2007 Volvo Xc70 problems
The Volvo V70 is an executive car manufactured and marketed by Volvo Cars from 1996 to 2016 across three generations. The name V70 combines the letter V, standing for versatility, and 70, denoting relative platform size (i.e., a V70 is larger than a V40, but smaller than a V90).
The first generation (1996–2000) debuted in November 1996. It was based on the P80 platform and was available with front and all-wheel drive (AWD), the latter marketed as the V70 AWD. In September 1997, a crossover version called the V70 XC or V70 Cross Country was introduced. The sedan model was called Volvo S70.
The second generation (2000–2007) debuted in spring 2000. It was based on the P2 platform and, as with its predecessor, was also offered as an all-wheel drive variant marketed as the V70 AWD and as a crossover version initially called V70 XC. For the 2003 model year, the crossover was renamed to XC70. The sedan model was called Volvo S60.
The third generation (2007–2016) debuted in February 2007. It was based on the P3 platform and marketed as the V70 and the XC70. Production of the V70 ended on 25 April 2016, the XC70 continued until 13 May 2016. The sedan model was called Volvo S80.

- Throttle Valve and Electronic Throttle Module Failures: Some models of the Volvo XC70, particularly those offered until 2002, have experienced failures in the electronic throttle module and throttle valve. These issues can impact engine performance and require proper diagnosis and repair to ensure optimal functionality .
- Braking System Wear: Over time, the friction linings on the parking brake drum blocks can rust, potentially causing wheel wedging issues. Additionally, pressure springs of the front and rear caliper pads may weaken, leading to reduced braking efficiency and noise on bumps .
These common problems highlight the importance of regular maintenance and thorough inspections to address issues promptly and ensure the longevity and reliability of the Volvo XC70 2007.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2015-05-04
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE
- Summary: AFTER DRIVING FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES IN 77F, SUNNY, DRY CONDITIONS, I'D COME OFF THE FREEWAY AND STOPPED FOR ABOUT 15 SECONDS AT A LIGHT TO MAKE A LEFT TURN. WHEN I STARTED MAKING THE LEFT, SOMEONE BLEW THROUGH THE RED LIGHT TO TURN RIGHT COMING FROM THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME. I LET OFF THE THROTTLE BUT THE THROTTLE DID NOT RELEASE. I WAS GOING ABOUT 15-20MPH WITH THE ENGINE AROUND 2,000RPM IN, MOST LIKELY, THIRD GEAR. SINCE I WAS AT LOW SPEED, I PROMPTLY TRIED GENTLY TIPPING IN THE THROTTLE TO SEE IF I COULD CLOSE BUT IT DID NOT SO I IMMEDIATELY PUT THE TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL. THE MOTOR REVVED UP TO ABOUT 4,000RPM WHICH IS A NATURAL IDLE FOR THIS MOTOR IF THE TRANSMISSION IS IN GEAR AND THE MOTOR IS UNDER LOAD AT 2,000RPM. AFTER SEEING IT REV UP, I PUT IT BACK IN DRIVE AND IT JERKED INTO GEAR BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS STILL ON THROTTLE. SUDDENLY THE THROTTLE CUT AND IT RETURNED TO THE NORMAL PEDAL TRAVEL VS. ACCELERATION RESPONSE RELATION. IT FELT AS THOUGH THE CAR HAD CRUISE CONTROL ON. I COULD MAKE IT GO FASTER BUT THE MOTOR WOULDN'T ROTATE ANY SLOWER THAN ABOUT 2,000RPM. *TR

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING,POWER TRAIN,STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2012-05-11
- Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING,POWER TRAIN,STRUCTURE
- Summary: WHEN DRIVING THROUGH PUDDLES OF WATER, SLUSH OR SNOW, THE EXHAUST MAY COOL DOWN FAST ENOUGH TO CHANGE SHAPE AND TOUCH THE PROPELLER SHAFT, CAUSING A HIGH PITCHED SQUEALING NOISE. THIS NOISE WILL BE NOTICED BY THE DRIVER FOR ONLY A SHORT TIME; ONCE THE EXHAUST TEMPERATURE EQUALIZES THE NOISE WILL DISAPPEAR. THIS CREATES A HIGH-PITCHED, SIREN LIKE NOISE, WHICH CAN SCARE THE DRIVER CAUSING HIS/HER TO SWERVE OR LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE IS A DESIGN DEFECT RECOGNIZED BY VOLVO WITH REPAIR KIT AVAILABLE PN# 30742265. AS THIS IS A DESIGN DEFECT AND A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE, THIS SHOULD BE RECALLED BY VOLVO AND NOT A $250.00 REPAIR BY THE CUSTOMER. *TR

