POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-10-22
  • VIN: 5TFSZ5AN1KX
  • Components: POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE
  • Summary: The transmission cooling line in my 2019 Toyota Tacoma was never installed by an authorized repair shop following an accident. This critical component failure led to the transmission failing just 1.5 hours after I retrieved the vehicle from the shop. My safety was compromised, as the failure occurred while driving at highway speeds, without any warning lights or messages indicating an issue. The failure has been confirmed by the dealership (MotorWorld Toyota) currently inspecting my vehicle. The shop responsible for the initial repairs has taken liability for missing the installation of the transmission cooling line. My insurance company (GEICO) has been involved but is delaying total loss consideration. No warning lamps or messages appeared before or after the transmission failure, which is highly suspicious. This negligence has caused severe damage to a vital component of my vehicle, and I question the overall integrity of the repairs.

LANE DEPARTURE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-07-15
  • VIN: 3TMDZ5BN3KM
  • Components: LANE DEPARTURE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
  • Summary: This describes false alarms by the vehicle electronics. About once every four to six months, the center display on the dash says, "BRAKE," and a Sonalert-type steady beep comes out of the dash. This happens with cruise control on. In two cases, there was no vehicle in front of me on the road. I could not see any source of radio signal or radar interference (EMI) in the area or nearby. In one case, there were no vehicles nearby, no weather or other radars nearby, only a television translator station about two miles away. The brakes may have been applied in some cases but generally are not. Weather has been sunny and clear in every case when this occurs. So far as I can tell, these are random false alarms with no apparent EMI cause. They seem to be getting less frequent. I get frequent and reproducible lane departure warnings with certain "fog line" configurations used in my state or with random tire skid marks.

POWER TRAIN,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-07-16
  • VIN: 3TMCZ5AN6KM
  • Components: POWER TRAIN,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: This 2019 truck feels like it just doesn’t want to go. It struggles to go up ANY hill no matter how small. The engine jumps feels like it’s got a heart beat while riding. The gas mileage is horrendous and awful the 2015 was all around a better truck I read somewhere that Toyota recalled a bunch of 2019 trucks for a gas line rip was causing fires and whatever else. I thought for sure it had to be my trucks issue bc that would absolutely explain why it’s running so weird and ragged. The poor thing … I’m very worried about it.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-09-29
  • VIN: 3TMAZ5CN8KM
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
  • Summary: I currently own a 2019 Tacoma with around 70,000 miles on it. I keep up with all the Toyota recommended maintenance services to make sure my vehicle is well taken care of. So, while driving the vehicle on the interstate it drastically slowed down on its own and I could not get the gas pedal to engage almost causing a rear end collision. This also happened on two other occasions at lower speeds. My display stated I was having issues with ABS, Collision, and that I was pressing the gas pedal and break at the same time. My vehicle has been at the dealership for 4 days now with no resolve or any answers to why the vehicle is slowing down on its own. I feel the vehicle is a health/safety issue and I will not drive it until the issue is resolved. The computer was also flashed by Toyota a year earlier as I was experiencing a lag in engine engagement and high rpm's when the vehicle shifted from first to second gear. Something the tech noted he experienced driving it. It's also an issue I've had since purchasing the vehicle. I had to bring the vehicle back a month later as it started doing the same thing but was told they could not find any issues. I have found many other forums and spoke with other Tacoma owners who have had similar issues. I feel Toyota is definitely aware of the issues but not addressing them! I hope to get some answers soon!

Toyota dealer inspected the truck and checked for recalls which Toyota has on earlier white vehicles but stated this vehicle was not in the year or vin range of affected vehicles. I have checked online and multiple owners of white Toyota Tacomas are having the same issue and appears to be trucks built at their Mexico plant.

SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-12-16
  • VIN: 5TFAX5GN0KX
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
  • Summary: My car while driving every so often miles will have the abs light go on with the traction control light and the amb symbol going off. When plugged into device at auto zone code C1422 stating the master cylinder pressure sensor zero point high. I’ve tried replacing the break light switch which is a common repair for people with that problem I’ve checked all harness and wiring all is intact and undamaged/ no water damage. When I look up my vin number in kellybluebooks website a recall appears for a brake master cylinder recall for improper machining of the brake master master cylinder. Which will cause internal damage of one of the seals, affecting brake performance. It affected 44121 of vehicles of my year. But when looked up in this website and Toyota no recalls appear which is strange. The defect it has when the abs light and etc. lights go off is it will force the car to stop moving by locking the brake system and smoking out the calipers till brought to 0mph which is very dangerous when operating in the freeway as cars behind my aren’t expecting a sudden stop. The repair is to replace the whole master cylinder. Which Toyota would want me to pay but it should be a defect from a recall.

  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES

STRUCTURE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-05-01
  • VIN: 3TMAZ5CNXKM
  • Components: STRUCTURE
  • Summary: Toyota has a campaign to address white paint flaking/chipping on numerous vehicles, with the exception of Tacomas. My truck is a 2019 with 34k miles and the paint is chipping and flaking off. This is a known problem with this paint, so I am not sure why they don't address it with Tacomas. I would like Toyota to take care of this for me. It is not fair for me to pay out of pocket to address a defect in their paint.

