The Toyota Tacoma is a pickup truck manufactured by Japanese automobile manufacturer Toyota since 1995. The first-generation Tacoma (model years 1995 through 2004) was classified as a compact pickup. The second generation (model years 2005 through 2015) and third generation (in production since 2015) models are classified as mid-sized pickups. The Tacoma was Motor Trend's Truck of the Year for 2005.

As of 2015, the Tacoma was sold in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, Bolivia, Bermuda, and the French overseas collectivity of New Caledonia. Most markets across the world receive the Toyota Hilux in lieu of the Tacoma.

The name "Tacoma" was derived from the Coast Salish peoples' name for Mount Rainier in the U.S. state of Washington.

Common 2015 Toyota Tacoma problems

The Toyota Tacoma 2015 is known for several common problems based on complaints from owners.

Another common problem is rusted frames, particularly in cold climate states. Some owners have reported rusted frames, but dealers have claimed that the warranty coverage has expired. Toyota has launched customer support programs and limited service campaigns, such as ZKA and K0D, to address frame corrosion for the 2011-2017 Tacoma in cold climate states. However, these programs were in early stages at the time of the search. If you are considering buying a used Toyota Tacoma, it is crucial to have the frame carefully inspected for rust and other damage by a mechanic while the truck is on the lift. Rust might be hidden, so a simple visual inspection will not be enough.

Weak rear leaf springs are another common complaint in the Toyota Tacoma 2015. Toyota issued Safety Recall E02 for certain model year 2005-2011 Tacoma Pre-Runner and 4x4 vehicles to replace rear leaf spring assemblies. The rear leaf springs tend to squeak when driving over bumps due to leaves rubbing against each other, often caused by worn-out or missing spacers. Toyota issued T-SB-0274-09 for the 2005-2009 Tacoma, recommending installing updated leaf spring silencer pads. If you are buying a used Tacoma, be cautious of a sagging rear end, which may indicate a weak spring. When looking at the back of the truck, you may notice that one of the sides sits lower, pointing to a weak spring.

Faulty air/fuel ratio sensors (A/F sensors) are also a known issue in the 4.0L V6 engine of the Toyota Tacoma 2015. These sensors can fail, causing issues with the engine's performance and fuel efficiency.

Premature ball joint wear is another problem reported in the Toyota Tacoma 2015. This issue can lead to a rough ride, steering problems, and increased wear on other suspension components.

Lastly, transmission problems have been reported in some Tacoma models, particularly in vehicles that have surpassed a certain high-mileage point.

It is essential to address these common problems promptly to ensure the longevity and safety of the Toyota Tacoma 2015. Regular maintenance and inspections can help identify and prevent these issues.

  • VIN: 3tmlu4en4fm
  • Components: WHEELS
  • Summary: I purchased this vehicle from CarMax in South Sacramento. Before I purchased this vehicle, I asked that the tires be replaced with new as they are original to the vehicle, and there are indications of their being aged, cracked tread, and missing tread on these tires. These tires appear to be the original tires that were purchased when this vehicle was new. The lf tire is reading at 8/32 to the center/and outer tread, the lr tire is reading is 8/32 to the center, and outer tread, the right rear tire is reading 8/32 to the center/and outer tread, and the rf tire is reading 8/32 to the center/and outer tread. The salesman advised that these tires would be replaced with new if I brought them into their service dept after purchasing the vehicle. I was able to bring it back within 3 days, and the CarMax Dealer General Manager, and Service Department manager feels that these tires are safe to drive. I did discuss that these are aged, cracked, and missing tread, and that there is a slight vibration when driving under speed of 75 - 80 mph, and that these tires are unsafe due to their conditions of being aged, cracked, and missing tread, and they refused to replace with new. These tires in my opinion are very unsafe to drive, and this is why I am reporting the conditions to you. They keep mentioning the fact that they are compliant to your standards, and are not in agreeance with their initial advice to bring the vehicle in to have them replaced with new because of their age/and their unsafe condition.

