2000 Buick Park avenue problems
The Buick Park Avenue is a full-size car built by Buick. The nameplate was first used in 1975 for an appearance option package on the Electra 225 Limited. It became an Electra trim level in 1978 and its own model starting in the 1991 model year after the Electra was discontinued.
There were two generations of the Park Avenue that were manufactured in the United States until 2005. In 2007, the nameplate was revived on a large Buick sedan built by Shanghai GM for the Chinese market based on the Holden Caprice from the WM/WN range. The nameplate is derived from the affluent New York City boulevard, Park Avenue.
Electra Park Avenue (1975–1990)
1975-1976
Park Avenue first appeared as an appearance package on the 1975 Buick Electra Limited. It included similar seats to the Cadillac Sixty Special, optional full center console, Buick 455ci V8, posi-traction, 15-inch rallye sport wheels, rear automatic leveling, optional leather, optional Air Cushion Restraint System, remote mirror with thermometer, and automatic climate control. The 1976 cars were largely the same except for some styling revisions and added emissions systems.
1977-1984
Park Avenue, previously an appearance option package, became an official trim level on the Electra in 1978. Cosmetically, a different grille and redesigned tail lights were the only notable cosmetic changes that year but 1979 brought a redesigned, flat front end and a subtly different taillight treatment featuring a Buick crest and bisecting horizontal silver line. A more extensive redesign occurred for the 1980 model year.
1985-1990
Park Avenue remained the top trim on the Buick Electra, it was redesigned along with the rest of the Electra line, moving to the heavily downsized front wheel drive GM C-Body. It featured a Buick 3800 V6. The coupe version was discontinued in 1987. For 1989, Buick introduced the Park Avenue Ultra trim level. The Ultra was an upgrade to the Electra Park Avenue trim and featured a standard leather interior with dual 20-way power front seats designed and manufactured by Lear Siegler and styled by Giorgetto Giugiaro of Italdesign; lower-body accent exterior paint treatment; distinctive thick-padded french-seamed vinyl top with limousine-style rear-window surround (available only on Ultra); simulated burled elm trim on the doors and instrument panel; unique aluminum wheels; anti-lock brakes; chromed B-pillar moldings; specific grille and tail lamps; leather-wrapped steering wheel; electronic instrumentation; padded glove-compartment door and unique interior door panel trim. The Park Avenue Ultra carried a higher base price than Cadillac's Sedan de Ville. The Park Avenue Ultra did not gain much popular recognition, however, until the following generation of Park Avenue where the "Ultra" badge offered even more features.

Common 2000 Buick Park avenue problems
The Buick Park Avenue 2000 is known for several common problems that car owners have reported.
- Starter issues: Some car owners have reported issues with the starter, which can make a clicking noise when the car won't start. This can be caused by a weak or bad battery, corroded or oily main contacts, or loose battery cables.
- Hydro-locking: If the car is hydro-locked, it can cause headlight dimming and sputtering. This can be caused by coolant seeping into the intake manifold through the seal around the intake manifold, particularly if the coolant is hot after the engine has been driven for a while.
- Rubber transmission cooler lines leaking fluid: This is a common issue with the Buick Park Avenue 2000, and it can cause fluid to leak from the transmission cooler lines.
- Defective gas gauges: GM vehicles, including the Buick Park Avenue 2000, are known for having defective gas gauges that can leave owners wondering how much fuel is left in their tank. The gauge can stick in place or bounce around once the tank is less than half full, which can be a significant issue for long-distance drivers.
These are just a few of the common problems that car owners have reported with the Buick Park Avenue 2000. It's important for car owners to be aware of these issues and to take steps to address them as soon as possible to avoid more significant problems down the road.

