Common Chrysler Pacifica 2005 problems

The Chrysler Pacifica, produced from 2004 to 2008, is known for several common problems that have been reported by its owners. These issues are primarily related to the engine, transmission, and electrical system.

  • Carbon Buildup in Valves: Another common problem with the Chrysler Pacifica's 3.5-liter and 4.0-liter V6 engines is carbon buildup in the valves. This issue causes the check engine light to come on, indicating that multiple cylinders are misfiring. The combustion chamber needs to be cleaned out to remove all the carbon and potentially update the valve spring retainers to keep the Pacifica minivan alive and well. This problem generally affects the Pacifica at an average of 131,000 miles, but it can happen as low as 60,000 miles.
  • Static Discharge or Loose Wire Connections: Static discharge or loose wire connections can cause problems with the Chrysler Pacifica's power seat memory, seat heaters, and adjustable pedals. This issue has been reported 48 times for the 2004-2008 models, with the average mileage at the problem being 106,000 miles. The repair cost for this issue is estimated to be $350.
  • Loss of Engine Power: Numerous complaints have been filed with the NHTSA regarding a loss of engine power on the 2007 Pacifica. One complaint reports that the vehicle randomly shuts off without warning and that this has happened multiple times within a span of a few months. Another complaint reports that a 2007 Pacifica has lost power without warning at various speeds. This issue is not covered under the manufacturer’s warranty, and the repair cost for this issue is not specified.
  • Transmission Problems: Numerous reviews on Vehicle History support complaints about transmission problems with the Chrysler Pacifica. One reviewer reports that the engine light frequently comes on and the car shuts off while driving. Another reviewer claims that the vehicle was diagnosed with a bad transmission, but the cost to replace the transmission is more expensive than the current value of the vehicle itself.
  • Rusted Engine Subframe: Multiple complaints have been filed with the NHTSA regarding the engine cradle subframe on the 2005 Chrysler Pacifica rusting. This issue can result in the car pulling dangerously to one side while driving. The repair cost for this issue is not specified.
  • Water Leaks from HVAC Case: Numerous other issues have been reported for the Chrysler Pacifica, including water leaks from the HVAC case not sealing at the bulkhead. The repair cost for this issue is not specified.
  • Misalignment of Drive Belt Pulley: Numerous other issues have been reported for the Chrysler Pacifica, including misalignment of the drive belt pulleys causing noise. The repair cost for this issue is not specified.
  • Software Updates Needed for Powertrain Control Module: Numerous other issues have been reported for the Chrysler Pacifica, including software updates needed for the powertrain control module. The repair cost for this issue is not specified.
  • Door Handle Issues: Numerous other issues have been reported for the Chrysler Pacifica, including static discharge issues in the door handles, causing a loss of function. The repair cost for this issue is not specified.
  • Engine Crankshaft Position Sensor Failure: The engine crankshaft position sensor is responsible for sending signals to the engine control module (ECM) about the position and speed of the crankshaft. If this sensor fails, it can cause the engine to stall or not start at all. The repair cost for this issue is not specified.
  • Power Window Regulator Failure: The power window regulator is responsible for moving the window up and down. If this component fails, the window may not move or may move very slowly. The repair cost for this issue is not specified.

These common problems with the Chrysler Pacifica can be frustrating for owners, but it's important to note that not all vehicles of this make and model will experience these issues. If you're considering purchasing a Chrysler Pacifica, it's important to do your research and be aware of these potential problems. If you already own a Chrysler Pacifica and are experiencing any of these issues, it's recommended to take your vehicle to a professional mechanic for diagnosis and repair.

Negative Chrysler Pacifica 2005 car reviews

  1. Melvina Rogahn 2024-10-27

Hi there! I've been driving my car for around 2 months now and while it's comfortable to ride in, I've had a few annoying problems with some of the dashboard display mechanisms. Unfortunately, I've already had to have two components replaced and there was also a recall. On the bright side, the car does very well in the snow, which is why I purchased this SUV in the first place. It's also great for kids and pets, so that's a plus!