My truck suddenly took off on its own hitting another vehicle at high speed a few inches away to my right. From police report later it appeared 5 other vehicles were hit. Mine was towed to a city lot and retrieved by my insurance company and totalled.I had fractured mid left clavicle and was put in ambulance to ER. No other injuries I’m aware of to any persons. It occurred a few days prior but in a parking lot with nothing in front of me to crash into so I had time to think to step on brake and move auto transmission to park or neutral. No other times did it occur to me. My husband also drove truck and coincidentally had 3 backup accidents in a row backing out of a parking space. First time that type of accident had happened to him.I told everyone what happened but I couldn’t see witnesses or exchange information because my pain was too severe. According to what I heard others saying or what was written I wasn’t believed. They tricked me once I got to ER and locked me on psych ward like I was suicidal but I never told anyone I was. I think they wanted to keep me in hospital longer for the money because they did nothing but an X-ray and I went the entire night with no pain medicine right after radiologist told me that clavicle fracture is the most painful kind of fracture.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-09-04
  • VIN: 3TMMU4FN5FM
  • Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING
  • Summary: In the Winter of 2020, we stopped at Walmart to get a new light headlight for the Toyota 2015 Tacoma Truck and it was hard to put it in and THEN the Retainer Spring Clip fell out and was lost. No where to be found! Also the Gasket to the Headlight fell too and was lost. It stayed loose for a while and the Truck didn't pass its Annual Safety Inspection for 2021 because of the Headlight not staying in in September. This last Friday, October 8, 2021 I went to Oursiman Toyota in Chantilly, VA to order the Gasket and pick it up on Saturday, October 9, 2021 thinking that that was all I needed and I could fix the part and the Headlight/Lamp. I didn't relaize that the Retainer Spring Clip didn't come with it and when I called back to Oursiman Toyota today, Monday, October 11, 2021 the Parts Service Guy said I had to order the entire Headlight Assembly to get the Retainer Spring Clip. After doing some research on-line it SEEMS that the majority of people who own a Toyota Tacoma Truck have been having the same issue for many many years as I found out today, Monday, October 11, 2021 at the Web Site, tacomaworld.com. ALSO it is a Safety Issue for your State Safety Inspection for the State of Virginia. I went to Pohanka Chevrolet last week to get an Oil Change and asked them to fix the light BUT they wouldn't touch or fix it either. The Part that holds the Headlight Lamp Assembly is flimsy and doesn't do justice. Corporate Toyota won't or hasn't addressed this issue. They are forcing people to buy the entire Headlight when that isn't the part they need. This is a safety issue! This doesn't serve the public for keeping their car in shape or compliant with State Safety Regulations. There should be a CLASS ACTION SUIT on behalf of the Owners of Toyota Tacoma Trucks the date ranges from the discussion group are various but the Model year my son has is 2015. Negative 2015 Toyota Tacoma car reviews

  1. Richie Huel 2024-09-29

Hey there! So sorry to hear about your experience with your 2015 4x4 Tacoma truck. It sounds like you had a pretty rough time with it. I hope you're okay! It's definitely frustrating when things don't go as planned, especially when it comes to something you're passionate about like off-roading. Thanks for sharing your experience with us. Take care!

  2. Federico O'Conner 2024-09-23

Hey there! Have you considered purchasing a Tundra? It's a great choice!

  3. Marcos Hill 2024-08-24

This vehicle may not be the most powerful, but it still gets the job done. While it may not have all the bells and whistles, it is reliable and has great resale value. I even used the resale value to upgrade to a 2019 F-150! Toyota is known for their reliability and I am grateful for that.

  4. Dewayne McGlynn 2024-01-04

Comparing my 2010 Ford Focus to my 2015 Tacoma may not make sense, but I'm just comparing the technology. After all, a newer vehicle should have newer and better technology, right? My Focus had some great features like automatic locking doors over 15MPH, a display of MPG, how many miles till empty, which door was left ajar, and which tire was under deflated, an almost fully lit door controls panel to include lock/unlock and all four windows, outside temperature, and a compass. Although my 2015 Tacoma doesn't have any of those features, it does have a center touch screen that is really useful for the backup camera. However, I do wish it had more features like my old car. For example, it would be great to have a display of outside temperature and a compass, and a lock for the truck bed. Overall, I'm happy with my Tacoma, but I do miss some of the features from my old car. By the way, I think SYNC by Microsoft is a better voice recognition/command program.

I've owned several Toyotas over the years and I must say, I'm really impressed with this one! Mine is a 2wd SR5. If you're considering the 4 cyl, just remember that it's a 4 cyl, not a V-6! Despite that, I'm getting an impressive 28mpg on the highway with 15

4x4 v6, no other truck has performed better than my 2015 Tacoma. I have owned an F150 and an F250 before, but the Tacoma is the best truck your money can buy. It comes with a warranty too!

Great value! I totally agree with you about the second generation Tacoma, but I'm not a fan of the new ones either.

I really like the Tacoma, but unfortunately, my wife and I have had some concerns during our visits to the dealer. Specifically, my wife has mentioned that the driver's seat cannot be raised, which makes it uncomfortable for her to drive due to her height. Additionally, she has expressed disappointment with the quality of the seats, which she feels do not match the price point of the truck. We hope that Toyota can address these issues so that we can confidently make a purchase.
