Buick Park avenue problems

The Buick Park Avenue is a full-size car built by Buick. The nameplate was first used in 1975 for an appearance option package on the Electra 225 Limited. It became an Electra trim level in 1978 and its own model starting in the 1991 model year after the Electra was discontinued.
There were two generations of the Park Avenue that were manufactured in the United States until 2005. In 2007, the nameplate was revived on a large Buick sedan built by Shanghai GM for the Chinese market based on the Holden Caprice from the WM/WN range. The nameplate is derived from the affluent New York City boulevard, Park Avenue.
Electra Park Avenue (1975–1990)
1975-1976
Park Avenue first appeared as an appearance package on the 1975 Buick Electra Limited. It included similar seats to the Cadillac Sixty Special, optional full center console, Buick 455ci V8, posi-traction, 15-inch rallye sport wheels, rear automatic leveling, optional leather, optional Air Cushion Restraint System, remote mirror with thermometer, and automatic climate control. The 1976 cars were largely the same except for some styling revisions and added emissions systems.
1977-1984
Park Avenue, previously an appearance option package, became an official trim level on the Electra in 1978. Cosmetically, a different grille and redesigned tail lights were the only notable cosmetic changes that year but 1979 brought a redesigned, flat front end and a subtly different taillight treatment featuring a Buick crest and bisecting horizontal silver line. A more extensive redesign occurred for the 1980 model year.
1985-1990
Park Avenue remained the top trim on the Buick Electra, it was redesigned along with the rest of the Electra line, moving to the heavily downsized front wheel drive GM C-Body. It featured a Buick 3800 V6. The coupe version was discontinued in 1987. For 1989, Buick introduced the Park Avenue Ultra trim level. The Ultra was an upgrade to the Electra Park Avenue trim and featured a standard leather interior with dual 20-way power front seats designed and manufactured by Lear Siegler and styled by Giorgetto Giugiaro of Italdesign; lower-body accent exterior paint treatment; distinctive thick-padded french-seamed vinyl top with limousine-style rear-window surround (available only on Ultra); simulated burled elm trim on the doors and instrument panel; unique aluminum wheels; anti-lock brakes; chromed B-pillar moldings; specific grille and tail lamps; leather-wrapped steering wheel; electronic instrumentation; padded glove-compartment door and unique interior door panel trim. The Park Avenue Ultra carried a higher base price than Cadillac's Sedan de Ville. The Park Avenue Ultra did not gain much popular recognition, however, until the following generation of Park Avenue where the "Ultra" badge offered even more features.

Great car! I'm glad to hear that you've never had any issues with it. It's impressive how quick and sporty it is for its size.

I see that you have owned quite a few cars, including a Sedan de Ville, Mercedes S430, BMW 740iL, and Saab 9000 Aero. Having lived in Germany for 9 years, you must have had quite the need for speed. At 55 years old, it seems like you have slowed down a bit. When you bought the Park Avenue from the second owner, it had 53K miles and was in great condition. On your way home, you encountered a Stability System fault code, which made you worry about your purchase. However, after replacing the tires with four new Pirelli P7's, the fault code cleared and the ride quality improved significantly. The new P7's have transformed the ride character of the Buick. You mentioned that you have seen over 33 MPG on the highway while cruising at 77 MPH with the AC on, which is quite impressive. I would recommend replacing the tensioner pulley coolant elbow with metal ones to avoid any issues. It's great that you plan on replacing the water pump, tensioner assembly, heater hoses, and radiator hoses before giving it to your Dad. After changing the oil with Penzoil synthetic, transmission flush, K&N filter, and replacing the cabin air filters, the Park Avenue now drives like a Cadillac. It's amazing how GM can make cars like this. If you're looking for another car, I would suggest a low mileage Ultra with the supercharger. Thank you for sharing your experience with the Park Avenue!

This car may be the last one I buy for a while, but I have to admit that it's in a class of its own. When I'm behind the wheel, I feel like I'm driving a car from the 50s - the craftsmanship, style, and handling are all top-notch. Buick has always offered these qualities in their cars, and my Park Avenue is no exception. It's reliable, dependable, and still going strong at 110,000 miles. I have to give credit to the designers of this car - they truly made one hell of a good vehicle.

I completely agree with the first reviewer. This car reminds me of the Chrysler 300J I once drove. It has a smooth power and style that is beyond belief. The car is incredibly reliable and silk smooth. I have only had to replace the weatherstripping after 10 years. The only downside to the car is the front license plate holder, which has a very poor design. The car is very quiet and the Ultra has a power steering that requires more force to turn at speed, which I do not like. Overall, this car is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a reliable and stylish vehicle.

Hi there! I just wanted to share my experience with my beloved car. I bought it for a great price of $10,500 when it was already 4 years old and had 71,000 miles on it. It was in great shape and I immediately became a huge fan of Buick! I've had it for 7 years now and, although I've had a few minor issues, they were never too costly. I'm actually thinking of getting another Park Avenue soon!

Firstly, if you're searching for a stylish and sporty car, this may not be the best option for you. However, if you're looking for an affordable car to drive primarily on weekends, run errands, and take your furry friend along, then this car is definitely worth considering. I purchased mine for $4400, including tax, with 104K miles on it. The previous owner was an older gentleman, so the car was in great condition. It has decent fuel efficiency (low 20s), incredibly comfortable seats and ride, a smooth and powerful engine, and power features galore. It has been very reliable and all for a very reasonable price.

I recently purchased this car from a friend who took great care of it. It looks brand new both inside and out. Unfortunately, within two months of owning it, I experienced a few issues. The door lock button popped inside the door, the transmission failed and cost $1975 to rebuild, the ash tray broke and won't stay closed, and the volume button on the steering wheel only functions some of the time. Additionally, the self-leveling feature has failed and I am concerned about the cost to fix it. Overall, this car has the potential to be wonderful if it was better built. As someone who has owned many GM cars over the years (including my beloved 84 El Camino), I am disappointed that this will be my last one.

We're glad to say that we've enjoyed this car for 7 years now and it's still going strong. We've had to replace 2 of the 3 spark modules (which replaced distributors in the mid 90's), a timing belt (but thankfully no engine damage), and a plastic cooling system part that developed a leak. However, we haven't had to do any major engine work. There have been a few minor annoyances, such as rust at the bottom of the doors, a gas gauge that kept falling past the stop peg and finally broke, a sticky ashtray that broke in the open position, and power door locks on the driver's side that broke. On the plus side, the car has lots of power for a big car with a V-6, and 4 adults can ride comfortably. Although I'm a very large man and it's tight to sit 3 in the front, it can be done. The flow-through door from the trunk has been handy, although I don't ski.

I experienced significant road vibration in the front wheels of my new vehicle from the very beginning, despite the dealer's attempts to correct the issue with various measures approved by GM, including new lower control arms, new suspension, road force balancing, new wheels, and new tires. Despite multiple visits to the dealer, the issue persisted and I was left with no choice but to request that Buick repurchase the vehicle. As a long-time Buick Park Ave owner, this experience has unfortunately led me to conclude that the Ultra will be my last.

I really enjoyed this car for the first few months. It was well-built, comfortable, and smooth on the highway. Unfortunately, there was one major flaw that made me change my mind and give it away (I couldn't sell it due to liability concerns). It would just die on the freeway at full speed! Once, I was coming down the Grapevine into LA when this happened. It was really scary to be driving at full highway speed with no power brakes, no power steering, nothing. To make matters worse, the dealer couldn't figure out what was wrong with it, and the process of figuring it out was terribly expensive. As I mentioned, I had to get rid of it because driving it was just too dangerous!