LUCKILY, NO ONE WAS HURT AS WE WERE IN A LARGE DRIVEWAY AND MY HUSBAND WAS ABLE TO GET THE DOG OUT OF THE WAY. THANK GOODNESS WE HAD THE EXTRA SPACE. IF THIS HAD BEEN IN A PARKING LOT, I WOULD HAVE HIT ANOTHER CAR OR HIT A PERSON WITHOUT QUESTION. THERE WAS A RECALL FOR EARLIER MODEL VOLVOS (S40 & V40) AND SHOULD BE FOR ANY VOLVO VEHICLES WITH THE SAME SWITCH/BRAKE VACUUM BEFORE SOMEONE IS INJURED SEVERELY OR WORSE, KILLED. SUSPENSION PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2013-02-05
- VIN: YV4SZ592071
- Components: SUSPENSION
- Summary: MY WIFE WAS DRIVING ALONE IN HER 07 VOLVO STATIONWAGON ON A ROUTINE ERRAND DOWN THE I-83 INTERSTATE AT 65 MPH ON A STRAIGHT SECTION WHEN SHE HEARD A LOUD BANG; LIKE SOMEONE HAD SHOT AT THE CAR ON THE RIGHT SIDE. HAVING BEEN UNNERVED BY THE LOUD NOISE AND NOT KNOWING WHAT IT WAS, SHE TOOK THE EXIT RAMP SLOWLY, AND THE CAR SLID OUT A BIT TO THE RIGHT LIKE IT WAS ON ICE, BUT THERE WAS NO ICE PRESENT. UPON INSPECTION LATER, THE RIGHT REAR COIL SPRING HAD SNAPPED IN TWO. WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND AFTER SOME HAGGLING AND A CALL TO VOLVO FACTORY, THEY REPLACED THE SPRING (NO CHARGE FOR THE PART, BUT WE HAD TO PAY THE LABOR). ADDITIONALLY, THEY AGREED TO A LOANER FOR THE COUPLE OF DAYS IT WAS AT THE DEALERSHIP. VOLVO FACTORY AGREED TO OPEN A "GOOD WILL REVIEW" FILE AND ALERTED THE DEALERSHIP. I WAS 936 MILES OUT OF WARRANTEE. THEY SAID THERE WAS NO RECALL, BUT AGREED TO PAYING FOR THE PART. NO ONE COULD ANSWER WHETHER THE OTHER COILS MIGHT SNAP SPONTANEOUSLY. THEY LOOKED "OK". *TR

SUSPENSION PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2011-05-30
- VIN: YV4SZ592871
- Components: SUSPENSION
- Summary: WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY WITH 3 FAMILY MEMBERS AND OUR DOG IN THE CAR THIS LAST WEEKEND, THERE WAS SUDDENLY A LOUD BANG (SOUNDED LIKE SOMETHING HAD HIT THE CAR). THE ROAD WAS SMOOTH AND WEATHER WAS GOOD. I PULLED OVER IMMEDIATELY AND COULD SEE NOTHING. CAUTIOUSLY DRIVING THE REST OF THE WAY HOME (APPROX. 15 MILES) THE CAR SEEMED TO HANDLE NORMALLY ALTHOUGH THERE WAS A NEW THUDDING NOISE WHEN ROLLING OVER SMALL ROAD BUMPS. MY WIFE TOOK THE CAR TO A MECHANIC YESTERDAY WHO PUT IT UP ON A LIFT AND DISCOVERED THAT THE RIGHT REAR COIL SPRING HAD BROKEN. HE ADVISED THAT THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD, THAT WE WERE LUCKY THAT A TIRE WASN'T PUNCTURED OR CONTROL LOST WHILE DRIVING, AND THAT THE CAR SHOULD NOT BE DRIVEN UNTIL THE SPRING IS REPLACED. THIS CAR IS USED IN TYPICAL SUBURBAN FAMILY DRIVING AND HAS BEEN REGULARLY MAINTAINED. WE DO NOT SUBJECT IT TO HEAVY LOADS OR USE. I AM SHOCKED THAT THERE WAS A SUDDEN CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE COIL SPRING. I AM FILING THIS COMPLAINT BECAUSE IN ALL MY YEARS OF DRIVING I HAVE NEVER HAD SUCH A SUDDEN FAILURE OF A KEY COMPONENT WITH POTENTIALLY DEADLY CONSEQUENCES. YOU WILL HAVE THE RESOURCES TO DETERMINE IF THIS WAS JUST AN ISOLATED RANDOM FAILURE OR SOME MORE GENERAL DESIGN OR MANUFACTURING DEFECT.

INTERMITTENT PROBLEM BEGAN WITH THE FRONT PASSENGER RESTRAINT AFTER 1 MONTH OF USE, 'LOCKING UP' AT A DIFFERENT LENGTH WITH EACH ATTEMPT. ATTEMPTS ARE ALWAYS MADE WITH THE CAR AT A COMPLETE STOP. PROBLEM HAS INCREASED IN FREQUENCY AND SEVERITY OVER TIME. AFTER 2 MONTHS OF USE THE PROBLEM IS CONSTANT, OFTEN TAKING OVER 15 ATTEMPTS TO EXTEND THE BELT FULLY. ON ONE OCCASION, THE BELT WASN'T ALLOWED TO EXTEND FROM THE RETRACTOR ANY DISTANCE AT ALL. DRIVER AND REAR PASSENGER RETRACTORS HAVE BEGUN TO SHOW SAME PROBLEMS.

