As a Sigma platform vehicle, the first generation SRX had a longitudinally mounted front engine, longitudinal transmission mounted behind the engine, and a rear drive differential. The AWD option was implemented with a transfer case mounted to the rear of the transmission, with a propeller shaft forward to a front differential to power the front wheels.
An all-leather interior and curtain side airbags were standard in both models. Heated front seats and wood interior trim were standard in the V8 and available as options in the V6. DVD, sunroof, navigation system, and a power foldable third-row seat were all available options. However the third row was no longer available for the 2010 model year on the SRX.
The base price was US$38,880 for the V6 and US$45,880 for the V8 version.
The SRX won Car and Driver's Five Best Trucks "luxury SUV" award for 2004, 2005 and 2006 and was nominated for the North American Truck of the Year award for 2004.
The first generation SRX never had the V Series performance model available.

I TRIED TO START IT & IT WOULD START BUT WOULDN'T TURN OVER. WHEN I LET GO OF THE KEY IT STAYED ON & KEPT TRYING TO START ON ITS OWN, LIKE I HAD THE KEY TURNED. IT DID SHUT OFF FINALLY WHEN I TURNED IT OFF. AFTER THE MECHANIC AT CABLES FIXED THE TIMING THE FIRST TIME, I WAS INFORMED IF I DIDN'T REPLACE THE VARIABLE VALVE TIMING SOLENOID, HE COULD NOT GUARANTEE THE TIMING AGAIN SO I PAID TO HAVE THAT DONE AS WELL. THIS ALL STARTED 7-24-14 & HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP OFF & ON SINCE THEN. I RECENTLY LOST MY YOUNGEST DAUGHTER & AM DISABLED SO MY TRANSPORTATION IS EVERYTHING TO ME & I CAN'T KEEP PAYING FOR THIS TIMING SINCE I AM NOW PAYING FOR FUNERAL EXPENSES ALONG WITH MANY OTHER RELATED EXPENSES. PLS PLS HELP.

NOTHING BUT CONSTANT REPAIR BILLS WITH THIS CROSSOVER. I FEEL IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS IT COULD BREAK AT ANY TIME FROM BEING LOOSE. I FEEL THIS SHOULD BE RECALLED AND REPLACED.

You made a great choice with your new '07 SRX! It's such a nice ride. I love that you ordered the 5.1 surround sound and DVD player. The ride is so smooth and quiet, and it has plenty of power. I've noticed that the 6-speed automatic transmission is even better on gas than my '06 XLR with the same 320 horses and five-speed automatic.

Large crossover. Handles and drives like a car, not a truck. Magnaride suspension really helps with that and is well worth the $1650. 3rd seat is mostly for kids but for the rare occasions I need it, it is perfect. It stores in the floor at the push of a button.

I love our new AWD V6 SRX. It has the Luxury/Premium seat packages, power pedals, and is Silver with an Ebony interior. It drives great and handles excellently when tossed through the corners. Having driven it near it's limits at a C&D ride and drive last year left the feeling that it could be our new vehicle when our Envoy went back. Who can beat the deal, with the great finance rates and rebates I got this one for $500 under invoice with just a phone call. The fact that I bought from the biggest Cadillac dealer in the country might have had something to do with it. I too am hitting mid-15 mpg area in the city, but on the highway straight cruising at 75 mph I was seeing 25-27 mpg, which is not bad for an AWD, 4,300+ lb. vehicle. The hidden compartment above the glove box is terrific.

The V8 engine performs well on flat straight roads, but for the mountain driving I do, the 6-speed is geared too high and continuously loses power and shifts, even in the S mode. During a 25-mile stretch of mountain driving, the engine shifted 40 times in regular drive and 33 times in the S mode. I was very disappointed in the car's performance. The backup warning system is also not very helpful, as it only provides an audio warning when you are within 12 to 18 inches of an object and only if your reverse speed is 3 to 5 mph. Otherwise, you are required to look out the back window for lights to determine if there is something behind you.

The steering wheel cannot be adjusted towards the driver, which may cause discomfort for taller drivers. The seating is more reminiscent of a sports car than an SUV, which may result in high leg positioning. Unfortunately, the front passenger leg room is quite limited due to the narrowing on the left. The navigation system could use some improvement, as the touch screen is not very responsive and the route (pink) is difficult to distinguish from other roads (red). Additionally, the search function can be frustrating due to unnecessary pop-ups and a narrow search area. The third row seating is best suited for small children, and the mid seat in the second row may cause taller passengers to bump their head against the switches. The resale value may not be ideal.
