The Volvo V70 is an executive car manufactured and marketed by Volvo Cars from 1996 to 2016 across three generations. The name V70 combines the letter V, standing for versatility, and 70, denoting relative platform size (i.e., a V70 is larger than a V40, but smaller than a V90).
The first generation (1996–2000) debuted in November 1996. It was based on the P80 platform and was available with front and all-wheel drive (AWD), the latter marketed as the V70 AWD. In September 1997, a crossover version called the V70 XC or V70 Cross Country was introduced. The sedan model was called Volvo S70.
The second generation (2000–2007) debuted in spring 2000. It was based on the P2 platform and, as with its predecessor, was also offered as an all-wheel drive variant marketed as the V70 AWD and as a crossover version initially called V70 XC. For the 2003 model year, the crossover was renamed to XC70. The sedan model was called Volvo S60.
The third generation (2007–2016) debuted in February 2007. It was based on the P3 platform and marketed as the V70 and the XC70. Production of the V70 ended on 25 April 2016, the XC70 continued until 13 May 2016. The sedan model was called Volvo S80.

- Summary: On two P3 Volvo cars I have owned now, the front passenger and driver side seatbelt release button sometimes does not release the seatbelt, this happens almost daily and requires the button to be forcibly pressed to release, more commonly on the passenger side. Additionally, on two separate occasions, the passenger side seatbelt has slotted into the latch but was loose when tugged on, not being able to support any tension. This happened on both cars that I owned and with different passengers, where we would arrive at our destination and then they would go to press the button and the seatbelt simply disconnected. On my newer P3 car, (With the VIN here) I replaced the seatbelt catch device on the passenger side believing this was an issue with just the car, but the new replacement also had this issue. This is a serious safety issue as it prevents passengers from exiting the vehicle during an emergency and also may give a false sense of safety with the belt being latched, when really the slightest tug releases it.

- Summary: I have noticed water leaking into the inside of my windshield and also noticed that the front and rear carpets are damp and the car is developing a musty smell. Upon closer inspection it appears that the top of the windshield is unbonded from the frame and moves outward when pressure is applied against it. This is a serious safety concern as the windshield is a structural component of the vehicle and the integrity of the vehicle with an unbonded windshield compromises the vehicle safety. Beyond that structural concern, the inside windshield fogs us consistently causing impaired visibility while driving, especially in the rain.

- Summary: We have experienced three major defects with this vehicle. First and most concerning is the intermittent blackout of the driver's instrument panel (aka driver's information module, DIM). Second most conerning is the defect in the trailer lighting control module that leaves stop, running and signal lighting on our trailer unreliable. Both of these defects appear to be design or manufacturing defects that can be corrected by upgrading the relevent parts. The third defect is in the design of the traction control system that has no physical switch readily accessible to the driver for temporary use in emergency situations, but rather is buried in the MyCar software selection, labeled "Sport Mode." This design requres a driver to override the traction control during the entire driving session, leaving the car without traction control when it might be needed during the same inclement road conditions that would warrant momentary deactivation of the system. Ie, in icy conditions one would want traction control on most times, but not when starting on ice or mounting snow berms at driveway exits, etc.

I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my experience with my XC70. I've had it for about a month now and have driven just over 1,000 miles. I must say, I'm absolutely loving this vehicle more and more each time I drive it. It's an absolute pleasure to drive, with its quiet and comfortable ride. The technology is amazing and very well thought out, and the design is simply elegant and functional. I'm at a loss to understand why Volvo is discontinuing it, as I feel like this is a special vehicle. I had been considering the XC-70 and the Subaru Outback for the past several years, but I'm so glad I went with the Volvo. After test driving the Outback, I can confidently say that it doesn't come close to the ride my XC-70 provides. The seats in the XC-70 are simply amazing and the most comfortable car seats I've ever experienced. While some reviewers complain that the car is sluggish or doesn't handle well, I haven't experienced any of those issues. It's not a small car, so it's not as nimble as a sports car might be, but it feels solid on the road and the acceleration seems more than adequate to me.

I recently decided it was time for a new vehicle after owning a 2005 Subaru Forrester XT with 94K miles. My main criteria was to find a car that was both fun to drive and capable of carrying me, my friends and camping gear up Idaho forrest roads. After considering the 2010 Forrester and Outback, I ultimately settled on the XC 70 T6. I have been thoroughly enjoying driving it, thanks to its excellent handling and the turbo's impressive pickup. Additionally, the comfortable seat and relatively quiet AWD have made for a great driving experience. Although I have only had it for a week, I am already very happy with my decision.

