2000 Volvo S60 problems
The Volvo S60 is a compact executive car manufactured and marketed by Volvo since 2000.
The first generation (2000–2009) was launched in autumn of 2000 in order to replace the S70 and was based on the P2 platform. It had a similar designed estate version called Volvo V70 and a high performance engine and sports-oriented suspension version called S60 R. Styling cues were taken from the ECC concept car and the S80.
The second generation (2010–2018) was released in 2010 for the 2011 model year and has its own estate version, known as the Volvo V60.
The third generation joined the Volvo line-up in 2018 for the 2019 model year. It is built on a shortened version of the Scalable Product Architecture platform, in America's first Volvo factory in Ridgeville, South Carolina. The US became the sole global source of the S60 sedan after production in China was phased out in early 2019.

Common 2000 Volvo S60 problems
The Volvo S60 2000 is known for several common problems that have been reported by owners over the years. These issues mainly affect the engine, transmission, and some of the car's features.
- Acceleration Hesitation: The car may hesitate when accelerating, accompanied by idle engine issues and an illuminated check engine light.
- Knocking Sound: A knocking sound coming from the front of the car when driving is caused by worn-out front control arm bushings.
- Loud Clicking: A loud clicking noise when the engine is running, accompanied by grinding or buzzing noises and excessive smoke from the exhaust, indicates that the starter motor is either worn out or almost dead.
- Poor Performance: Performance problems with the S60 can be caused by a blocked ETM (Electronic Throttle Module) due to carbon build-up, or a build-up on the MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor.
- Central Locking and Cruise Control Problems: Owners have reported issues with the central locking and cruise control systems, which are about the only problems (other than front tyre wear) that have been reported for the S60.
- Fuel Leaks: Fuel leaks in the S60 are often caused by high-pressure fuel lines not being installed correctly, which can lead to a fire risk if not addressed quickly.
- Engine Seizure: An incorrectly installed radiator hose can cause a loss of coolant, leading to engine overheating and seizure.
- Unusual Smell Inside Car (2.0 ltr Engines): An unusual smell inside the car, accompanied by an engine warning light and hesitation when accelerating, affects around 70,000 Volvos in the UK and poses a significant risk of a petrol fire.
These common problems with the Volvo S60 2000 can affect the car's performance, safety, and overall reliability. It is essential for owners to be aware of these issues and address them promptly to ensure the vehicle remains in good working condition.

STEERING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2005-03-29
- VIN: YV1TS90D1Y1
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: I HAVE EXPERIENCED TWO INSTANCES OF POWER AND STEERING LOSS WHILE DRIVING MY VOLVO S80 DOWN THE ROAD. THE FIRST INSTANCE OCCURRED AS I WAS SLOWING DOWN TO TURN RIGHT, I LOST ALL POWER AND STEERING. FORTUNATELY DURING THIS INCIDENT I HAD TURNED THE CAR JUST ENOUGH PRIOR TO LOSING STEERING TO MISS A POLE. IF THERE HAD BEEN ANOTHER CAR COMING TOWARDS ME, IT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. THE SECOND INCIDENT OCCURRED A COUPLE OF WEEKS AFTER THE FIRST INCIDENT AND IT HAPPENED AS I WAS GOING DOWN THE EXPRESSWAY AND BEGAN SLOWING TO STOP AT A STOP LIGHT. THE CAR LOST POWER/ STEERING AGAIN AND LUCKILY THIS TIME THERE WAS NO A CAR IN FRONT OF ME OR I WOULD HAVE HIT IT FROM BEHIND. BOTH TIMES THIS HAPPENED, I WAS ABLE TO ROLL THE CAR TO A STOP AND RESTART IT WITH NO PROBLEMS. I REPORTED THIS PROBLEM TO THE DEALER BUT THEY WERE NOT SURE WHAT WAS CAUSING THIS. *NM
