2006 Volvo Xc70 problems
The Volvo V70 is an executive car manufactured and marketed by Volvo Cars from 1996 to 2016 across three generations. The name V70 combines the letter V, standing for versatility, and 70, denoting relative platform size (i.e., a V70 is larger than a V40, but smaller than a V90).
The first generation (1996–2000) debuted in November 1996. It was based on the P80 platform and was available with front and all-wheel drive (AWD), the latter marketed as the V70 AWD. In September 1997, a crossover version called the V70 XC or V70 Cross Country was introduced. The sedan model was called Volvo S70.
The second generation (2000–2007) debuted in spring 2000. It was based on the P2 platform and, as with its predecessor, was also offered as an all-wheel drive variant marketed as the V70 AWD and as a crossover version initially called V70 XC. For the 2003 model year, the crossover was renamed to XC70. The sedan model was called Volvo S60.
The third generation (2007–2016) debuted in February 2007. It was based on the P3 platform and marketed as the V70 and the XC70. Production of the V70 ended on 25 April 2016, the XC70 continued until 13 May 2016. The sedan model was called Volvo S80.

- Summary: The contact owns a 2006 Volvo XC70. The contact stated while attempting to start the vehicle, the front suspension springs fractured. The contact heard a loud clicking sound. SEAT BELTS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-10-01
- VIN: YV4SZ592061
- Components: SEAT BELTS
- Summary: When rear seats are folded to make more room for cargo, the seat belts retract more inwards due to the retractable hardware that retracts the belts. The button clips that are clamped into the belt that stops them from happening break apart easily due to the retracting force of the belt and when trying to fold back the seats the belts get locked and are unable to fold back to the original position, the only way to fix this is to unbolt the belts and fold back the seats and bolt back the seat belts. When this is done, passengers are not able to buckle in the rear seats due to the belt retractable hardware being locked. Is a safety issue because the passenger can not buckle and, when the belt works and are able to buckle, sometimes when braking hard the belt retrieves a little to keep the passenger in place and when this happens the belts lock back again having the passenger being tightened by the belt and unable to move freely and having difficulty trying to unbuckle in case of an emergency.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-04-12
- VIN: YV4SZ592661
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: ORIGINAL KEYFOB ERASED ITSELF AFTER BATTERY WAS DISCONNECTED FOR TWO WEEKS WHILE REPLACING A FAILED ENGINE. I WORKED WITH VISTEON AUTOMOTIVE SYSTEMS AS AN ELECTRICAL ENGINEER, MANUFACTURING THEIR REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEMS. I KNOW VERY WELL THAT THE KEYFOB SHOULD BE PROGRAMMED IN NON-VOLATILE MEMORY CHIPS. VOLVO DOES NOT SEEM TO BE DOING THAT. THIS COULD BE A PUBLIC HAZARD ISSUE WHEN HAVING TO JUMP-START SUCH A VEHICLE TO GET AWAY FROM A NATURAL DISASTER. THE CAR MAY NOT START UNTIL YOU TOW IT TO VOLVO TO RE-PROGRAM IT. IN MY CASE, COURTESY VOLVO OF SCOTTSDALE, ARIZONA SENT ME A BILL FOR 10 HOURS OF LABOR FOR KEYFOB RE-PROGRAMMING. ATA RATE OF $68/HOUR. VISTEON'S PROGRAMMING PROCEDURE TAKES MINUTES. VOLVO'S TAKES MANY HOURS. THIS IS ANOTHER HAZARD ISSUE IN ITSELF.
SUSPENSION,WHEELS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2019-03-01
- VIN: YV4SZ592X61
- Components: SUSPENSION,WHEELS
- Summary: MILEAGE ON THIS VEHICLE WAS 115K WHEN THIS HAPPENED: MY WIFE STARTED TO BACK THE CAR STRAIGHT OUT OF OUR DRIVEWAY (FROM A STOPPED POSITION, IN REVERSE GEAR) WHEN SHE HEARD A LOUD BANG WHICH CAME FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. SHE STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND PLACED IT IN PARK. AFTER REMOVING THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL, I DISCOVERED THAT THE SUSPENSION COIL (OR SPRING) AS PART OF THE MACPHERSON STRUT ASSEMBLY, HAD SNAPPED IN TWO AT THE LOWER END. THE BROKEN OFF PART OF THE SPRING WAS SITTING ON THE LOWER CONTROL ARM, WHILE THE OTHER PART WAS STILL SURROUNDING THE STRUT. THAT PART OF THE SPRING WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR SLASHING THE TIRE WHEN IT FAILED. WE WERE THANKFUL THAT THIS HAPPENED ON OUR DRIVEWAY AND NOT GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. BUT WE WERE ALSO ASTOUNDED THAT SUCH A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF A SUSPENSION PART LIKE THIS WOULD OCCUR IN THE FIRST PLACE. THERE WERE NO RECALLS THAT WE WERE AWARE OF AND NOTHING IN THE SERVICE SCHEDULE ABOUT REPLACING THESE SPRINGS AT THE GIVEN MILEAGE.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2014-11-05