I must say, after owning cars and trucks for 45 years, the XC70 is the one vehicle that I consider indispensable in comparison to all others that have graced my driveway. I purchased it when it was 3 years old with 60k miles, and my expectations were to drive it for a few years then upgrade. However, with a tick under 170k miles as we speak, the XC70 is my daily commuter (90/day roundtrip), and stand-in for my pickup truck when necessary. It truly is the 'Swiss Army Knife' of vehicular ownership. With a set of snows, it can go anywhere. With regular maintenance, it runs trouble-free. The 3.2 non-turbo inline 6 needs a kick in the pedal to hang with other more sporting types, but it will get you there safely, and in some style and comfort. The front seats are THE MOST COMFORTABLE I've ever spent drive time in. Not even close. With the rear seats folded down, the storage capacity is cavernous. The roof rails and my old Thule crossbars combine to make large items a breeze to transport and tie down. The tie-down system in the rear storage area still gets compliments from those exposed to them. I've been up and down the east coast multiple times, and I'm always amazed that fuel economy on the highway is regularly in the 25-28mpg range, depending on my right foot. The XC70 averages right around 22mpg over the course of a year of commuting. I don't do a lot of off-roading, but have done some, and I'm happy with the short front and rear overhangs that offer good approach and departure angles, and enough clearance to give any jeep a run for its money in most scenarios. The BLIS system is helpful, although given to occasional fits caused by spider webs. The styling is understated, and nearly invisible to most law enforcement. My only complaint centers around the automatic 'slapstick' transmission. The manual mode makes for fun, and engine breaking on downhills is a benefit to the reasonably good brakes.However, during some on and off gas maneuvers, the transmission occasionally searches for the proper gear, resulting in a discordant and clunky gear change. If I had to choose between this car and my 2007 F-150, I would install a Class I receiver on the Volvo and sell the truck. This is an excellent vehicle to live with on a daily basis, and now that they are available everywhere used, I would not hesitate to put any family member in an XC70. If I were buying again, I would go for the 2011 model that did away with the key mechanism in the dashboard, allowing you to simply push in and pull out the key. Volvo's penchant for long-term model design means my 08 still looks fresh today, almost 5 years after the last XC70 rolled off the line. Everyone should have a Swiss Army knife in their vehicle, and having the Swiss Army knife of vehicles in your driveway would be a great thing.

I recently traded in my '02 Land Rover Freelander for the 'Premium' Volvo XC70. In Canada, the 2010 XC70 is available in three trims: Base, Premium, and T6. The Premium version comes with a full climate package, BLIS, Bluetooth, HomeLink, leather upholstery, safety lock, power tailgate, motorized passenger seat, front seat, and other premium features. Although it doesn't include the T6 or adaptive suspension, we've had our XC 2010 for 6 months and it has performed admirably. Compared to the old Land Rover, this vehicle handles exceptionally well. The only downside is that the 3.2 can sound gruff and unrefined when climbing hills, but it's otherwise pretty smooth.

It's disappointing that the electrical system in my '06 XC70 failed for the second time, causing the car to stop in rural Vermont. When I called the 800 number, I was only offered 25 miles of towing with no additional assistance. As a result, I have decided that this will be my last Volvo. I was hoping for better reliability.

I have owned three Volvos so far, including an 02 XC70 and an 850 turbo. While my experience with the 08 model has not been as positive as I had hoped, I still appreciate certain aspects of the car. The fuel economy of this car (averaging 13.8L/100kms) is not as good as the 2002 model, and the increase in horsepower does not seem to have a significant impact on performance. Personally, I prefer the older turbo model and the center stack from the old model, which was slightly turned towards the driver. While there are some cosmetic improvements, there is very little about this car that is better than the previous model. The car is not as quiet nor as tight. Unfortunately, I have had to take the car back to the dealer five times for warranty repairs, despite having only driven 13K kms. However, I still appreciate the car for what it is and hope to see improvements in the future.

The Xc-70 has had some expensive repairs with several part failures happening just after the warranty expired. Although the dealer initially promised to cover the costs, they later reneged on their promise. However, I believe that Volvo can still improve on their brake system as they require full replacement every 30K miles. While there are other cars that are quieter, have better mileage, and are more reliable, I still appreciate the safety features of the Xc-70. Overall, I think that Volvo has the potential to make significant improvements to their vehicles.

However, within 2000 miles of the warranty expiring, I have incurred $8000 in repairs due to a failed water pump, timing belt, and transmission. Despite being outside the warranty, I believe that Volvo and the dealership should take responsibility for these issues. The reliability of their vehicles should not be in question, and I expect them to stand behind their product.

I have had two Volvos, and unfortunately, my second one did not meet my expectations. Despite my positive experience with my first Volvo (V40), I encountered several issues with my most recent purchase. These issues included two engine breakdowns within 24 hours of each other, incorrect carpeting which had to be replaced, battery and headlight failure within the first 6 months of ownership, and cheap interior components that easily broke, such as the radio knobs and electric rearview mirror controls. Additionally, the integrated cell phone suddenly stopped working, and the stitching on the seats and shift knobs began to come off.
