As a Sigma platform vehicle, the first generation SRX had a longitudinally mounted front engine, longitudinal transmission mounted behind the engine, and a rear drive differential. The AWD option was implemented with a transfer case mounted to the rear of the transmission, with a propeller shaft forward to a front differential to power the front wheels.
An all-leather interior and curtain side airbags were standard in both models. Heated front seats and wood interior trim were standard in the V8 and available as options in the V6. DVD, sunroof, navigation system, and a power foldable third-row seat were all available options. However the third row was no longer available for the 2010 model year on the SRX.
The base price was US$38,880 for the V6 and US$45,880 for the V8 version.
The SRX won Car and Driver's Five Best Trucks "luxury SUV" award for 2004, 2005 and 2006 and was nominated for the North American Truck of the Year award for 2004.
The first generation SRX never had the V Series performance model available.
The first generation SRX was available through the 2009 model year.

- Summary: I purchased the SRX from Massey Cadillac North of Orlando, FL in August 2023. Two weeks ago I received an audio warning and the ABS, Traction Control and Brake warning lights illuminated. The power steering was also compromised and required more effort to control the car. I took the car to Cadillac service and was told GM had discontinued the affected computer part and there was nothing they could do to alleviate the problem. They told me to be careful especially in the rain (I live in Florida where we get a lot of rain). I don’t think Cadillac should allow a vehicle with compromised safety features back on the road. I believe this condition could endanger a driver who might find themself in a situation where these safety features might prevent an accident or injury.

This, of course, is dangerous when driving on the highway or country roads as we are unable to maintain the speed required on the highway in order to safely navigate the turns in the road, which could also cause a disruption in the traffic flow, possibly causing an accident if other cars were not expecting a slower vehicle on the road. Not to mention not being able to see any wildlife in the road in enough time to react. The problem, to my knowledge, has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center prior to our purchase of the vehicle. We have discussed the issue with the dealer but the service manager is unable to comment on the matter or any type of solution. The vehicle or component has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others. There were not any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. It first appeared the first night time drive after purchasing the vehicle, used, in 2021. We had discussions with the Dealer's service department and they would not speak to any "known" issue. We performed an on-line research that showed that there was a problem with the lighting system and GM decided to not issue a recall. I believe for a short time there was compensation provided for those that complained, but that time is long gone. These cars are still on the market and without a resolution to fix this issue there can be an accident or even death in an accident.

We have had this issue for year, but managed to drive other cars at night. Now we need to drive this car at night for work. We have replaced the light bulbs. But the issue remains. GM said they sent letters to Cadillac SRX owners in California in 2020 as a result of the lawsuits. After I told the GM rep that I had never seen such letter, she said the best she could do was to take a note on my file. GM should recall the affected SRX’s and replace the headlights, as it is a safety issue.

- Summary: With GM recall N212340980, the toe link was replaced with a nonadjustable toe link and thus it can not be aligned properly causing the tire to wear incorrectly and causing vibration in the wheels and suspension and also causing the vehicle to pull to the center into oncoming traffic. This is a huge safety issue, the vibration can cause the lug nuts to loosen and wheel to come off while at highway speeds. Now I have to pay to have the toe link to be replaced with an adjustable toe link to correctly align the wheels to end the problem caused by this recall. This has been confirmed by an independent service center. This issue was discovered when the lateral arms were replaced due to the bushing becoming worn and needing replaced.

- Summary: Back in 2020 I believe there was a known headlight issue with Cadillac vehicles. Communication was sent out to owners for a headlight reimbursement program. We unfortunately didn't receive any communication regarding this. Back in March 2022 my husband had a work trip which required him to travel hours away and during the evening. This is what prompted me to call the Cadillac Customer Service number regarding the headlights, and the headlight program once I discovered it searching the internet. Spoke to someone and a ticket was issued. Missed a call, called back and was told I could only speak that same person. So I called again, received a couple of emails, and was eventually ghosted. A week or so ago I seen on the evening news that once again Cadillac had a re-call of sorts with their headlights. This was so frustrating, Once again my husband had to travel for work and the same issue arises and his safety was in jeopardy. So this past Monday called again and spoke to someone regarding his dim headlights. Received a call back today and was told the GMC dealership (the dealership we get all work done) isn't an "official" Cadillac dealership and there's isn't anything they could do. We could go to a Cadillac dealership, but there's no guarantee they would fix the issue. The dealership that we bring our vehicle to (GMC) had told my husband a few times now that it would be cheaper to purchase the new headlights online, because they would cost him over $1000 each through the dealership. This information was also relayed to the customer service rep with Cadillac customer services. The Cadillac customer service rep then turned around and offered us a $100 gift card to use towards our future dealership services. I think this is absurd given the fact this is a known issue and had been made public twice that I know of. I would like them to honor the $1600 headlight reimbersburtment that they originally offered and we never received or was notified of.