TIRES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-05-15
  • VIN: 5TFSZ5AN6KX
  • Components: TIRES
  • Summary: A severe crack formed around the full circumference of tire near where the sidewall joins to the tread. The tire started leaking air and the severe crack was found while mounting the spare tire. The crack was present on the inside of the tire and therefore not visible until the wheel was removed. This crack was on its way to a catastrophic failure of the tire. The crack was found at 23500 miles on a tire with claimed treadlife of 60,000. This was the tire sold with my new 2019 Tacoma: Goodyear Wrangler AT Adventure with Kevlar 265/70R16. The Toyota dealership said to take the problem to GY but GY has no recall on this tire and I do not want any new GY tire if offered a replacement.

POWER TRAIN,ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-04-12
  • VIN: 5TFCZ5AN5KX
  • Components: POWER TRAIN,ENGINE
  • Summary: The engine part “Coolant bypass joint” failed, started leaking coolant at 44k miles, because it was made of inferior plastic material, unlike the same part used in the same 3.5L V6 engines in the Lexus vehicles, which are made of aluminum. This is a widespread failure since 2016 model years, and Toyota refused change the design or manufacturing material of the part, or to repair it under warranty. The part number for this failed part is 16356-31051.

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-03-18
  • VIN: 3TMCZ5AN3KM
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: I was at a stop light and when the light turn green I started driving forward and the ABS/ Brake lights on instrument cluster came on with repeated blinking. I slowed off the gas to apply the brakes. Brake pedal went to the floor with no brakes or slowing down at all. Luckily no one was in front of me and I had to pull the emergency brake. It was the only brakes I had at all. Once vehicle was towed to the nearest Toyota Dealer I had them diagnose the problem. Right rear wheel had leaked out fluid due to the rear brake cylinder failing. Upon repair of all brake pads, rotors, brake shoes, brake drums, both rear brake cylinders the problem was still an issue. Costly amounts of money already being spent to find out another failure with the Brake Master Cylinder/ Module. That part alone is also very expensive. Research has shown that the 2018 and 2019 Toyota Tacoma’s did have history of faulty brakes in turn possibly causing an accident. For my case on the road I was lucky. I can’t understand a loyal customer of years with Toyota that the company refuses any sort of aid and assistance in the matter. Why did the recalls end? Especially if this affected not just the 2018 model but the 2019 model like my Tacoma as well. For such low miles and no abuse this vehicle has faced other failures not only with the brakes alone. Vehicle is still with the Dealer at this time. Requesting some assistance in the matter please. Thank you!

STEERING PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-02-27
  • VIN: 3TMCZ5AN4KM
  • Components: STEERING
  • Summary: Hello, my name is Andrew I have a 2019 Tacoma TRD Sport 4WD. I have roughly 78,000 miles on my truck as it is still fairly new and has never been in a wreck. I have so rattling noises coming from my front end, and I have taken it to Toyota and other shops to figure out if something was loose, and the response is my steering is about to go out, at first, I am like what its still a new truck never seen the dirt and never has pulled a camper or trailer in its life. So my question is why is my Steering Rack, and or the Rack and Pinion going out so early on a truck that is treated like a child? I haven't had insurance involved because I am hoping this is a defect and it can be fixed or resolved as it is a part that should be replaced in its safety. I just had a recall on my 3rd brake, that doesn't concern me as much as this. Knocking, and grinding when turning going forward, and in reverse. I at first thought it was my lower control arms, and they are saying steering and the truck is not even 3 years old. Please help me and others get this issue resolved as the part is going out sooner than i would think a new truck steering component should.

Negative 2019 Toyota Tacoma car reviews

I recently purchased a 2020 Tacoma TRD Sport with the JBL Premium Sound system. Although I have only driven about 6k miles, I have noticed that the auto transmission can be a bit of a nuisance as it constantly searches for the right gear. However, my biggest disappointment is with the JBL sound system. Despite paying extra for the upgrade, the sound quality is not up to par. It is difficult to hear the music when driving at highway speeds or with the windows down, and even Bluetooth calls are a struggle to hear at max volume. As someone who values good music quality, this is a major letdown. Unfortunately, this experience has left me feeling disappointed and I am unsure if I will purchase another Toyota in the future.

