Toyota Tacoma problems

The Toyota Tacoma is a pickup truck manufactured by Japanese automobile manufacturer Toyota since 1995. The first-generation Tacoma (model years 1995 through 2004) was classified as a compact pickup. The second generation (model years 2005 through 2015) and third generation (in production since 2015) models are classified as mid-sized pickups. The Tacoma was Motor Trend's Truck of the Year for 2005.
As of 2015, the Tacoma was sold in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, Bolivia, Bermuda, and the French overseas collectivity of New Caledonia. Most markets across the world receive the Toyota Hilux in lieu of the Tacoma.
The name "Tacoma" was derived from the Coast Salish peoples' name for Mount Rainier in the U.S. state of Washington.

Toyota Tacoma 2023
- Date Of Incident: 2023-09-15
- Date Complaint: 2024-10-25
- VIN: 3TMDZ5BN4PM
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: This vehicle has had judder issues since new when braking. It has been in the shop over 10 times for this issue with the last being this week. I conducted an internet search and see other new owners complaining about the same issue with no resolve. I was told I would be getting new rotors and when I picked my vehicle up from Toyota of Las Vegas on 10/24/24, however, they are only resurfaced, not new. They have been resurfaced 3 times, with the first being performed around 500 miles. With other owners having the same issue when the vehicle is still new, it has to be a defect in the original part. Even though my vehicle is under warranty, Toyota has yet to change this part out. It is a safey issue because it causes judder, sometimes severe while braking. Lastly, my vehicle was one of the first to have the welding debris recall issue. My issue started long before that recall. As you can see, my vehicle has lived in Toyota service centers since purchase and it's getting old. I hope you all can please help. Thank you.
Toyota Tacoma 2019
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-22
- Date Complaint: 2024-10-24
- VIN: 5TFSZ5AN1KX
- Components: POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE
- Summary: The transmission cooling line in my 2019 Toyota Tacoma was never installed by an authorized repair shop following an accident. This critical component failure led to the transmission failing just 1.5 hours after I retrieved the vehicle from the shop. My safety was compromised, as the failure occurred while driving at highway speeds, without any warning lights or messages indicating an issue. The failure has been confirmed by the dealership (MotorWorld Toyota) currently inspecting my vehicle. The shop responsible for the initial repairs has taken liability for missing the installation of the transmission cooling line. My insurance company (GEICO) has been involved but is delaying total loss consideration. No warning lamps or messages appeared before or after the transmission failure, which is highly suspicious. This negligence has caused severe damage to a vital component of my vehicle, and I question the overall integrity of the repairs.
Toyota Tacoma 2009

- Date Complaint: 2024-10-24

- Summary: I just learned from my Mechanic that the Frame Corrosion is bad. The frame was inspected by Vanderstyne (now West Herr) Toyota on 06/20/2020. It passed the Inspection at that time, so they did not do anything. But within 4.5 years and only a little more than 6,000 miles driving since then - this corrosion shows up. I think the Toyota Specs for the Corrosion Inspection were not sufficient. Toyota should be held accountable for their negligence. I only have 72,900 miles on this Tacoma. I would have liked to keep it for another 5 years or so, but now I cannot and Toyota washed their hand when I contacted them.

Toyota Tacoma 2021
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-12
- Date Complaint: 2024-10-16
- VIN: 5TFDZ5BN7MX
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: When stopping vehicle (for instance, at a stop light), vehicle would stop normally when pressing the brakes, but after a few seconds, the vehicle would start forward again. The brake pedal would give way and press down further, stopping briefly before starting forward again - so I had to use the emergency brake or else vehicle would move into oncoming traffic. I consulted a mechanic, and it was diagnosed as a bad brake master cylinder. This vehicle has only 51,000 miles on it, being a 2021 model. The brake pads themselves were checked and they are fine. I replaced the master cylinder and it fixed the issue, but I wouldn't expect this unsafe condition to already be happening to this vehicle, especially this early in life. Toyota must have defective brake master cylinders.

