Toyota Tacoma problems

The Toyota Tacoma is a pickup truck manufactured by Japanese automobile manufacturer Toyota since 1995. The first-generation Tacoma (model years 1995 through 2004) was classified as a compact pickup. The second generation (model years 2005 through 2015) and third generation (in production since 2015) models are classified as mid-sized pickups. The Tacoma was Motor Trend's Truck of the Year for 2005.
As of 2015, the Tacoma was sold in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, Bolivia, Bermuda, and the French overseas collectivity of New Caledonia. Most markets across the world receive the Toyota Hilux in lieu of the Tacoma.
The name "Tacoma" was derived from the Coast Salish peoples' name for Mount Rainier in the U.S. state of Washington.

Toyota Tacoma 2023
- Date Of Incident: 2023-09-15
- Date Complaint: 2024-10-25
- VIN: 3TMDZ5BN4PM
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: This vehicle has had judder issues since new when braking. It has been in the shop over 10 times for this issue with the last being this week. I conducted an internet search and see other new owners complaining about the same issue with no resolve. I was told I would be getting new rotors and when I picked my vehicle up from Toyota of Las Vegas on 10/24/24, however, they are only resurfaced, not new. They have been resurfaced 3 times, with the first being performed around 500 miles. With other owners having the same issue when the vehicle is still new, it has to be a defect in the original part. Even though my vehicle is under warranty, Toyota has yet to change this part out. It is a safey issue because it causes judder, sometimes severe while braking. Lastly, my vehicle was one of the first to have the welding debris recall issue. My issue started long before that recall. As you can see, my vehicle has lived in Toyota service centers since purchase and it's getting old. I hope you all can please help. Thank you.
Toyota Tacoma 2019
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-22
- Date Complaint: 2024-10-24
- VIN: 5TFSZ5AN1KX
- Components: POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE
- Summary: The transmission cooling line in my 2019 Toyota Tacoma was never installed by an authorized repair shop following an accident. This critical component failure led to the transmission failing just 1.5 hours after I retrieved the vehicle from the shop. My safety was compromised, as the failure occurred while driving at highway speeds, without any warning lights or messages indicating an issue. The failure has been confirmed by the dealership (MotorWorld Toyota) currently inspecting my vehicle. The shop responsible for the initial repairs has taken liability for missing the installation of the transmission cooling line. My insurance company (GEICO) has been involved but is delaying total loss consideration. No warning lamps or messages appeared before or after the transmission failure, which is highly suspicious. This negligence has caused severe damage to a vital component of my vehicle, and I question the overall integrity of the repairs.
Toyota Tacoma 2009

- Summary: I just learned from my Mechanic that the Frame Corrosion is bad. The frame was inspected by Vanderstyne (now West Herr) Toyota on 06/20/2020. It passed the Inspection at that time, so they did not do anything. But within 4.5 years and only a little more than 6,000 miles driving since then - this corrosion shows up. I think the Toyota Specs for the Corrosion Inspection were not sufficient. Toyota should be held accountable for their negligence. I only have 72,900 miles on this Tacoma. I would have liked to keep it for another 5 years or so, but now I cannot and Toyota washed their hand when I contacted them.

- Summary: I have a 2015 Tacoma that has the super white (040) paint issues of flacking and peeling on around my windows, doors and engine bay as well has all painted metal surfaces seem to have lost its clear coat finish and now looks flat matte. These issues are described in both Toyota Customer Support Programs 23TE08 (2016-2022 Tacomas) and ZKG (Wide range of vehicles not including Tacomas); however, my truck is not included in either CSP. I would like to request that my vehicle year be included in the currently running Toyota Customer Programs for the Super White paint chip and pealing issues.

Toyota Tacoma 2021
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-12
- Date Complaint: 2024-10-16
- VIN: 5TFDZ5BN7MX
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: When stopping vehicle (for instance, at a stop light), vehicle would stop normally when pressing the brakes, but after a few seconds, the vehicle would start forward again. The brake pedal would give way and press down further, stopping briefly before starting forward again - so I had to use the emergency brake or else vehicle would move into oncoming traffic. I consulted a mechanic, and it was diagnosed as a bad brake master cylinder. This vehicle has only 51,000 miles on it, being a 2021 model. The brake pads themselves were checked and they are fine. I replaced the master cylinder and it fixed the issue, but I wouldn't expect this unsafe condition to already be happening to this vehicle, especially this early in life. Toyota must have defective brake master cylinders.

