Common 2005 Chrysler Pacifica problems
The Chrysler Pacifica, produced from 2004 to 2008, is known for several common problems that have been reported by its owners. These issues are primarily related to the engine, transmission, and electrical system.
- Carbon Buildup in Valves: Another common problem with the Chrysler Pacifica's 3.5-liter and 4.0-liter V6 engines is carbon buildup in the valves. This issue causes the check engine light to come on, indicating that multiple cylinders are misfiring. The combustion chamber needs to be cleaned out to remove all the carbon and potentially update the valve spring retainers to keep the Pacifica minivan alive and well. This problem generally affects the Pacifica at an average of 131,000 miles, but it can happen as low as 60,000 miles.
- Static Discharge or Loose Wire Connections: Static discharge or loose wire connections can cause problems with the Chrysler Pacifica's power seat memory, seat heaters, and adjustable pedals. This issue has been reported 48 times for the 2004-2008 models, with the average mileage at the problem being 106,000 miles. The repair cost for this issue is estimated to be $350.
- Loss of Engine Power: Numerous complaints have been filed with the NHTSA regarding a loss of engine power on the 2007 Pacifica. One complaint reports that the vehicle randomly shuts off without warning and that this has happened multiple times within a span of a few months. Another complaint reports that a 2007 Pacifica has lost power without warning at various speeds. This issue is not covered under the manufacturer’s warranty, and the repair cost for this issue is not specified.
- Transmission Problems: Numerous reviews on Vehicle History support complaints about transmission problems with the Chrysler Pacifica. One reviewer reports that the engine light frequently comes on and the car shuts off while driving. Another reviewer claims that the vehicle was diagnosed with a bad transmission, but the cost to replace the transmission is more expensive than the current value of the vehicle itself.
- Rusted Engine Subframe: Multiple complaints have been filed with the NHTSA regarding the engine cradle subframe on the 2005 Chrysler Pacifica rusting. This issue can result in the car pulling dangerously to one side while driving. The repair cost for this issue is not specified.
- Water Leaks from HVAC Case: Numerous other issues have been reported for the Chrysler Pacifica, including water leaks from the HVAC case not sealing at the bulkhead. The repair cost for this issue is not specified.
- Misalignment of Drive Belt Pulley: Numerous other issues have been reported for the Chrysler Pacifica, including misalignment of the drive belt pulleys causing noise. The repair cost for this issue is not specified.
- Software Updates Needed for Powertrain Control Module: Numerous other issues have been reported for the Chrysler Pacifica, including software updates needed for the powertrain control module. The repair cost for this issue is not specified.
- Door Handle Issues: Numerous other issues have been reported for the Chrysler Pacifica, including static discharge issues in the door handles, causing a loss of function. The repair cost for this issue is not specified.
- Engine Crankshaft Position Sensor Failure: The engine crankshaft position sensor is responsible for sending signals to the engine control module (ECM) about the position and speed of the crankshaft. If this sensor fails, it can cause the engine to stall or not start at all. The repair cost for this issue is not specified.
- Power Window Regulator Failure: The power window regulator is responsible for moving the window up and down. If this component fails, the window may not move or may move very slowly. The repair cost for this issue is not specified.
These common problems with the Chrysler Pacifica can be frustrating for owners, but it's important to note that not all vehicles of this make and model will experience these issues. If you're considering purchasing a Chrysler Pacifica, it's important to do your research and be aware of these potential problems. If you already own a Chrysler Pacifica and are experiencing any of these issues, it's recommended to take your vehicle to a professional mechanic for diagnosis and repair.

It sounds like you really loved your car! Over the course of 4 years and almost 130000 miles, you had only one major issue - a motor exodus at 75000 miles. Unfortunately, Chrysler was not able to provide any assistance and quoted a replacement engine cost of around $6500. However, you were able to find a used engine from a scrap metal dealer and had a local shop install it. I'm glad to hear that you were able to get your car back up and running again!

