2005 Cadillac Srx problems
The Cadillac SRX is a mid-size luxury SUV and compact luxury crossover SUV (CUV) manufactured and marketed by Cadillac over two generations: the first generation as a five-door, three-row, seven-passenger CUV (2003–2009), and the second generation as a five-door, two-row, five-passenger CUV (2010–2016) – the latter becoming Cadillac's best selling model in the United States.
First generation (2004)
Engine options included the 255 hp (190 kW) High-Feature V6 and the 4.6 L 320 hp (239 kW) Northstar V8. It was based on the GM Sigma platform and came with a five or six-speed automatic transmission; rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive and MagneRide were available. As a Sigma platform vehicle, the first generation SRX had a longitudinally mounted front engine, longitudinal transmission mounted behind the engine, and a rear drive differential. The AWD option was implemented with a transfer case mounted to the rear of the transmission, with a propeller shaft forward to a front differential to power the front wheels.
An all-leather interior and curtain side airbags were standard in both models. Heated front seats and wood interior trim were standard in the V8 and available as options in the V6. DVD, sunroof, navigation system, and a power foldable third-row seat were all available options. However the third row was no longer available for the 2010 model year on the SRX.
The base price was US$38,880 for the V6 and US$45,880 for the V8 version.
The SRX won Car and Driver's Five Best Trucks "luxury SUV" award for 2004, 2005 and 2006 and was nominated for the North American Truck of the Year award for 2004.
The first generation SRX never had the V Series performance model available.
The first generation SRX was available through the 2009 model year.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety found the 2005-08 SRX worst in its class for driver fatalities with a death rate of 63 compared to its class average of 23.

Common 2005 Cadillac Srx problems
Based on complaints from owners of the 2005 Cadillac SRX, several common problems have been reported:
- Failure of Front Turn Signal and DRL Bulbs:
- Owners have experienced issues with the front turn signal and daytime running light (DRL) bulbs failing. This can lead to reduced visibility on the road, posing a safety concern for the driver and other vehicles. Replacing these bulbs can be a relatively simple fix, but frequent failures may indicate an underlying electrical issue that should be addressed by a professional technician.
- Busted ECM (Engine Control Module):
- Some owners have encountered problems with the ECM, leading to issues with starting the engine, a stuck key, and the Anti-Theft light being illuminated. A malfunctioning ECM can disrupt the vehicle's performance and overall functionality. Repairing or replacing the ECM is crucial to ensure the proper operation of the vehicle. Seeking professional assistance to diagnose and address ECM issues is recommended to prevent further complications.
- Loose Toe Link:
- Cadillac issued a recall for SRX models produced between 2010 and 2016 due to a loose toe link. A loose toe link can affect the vehicle's stability, particularly at higher speeds, increasing the risk of a potential accident. Owners experiencing handling issues or unusual vibrations should have their vehicle inspected by a qualified mechanic to address this safety concern promptly.
- Sunroof Malfunction:
- Some owners have reported problems with the sunroof not functioning correctly. Issues with the sunroof can range from being stuck open or closed to not operating at all. Sunroof malfunctions can be caused by electrical issues, motor failures, or mechanical obstructions. Addressing sunroof problems promptly is essential to prevent water leaks, interior damage, and potential safety hazards while driving.
- Expensive Maintenance Costs:
- Several owners have highlighted the high maintenance costs associated with the 2005 Cadillac SRX. Repairs and replacements for components like the high-pressure fuel pump, steering wheel position sensor, and other common issues can be costly. Owners should be prepared for potentially expensive maintenance and repair bills when owning this vehicle to ensure its longevity and optimal performance.
These common problems reported by owners of the 2005 Cadillac SRX highlight the importance of regular maintenance, prompt repairs, and professional inspections to address issues promptly and maintain the vehicle's reliability and safety on the road.

ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC) PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2017-11-29
- VIN: 1GYEE637850
- Components: ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC)
- Summary: STABILITY CONTROL SYSTEM ENGAGES DURING NORMAL DRIVING AND DRY, LEVEL, LOW-SPEED CONDITIONS SUCH AS PULLING ONTO HIGHWAY FROM A STOP. THIS HAS OCCURRED THREE TIMES, IN EACH INSTANCE STARTING FROM A DEAD STOP TO MAKE A TURN. WHEN THE SYSTEM ENGAGES THE DRIVER HAS LITERALLY NO CONTROL OVER THE VEHICLE - BRAKES ENGAGE ABS WITHOUT DRIVER INPUT, ENGINE POWER IS SUDDENLY REDUCED, AND VEHICLE IS BROUGHT TO AN IMMEDIATE CRAWL AND THEN STOP, UNTIL IT DISENGAGES. THUS FAR I'VE BEEN FORTUNATE ENOUGH THAT THIS HAS NOT OCCURRED WHERE ANY ONCOMING TRAFFIC HAS POSED A THREAT OF COLLISION, BUT THE POTENTIAL FOR A MAJOR ACCIDENT IS OBVIOUS. RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE ONLINE INDICATES THAT IT IS NOT AN UNCOMMON EXPERIENCE WITH THIS VEHICLE, AND REPORTED DEALER RESPONSES ARE NOT ENCOURAGING. AN ELECTRONIC SAFETY SYSTEM SHOULD BY DEFINITION NOT BE A LETHAL THREAT; THERE APPEARS TO BE NO PROTECTION AGAINST A HARDWARE/FIRMWARE FAILURE MODE CAUSING UNWARRANTED AND WHOLLY UNPREDICTABLE DEPLOYMENT OF THE SYSTEM WITH VERY HIGH RISK OF CAUSING COMPLETE LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. HOW IS IT POSSIBLE THAT I READ DOZENS AND DOZENS OF REPORTS OF THIS ISSUE WITHOUT THERE HAVING BEEN A RECALL? I GRANT THAT MY VEHICLE HAS 185K MILES...BUT COMPETENT ENGINEERS KNOW HOW TO DESIGN S/W THAT WOULD DISABLE THE STABILITY CONTROL IF ANY FAULT IS DETECTED, IE STEERING POSITION SENSOR, YAW SENSOR, ECM. IT'S STAGGERING TO IMAGINE THAT A FEW LINES OF CODE COULDN'T BE ADDED DOING JUST THAT, INSTEAD OF ALLOWING THE SYSTEM TO DEPLOY AT WILL WHEN NO VALID CONDITIONS EXIST. I CAN TELL YOU THAT IT'S A DESPERATELY DANGEROUS SITUATION TO SUDDENLY FIND YOURSELF FACING, AND THEN READ REPORT AFTER REPORT OF DEALER SERVICE BLINDLY REPLACING SENSORS AND MODULES AT VERY HIGH COST TO THE VEHICLE OWNER WITHOUT RESOLVING THE PROBLEM BECAUSE 'WE DON'T REALLY KNOW WHAT CAUSES IT'.
STEERING,SUSPENSION,WHEELS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2017-10-31
- Components: STEERING,SUSPENSION,WHEELS

2005 Cadillac Srx recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 3 recalls for different components of the 2005 Cadillac Srx.
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION
- Summary: This defect can affect the safe operation of the airbag system. Until this recall is performed, customers should remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the ignition key. The key fob (if applicable), should also be removed from the key ring. General Motors LLC (GM) notified the agency on July 2, 2014 that they are recalling 554,328 model year 2003-2014 Cadillac CTS vehicles manufactured August 16, 2001, to April 28, 2014, and 2004-2006 Cadillac SRX vehicles manufactured March 20, 2003, to August 11, 2006. In these models, the weight on the key ring and/or road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position, turning off the engine.
- Consequence: If the key is not in the run position, the air bags may not deploy if the vehicle is involved in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will install two key rings and an insert in the key slot or a cover over the key head on all ignition keys, free of charge. The recall began on September 15, 2014. Owners may contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006. GM's number for this recall is 14172.
- Manufacturer: GENERAL MOTORS CORP.
- Components: POWER TRAIN:AXLE ASSEMBLY:AXLE SHAFT:SEAL
- Summary: ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, THE REAR AXLE PINION SEAL DOES NOT MEET ALL OF THE SPECIFICATIONS AND MAY EXPERIENCE A FLUID LEAK.
- Consequence: A REAR DIFFERENTIAL FAILURE MAY CAUSE LOSS OF MOTIVE POWER AND POSSIBLY LOSS OF CONTROL INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE PINION SEAL FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON FEBRUARY 1, 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT CADILLAC AT 1-800-458-8006 OR HTTP://WWW.CADILLAC.COM; PONTIAC AT 1-800-620-7668 OR HTTP://WWW.PONTIAC.COM; AND SATURN AT 1-800-972-8876 OR HTTP://WWW.SATURN.COM.
- Manufacturer: GENERAL MOTORS CORP.
- Components: SUSPENSION:REAR
- Summary: CERTAIN VEHICLES HAVE A LEFT OR RIGHT REAR SUSPENSION TOE LINK THAT COULD SEPARATE BECAUSE OF AN INCORRECT WELD.
- Consequence: IF THIS WERE TO OCCUR, THE AFFECTED REAR WHEEL WOULD BE ABLE TO TURN IN OR OUT, AFFECTING VEHICLE CONTROL, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE RIGHT AND LEFT TOE LINK AND REPLACE AS REQUIRED. IF A TOE LINK IS REPLACED, THE DEALER WILL PERFORM A WHEEL ALIGNMENT. THE RECALL BEGAN ON MAY 3, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT CADILLAC AT 1-866-982-2339.

