The vehicle's name is an abbreviation of "Recreational Active Vehicle with 4-wheel drive", or "Robust Accurate Vehicle with 4-wheel drive", although not all models come equipped with the four-wheel drive system.
For the third-generation model, Toyota offered both short- and long-wheelbase versions of the RAV4. Short-wheelbase versions were sold in Japan and Europe; long-wheelbase versions in Australia and North America. Toyota of Japan also sold the longer-wheelbase version as the Toyota Vanguard (Japanese: トヨタ・ヴァンガード, Hepburn: Toyota Vangādo) at Toyopet Store dealership chain from 2005 through 2016. RAV4 for the Japanese market were sold at two different Toyota dealership chains, Corolla Store and Netz.
In 2019, the RAV4 was the best-selling SUV of any type in the world, and the fourth best-selling passenger car overall. North America is the largest market, with 535,000 units sold in 2019, followed by Europe (133,000) and China (127,000). By February 2020, a total of 10 million RAV4s had been sold globally.

Every time the car is started, or begins driving after sitting idle for a couple of minutes, it will beep and alarm constantly for several minutes, warning me of the passenger airbag. It is a serous distraction, and now prevents me from transporting a passenger. This has been going on since June 2024, and dealer refuses to look at car due to recall. I was even willing to pay myself to make the repair. No one will touch it. The remedy was originally set for the summer time, then end of 3rd quarter 2024. Now, it’s almost a month after the end of the 3rd quarter. Thank you for your time in reviewing this.

Only 2 lanes available and they were narrower than normal width. Part of the shoulder was converted to driving lane so almost no shoulder to pull off on. The incident happened on a Sunday afternoon and interstate was extremely busy with weekend traffic. My wife was extremely lucky not to be involved in a serious accident. - Tire has not been inspected by anyone other than the car dealer - If the tire pressure warning light came on it wasn't noticed. There were no symptoms or warnings prior to the failure.

Good: style, fuel economy, good use of interior space and plenty of USB ports. Bad: The engine stops at stop lights (which affects fuel economy) and needs to be reset every time you restart the engine. The engine is sluggish and the infotainment system is not user-friendly with limited apps. Additionally, the warranty on CPO overlaps the existing warranty (it does not extend it). The ride is truck-like.

The car's performance on corners is subpar and it produces a significant amount of noise at freeway speeds. The JBL Sound System is not up to par, with the volume fluctuating from too loud to inaudible. The navigation system is not reliable and struggles to navigate major highways. It may be more beneficial to invest in an aftermarket sound and navigation system rather than paying extra for the car's system. While it is a suitable car for town and work driving, it may not be the best option for long trips.

Hi there! I've been driving a RAV4 for the past 9 years and I wanted to share my experience with you. I've noticed that the tires seem to develop issues with time and usage. I'm not sure if this is a common problem, but it's been my only issue with the car. It's always something with the tire - one day it's the shock, the next day it's the bearing, and then the tyroid. But overall, it's a great car!

We purchased our 2017 Rav4 LE brand new from the dealership and have driven it for 33k miles. Unfortunately, we have recently experienced some transmission issues such as hard shifting and delayed shifting until 6k rpm. Additionally, we had a problem with our braking system. Despite these issues, we initially enjoyed the comfortable seats and decent gas mileage. However, we did notice that the car collects dust and dirt easily and the radio and headlights could use some improvement. We also noticed that the paint seems to chip easily after just 6 months. Overall, we have had some challenges with our Rav4 and have been disappointed with the build quality.

I purchased the car on April 16th and have been gathering information for my review over the past 3 and a half months. Overall, the car is good and runs smoothly on normal roads. However, it struggles with potholes and train tracks, which can be quite jarring. The car is a bit slow, even for a 4-cylinder. Initially, I was conned into buying the RAV4 with no money down and a finance rate of 6.00%, resulting in monthly payments as high as $355.83 for 75 months. However, I was able to refinance the RAV4 at a much lower rate of 2.00% with a bank in New York, bringing my monthly payments down to $305.25. Overall, I am satisfied with my purchase and the refinancing decision I made.

The biggest issue I have encountered with this vehicle is its poor MPG. I purchased it based on the published MPG range, but the actual MPG consistently falls on the low end. I live in flat Florida, and most of my driving is rural with occasional light city traffic. Additionally, the third-row seat is so cramped that my 6 and 9-year-olds have to sit sideways if anyone is sitting in the second row. I took it to the dealership (Deluca) to have the MPG checked, but unfortunately, the service lady treated us like we were idiots and later lied to us about how they checked to see if there was any issue. She told us that a mechanic drove it for 30 minutes continuously at 35mph, and the MPG was 28MPG, which is an impossible test. I wish we had bought the Durango or the CRV instead. We will be trading this off soon! (Previously, we loved our Corolla!)

It feels like a new driver just learning to drive a manual transmission.The dealer test drove it, identified the issue, then said that was normal and there is nothing wrong with my Rav4.Other dislikes: hard seats, brake too close to accelerator, doors sound tinny when closed, keyless ignition locks up randomly, too many lever controls on steering column (3 with wipers, lights, and cruise control)

I purchased my 2020 RAV4 in July. Unfortunately, I have experienced some issues with the vehicle, including the side mirror coming off and vibration from the radio. Most recently, the dashboard lit up with ten different faults. However, I am confident in Toyota's ability to address these issues and have contacted Toyota Care for assistance. While I am disappointed with the current situation, I trust that the dealership will resolve these issues promptly and effectively.