We have had this amazing vehicle for 5 years now and our kids still love it as much as we do. It has so many great features, from the tri-zone AC to the heated front and rear seats, DVD 6 disc, sunroof, satellite radio, and leather and suede interior - it's truly first class! My wife especially loves the memory seats with adjusting brake pedals. This vehicle handles snow like a pro. We wish Chrysler still made this car because we would buy another one without hesitation!
-
This is a great vehicle! It has a very quiet ride, is very smooth, and feels very stable (5 inches off the ground). Although it does weigh in over 4700 lbs, it is a great family mover with tons of cargo space when the bench seat is down. While it gets 21mpg on the highway, I think they can do better. Highly recommend!
-
I love this car! If it wasn't 15 years old, I wouldn't retire it. I'd drive it another 373,000 miles! That's right! My car has 373,000 miles and still going!! I have had to get a good bit of auto work done over the years, but nothing major and I am grateful for my Pacifica honey!

I've been car shopping for a while now since my beloved 2003 Honda Odyssey finally gave up on me. While driving by a Used Nissan, I spotted the Pacifica and decided to test drive it. I even got my hubby and FIL to come check it out with me. The interior looked polished and the engine and transmission sounded strong. After doing some research, I found some negative reviews but also many positive and helpful ones. Upon inspecting the car, I found no rust and ran a car fax which confirmed that it was well-maintained by two previous owners. Despite needing a few minor repairs, I decided to purchase it for the great price of $1800 with only 157k miles. I've had it for almost a week now and so far, it's been great. It's important to remember that older cars won't sound or run like new, but with proper care, they can still be reliable. I'm happy with my purchase and will update on its performance. We got rid of our 2005 car due to a bad k frame and replaced it with a 2008 Pacifica which we still love. It has nice modern features for its age and the rear parking assist still works like a dream. It's a solid one-owner car with 140k miles and only needed $728 in repairs to run like new ❤️.

I really enjoyed our car when we first bought it, but unfortunately we have been experiencing some oil consumption problems that others have also mentioned. It's concerning that at only 3000 miles, the oil is completely gone. Although the dealer replaced the top half of the engine, the issue still persists. According to Chrysler, this level of oil consumption is normal, but it seems strange that they have no idea where the oil is going. I used to own a 96' Jeep Cherokee that had 380,000 miles and never burned an ounce of oil, so it's disappointing that Chrysler is not taking responsibility for this issue. Additionally, at 3,000 miles the engine starts to click. As much as I used to love Chrysler vehicles, I don't think I will be buying another one in the future.

In Spring 2005, my wife and I decided to purchase a family car. After considering various options, we settled on a red Pacifica Touring with a 3.5L engine. We have owned this vehicle since it was new and it has served us well, with only a few minor issues. These include the replacement of the tie rod end, motor mounts (twice), and a blower motor (which was covered under warranty). We also had to clean out the EGR valve at 70,000 miles, which is relatively normal for many cars. While I wasn't thrilled about having to make any repairs on a vehicle this new, the total cost of repairs over the six years of ownership has been less than $2500. I have also experienced the oil consumption issue, but using Shell Rotella-T 5W40 oil has helped to mitigate this problem (1 quart consumed per 3000 miles is acceptable to me).

It's disappointing to hear that Chrysler has not addressed a range of issues, from AC to brakes to accelerator sticking to loud clunking noises to car stalling and more. It's important for car manufacturers to prioritize the safety and satisfaction of their customers. Hopefully, Chrysler will take action to address these concerns and improve the quality of their vehicles.
Lawrence Hyatt 2025-01-13
The Pacifica we purchased in 2007 did not meet our expectations in terms of durability and maintenance. Despite regular upkeep, we have had to replace several components, including the entire brake system and now the transmission. I strongly advise against purchasing this car as it has not lived up to its promises.
