The Volvo V70 is an executive car manufactured and marketed by Volvo Cars from 1996 to 2016 across three generations. The name V70 combines the letter V, standing for versatility, and 70, denoting relative platform size (i.e., a V70 is larger than a V40, but smaller than a V90).

The first generation (1996–2000) debuted in November 1996. It was based on the P80 platform and was available with front and all-wheel drive (AWD), the latter marketed as the V70 AWD. In September 1997, a crossover version called the V70 XC or V70 Cross Country was introduced. The sedan model was called Volvo S70.

The second generation (2000–2007) debuted in spring 2000. It was based on the P2 platform and, as with its predecessor, was also offered as an all-wheel drive variant marketed as the V70 AWD and as a crossover version initially called V70 XC. For the 2003 model year, the crossover was renamed to XC70. The sedan model was called Volvo S60.

The third generation (2007–2016) debuted in February 2007. It was based on the P3 platform and marketed as the V70 and the XC70. Production of the V70 ended on 25 April 2016, the XC70 continued until 13 May 2016. The sedan model was called Volvo S80.

POWER TRAIN,ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-01-15
  • VIN: YV440MBM3F1
  • Components: POWER TRAIN,ENGINE
  • Summary: My Volvo XC70 has had a sudden and significant increase in oil consumption. I believe this is due to the pistons which Volvo is now acknowledging. They refuse to issue a recall or to repair my very well maintained vehicle. Continue operation requires up to 2 quarts of oil every 500 miles! It also presents an ongoing risk of sudden engine malfunction and dangerous stoppage, I have all my records which shows my car has been maintained and the cause is faulty pistons. Volvo must be held accountable.

SEAT BELTS PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-09-30
  • VIN: YV4902NK7F1
  • Components: SEAT BELTS
  • Summary: At age 6 years (53K mi.), the front passenger seatbelt clasp began to refuse to latch when the belt buckle was inserted. Using a jeweler's headset, I could not see any foreign object causing interference. To rule out a bent buckle, I tested the clasp (after its removal) with 5 other buckles, and all failed to latch into the clasp every time. The clasp failure-to-latch showed no signs of gradual failure. The first notice was when a passenger tried to buckle up, and noticed it didn't latch. The car was still parked. The Volvo part that failed is 31369706 Front Right Seatbelt Clasp. I successfully replaced the part with a genuine Volvo replacement part from a Volvo dealer. A clasp latch-failure on this vehicle carries the extra hazard of inhibiting air-bag deployment, as the latch assy. embeds a strain gauge which casts a necessary vote for air-bag activation. If interested, email me. Question: Would NHTSA care to have me ship the failed clasp to do a mechanical failure analysis? It would be surrendered to NHTSA with no conditions.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-08-01
  • VIN: Yv4902nc3f1
  • Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: Fuel gauge doesn’t show actual fuel level. When full, it shows 50% left, and gauge doesn’t start to move till half the tank is empty.
2016-12-23

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2016-12-07
  • VIN: YV4902NM7F1
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: FACTORY INSTALLED HITCH ALMOST FAILED. AFTER 16,000 MILES OF TOWING A 21 FOOT TRAVEL TRAILER, THE HITCH APPEARED TO HAVE EXCESSIVE MOVEMENT. WHEN INSPECTED BY A MECHANIC IN BRANSON MISSOURI, IT WAS FOUND THAT 2 OF 4 NUTS HAD FALLEN OFF AND THE REMAINING 2 WERE SIGNIFICANTLY LOOSE. HAD THEY FALLEN OFF TOO, A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE WOULD HAVE OCCURRED, WITH THE HITCH FALLING OFF, ALONG WITH THE REAR BUMPER AND A PORTION OF THE EXHAUST SYSTEM. THE TRAILER COULD HAVE DROPPED OFF AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, CAUSING A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. PLEASE CONSIDER A RECALL TO FORCE AN INSPECTION OF ALL FACTORY INSTALLED HITCHES ON VOLVO XC70, YEAR 2015.5.

Negative 2015 Volvo Xc70 car reviews

  1. Hans Wilderman 2024-09-21

I purchased this car brand new in November 2014 and absolutely loved it. The interior and exterior were beautiful, and it was so comfortable to drive. The car had great pick-up speed and cargo space, making it perfect for my frequent road trips around New England. However, I did have some concerns about the tires. Unfortunately, I experienced multiple flats and had to replace a total of 11 tires in less than 4 years. This made me feel unsafe and insecure about driving, especially on long trips. Despite my attempts to address the issue with the dealership, I did not receive the level of concern and attention that I had hoped for. Ultimately, I decided to trade in the car for an Audi Q7 in January 2019, which I feel much more confident and safe driving.