This vehicle is an amazing car that has saved lives twice. It has almost been like family and always loves to get up and go. I strongly believe that they should not have redesigned it for 2008. The car has been through two 5-car pile-ups and saved the lives of my three friends. I would highly recommend Volvo to anyone looking for a life-saving vehicle. The XC70 is a beautiful legend.

After conducting thorough research on similar vehicles, we ultimately decided on the XC70 with the premium and climate packages. While other makes may offer more options for less money, we firmly believe that safety should always be a top priority, and Volvo is renowned for its commitment to safety. Additionally, we were impressed by the solid construction of the XC70, which provides a reassuring feeling while driving. My wife was pleasantly surprised by how much she enjoyed driving this car. Although it may feel slightly ponderous compared to an Accord, it is easy to adjust to. Furthermore, the XC70 offers unparalleled roominess when compared to other AWD wagons in its class.

I recently had tinted windows applied to my car after purchasing it from the factory. Unfortunately, my kids accidentally put the windows down and they wouldn't go back up. I called the dealership and they were very helpful, instructing me to drive to the dealership (which was 30 minutes away) in the rain. They were able to fix the windows and advised me not to put them down for a week. Later, I decided to apply a winter tire package and waited for 1.5 hours in the service area. Although it cost me $1100.00, I was happy with the service. However, after driving for only 20 minutes, a message appeared on my dashboard telling me that I needed service on my tires. I called the service department and was informed that they had forgotten to add the sensors with the tires. This was apparently a new requirement and would cost an additional $350.00. I decided to return another day and when I did, I had to wait another 1.5 hours. After that, I drove for 20 minutes and the message disappeared.

The 2006 XC70 is a really well-built SUV. As soon as you get inside and close the door, the outside world seems to quiet down immediately. It's really quiet on the highways and handles turns quickly - even better than I expected for a wagon and an SUV. It's exceptionally comfortable for long rides and the HU850 radio with DolbyII truly makes an audible difference. According to the built-in computer, I'm getting 15 MPG about town and 25 MPG on the highway. I'm really happy to have purchased it.

I just wanted to share that I recently purchased a 2006 XC70 AWD wagon and I am absolutely thrilled with it! This car is perfect for road trips or just cruising around town in style, comfort, and safety. It's a sweet ride, thanks Volvo!

I had a 1993 240 wagon and it was great, only requiring regular maintenance. However, my 2007 model has had a few issues in the first year of ownership (2016-17). I understand that it's 9-10 years old, but it's frustrating. The rear back left light console socket burned out and melted in the socket, which required replacing the entire console. Additionally, the suspension spring broke, which was a major issue that ripped up my tire and could have been deadly if I were driving. I was disappointed that my local Volvo dealership didn't seem concerned, even though it was dangerous. Unfortunately, there were no recalls, so it wasn't covered. I am having all 4 springs replaced, as others have said that when one goes, another goes at a later time on their car. It's very expensive! Lastly, the fuel gauge reads half full when I fill it up at the gas station, but the dealership couldn't find the problem. I miss my '93, but its frame was rusted beyond repair.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my Volvo that I leased back in 10/2006. I purchased the additional service feature on it, but unfortunately, the car has 26K miles on it and needs some repairs. Specifically, I need new rotors, brakes, a new side view mirror, alignment, tires, and a horn. The total cost for these repairs is $1,100, which is a bit disappointing considering I put $4K down and have been paying $470/month ever since. Despite this setback, I'm still grateful for the time I've had with my Volvo. Thank you for listening to my story!

The oil leak caused the turbo to fail. The cost of repair is over 5,000, despite the fact that I purchased it less than a year ago.

Had the worst experience with this car than any other car I have owned. After 35,000 miles car broke down due to a fuel sensor. Had to wait for 3 hour in over 100 degree wather for Volvo's road side assistance. Had to drive 75 miles to pick up the car only to get almost home for it to break again. Now the back seat seatbelt is not working and have to go up to the dealership again. Paid to have tires rotated, service did not do this. 35000 miles on the car and I need new tires. I do not drive cars hard and we always keep up with oil changes, tire rotation etc. I am a working mom who has to do the school run. However I recently feel every time I get in the car, there is a problem.

2nd Volvo XC 70 for us. Previous was 03, with better mileage (17/26). City driving yields 13mpg, highway never better than 22. Also have had repeated problems with the tire pressure monitoring system--car has been back 3x for service--each time, they tweak, but warning message comes on after 30 minutes on highway. Never in short runs in city. Earlier they changed sensors, told me to keep tyres infated to 43psi (!) Now they have changed some electronics-let's see.
