honda Pilot, Honda Odyssey and Honda Ridgeline. The manufacturing defect, which potentially involved 248,999 vehicles, was the connecting rod bearing of the crankshaft prematurely wearing and seizing. This is precisely what occurred to this TLX. The chronological events of this incident are quite revealing. On Jan 2023, midwinter, while driving on [XXX] near the Canadian border, the engine completely lost power, leaving the registered owner, XXX stranded on the interstate alone for 30 minutes. There were no warning lights, only a knocking sound originating from the engine. The vehicle was eventually towed to a nearby auto shop. The vehicle was not towed to an Acura or Honda dealership due to the extended distance, as XXX was employed at the US Port of Entry on the US/Canadian border, a remote location. The mechanics at the auto shop determined the entire engine needed to be replaced and repairs were completed on [XXX] and XXX paid $6,360.30 out of pocket. An effort to be compensated by Acura was denied. As of Nov 2023, Honda has 1450 claims. According 23V-751, Honda received its 1st complaint regarding this matter on Feb 2020 and investigated through Sept of 2023. Only until [XXX] did Honda decide to conduct a safety recall, well after the catastrophic failure of the aforementioned TLX which occurred on Jan 2023. And it was only until Jan 2024 that notification (24-002)of this defect was initiated. Again, Acura refuses to accept any responsibility or accountability for this incident, nor did it care to investigate the matter in its entirety, simply stating if the vehicle was not inspected by an Acura dealership (typical response), they are absolved of any wrongdoing. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-02-14
- VIN: 19UUB1F33GA
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: After stop light turned from red to green, I began to accelerate through the intersection, when I felt a strong resistance to me trying to accelerate. Second, all the lights on the dashboard lit up and I proceeded to pull off onto the side of the road. I turned the car off, then on again to see if something just needed to be reset or for a rest. Same thing happened and I was unable to continue to drive my car to work. I had my car towed to a nearby automotive shop and they told me the transmission valve needed to be replaced and possibly the entire transmission. They recommended I have it towed to Acura dealership - which I did. Elk Grove Acura's diagnostic was the same. They said that a new valve may not be the fix and I may need the entire transmission to be replaced. They quoted me at $3900 for valve and $9k for entire transmission. I still owe $9k on the vehicle. I am now in a very sticky situation. I don't believe the transmission should have gone out after 104,000 miles. My boyfriend's parents told me they had the same issue with their Acura. I'm wondering if it's a common issue with Acuras.

I recently test drove a Lexus ES-350, Mercedes C-300, and the Acura TLX V-6 Advance. In my opinion, the Acura TLX V-6 Advance is the best option. It offers a spacious interior with plenty of headroom and width. The car is also very quiet and provides a smooth ride. I did not experience any issues with the 9-speed transmission, which I understand has recently undergone a software update. In comparison, the Lexus ES-350 had too much road noise and limited headroom, while the Mercedes C-300 felt small inside, particularly in terms of width. I particularly appreciated the Acura's separate screens for navigation and sound system, as well as the ELS 10 speaker system with surround sound. The car also boasts good acceleration and gas mileage, as well as a range of technology features. What's more, the Acura TLX V-6 Advance is priced lower than both the Lexus and Mercedes C-300, making it a great value for money. I highly recommend taking one for a test drive - you won't be disappointed!

I've always been a fan of the Acura TL, and recently I had the chance to test drive the Acura TLX. I absolutely loved it, and ended up buying one for myself just two weeks later. The TLX is loaded with features for the money, including adaptive cruise control, active lane keep assist, and brake hold. These features make my daily commute to and from work much more comfortable. It may take a minute to get the hang of all the controls inside, but once you do, they're quite logical. You can either use the spin wheel (similar to BMW and Mercedes but up on the dash), or you can use the touch screen to do a lot of things such as navigation and audio. The stereo is solid and the sub-woofer definitely helps to round it out with solid lows. Prior to owning the TLX, I drove a King Ranch F-150 and I never realized how expensive it was in most cars in this class to get some of the features I have grown accustomed to over time such as air-conditioned seats and remote start. The Acura TLX provides excellent value for the money and I'm really enjoying mine so far. I would definitely recommend that you check it out if you're looking for a sporty 4-door sedan in the $40,000-$45,000 range.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with Acura cars. I've been an Acura guy for 12 years now, and recently bought a new '16 TLX. I did consider other brands like BMW, Lexus, Infiniti, and Jaguar, but I'm really happy I stuck with Acura. The performance, ride, and comfort are amazing, and I get all the bells and whistles that the other guys have at a significantly lower cost. Plus, the car just looks great! Thanks for listening.