2000 Buick Park avenue recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 3 recalls for different components of the 2000 Buick Park avenue.
- Manufacturer: GENERAL MOTORS CORP.
- Components: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY
- Summary: ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 3800 V6 (L36) ENGINES AND CERTAIN DELPHI FUEL PRESSURE REGULATORS, THE REGULATORS HAVE A MUCH HIGHER THAN USUAL RATE OF FUEL LEAKS. A LEAK CAN ALLOW FUEL TO ENTER THE INTAKE MANIFOLD THROUGH A VACUUM LINE. IF THE ENGINE DOES NOT START WHEN CRANKED, THE FUEL FROM THE LEAKING REGULATOR AND A MISTIMED SPARK CAN CAUSE A BACKFIRE.
- Consequence: THE BACKFIRE CAN RUPTURE THE INTAKE MANIFOLD. THE RUPTURE OF THE INTAKE MANIFOLD CAN DISPLACE A FUEL LINE, PULLING AN INJECTOR OUT OF PLACE, AND CAUSING A FUEL LEAK AND POSSIBLE FIRE.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL NEW FUEL PRESSURE REGULATORS WITH IMPROVED DIAPHRAGMS. THE RECALL WILL BE CONDUCTED IN PHASED MAILINGS. PHASE 1 BEGAN ON JUNE 30, 2004, AND PHASE 2 BEGAN ON SEPTEMBER 30, 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT BUICK AT 1-866-608-8080, OLDSMOBILE AT 1-800-630-6537, OR PONTIAC AT 1-800-620-7668.
- Manufacturer: GENERAL MOTORS CORP.
- Components: VISIBILITY:WINDSHIELD WIPER/WASHER
- Summary: VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES. SOME OF THESE VEHICLES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH REQUIREMENTS OF FMVSS NO. 104, "WINDSHIELD WIPING AND WASHING SYSTEMS." THESE VEHICLES HAVE A WIPER SYSTEM MICROPROCESSOR THAT IS SUSCEPTIBLE TO VOLTAGE TRANSIENTS, WHICH CAN CAUSE A "LATCH-UP" CONDITION IN THE SYSTEM CONTROLLER.
- Consequence: IF MICROPROCESSOR "LATCH-UP" OCCURS, THE CUSTOMER WILL NOT BE ABLE TO OPERATE THE SYSTEM IN BOTH THE LOWER AND HIGH-SPEED MODES REQUIRED BY THE STANDARD.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR COVER WHICH CONTAINS THE MICROPROCESSOR.
- Manufacturer: GENERAL MOTORS CORP.
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION COMPONENTS
- Summary: VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES. SOME OF THESE VEHICLES HAVE INTERNAL FLUID LEAKS IN THE BRAKE HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT.
- Consequence: WHEN THE REAR BRAKE PROPORTIONING, ANTILOCK BRAKE, TRACTION CONTROL, OR STABILITY CONTROL FEATURE IS ACTIVATED IN SOME DRIVING SITUATIONS, THE FEATURE MAY NOT PERFORM AS DESIGNED.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE ABS HYDRAULIC MODULATOR UNIT AND IF NECESSARY, REPLACE THE HYDRAULIC MODULATOR.

The first time we drove the car out, even before finalizing the deal, the brake warning light came on as we drove home on a Saturday evening. We only went 2 miles from the dealer. After taking it back for repair, several weeks later another warning light came on, telling us that some other sensor was alerting us with the bells and light. We took it back to the dealer, but unfortunately, they did not have the part. However, they took one off of another new vehicle in order for us to be able to drive the Buick.

As a daily driver, this car performs very well. We have taken it on four round trips from Virginia to Texas and back over the past 8 months. During these trips, we averaged 29 MPG while driving at or above the posted speed limits. The comfort level is excellent, and it's an easy car to drive and enjoy.
-
I bought this car used with 20,000 miles on it from a rental place. It has been almost perfect. The only problem I had was an electronic door lock switch falling inside the door. However, as a rental, you can be sure it got rough use. Now, with 35k miles on it, I have never done anything but scheduled maintenance.

Superb vehicle! It's great to hear that you've driven 64,000 miles without any repairs. The original Conquest tires are still going strong with at least another 10,000 miles left. You're also getting great gas mileage with 30 mpg on the highway and 23 in the city. The only issue you've mentioned is that the brake rotors are thin. Thank you for sharing your experience with us!
-
Excellent service! The vehicle is comfortable for five passengers and has excellent gas mileage.

I recently purchased this car for my wife and it has proven to be a great choice. Despite its reputation as a more traditional vehicle, we were able to find one with low mileage and well below market value. We were primarily drawn to the car's overall value, and it has not disappointed. While it is true that these cars can depreciate quickly, we were able to take advantage of this and get a great deal.