I understand that maintaining a luxury car can be frustrating at times, but it's important to keep up with certain things that may not be necessary for a Honda. Personally, I make sure to have my oil checked after every 100+ mile trip and topped off, and I get my oil changed every 3,000 miles. Despite the high maintenance, I find my car to be reliable with amazing handling. While the gas mileage could be better, I have no complaints. It's important to commit to regular maintenance to keep a high maintenance vehicle like this running smoothly. If you're not able to do so, then perhaps a luxury car isn't the right choice for you.

Buying parts isn't that expensive if you know where to look. We haven't done much to our 14-year-old SUV with only 121,000 miles, but there are a few things that need to be addressed. Depending on what you want out of it, it has the potential to be a sleeper street car with its 320 horsepower. For only $2,999, you can buy a new hot rod turn-key crate motor, which is a great deal compared to other GM crates. You can also add cheap high-performance parts on top of that. Alternatively, you can use it as a grocery getter or for a simple commute, but it has lots of potential. Before you go to GM and get it worked on, look on the web for your part. It isn't any more expensive than Jim Bob's old junker 1970s C10 pick up. It's a cheaper, better luxury car in its class compared to the rest.

We've had our 6-cylinder AWD SRX for 15 months now and we absolutely love it! The look and design are real head-turners, and the ride and performance are awesome. Although we had to fix some minor glitches in the first year (software recalls), the vehicle has been wonderful and the fit and finish are excellent. The best features are the superior ride, tight handling, and great ultraview sunroof. Basically, it's my wife's car, but I love getting to drive it on the weekends.
-
What a great vehicle! It's fast, stylish, and comfortable. It handles like no other vehicle and has great gas mileage for an SUV. Although it doesn't have a 3rd seat, it's still a great choice. The only downside is that there's not much leg room.
-
Great all around vehicle! It performs superbly in the wet conditions of the Pacific NW. The all wheel drive effectively utilizes the 320 HP, making it a joy to handle and stop. The utility and use of space is fantastic, and the excellent visibility out for rear seat passengers, including third row kids seat, makes the vehicle seem even more roomy.

The repairs on this car are phenomenal! Although, I must admit, I have never spent so much money in such a short amount of time. I have owned cars for over 40 years now.

You have put more money into this vehicle than any other vehicle you have ever owned! It's frustrating to deal with constant and costly repairs, especially when you mainly use it for your daily commute. It's understandable that you wouldn't want to purchase a Cadillac again. Thank you for sharing your experience.

After reading all the other reviews, I understand that there have been issues with these cars. Recently, while driving my car, the check engine light came on and the car started jerking. I took it to the shop and found out that it was over 5 quarts low on oil. I was surprised to learn that there was no light to indicate low oil level in a Cadillac. It would be great if something could be done to address this issue. If only I had known about this before purchasing the car, I would have reconsidered. I cannot recommend this car to anyone.

The SRX has some great features, but I have noticed a few things that could be improved. The handling feels a bit off with no magnetic ride control and standard tires, which can cause some steering correction on uneven pavement. Additionally, the steering wheel may be too far away for taller drivers. There are also some squeaks and rattles that can be bothersome. When accelerating normally, the car falls flat at 40 mph when it shifts into 4th gear, which can be a bit of a nuisance. Lastly, the engine sounds more like an appliance than a car. Overall, there are some areas for improvement, but the SRX still has a lot to offer.

My '05 Cadillac SRX makes terrible noises that dealerships can't locate. The noises sound like grinding metal.