This is an amazing truck! It has never let me down, even in heavy snow in upstate NY or on Florida beaches. I have driven it for over 100,000 miles and it still performs flawlessly. If you're in the market for a mid-size truck, I highly recommend giving the Tacoma a test drive. The only things I wish it had were heated mirrors and a remote starter. I recently had it serviced and it's running like a dream. The gas mileage has gone down a bit, but I found that cleaning the internal air filter and removing some debris from the glove compartment helped improve the A/C. In 2020, I replaced the battery and two turn signal bulbs, but otherwise, it's still going strong. This is a super reliable truck that I'm about to take on a 5,000 mile trip!

The Toyota Tacoma is a fantastic truck! It's so quiet that hunters have been amazed by how it can approach their camps without being noticed. The interior is also very easy to keep clean and looks like new after a quick vacuum and wipe down. Additionally, the fuel economy is great for a pick-up. As an owner of my first Toyota, I am a true believer in the quality and reliability of this vehicle.

This is my third Toyota Pickup. I absolutely love these trucks! They keep improving them with each new model. The height of the truck makes it feel like a full-size truck, but its handling and maneuverability let you know it's compact. I especially love the composite bed. The power and acceleration in their 4-cylinder engines are better than many 6-cylinders out there. Toyota really knows how to build engines! As long as you keep up with the oil changes, you shouldn't have any problems with Toyotas. One thing I've noticed is that the truck runs so smoothly and quietly on the highway that I sometimes forget to shift out of third gear (not really a bad thing, I guess). I highly recommend this truck to all my friends!

I was delighted to find a pickup that handles like a car and has comparable gas mileage, and the Tacoma fits the bill perfectly. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that this trim level (SR5) comes with air conditioning, a stereo, and cruise control. While it takes some getting used to, the rear-end skip is the only downside to an otherwise well-handling vehicle. I also found that highway mileage greatly improves with the tailgate down (or off).

I bought the TRD access cab. My wife and I like to bike and canoe. This truck fits our lifestyle perfectly. I had a 4 door tundra (too big and looked and operated clumsy). The Tacoma, however, looks incredible and feels and handles very smooth. I park it in the garage and just look at it. I would highly recommend it.

Before you decide to purchase a Tacoma, I would like to share my experience with you. As someone who has realistic expectations with a product, I have been patient and understanding with my brand new truck. However, I have lost faith in Toyota due to the numerous warranty issues I have faced. Over the past year, I have had to make multiple trips to AutoNation in Denver, which is over 1.5 hours away from my home, for 7 different issues. Each time, I had to wait for my vehicle for up to 7 hours, resulting in wasted time, gas, and time off work. This has also caused a substantial decrease in the market value of my truck and has caused me severe frustration and sleepless nights. The issues I have faced include problems with the clutch pedal, door seals, shifter boot, navigation head unit, headrest, and low 4-wheel drive. Despite addressing each issue separately, my truck still does not operate like a Tacoma should. The most severe issue is a clunk sound and feel that occurs after coming to a stop, which feels like someone hit me from behind.Toyota mechanics have taken steps to fix the issue, including replacing the entire drive shaft and troubleshooting the electrical connectors at the transfer case. However, after a year, Toyota's representative is claiming that the 'clunk' is a normal characteristic. Despite this, two lead technicians, one of whom has been a mechanic for 26 years with Toyota, have recognized this as a defect and have taken steps to eliminate the 'clunk'. At one dealership, the service manager sat in the car to experience the 'clunk' and was shocked that this was happening to a brand new truck. He apologized and spent time trying to diagnose and fix the issue. When Toyota's representative inspected the vehicle, they claimed that all Tacomas in this model experience the same 'clunk'. However, other Tacoma owners with the same model have expressed their disbelief as their vehicles do not exhibit this 'normal characteristic'. It is unclear why a Toyota technician of 26 years did not recognize this before replacing the entire drive shaft to try and fix the issue. Additionally, why wouldn't the service manager or lead technician, in a totally separate dealership, recognize this as abnormal when they work on Tacomas daily? Today, I attempted to contact Toyota one last time to see if they would replace the fuel tank with one that doesn't allow fuel to build momentum when I come to a stop. Unfortunately, they declined, indicating that because the Field Technician deems this a normal characteristic, they would not be willing to address this issue any longer. I want to caution you before you decide to buy a Toyota. I never thought in my wildest dreams that Toyota, of all companies, would try to scam people into buying a model with known issues and then take the stance that these are

