The Toyota Yaris (Japanese: トヨタ・ヤリス, Hepburn: Toyota Yarisu) is a supermini/subcompact car sold by Toyota since 1999, replacing the Starlet and Tercel.
Up to 2019, Toyota had used the Yaris nameplate on export versions of various Japanese-market models, with some markets receiving the same vehicles under the Toyota Echo name through 2005. Starting in 2020, the Yaris nameplate began to be used in Japan, which replaced the Vitz nameplate.

In 2020, Toyota introduced the GR Yaris, which is a three-door performance-oriented variant of the XP210 series Yaris using the Gazoo Racing branding. It is built as a homologation model for the FIA World Rally Championship.
The name "Yaris" is derived from "Charis", the singular form of Charites, the Greek goddesses of charm and beauty. As of March 2020, the Yaris has sold 8.71 million units worldwide.

- Summary: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2010-2016 4Runner, 2003-2006 Tundra, 2003-2013 Corolla, 2009-2010 Corolla Matrix, 2004-2005 RAV4, 2002-2007 Sequoia, 2011-2013 Sienna, 2008-2012 Scion xB, 2008-2009 Lexus IS-F, 2007-2012 Yaris and Lexus ES350, 2010-2017 Lexus GX460, 2002-2010 Lexus SC430, 2006-2012 Lexus IS250 and IS350 and 2010-2015 Lexus IS250C and IS350C vehicles. These vehicles had their driver or passenger frontal air bag inflators previously replaced under a prior recall using inflators of the same design. The inflators may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, temperature and temperature cycling.
- Consequence: An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Toyota will notify owners. Depending on the vehicle model, dealers will replace the front driver inflator, front passenger airbag inflator, the airbag assembly, or the front passenger airbag sub-assembly and inflator. The recall began November 20, 2019. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-888-270-9371 or Lexus customer service at 1-800-255-3987. Toyota's numbers for this recall are J0A, J0B, and J0C. Lexus' numbers for this recall are JLI, JLJ, and JLK.

These vehicles are equipped with certain air bag inflators assembled as part of the passenger frontal air bag modules used as original equipment or replacement equipment. - Consequence: If the vehicles are equipped with a headliner that does not meet the impact requirements, there is an increased risk of occupantl injury in the event of a crash.

- Summary: Toyota is recalling certain model year 2012 Yaris vehicles manufactured August 21, 2011, through August 31, 2011. A relay in the Power Steering Control Module of the electronic power steering system could experience a short circuit due to insufficient distance between terminals in the relay and moisture contamination of relay coil windings. A short circuit in the relay could disable power steering assistance.
- Consequence: If the power steering assistance shuts off, the driver may have difficulty steering the vehicle at low speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will replace the power steering control module. The recall began on July 31, 2013. Owners may contact Toyota at 1-800-331-4331.

I've had some issues with the engine oil fill level in my Yaris. Unfortunately, the oil dipstick is totally shiny and smooth on both sides, which makes it difficult to check the oil levels with any degree of certainty between oil changes. Mechanics have also overfilled my oil when it's been changed, which has caused me to return my Yaris to the mechanic 8 times. While this is frustrating, I still love my Yaris and find it to be a great little car. Despite the oil dipstick design and the odd-acting clutch, the engine runs smoothly and quietly, and there isn't a single rattle anywhere in the car. I continue to get 40+/- mpg, which is fantastic. Overall, I'm happy with my Yaris and would definitely consider buying another Toyota in the future.

I've had this car for a few weeks now and I absolutely love every ride in it. I'm really impressed with its slick performance and stylish design. While I wasn't expecting much cargo space for its segment, I'm pleasantly surprised that I can easily fit my weekly groceries and then some. The interior design is also very convenient, with lots of leg room. Plus, it's reduced my stops at the gas station! The only thing I think it could use is a center storage and an armrest.

Have you noticed that the pedal is causing pressure on the ligaments in the arch and top of your right foot? We understand how painful that can be. We recommend having a professional take a look at it to see if there's anything that can be done to adjust the pedal for a more comfortable driving experience. It's a zippy little car that has plenty of space for a tall person. It's great for the city due to its compact nature. The only flaw is that it doesn't have cruise control. As for maintenance, I've changed all of my fluids in the vehicle to enhance longevity.

Resting your foot on the L model's dead pedal can be a bit tricky as it tends to get caught under the clutch pedal. This can be quite inconvenient when you anticipate a gear change soon. Additionally, the gear shift feels quite crude and notchy. However, if you opt for the LE model with automatic shift and more creature comforts such as power windows, your drive will be much more enjoyable. In fact, I had an LE model in 2006 which easily survived being T-boned in the driver door by a pickup truck. I only traded it for a VW Rabbit. Even though my 2012 L stick easily yielded 32 mpg in short city drives, I'm still considering trading it for a great Mazda3 iTouring hatch after 5 months.