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2014-02-21
- VIN: YV4SZ592961
- Components: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
- Summary: TRAVELING NORTH ON 495 IN MASSACHUSETTS ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK AT APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH IN HEAVY TRAFFIC, MY CAR STARTED LOSING SPEED. I PUSHED HARDER ON THE GAS PEDAL, BUT IT KEPT SLOWING DOWN. I IMMEDIATELY TURNED MY BLINKER ON AND PULLED TO THE SLOW LANE, THINKING I MAY BE ABLE TO GET OFF THE HIGHWAY AT THE NEXT EXIT. I WAS ABLE TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD ALMOST INTO THE BREAKDOWN LANE. MY CAR STALLED. I WAS AT THE TURN OFF FOR THE EXIT - IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. I CALLED AAA FOR ASSISTANCE. A STATE POLICE OFFICER STOPPED AND SET UP FLARES TO HELP AVOID A COLLISION. FIRST LOOK FROM MY MECHANIC INDICATES A FUEL PUMP MODULE PROBLEM. THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL IN OTHER 2006 VOLVO MODELS FOR THIS ISSUE BUT NOT FOR THE XC 70. I LIVE IN NH SO THE CAR IS EXPOSED TO SALT/WATER. THERE WAS FLOODING ON THE WAY IN TO WORK THAT MORNING. THIS IS A VERY CONCERNING SAFETY ISSUE, AS MY CAR LITERALLY QUIT IN HEAVY TRAFFIC ON 495. *TR

- Summary: LOUD RATTLE NOISE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE. I WAS ON MY WAY FOR SERVICE FOR THE 110,000 CHECKUP. MY MECHANIC SAID IT WAS THE FRONT COIL SPRING THAT LET GO. HE SAID HE HAS HAD 9 OTHER CARS IN THE SHOP IN THE PAST 2 WEEKS WITH THE IDENTICAL PROBLEM. IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE HAD I BEEN ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE COIL SPRING LET GO, IT COULD HAVE BLOWN THE TIRE OR LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL. *TR

After conducting thorough research on similar vehicles, we ultimately decided on the XC70 with the premium and climate packages. While other makes may offer more options for less money, we firmly believe that safety should always be a top priority, and Volvo is renowned for its commitment to safety. Additionally, we were impressed by the solid construction of the XC70, which provides a reassuring feeling while driving. My wife was pleasantly surprised by how much she enjoyed driving this car. Although it may feel slightly ponderous compared to an Accord, it is easy to adjust to. Furthermore, the XC70 offers unparalleled roominess when compared to other AWD wagons in its class.

We changed our Passat wagon for a Volvo XC70 and we are absolutely loving it! It's the most comfortable and sturdy car we've ever owned. We're so happy with it that we've decided to keep it at the end of the lease. We're even thinking about getting another Volvo as a second car. With this car, you definitely get your money's worth.
-
Acceleration is slightly weakened by the all-wheel drive, but just imagine how well it would perform on slippery roads! Plus, if the drag strip was wet, no one would be able to beat it! It's also incredibly comfortable for even the longest 10-hour drives, and the stylish design is just the cherry on top. I couldn't find a single thing to complain about!
-
The 2006 XC70 is a really well-built SUV. As soon as you get inside and close the door, the outside world seems to quiet down immediately. It's really quiet on the highways and handles turns quickly - even better than I expected for a wagon and an SUV. It's exceptionally comfortable for long rides and the HU850 radio with DolbyII really makes an audible difference. According to the built-in computer, I'm getting 15 MPG about town and 25 MPG on the highway. I'm really happy with my purchase!
-
I just wanted to share that I recently purchased a 2006 XC70 AWD wagon and I am absolutely thrilled with it! This car is perfect for road trips or just cruising around town in style, comfort, and safety. It's a sweet ride, thanks Volvo!

I recently purchased a 06 XC70 for a great price of $3250. Although it had 166k miles on it, the previous owner took good care of it. However, I have encountered some issues with the car such as shuddering at idle or red lights and the transmission acting up while driving home today. I recently spent $1k on a new oil separator and PCV replacement. Despite these issues, I am determined to make the most of my purchase and use it for at least a year. In the future, I plan to purchase cars from Japan to avoid similar issues. Thank you for reading!
