- Summary: Very often, while driving at normal speeds around curving and hilly roads, the traction control light comes on. It even locks the speed until the light goes off. And sometimes the VSC (Vehicle stability control) light comes on and takes control of the car. When the warning lights go off, the car returns to normal. I took the car to Kauai Toyota Service Department. They said that they cannot troubleshoot the problem until one of the lights stay on continuously. It is a little disconcerting when this happens while driving. I love this car and what to keep it. But I want to get to the problem and fix it. - Summary: On 10/1/2022 in Berwick, PA while pulling into the Dollar Tree parking lot, smoke appeared in the passenger cabin and the vehicle accelerated on it's own. The brakes were applied and the vehicle continue to accelerate. The vehicle went down through a yard, across a road through another parking lot and crashed into a high curb before stalling out. The airbags deployed. My mother was transported to the hospital and is still in ICU with broken ribs, cuts and bruises. She was able to steer the vehicle away from a parked car, a person on a bicycle and missed a rose bush, no one else was injured in the incident. A police report has been completed, the vehicle is still in the custody of the towing company and has not been released to the insurance company.

THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON SO MUCH THAT IT'S HARD TO TELL WHEN THERE REALLY IS A PROBLEM. RECENTLY MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON FOR ABOUT 9 MONTHS. THE MECHANIC CODES REVEALED THAT IT WAS RUNNING TOO "RICH." I PUT IT ON "NON-OPERABLE" FOR REGISTRATION PURPOSES WHILE I AGAIN TRIED TO FIGURE OUT WHY. ONE DAY (ON A TEMPORARY MOVING PERMIT) I WENT TO GET GASOLINE AND FILLED THE TANK HALFWAY. A FEW MILES LATER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT OFF, FOR NO APPARENT REASON. I WENT TO GET A SMOG CHECK, AND WHEN I ASKED ABOUT THE FAIL POLICY AT THE STATION, THE ATTENDANT SAID, "THESE TOYOTAS ALWAYS PASS THE EMISSIONS, AS LONG AS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ISN'T ON." HE WAS RIGHT, AND MY RAV4 PASSED WITH PERFECT EMISSIONS COMPLIANCE. IN THE PAST I HAVE REPLACED MY CATALYTIC CONVERTER, ALL THE OXYGEN SENSORS, AND EVENTUALLY THE ENTIRE EXHAUST MANIFOLD IN ORDER TO GET THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO GO OFF AND PASS A CA SMOG CHECK. SOME YEARS AGO MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON FOR ABOUT A YEAR AND A HALF. IT WAS LEAKING OIL, AND MY MECHANIC SAID JUST TO MAKE SURE IT HAD ENOUGH OIL IN IT UNTIL I COULD AFFORD TO FIX THE "LEAKY GASKETS." BUT THE PROBLEM WAS REALLY A FAULTY OIL PUMP, AND THE ENGINE SEIZED. I HAD A REBUILT ENGINE PUT IN, AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT OFF. THE TOYOTA RAN FINE FOR 6 MONTHS. I ACCELERATE UPHILL AS I MAKE A SLIGHT RIGHT CURVE, AND SUDDENLY, THE CAR DOES THE FOLLOWING: I WILL LOOSE CONTROL OF THE STEERING AND THE VSC WARNING LIGHT COMES ON. WHEN I TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR, THE VSC LIGHT TURNS OFF AND I REGAIN CONTROL OF THE STEERING. WHEN I APPLY THE GAS, THE SAME THING HAPPENS AGAIN. THE SEVERITY OF THE LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL SEEMS TO DEPEND UPON WHAT PART OF THE CURVE I AM IN. AS THE ROAD IS STILL SLIGHTLY CURVING TO THE RIGHT, THE CAR'S ABILITY TO ACCELERATE GREATLY DIMINISHES. THEREFORE, I AM FORCED TO DRIVE 35-40 MPH, WHICH CREATES AN ACCIDENT PRONE SCENE FOR MYSELF AND THE DRIVERS BEHIND ME THAT ARE TRAVELING 50-55 MPH. MY COMMUTE TO WORK, I'M DRIVING WEST & THIS RECENTLY STARTED DOWNHILL, THE PROBLEM OCCURS AFTER THE HILL WHERE THERE IS A SLIGHT CURVE TO THE RIGHT. - Summary: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2010-2016 4Runner, 2003-2006 Tundra, 2003-2013 Corolla, 2009-2010 Corolla Matrix, 2004-2005 RAV4, 2002-2007 Sequoia, 2011-2013 Sienna, 2008-2012 Scion xB, 2008-2009 Lexus IS-F, 2007-2012 Yaris and Lexus ES350, 2010-2017 Lexus GX460, 2002-2010 Lexus SC430, 2006-2012 Lexus IS250 and IS350 and 2010-2015 Lexus IS250C and IS350C vehicles. These vehicles had their driver or passenger frontal air bag inflators previously replaced under a prior recall using inflators of the same design. The inflators may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, temperature and temperature cycling.
- Consequence: An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Toyota will notify owners. Depending on the vehicle model, dealers will replace the front driver inflator, front passenger airbag inflator, the airbag assembly, or the front passenger airbag sub-assembly and inflator. The recall began November 20, 2019. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-888-270-9371 or Lexus customer service at 1-800-255-3987. Toyota's numbers for this recall are J0A, J0B, and J0C. Lexus' numbers for this recall are JLI, JLJ, and JLK.