- Remedy: Owners are advised to not drive their vehicle if they experience certain Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) warnings or other issues, such as unusual steering behavior, while driving. - Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2010-2015 Cadillac SRX vehicles manufactured April 14, 2009, to September 1, 2014, and 2011-2012 Saab 9-4X vehicles manufactured February 1, 2011, to September 13, 2011. On the affected vehicles, the jam nut in the rear suspension toe adjuster link may not be torqued to the proper specification. A loose toe adjuster link can cause the vehicle to sway or wander at highway speeds. A loose toe adjuster link may lead to thread damage and eventual failure. Failure of the toe adjuster link will cause an abrupt change in the vehicle's alignment.
- Consequence: Failure of the toe adjuster link could cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the torque of the left and right rear toe link adjuster lock nuts, and replace the parts if there is evidence of damage or a loose link, free of charge. I have always loved the SRX. When I finally decided to get one, my target year was 2013 or 2014. In my opinion, it is the nicest looking SUV on the road. It is extremely comfortable to ride in and drive. With its sharp lines, it is just an awesome looking SUV and a definite head turner.

I've been a proud owner of a 2006 STS since it was brand new and I absolutely love my baby. However, when my wife and I moved to Upstate N.Y., we had to trade in her fully loaded 2005 STS because both cars were rear wheel drive and we couldn't get up our driveway. We ended up buying an '11 Equinox which was great in the snow. Later, we traded in the Equinox for a '15 model which we leased and loved! Unfortunately, the lease ended and we saw a beautiful black 2013 SRX 4 on the lot with only 22,000 miles. We bought it in August and were excited to try it out in the snow. However, during the first snowfall, our SRX 4 which came from Florida was all over the Thruway and it was a scary experience. Although I hate to admit it, the SRX 4 is not made for snow and I was very dissatisfied. The boating feeling was very uneasy. Despite this, I'll give the SRX 4 one more chance and will keep you posted.

Although there have been some minor issues with my SRX, overall it has proven to be a reliable vehicle. The safety features are impressive, with the seat shaker and cross traffic alert being particularly useful. The 307 HP engine provides plenty of power, although it does come at the cost of poor gas mileage. While the interior has not held up as well as I would have liked, the drivetrain has been dependable. I have confidence in the vehicle's performance and feel secure on the road.

There's a lot to love about the SRX! The styling is distinctive and there's plenty of interior room. It also has a spacious cargo area and a comfortable ride. The voice-activated navigation system is easy to use, making it a breeze to get where you need to go. However, there have been some issues with mechanical and electronic reliability. The nav screen had to be replaced after the system died, and both front seat heaters stopped working. The fuel pump also failed, leaving my wife stranded. Additionally, the transmission started to shift very abruptly, a whining noise developed in the rear differential, and the check engine light illuminated on a few occasions for no apparent reason. Fortunately, all of these expensive repairs were covered by the CPO warranty. The low beam headlights, however, have been a persistent issue. They are incredibly dim, barely brighter than the daytime running lights, and their brightness has continued to deteriorate as the vehicle ages. After years of denying that a low beam problem existed, GM has finally (in 2020) owned up to the issue and is willing to replace the headlights (at a cost of over $1600), which the vehicle owner must pay up front and then request reimbursement from GM. Unfortunately, this experience has led me to decide that this will be my last Cadillac.

I really love my car, but unfortunately, I live in Michigan and the front wheel drive that I purchased is not suitable for the snowy conditions. Despite my request for an all-wheel drive, the salesman assured me that the front-wheel drive would suffice. However, I have found that the SRX struggles to turn in the snow and often gets stuck with the wheels spinning. As a result, I have developed a fear of driving it. I reached out to Crestview Cadillac in Rochester Hills, MI for help, but unfortunately, they were not very helpful. However, after reading some forums and receiving suggestions from other members, I decided to invest in snow tires, which has made a tremendous difference in my driving experience. I am grateful to those who offered their advice, as it certainly wasn't Cadillac or the dealership.