  2. Wiley Rau 2024-08-24

I purchased a 2005 Chrysler Pacifica and unfortunately, I've had a lot of issues with it. I've had to replace the tire rods and brakes twice, and just last week I spent $800 on motor mounts. Last year, I had to replace the transmission for $1500, but unfortunately, it's still acting up. I took it back to the dealer, but they couldn't find anything wrong with the car. They cleared the codes and the car ran fine until this past weekend when the check engine light came back on. It turns out that the transmission torque converter and front pump have failed. Thankfully, I have a warranty, otherwise, it would have cost me another $1500 or more. I would advise against purchasing this car as it has been quite costly to maintain.

  3. Emile Kshlerin 2024-05-04

I completely agree with everyone's comments about the Pacifica. This car seems to have a lot of issues, from the ABA light turning on and off, to motor mounts and hoses coming apart, as well as brake problems. There are certain things that Chrysler needs to take responsibility for.

  4. Lee Streich 2024-03-22

This car has proven to be a major disappointment. The top end needed to be replaced due to repeated overheating, and the radiator hose kept dislodging because of broken motor mounts. The air conditioning is also not functioning properly. Currently, all four ABS sensors need to be replaced, and there may be additional issues. Despite having an extended drive train warranty, the cost of repairs has been in the thousands. Unfortunately, this car is unreliable and has resulted in additional expenses such as tow charges. It is clear that this car is not worth the investment.

  5. Mackenzie Bergnaum 2024-03-21

This is a fantastic car to drive, with a unique concept that combines an SUV and a wagon. The handling is fantastic and the suspension is outstanding. Although the finishing looks great, a closer look reveals that it is cheap and poor. Unfortunately, the car has some mechanical quality and reliability issues, with many small troubles. Additionally, the guarantee only covers 36,000 miles and in most cases, you will have to pay for those small failures as they are not covered. The service and maintenance network can also be expensive, with bills not covered by the guarantee. However, we hope that these issues can be resolved to ensure a better driving experience for everyone.

Positive Chrysler Pacifica 2005 car reviews

  1. Ron Kshlerin 2024-11-17

Traded off a 2002 Lexus RX300 and all I can say is WOW!! Daimler-Chrysler has a real winner here! The Pacifica is a fantastic car that makes me feel great. It has excellent safety features and a roomy cabin with great driver features. It handles ice and snow with ease, and turns heads wherever I go. Sorry Toyota/Lexus and anyone else trying to compete, but nobody has anything over on the Pacifica!

  2. Reilly Champlin 2024-09-24

I'm glad to hear that you love your 2005 Pacifica! It's definitely a great value compared to other SUV/Crossover vehicles in the 40K price range, such as the RX 330, Murano, SRX and X3. What I find most impressive about the Pacifica is its unique approach as an oversized wagon that still maintains its sedan-like poise. It's a great combination of utility and luxury, with room for 6, a power lift gate, wood and leather shifter, DVD player, 400 watt stereo, reverse park, 4 heated seats, Blue Tooth, HID lights and ample cargo capacity. Overall, the Pacifica is a truly exceptional 6-seater wagon that stands out from the rest.

  3. Raoul Bednar 2024-09-04

This car is perfect for those who don't want a minivan but also don't want just another ordinary car. I personally find that most cars today look alike, so I was looking for something that would stand out. And this car definitely does! It gives you the feeling of driving a sports car while still having enough room for the kids, just like a mini-van. It took me a while to find a car that would meet all of my driving needs, but this car definitely did it.

  4. Sherwood Howell 2024-08-09

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share my thoughts on this car. While it can be a bit pricey on gas, I absolutely love driving it! I feel incredibly safe behind the wheel, especially in snowy conditions or when tackling steep hills. Overall, I'm really happy with my choice!

  5. Omer Fritsch 2024-07-29

This vehicle is really beautiful! Although, I have noticed some blind spots that I cannot seem to overcome no matter how long I drive it. I have even had to get out of my car to see what's behind it before backing out of a tight space. Despite this, there are some amazing creature comforts. However, I did notice that there is no place for a trash container. I purchased this car to replace my Suburban, hoping to upgrade my fuel economy. Unfortunately, I have yet to exceed 15 mpg, which is a bit of a disappointment. I am a careful driver and don't hot-rod, so I am unclear why there is a discrepancy between the mileage I am getting and what was stated on the window sticker.