This truck is everything you've ever wanted in a car. It beautifully mixes aesthetics with utility. The interior is roomy and brilliantly outfitted - it doesn't even seem like a truck. The quality is impeccable. Truly, an amazing ride.

Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with my 2001 SR5 with a 5 speed and 2.4 liter motor. It has been my trusty work companion for a while now and I have to say, it has never let me down! Even when I have overloaded it to the point where it almost sat to the floor, it still kept going strong. I did have a bit of a mishap when the transmission blew at 59,900 due to excessive loading, but I drove it all the way to the dealership myself! They were amazed that I managed to get it there. Since then, I have had the transmission repaired and it has been able to handle even more abuse. The clutch only has 195,000 on it and it still works great for day to day hauling and the occasional red line shift just for fun. I absolutely love my truck and I highly recommend it!

Power is great! I recently traded in my Explorer with a V8 and the Tacoma feels like it has even more get up and go. I got the SR5 with chrome and TRD in white, and it looks really sharp.

I've been driving full-size trucks all my life, including a Chevy 1500 and an '06 Tundra. I have to say, my '06 Prerunner SR5 5-manual is a perfect 10 in every department. The 2.7L engine is top-notch and at times it feels like a race truck. The whole truck is strong, tight, and fast. It easily reaches 80 on the highway at just 1/4 throttle, and its short wheelbase makes for the smoothest city and freeway ride. While first gear is very short, once you start shifting through the gears, the top-end engine hits and the truck just pulls and pulls.

I bought my Prerunner new in 2004. Although it was tough to give up the size and the big V8 engine of my previous F-250, I have grown to love this truck. It has been incredibly reliable and has required very little maintenance over the years. The only issue I have had was with the power steering pump, which broke around 150K miles. However, I have no doubt that this truck will continue to serve me well as my main work and personal vehicle. I plan to keep driving it until it hits 350,000 miles, and I have every confidence that it will make it there with ease.

On my second day of owning my truck, I noticed a howling/whining sound between 50-60 mph and a gas pedal vibration that was quite irritating. The dealership found metal shavings in the rear differential and replaced it with a new one. Although the howling noise has improved, it is still present and at times I can hear it over the radio. The gas pedal vibration has also improved, but I am still not completely satisfied. I took it back to the dealership again, but unfortunately, there's nothing more they can do without Toyota's permission. I have a case opened with Toyota and I am hopeful for a resolution. The dealership had me test drive their other SR5 double cab long beds and although they all had similar issues, I appreciate their effort to help me. I have some concerns about my truck, but I am confident that Toyota will do their best to address the issue. In 2019, the rear shocks had to be replaced because they were leaking oil, even though I have never towed more than a row boat or gone off-roading. Although the rear diff howling is still present, I am hopeful that Toyota will recall the SR5s for this issue.

I really love my Toyota Tacoma! It's the first new car I've had that actually feels like a new car. It handles really well, but there are a few frustrating things that can be a bit of a nuisance. For example, the seats (which are Camry seats in a truck) are very uncomfortable and I've already had to replace the fabric twice (which I don't think is normal wear and tear). The foam inside the seats breaks down too quickly. Additionally, the headlights have had to be replaced 10 times each since 2003, which seems a bit extreme! The clear coat paint is also chipping off in random places, which is a shame. I had an aftermarket sunroof put in, and while some of the paint chipping is near the sunroof, other areas are not, so it's hard to say what's causing it. All that being said, I would seriously consider buying another Toyota product, especially the 2.4 liter turbo diesel HILUX if it were sold in the USA without sacrificing MPG. Thanks for listening!