As someone who has driven Tacomas for over a million miles as a contractor and wilderness guide, I have a deep appreciation for their quality. However, I must say that this particular vehicle, while bearing the Tacoma nameplate, falls short of my expectations. It has some design flaws that make it less than ideal for my needs. For example, the 4x4 shift is a digital dial that feels flimsy and cheap. The transmission can be a bit unpredictable and underpowered, making it difficult to tow or accelerate quickly. Additionally, the 4x4 function can be slow to engage or disengage, which can be frustrating. Despite these issues, I believe that this vehicle could still be a good fit for some drivers, depending on their needs and preferences. This truck has some limitations. It can't go above 2k in 4L, and it won't upshift unless you hit higher speed. Unfortunately, it may not be suitable for heavy work. The bed holds exactly eight dozen standard chicken eggs, which is 24x24 inches, and approximately 6 inches deep. The tailgate has fancy hydraulic descent control so that it can't bang open in your driveway. The interior is made of plastic, but it has touch screens which are nice. If you're looking for a work vehicle, you may want to consider other options. However, if you're looking for a shiny toy truck, this might be the rig for you. If you want an actual Tacoma with all of its incredible glory, you may want to consider buying the nicest 2004 you can find. It's the last year they made a truck worth the name, and those are truly great vehicles. We hope that Toyota will make a real Tacoma again soon.Good luck! I hope this helps you avoid any headaches with these fake 'trucks'.

I recently test drove this truck for the weekend to see if it was a good fit for me. Unfortunately, I didn't enjoy the experience as much as I had hoped. The V6 model felt underpowered and it burned a lot of gas. Perhaps a V8 engine would have made a difference, but at the current price point, I don't think it's worth it. In my opinion, this truck may not be the best option for those looking for a powerful and fuel-efficient vehicle.

  4. Rudolph Gulgowski 2024-05-16

As a first-time Tacoma owner, I found the ride to be quite hard and the seats to be uncomfortable. Additionally, the seat adjustment mechanism could be improved. However, the truck's powerful engine and attractive appearance make it a reliable choice for navigating tight spots. Overall, while there is room for improvement, I am satisfied with my purchase and would recommend it to others.

Positive 2019 Toyota Tacoma car reviews

I've driven my 2019 TRD Sport 4WD Access Cab, made in Texas, for 10,000 miles now. After test-driving the 4-cylinder, I opted for the V6, as I couldn't believe any company would do that to such a nice looking vehicle. While the V6 drivetrain is adequate, it's also unrefined, as the engine/transmission is set up for gas mileage rather than smooth driving or acceleration. However, I can live with that, and the ECT button can be helpful for better shift points and more power. I haven't experienced most of the complaints from other reviewers, but I do have two gripes. Firstly, the cheap interior control knobs feel like they could break at any moment, which doesn't inspire confidence. Secondly, the acceleration could be better, as I mentioned earlier. The brakes could also be smoother. On the plus side, I appreciate the appropriate rather than aggressive Safety Sense, and I'm a fan of the rugged good looks that many people buy Tacomas for.

I have a 2019 4 door A/T SR5 3.5l 4WD with stock suspension and tires. As of today, it has 10,100k. I must admit, I drive like a maniac on 4x4 trails, but it handles it like a champ in summer weather. It's also my daily commuter. It's a shame there's no ashtray, but I put my own in. The horsepower is impressive, as it can easily handle an 18% grade on a local major highway at 65+ mph without any issues. I've even used it to haul other vehicles up to the top of roads that have broken down or gotten stuck (Jeep drivers... LOL). I've been a loyal Yotas owner for 8 years now. I'm aware of the Otto/Atkinson engine, and it does take about 1.5 seconds of having the gas pedal on the floor to react, but once it's calculated, nothing stops it. I will say it's often very cold up here, and the double oil cooler means it takes the engine 18+ minutes to get warm enough to send hot steady air, so make sure to bring an ice scraper. If there was a sensor connected to the engine temp that only cycled the oil through the double cooler system when the engine is already warm, that would help dearly with this. My kids and dog love the 4 doors, as there's plenty of cab room for at least what I have to do in the truck (drive in it). I don't really care about the bells and whistles, as it's all about the engine, transmission, suspension, and drive train for me. I haven't had a single issue yet. GO YOTA!

TRD Pro enhancements turn a solid performer into a Best in Class must-have. I have owned a 2016 Tacoma 4x4 Sport, a 2017 Tundra Limited, a Toyota FJ Cruiser Trail Team edition, and too many Lexus to count, but my 2019 Tacoma TRD Pro is one amazing truck. After just one month of ownership, I could not be more satisfied. The MPG's are saving me a huge amount from my gas expense on my Tundra. I highly recommend getting the PRO, it's worth the extra dough, and you will not be disappointed.

I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying your truck! It sounds like you made a wise choice with the 4 cylinder model, which has a reputation for being very reliable. I also appreciate the simplicity of the old school key and the lack of complicated climate control. The interior sounds really nice and comfortable, with just the right amount of options. It's a shame that there's no key lock on the passenger side, but overall it still sounds like a great truck. Thanks for sharing your experience!

  5. Marcel Monahan 2024-10-07

I test drove a Toyota Tacoma Limited and had a great time! It was everything I thought it would be. While the backseat legroom was a little cramped for my liking, there is a wide variety of interiors and truck types to choose from, as well as lots of accessories. Safety seems to be a huge priority with the Tacoma, and I felt very safe and aware of my surroundings while driving.