- Summary: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2004-2005 Toyota RAV4 vehicles manufactured May 13, 2003, to October 25, 2005. The affected vehicles are equipped with a dual-stage driver frontal air bag that may be susceptible to moisture intrusion which, over time, could cause the inflator to rupture.
- Consequence: In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, the inflator could rupture with metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Owners of these vehicles are advised not to drive their vehicles until the recall remedy has been completed. Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver's frontal air bag, free of charge. Owners were mailed an interim notice June 17, 2015. The recall began on August 21, 2015. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331.

After months of research, I decided to go for the RAV4. I am really happy with my decision and my friends and colleagues are impressed too. It's zippy, good on mileage (22mpg city/30mpg highway), compact, and has great pick-up (better than my previous v6 dodge intrepid). It's great value for the price, with great looks and performance backed by Toyota's reputation. I believe it's the best compact SUV on the market. The safety features, especially the side curtain airbags, helped me get good insurance rates and gave me peace of mind, of course.

You've been through 3 sets of front brakes, 3 sets of tires, 2 water pumps, and had to replace the Air Sensor thingy which wasn't cheap at $350. However, with just regular maintenance, you've managed to keep this little guy going. You change the oil every 7-10 thousand miles, flush the radiator fluid once a year, and change the trans fluid every 50,000 miles. Recently, you installed new struts and shocks which were long overdue and made an amazing difference in the ride. Although the sensor light kept going on the dash, you've managed to keep your car in great shape!

I absolutely adore my first RAV4 that I purchased in March of 1998 and I couldn't bear the thought of ever trading it in. When our van finally gave up, we knew we had to replace it with another RAV4. It's been such a reliable car that it seemed foolish to even consider anything else. We did think about a different Toyota, but the size of the RAV is perfect for city driving and it's so comfortable on the open road. We have three growing kids between the ages of 7 and 14 and while the older RAV had a smaller back seat, the newer one has plenty of room for all three kids and they never complain! I absolutely love the added get up and go in the 05. It's such a fantastic car that I would definitely buy it again. Who knows, maybe we'll even go for three!

I traded in my 2005 Scion tC for this car and I feel much safer in snowy conditions. The other night, I drove my Rav in 7 inches of snow and it handled beautifully. The traction control and safety features are definitely a plus. The auto LSD works like a charm. When I pulled into my driveway through a huge snow drift, the front wheels slid to the right. However, I put on the auto LSD and drove straight up the driveway.

My Rav4 has been a reliable car since 2006, with only a minor issue when the alternator needed to be replaced at 75,000 miles. Although there has been a persistent knocking noise in the engine, I have been able to manage it. The gas pedal has a slight hesitation, which I believe could benefit from a recall. However, once the car gets going, it is very easy to drive and handles like a go-kart.

Although my RAV is an '04, I would like to share my experience. Initially, I liked the vehicle, but I soon noticed several issues that bothered me. Firstly, the front seats were very uncomfortable, especially when driving for more than 30 minutes, and my passengers agreed. Secondly, the back seat had limited leg room, which was problematic when carrying back seat passengers regularly. Thirdly, the rear hatch door seemed flimsy, and items fell out too easily. My wife purchased this car without test driving any others. She fell in love with it after just a 10 minute drive up the street. However, after almost 1.5 years, she has been constantly wishing for a car with more space, better gas mileage, and a smoother ride. Unfortunately, the folding back seats do not lie flat, which has been a bit of a challenge. Although this vehicle is built on the Corolla platform, it rides more like a Hummer (military version). As a result, she is quite disappointed and will not consider another Toyota.