Vehicle year: 2016
I have owned several Tacoma trucks, including my current 2010, which I absolutely love. Recently, I discovered the new 2016 model during a visit to the dealer for a service department. Although I wasn't initially interested in upgrading, I decided to take a quick test drive and was impressed by what I saw. The interior and exterior redesign were particularly appealing. I ordered a Limited and waited several months for it to arrive. However, after doing some research and reading reviews, I began to have some concerns. Despite this, I was still excited when the truck finally arrived at the end of January. Before taking delivery, I asked the dealer if I could take it on an extended test drive. During the test drive, which lasted over an hour and covered both city and highway speeds, I noticed a few issues that confirmed some of the reviews I had read. The engine was underpowered and worked too hard on the highway, the transmission shifting was poor, and the engine was loud and coarse. Additionally, the brakes pulsated with normal light braking, and there was a strong, high-frequency buzz that transmitted through the steering wheel, pedals, and seats at certain acceleration points on side roads and at highway speeds. I could even hear the buzzing vibration rattle the interior components. Unfortunately, these issues were deal-breakers for me. I thought that perhaps these were isolated problems on that truck, so the dealership let me take another Limited out for a spin. However, I encountered the same problems on that one too! When I raised my concerns with the dealership, they explained that these issues were normal and that they were selling like hotcakes, so they must not bother everyone. Although I was disappointed, I decided to walk away from the deal and get my deposit back. I will continue to hang on to my 2010 for another year or so and hope that Toyota will address these issues in future models.

I recently purchased a 2019 Tacoma limited edition and was thrilled until I noticed a loud howling noise coming from the rear end at around 2500 miles. I took it to the dealer, who I must say provided excellent service, and they inspected the rear end as well as test drove the vehicle. The dealer acknowledged the howling noise and informed me that they test drove two new Tacoma's off their lot and they both had howling rear ends. The dealer deemed it normal, but I was still concerned. I was disappointed with Toyota's lack of concern for the issue, but I do not blame the dealer. I was hesitant to take the vehicle on any trips, which was the main reason I purchased it, due to the rear end noise. I was afraid it would strand me and my family. However, I am happy to report that the rear end is now quiet as a church mouse. The dealership (Toyota of Bowling Green, KY) was awesome and it only took a few weeks for the Toyota of BG manager (who provided excellent customer service) to talk to Toyota's engineers and get the ball rolling. They replaced the rear differential and now all is well. Despite the initial problem with the rear end, it was taken care of properly and in a timely manner. I am very happy with my 19 Taco Limited and the dealership. 👍👍

I purchased my 2010 Tacoma in CNY and unfortunately, I was disappointed from day one. The vehicle had a large scratch with only 179 miles on it, which was not a good sign. Although the dealer fixed it, I still had major complaints. The radio seemed to be very low and I had to turn the volume up to 50 just to hear it with the window down. The handling was not great and there was a constant noise when the van or heat was turned on. Later, I found out that it was a recall and Toyota did not inform me even after I complained. The gas mileage was also disappointing, averaging only 16 mpg while driving. Additionally, the vehicle was not very comfortable for someone who is 6'00 tall. As a result, I sold it after only 2 years and 25,000 miles. However, I must say that I also own a 2005 Toyota 4runner which is the best vehicle I have ever owned.

I own two 2010 Tacoma 4x4's, one being a 4-door SR5 and the other an access cab with the TRD package. While the 4-door is a great truck and runs quietly, my TRD truck has a significant amount of road noise, making it difficult to use a Bluetooth device. Despite being essentially the same vehicle, the difference in quality between the two is surprising. Although my TRD truck runs well and has no mechanical issues, the excessive road noise is disappointing.
