The Toyota Yaris (Japanese: トヨタ・ヤリス, Hepburn: Toyota Yarisu) is a supermini/subcompact car sold by Toyota since 1999, replacing the Starlet and Tercel.
Up to 2019, Toyota had used the Yaris nameplate on export versions of various Japanese-market models, with some markets receiving the same vehicles under the Toyota Echo name through 2005. Starting in 2020, the Yaris nameplate began to be used in Japan, which replaced the Vitz nameplate.
The Yaris nameplate has also been applied to other vehicles. From 1999 to 2005, the nameplate had been used for the Yaris Verso mini MPV sold in Europe, where it was known in Japan as the FunCargo. Since 2020, the nameplate has also been used for the subcompact crossover SUV offering called Yaris Cross. In North America, most Yaris sedan models sold from 2015 to 2020 and Yaris hatchbacks sold from 2019 until 2020 were restyled versions of the Mazda2, produced and developed by Mazda.
In 2020, Toyota introduced the GR Yaris, which is a three-door performance-oriented variant of the XP210 series Yaris using the Gazoo Racing branding. It is built as a homologation model for the FIA World Rally Championship.
The name "Yaris" is derived from "Charis", the singular form of Charites, the Greek goddesses of charm and beauty. As of March 2020, the Yaris has sold 8.71 million units worldwide.

The rear wheel bearings are known for premature wear, and a rumbling noise coming from the rear wheels when carrying out maneuvers at low speeds indicates a faulty wheel bearing that needs to be replaced.
The air conditioning on the Yaris may not produce ice-cold air on the coldest setting, indicating a problem with the compressor that requires a replacement.
The DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) warning light may appear on the dashboard if the car is only used around town, and the filter does not get hot enough to burn off unwanted particles. Driving the car at about 35-40mph in third gear for 5-6 miles should solve this problem, but manual clearing of the DPF may be needed if the warning light does not turn off.
The rear seat belt may become very worn at the base due to the sharp edge of the seat belt anchor plate. Replacement seat belts are needed to solve this problem.

He removed the top inlets from the roof exterior, helped replace them with OEMs, yet they still flew off the vehicle on the freeway. On August 29, 2023, the service team at Hanlees Hilltop Toyota verified the tabs on the bumpers are broken, and are even saying they cannot guarantee they will be able to properly install new parts if I order them from here, and are trying to refer me to a body shop? The wire harnesses for the side air bag sensors located within the front doors may crack and corrode, possibly causing the non-deployment or improper deployment of the front seat side air bags and the curtain shield air bags.
- Consequence: In the event of a crash, front seat side air bags and curtain shield air bags that do not deploy as intended can increase the risk of injury.
- Remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will replace the wire harness assembly in the front doors, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began June 7, 2019. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-888-270-9371. Toyota's number for this recall is K1F/K0F.

- Summary: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2015 Yaris vehicles manufactured January 13, 2015, to February 27, 2015. The front strut mounting bearings can be damaged when a high load is applied to the strut, such as driving over a large bump.
- Consequence: A damaged strut mounting bearing may cause the strut rod to separate, causing a loss of vehicle stability and increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will replace the strut mounting bearings and, as necessary, replace the strut and front suspension support sub-assembly, free of charge. Remedy parts are currently unavailable. Interim notices were mailed to owners July 12, 2016. The recall began on September 29, 2016. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. The affected vehicles may have been manufactured with a roof headliner that does not provide the proper occupant protection in the event of a crash. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 201, " Occupant Protection in Interior Impact."
- Consequence: If the vehicles are equipped with a headliner that does not meet the impact requirements, there is an increased risk of occupantl injury in the event of a crash.
- Remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will replace the headliner, free of charge. The recall began on June 22, 2015. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331.

- Consequence: The improperly tightened bolts may loosen during vehicle operation and may potentially cause the wheel to lock up or may damage the rear brake components, reducing their effectiveness. Either condition increases the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the rear axle bearing bolts, tightening them as necessary, free of charge. The recall began during April 3, 2015. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331.

It's a zippy little car that has plenty of space for a tall person. It's great for the city due to its compact nature. The only flaw is that it doesn't have cruise control. As for maintenance, I've changed all of my fluids in the vehicle to enhance longevity.

I recently switched from a '95 Infiniti j30t to a '15 Yaris. Although they are two completely different cars, I found both to be lovable in their own ways. From the moment I test drove the Yaris, I fell in love with its nimble handling, easy hairpin turns, and fun compactness. The Yaris has a sporty suspension that keeps you engaged with the road and helps to handle rougher roads without bumping the front or rear ends on heavy dips. The factory Toyota sound system and speakers are fantastic, providing a truly premium experience without any extra cost. I was very pleased with the easy-to-use infotainment system, which always connected quickly to my devices. The knobs/buttons for all the controls were also very handy, making it simple to use while driving in traffic. I was always able to fit a lot of stuff in the cargo area, with or without the seats down. Although it's not quite as spacious as the Honda Fit, it's suitable for most cargo! I was even able to handle four people's luggage on a long road trip with no problem. Additionally, I saved a lot of gas! Although the tank was small and needed to be filled often, I still got great mileage! My main complaints are the lack of a center armrest console and the difficulty getting up to freeway speeds/going up hills. However, the Yaris is perfect for city driving, where it can fit into any parking spot, handle quick sprints and hard stops, and find a gas station quickly in a pinch. I would have been happy with the Yaris forever if my commute didn't change to a freeway route.

I strongly believe that my 2013 Yaris SE does not provide a comfortable ride. The steering wheel is overly sensitive and every bump on the road is felt, making it an unpleasant driving experience. Additionally, I had an unfortunate incident where I hit a mouse and could feel the impact through the steering wheel. As a result, I have decided not to purchase any Toyota products in the future.

I noticed a few things that I think could be improved with the car. For example, the turning radius is not as good as the older 2008 model, and the cupholders that were on the side of the front dash have been removed. Additionally, I live on a road with a steep hill that is dirt and gravel, and one night my mom and I tried to drive up it in the snow. Unfortunately, the car shut itself off completely once we hit the max power, which could have caused a dangerous situation. However, I do appreciate how well the car handles in normal conditions, and the touchscreen and hands-free calling features are pretty cool. Lastly, as a tall person, I have trouble seeing out of the rearview mirror, which seems to have been designed for shorter people. Overall, while it's not my favorite car, there are still some things that I appreciate about it.

Resting your foot on the L model's dead pedal can be a bit tricky as it tends to get caught under the clutch pedal. This can be quite inconvenient when you anticipate a gear change soon. Additionally, the gear shift feels quite crude and notchy. However, if you opt for the LE model with automatic shift and more creature comforts such as power windows, your drive will be much more enjoyable. In fact, I had an LE model in 2006 which easily survived being T-boned in the driver door by a pickup truck. I only traded it for a VW Rabbit. Even though my 2012 L stick easily yielded 32 mpg in short city drives, I'm still considering trading it for a great Mazda3 iTouring hatch after 5 months.

I will not be purchasing another Toyota after driving this vehicle for 8 years. The car's suspension is not up to par, as even small bumps and pieces of gravel can be felt through the steering wheel. Additionally, I experienced an unpleasant incident where I hit a mouse and could feel the impact through the steering wheel. Despite these issues, the car's mileage is satisfactory.

Good car, economical. It could use a middle console, but overall excellent and reliable, keeping up with Toyota's high standards.