Although the truck is comfortable and responsive to drive, it falls short in some important categories. The engine consumes a lot of fuel and lacks power, which is not well-matched to the transmission. The cruise control is not very user-friendly and tends to shift up and down on even the slightest incline. Additionally, the fuel tank is quite small considering the high fuel consumption rate of 13 liters per 100 km, which is much higher than my previous Colorado's rate of 8.7 liters per 100 km on the highway. The instrument panel could use more information and customization options, and the entertainment system is more complicated than necessary, which could be potentially dangerous. Lastly, the maintenance schedule seems to be designed to extract as much money as possible from the owner. I had an 85 Toyota for 25 years and loved it, but after only a few months with this truck, I'm already considering a new Colorado.

I purchased my brand new 2022 Toyota Tacoma in January of this year and have been living in it ever since. I wanted to wait a year before writing a review so that I could give an honest assessment. Here are some of the things I love about my Tacoma: the 4 wheel drive is fantastic, the rear locker is a great feature, and the off-road capabilities are amazing. I feel confident that I can handle any situation that comes my way when I'm off-roading. The safety tech package is also a great feature, with BSM, lane departure, and auto high beams making driving a breeze. The stereo system is top-notch and has all the latest technology for syncing your phone and more. However, there are a few things that I don't like about the Tacoma. For example, the oh shI bought my brand new 2022 Toyota Tacoma in January 2022. I decided to drive, live and be in my new Tacoma for a year before I put in a review, so I can give an honest review. Positives: I love the 4 wheel drive, my rear locker, and all the amazing off road features. When I go off road, I’m confident that I’ll be able to get out of most (maybe ANY) situation that befalls me. I love the safety tech package. BSM, lane departure and the auto high beams makes driving almost thoughtless. The stereo system is great with all the newest tech for syncing your phone and more. Now to what I don’t like:The oh sh$& handle on the passenger side makes zero sense. It’s located in the front on the right hand side of the passenger door. While off roading over rocks or anything bunny, there is no way to adequately hold onto the handle. If you do somehow grab the handle, it puts your arm in an awkward straight front position that will more likely assist in jamming your arm rather than help stabilize you. It is seriously a horribly thought out component for the Off Road trim.Mapping doesn’t come with your Tacoma tech package. Not a huge deal with being able to connect your phone, but with a button that says Map, but no way to install the feature without a trip to the dealership, it doesn’t make a lot of sense.I own a 96 Land Crusier, a 99 4Runner, and a 2006 Lexus. This Tacoma feels beyond cheap. It’s been one year and the panels aren’t flush with the vehicle, specifically the driver side panel closest to the floor. I keep the back seats down so I can use the back as a type of trunk. I only have transported groceries, but there are scratch marks on the plastic that should be way more durable for a $45,000 truck. My biggest gripe of the Tacoma are the seats. The drivers seat is fully automatic, but the passenger seat is fully manual. Another way Toyota cheaper out. My drives seat is beyond uncomfortable . handle on the passenger side is poorly placed and doesn't make sense. It's located in the front on the right-hand side of the passenger door, which makes it difficult to hold onto when off-roading over rocks or anything bumpy. The mapping feature also doesn't come with the Tacoma tech package, which is a bit of a letdown. Additionally, the panels on the vehicle aren't flush, specifically the driver's side panel closest to the floor. The plastic in the back of the truck is also not as durable as I would have hoped, as there are already scratch marks from transporting groceries. Finally, the seats are a bit of a disappointment. The driver's seat is fully automatic, but the passenger seat is fully manual, which seems like a cost-cutting measure. Overall, I still love my Tacoma, but there are definitely some areas for improvement.I have owned Toyotas all my life and recently purchased a Tacoma. However, I found that the comfort level was not up to par, especially for road trips. Although I was excited about getting a new Toyota, I was disappointed with the lack of attention to detail in this particular model. This is in contrast to my previous experiences with Toyota, where I have always been satisfied with the quality and longevity of their vehicles. I hope that my concerns are addressed and that this truck proves to be as reliable as my previous Toyotas.

I have owned every generation of Tacoma and have always loved it. Unfortunately, my experience with the 2019 Tacoma 2.7L has been disappointing. The engine feels severely underpowered and the transmission shifts frequently. Additionally, the fuel efficiency is worse than before and there are many cheap plastic components. While the security features such as the collision radar and lane sensor may seem like marketing gimmicks, I believe that the ultimate safety assurance comes from the driver. The only positive aspect of the 2019 Tacoma that I can think of is its looks. Overall, I am very disappointed.