  2. Benton Kautzer 2024-04-18

I have owned four Volvos in the past and loved the first three, including the 2002 v70 and the 2006 s60. When I decided to buy a new Volvo, I expected the same level of quality. However, I was disappointed to find that the headlights were not suitable for night driving above 45 mph, despite having a visor over them. Despite my attempts to adjust them, they still did not provide adequate visibility. Unfortunately, the Volvo dealers were unable to offer any solutions. As a result, I had to sell the car due to safety concerns. While I was disappointed with this experience, I still believe that Volvo is a reputable car company and I hope that they will address this issue in the future.

Positive 2015 Volvo Xc70 car reviews

  1. Ryan Heathcote 2025-08-04

Congratulations on your fifth Volvo! It's great to hear that your XC70 2015 T6 AWD has been performing well with no mechanical issues. It's a shame to hear about the inconvenience you faced with the dealership closure and the distance you have to travel for scheduled maintenance. It's understandable that you tried to work through Volvo customer service, but it's disappointing to hear that there was no method of filing customer complaints. Despite these issues, it's wonderful to hear that you find the car very comfortable and that you have decided to keep it for a bit longer. Thank you for sharing your experience with us!

This is the European truck, which is used for a variety of purposes. It's a popular choice for families who need to tow things, and even Scotland Yard police use it as a police car. The ride can feel a bit like a boat at low speeds, but it's firm and handles potholes well on the highway. The front and rear sensors are a big help, and the steering has a smooth, rubbery feel that's not too heavy. Long distance driving is not tiring, and acceleration is amazing on the highway. The seats are comfortable and the infotainment and voice control are reliable once you get used to them. With 29000 miles on mine, there's a bit of rear seat area squeaking, but it could just be natural built quality. It's worth noting that my previous 2017 V60 CC felt tighter in terms of built quality. There are two minor issues with the Volvo Bluetooth: when using iPhones to make calls, the voice volume of the other person is so low that it's practically useless, and the two round front lower lights are 'running lights' that can't be controlled by any buttons. They don't project much light, so it's hard to tell if they're on or not. I've tried different XC70s and they're all the same.

We recently purchased a Volvo XC 70 platinum T6 3 liter, which had an EPA mpg of 17/24 mpg. After previously owning two BMW X1s in 2014 and 2015, we were a bit concerned about the mpg and its impact on the environment. However, after taking it on a major road trip of 430 miles in California, we were pleasantly surprised. Despite the bumpy roads, heavy traffic, and stop-and-go interstates, we achieved an overall round-trip gas mileage of 25.6 mpg with cruising speeds of 70-80 mph. The best feature of this car is the front seats, which are incredibly comfortable and perfect for my wife's spinal issues. Although the back seats could use more legroom, they are still better than the X1s we've owned. The car runs smoothly, has plenty of acceleration, and minimal road noise. While the steering is a bit light and lacks the intuitive feeling of a performance car like a BMW X1, the handling around curves is slightly above average. Overall, we are very happy with our purchase and look forward to breaking in the engine with more miles.I'm looking forward to more enjoyable road trips and I expect to find the car to be superior. I also anticipate slightly higher mpg on long road trips. Although there are no available safety ratings for this model, it is a Volvo, known for its safety features. The exterior body is very solid and the finish is excellent. After purchasing three new cars in the last 24 months, we've learned that it's important to do your homework before making a purchase. This includes researching the invoice price and reading reviews about the car's handling, among other things.

This was the perfect solution for me! I was looking for a vehicle that was easy for my aging parents to get in and out of, but also fun to drive. This wagon fit the bill perfectly and was an absolute pleasure to drive. The electronics, while not as advanced as other luxury cross-overs, were still easy to operate. My only complaint is that Volvo no longer makes this model.

After driving this car 65,000 miles, I can still say that it is the best vehicle I have ever owned. I feel less tired after a long freeway trip than in previous cars I have had, thanks to the excellent driving position, superior visibility, great road-holding feel (it feels like it drives itself when going 75 MPH), slightly heavy steering feel (which requires less effort during high-speed driving), wonderful seats, blind-spot monitoring system, and a superior audio sound system. The cabin is also quiet, and the AC is powerful. Nothing has broken, in spite of the car's electronic complexity, and the interior still looks very good because of the high quality of the materials. This model has been overlooked by most people, and is now discontinued, but I believe I've owned a gem. UPDATE: After 107,000 miles... My 2014 XC70 T-6 still runs great and nothing has broken, except for wear-and-tear requiring new hatch struts (it loses