This is a really nice car overall. Although I don't love it just yet, it has a lot of great features. I cross-shopped the Mazda 6, Buick Regal Turbo, and Honda Accord V6, but ultimately chose the TLX with the 2.4L 4-cylinder with 8-speed dual clutch and tech package. It's a comfortable, quiet, and light on its feet 4-door sedan with a hint of sport and a fantastic audio system. While the TLX won my spreadsheet analysis comparison, it hasn't quite won my heart yet. I found the 6 and Regal to be sportier and more fun to drive, especially the Regal with the HiPer strut and AWD. The Accord V6 was also a hoot with that sweet V6. However, the TLX is still a great car with a few minor complaints. My biggest issue is with the transmission mapping, as it always feels like it's in a gear too high. Despite this, the TLX can still be sporty if you put it in sport plus and corner carve a bunch of empty curvy streets and keep the revs high and the transmission in a lower gear. Overall, I'm satisfied with my purchase and would recommend it to others. My old TSX is almost 10 years old and a lot has changed since then. The transition from hydraulic to electric steering, the switch from double wishbone to strut front suspension, and the focus on maximizing gas mileage through transmission mapping all affect the driving experience. Ultimately, it was time for a new car and the TLX 4 cylinder was the best choice overall. I really liked it and it fit my budget. I was just hoping to love it.

There are cars with higher performance and more plush interiors available, but the TLX offers the perfect blend of sportiness, comfort, and tech features at an affordable cost. The car has been designed with intelligence and consideration for the driver, making it a practical and enjoyable choice for anyone looking for a luxurious yet affordable ride. I highly recommend the 4 cylinder, 2.4 liter, dual clutch 8 speed transmission with Tech Package. After two years of driving the TLX, I still love it, despite a few minor criticisms. For instance, the key fob signal may not be detected by the car door or trunk if it is in your pocket with your cell phone, which can be a small inconvenience. Additionally, the car could have more

The car was purchased at the end of August and has only been driven 799 miles. After getting the new car, a vibration was felt while driving back home. The car was sent back to the dealer and all four tires were changed, but the vibration persisted at speeds of 75 to 80 MPH. The car was sent back again and the mechanic confirmed the vibration. The service department manager informed us that the manufacturer is aware of this issue and unfortunately, it cannot be resolved. This news is frustrating.

Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with my car. Unfortunately, I've had to take it to the dealership three times because of some issues with the brakes. Even though they said it was a software issue and fixed it, the problem persists. I'm feeling quite frustrated with the situation, to be honest.

I wish I had test-driven the car before leasing it, but unfortunately I didn't. As a loyal Acura customer, I value safety above all else, which is why I have owned three Acuras. My first Acura, a 2009 TSX, was involved in a serious accident where a truck hit my driver's door. Despite the severity of the accident, my passengers and I walked away with only minor injuries thanks to the car's safety features. After the accident, I immediately replaced it with a 2014 Acura TSX and leased it for three years. When it came time to replace it, I was disappointed to learn that the TSX was no longer being produced and had to settle for a 2016 Acura TLX. While the TLX has some great safety features, I have noticed some issues with acceleration and the driver's seat feels cramped. However, I do appreciate the smart wipers and the technology package's safety features. The cup holders could be deeper, but overall the car is still a good choice for safety-conscious drivers. Although the navigation system could be improved, the touch-screen is easy to use once you get the hang of it. The mirrors could benefit from a warning about objects appearing closer than they are, but with some practice, they can be adjusted to suit the driver's needs. It's a shame that the tiny storage pockets on both sides of the center dashboard console were removed, as they were really handy for storing items like glasses and pens. I have noticed that the engine is much noisier compared to the TSX, and it can be heard from quite a distance away. During my first week of leasing the car, I drove 1,700 miles on a road trip and unfortunately had a shredded tire. Acura no longer includes a spare tire or even a donut, but instead provides an emergency repair kit with a sealant. Although I did have some trouble with the kit, I appreciate that Acura is trying to be more environmentally friendly. While the technology is impressive, I do feel that it comes at a cost to the quality, comfort, and ride performance of the car. Overall, I have mixed feelings about the TLX, but I'm grateful for the opportunity to try it out.

Although I had a decent experience with the dealership in the past, my recent attempt to purchase a car from them was not up to my expectations. Unfortunately, the car I was interested in had already been sold, and I had to negotiate for hours to find a suitable alternative. While the V6 model was a good highway cruiser, the four-cylinder model was noisy and slow. Additionally, the car's ergonomics and electronics interface were not user-friendly, and the seats were uncomfortable. Despite our initial disappointment, we were able to trade the car after 9 months and found a much better option in the loaded Ford Fusion Titanium 2.0 Turbo. This car had better acceleration, smoother transmission, better seats, much better ergonomics, much better Sony stereo, better controls and sync3 interface, and more room. It was also much more affordable than the Acura TLX. Overall, I would not recommend the Acura TLX.

As a long-time Acura owner, I loved my TL. Unfortunately, it was totaled and I had to decide between purchasing a new TLX or a Mazda 6 GT. I had heard about the 2015 transmission problem, but the dealer assured me that it had been fixed. After doing some research online, I couldn't find any reports of the same issue with the 2016 model, although some people claimed that the problem had been fixed by updating the software (I wondered if they were hired by Acura!). I test drove the car I wanted to buy for 30 minutes, stopping and going many times, and I didn't notice anything wrong (it was 65F outside). However, after driving the car for about 400 miles, it started to jerk between 0-30 miles/hr in all first 3 gears 80% of the time (when the temperature was between 32F to 50F). Now, at 700 miles, the car jerks when slowing down from 30-0 miles/hr. It's been a nightmare to drive the car. I hope Acura comes up with a real solution to this issue and fixes the problem.
