The Buick Park Avenue is a full-size car built by Buick. The nameplate was first used in 1975 for an appearance option package on the Electra 225 Limited. It became an Electra trim level in 1978 and its own model starting in the 1991 model year after the Electra was discontinued.
There were two generations of the Park Avenue that were manufactured in the United States until 2005. In 2007, the nameplate was revived on a large Buick sedan built by Shanghai GM for the Chinese market based on the Holden Caprice from the WM/WN range. The nameplate is derived from the affluent New York City boulevard, Park Avenue.
Electra Park Avenue (1975–1990)
1975-1976
Park Avenue first appeared as an appearance package on the 1975 Buick Electra Limited. It included similar seats to the Cadillac Sixty Special, optional full center console, Buick 455ci V8, posi-traction, 15-inch rallye sport wheels, rear automatic leveling, optional leather, optional Air Cushion Restraint System, remote mirror with thermometer, and automatic climate control. The 1976 cars were largely the same except for some styling revisions and added emissions systems.
1977-1984
Park Avenue, previously an appearance option package, became an official trim level on the Electra in 1978. Cosmetically, a different grille and redesigned tail lights were the only notable cosmetic changes that year but 1979 brought a redesigned, flat front end and a subtly different taillight treatment featuring a Buick crest and bisecting horizontal silver line. A more extensive redesign occurred for the 1980 model year.
1985-1990
Park Avenue remained the top trim on the Buick Electra, it was redesigned along with the rest of the Electra line, moving to the heavily downsized front wheel drive GM C-Body. It featured a Buick 3800 V6. The coupe version was discontinued in 1987. For 1989, Buick introduced the Park Avenue Ultra trim level. The Ultra was an upgrade to the Electra Park Avenue trim and featured a standard leather interior with dual 20-way power front seats designed and manufactured by Lear Siegler and styled by Giorgetto Giugiaro of Italdesign; lower-body accent exterior paint treatment; distinctive thick-padded french-seamed vinyl top with limousine-style rear-window surround (available only on Ultra); simulated burled elm trim on the doors and instrument panel; unique aluminum wheels; anti-lock brakes; chromed B-pillar moldings; specific grille and tail lamps; leather-wrapped steering wheel; electronic instrumentation; padded glove-compartment door and unique interior door panel trim. The Park Avenue Ultra carried a higher base price than Cadillac's Sedan de Ville. The Park Avenue Ultra did not gain much popular recognition, however, until the following generation of Park Avenue where the "Ultra" badge offered even more features.

After deciding to buy a US-made car that is roomy and gets good gas mileage, the list of options quickly narrowed down. I have had six cars with the Buick V-6 engine, which has proven to be a decent compromise. In terms of reliability, it has been generally good, especially when compared to the three S-Class Benz models I have owned.

Buick has provided us with a most comfortable ride and a fair element of prestige and operational economy. We have found that the Park Avenue has been a marvelous vehicle for traveling and for storage capacity. Although, it is important to note that the rapid depreciation may continue to plague the Park Avenue as well as most other domestic vehicles. However, our service experience with the dealership has been excellent and we will probably continue to drive Park Avenues.

There is a vibration in the front end when exceeding seventy miles per hour or more. The root cause of the issue has not yet been identified or explained by anyone.

No bumps, noise or shimmys felt. Runs like a champ when you need to pick up speed and pass. Self-adjusting seats are just what is needed as my husband and I share the car...no need to readjust mirrors on sides, it does that automatically too depending on the driver.

This is my 4th Park Ave. I absolutely love all the gadgets, they work so well! The comfort and safety features are top-notch, and the gas mileage is outstanding. I've noticed that some people tend to overrate more expensive foreign cars, but in my opinion, the Park Ave is just as good, if not better. It's no surprise that they're so popular with owners.

This is my second Park Ave Ultra, and unfortunately, it hasn't lived up to my expectations. The gas mileage is not great and the suspension could be smoother. Additionally, there are some outside sounds that can be heard while driving. The acceleration could be better and the steering could be more responsive. While it may not be my favorite car, I still appreciate my 99 Park Ave Ultra and prefer it over this one. I leased the 2005 for 3 years, but I wish I had bought it so I could have more options.

The Buick started out as a promising idea. It looked comfortable, especially for someone like me. However, it eventually became unreliable. Issues started to arise, such as the engine losing power and the valvetrain failing. Unfortunately, after only 23,347 miles, the valvetrain gave out and needed to be replaced. Ultimately, I decided to sell the car as it was no longer meeting my needs. That's the end of the story.

I have been driving this car for over a year and I have very few complaints. Despite having a two-year-old Cadillac Seville that was totaled in an accident, I find that the Buick is not as fast but it cruises just as well and gets 3 to 4 mpg better. Additionally, I have grown to like the seating, it just took some getting used to. Overall, this is a great car for long miles and highway cruising. I would definitely buy another one to replace this one.

Our car shakes at speeds over 65 mph. The dealer has changed tires, balanced them, and has us running the tires at 29lbs until the suspension supposedly loosens up. The last time we drove it, the lights in the radio were flickering like a candle was burning behind it (according to my husband). If we could get everything to work, we would love it, but as it is, we feel like we are being asked to put up with a lemon!
