2007 Toyota Rav4 problems
The Toyota RAV4 (Japanese: トヨタ・RAV4, Hepburn: Toyota Ravufō) is a compact crossover SUV produced by the Japanese automobile manufacturer Toyota. It is known for starting the wave of compact crossovers.
It made its debut in Japan and Europe in 1994, and in North America in 1995, being launched in January 1996. The vehicle was designed for consumers wanting a vehicle that had most of the benefits of SUVs, such as increased cargo room, higher visibility, and the option of full-time four-wheel drive, along with the manoeuvrability and fuel economy of a compact car. The vehicle's name is an abbreviation of "Recreational Active Vehicle with 4-wheel drive", or "Robust Accurate Vehicle with 4-wheel drive", although not all models come equipped with the four-wheel drive system.
For the third-generation model, Toyota offered both short- and long-wheelbase versions of the RAV4. Short-wheelbase versions were sold in Japan and Europe; long-wheelbase versions in Australia and North America. Toyota of Japan also sold the longer-wheelbase version as the Toyota Vanguard (Japanese: トヨタ・ヴァンガード, Hepburn: Toyota Vangādo) at Toyopet Store dealership chain from 2005 through 2016. RAV4 for the Japanese market were sold at two different Toyota dealership chains, Corolla Store and Netz.
In 2019, the RAV4 was the best-selling SUV of any type in the world, and the fourth best-selling passenger car overall. North America is the largest market, with 535,000 units sold in 2019, followed by Europe (133,000) and China (127,000). By February 2020, a total of 10 million RAV4s had been sold globally.

I had bought the vehicle used from a licensed Toyota dealership about 3 years ago and have been diligent about conducting the routine scheduled maintenance. The vehicle had no known recalls. I was driving about 25mph when I started to smell smoke. The drivers side door caught on fire while the vehicle was in motion. There were literally flames coming out of area with the buttons used to control the windows. I immediately pulled the vehicle over and the car ended up having to be towed. On Google, Toyota has had several other incidents where this exact same recall issue happened and the vehicle caught on fire. I called the dealership where I purchased the vehicle and the Toyota Corporate as well. I smoke to a representative on a Wednesday and they let me know my case number and that someone would be in touch to follow-up within 48 hours. However, it has been 6 days and I haven’t received any update.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-05-28
- Fire: 1
- VIN: JTMBK32V475
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: I noticed the steering wheel was becoming stiff and I resolved to immediately bring the car to the shop given that the mechanic was less than a mile away. The dashboard showed no sensors were off, but I figured it was best to double check. We were fortunately driving on local streets when we smelled smoke. I pulled over, checked the dashboard again to see that the battery light and the airbag light had turned on and off. No other sensor went off. I turned off the engine and turned on the hazards. Although the temperature gauge on the dashboard was normal, I figured that the car was overheating, which would be a first. I retrieved my son from the car, and thought it would be best to call a tow truck. When connecting with AAA, the smoke coming from the car started to grow and I hung up to call the fire department. As I held my son, a brave samaritan tried to help open the hood to extinguish the growing flame. The smoke was overwhelming, a crowd gathered to record the occurrence while I was fortunately able to shield my toddler in an apartment lobby. The fire could not be distinguished until the fire truck arrived. We had taken the car for a roadtrip in April, prior to which we got a check-up, we ensure that we pass our annual registration even though we're no longer paying for extended warranty, which we had til a few years ago. I'm writing because I'm concerned given how quickly these circumstances had escalated. The fact that we didn't even have time to make it to a local auto shop, nevertheless, the service center, or that no sensors or alerts went off prior to this, is truly shocking. Had we been on the highway, the situation would've been worse, where it would've taken longer for the fire department to arrive and the fire would've reached the gas tank, harming many other people.

WHEELS,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-03-22
- VIN: JTMBK32VX75
- Components: WHEELS,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: I BOUGHT THE CAR 3 MONTHS AGO FROM PRICE AUTO. THE TIRES WEE FINE AT THAT POINT ALTHOUGH AFTER ABOUT 30 DAYS I NOTICED THE DRIVER REAR TIIRE WAS WEARING A LOT AND THE PASSENGER REAR WAS WEARING ALSO SO I DECIDED TO BUY NEW TIRES 4 OF THEM FROM TIRE WAREHOUSE. WHEN DOING SO I ASKED FOR AN ALIGNMENT THATS WHEN I FOUND OUT THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON MY VEHICLE AND IT WAS WITH THE ALIGNMENT. THE REAR ALIGNMENT HAS TO E SEALED SHUT AFTER INITIAL ADJUSTMENT OR IT COULD COME LOOSE AND A BAD ACCIDENT COULD HAPPEN. I IMMEDIETLY MADE GRAPPONE TOYOTA IN CONCOD NH AWARE OF THIS AND THEY SCHEDULED ME TO COME IN SO THEY COULD TAKE PICS AND SEND A REPORT TO HEADQUARTERS TO SEE IF THEY WOULD COVER THE COSTS SINCE IT WAS A RECALL. I SPOKE WITH A SCOTT AT TOYOTA. . ALSO AT THIS POINT ITS ALMOST 30 DAYS SINCE I OUGHT THE 4 NEW TIRES AND AS OF YESTERDAY 3/27 THE DRIVER BACK REAR TIRE HAD TO BE REPLACED DUE TO THE FACT IT WAS DOWN TO THE METAL. ALL TOYOTA WILL DO IS PAY FOR THE PARTS WHICH IS $251 . THEY WANT ME TO PAY FOR THE LABOR AND THE ALIGNMENT AND THAT COMES TO $484. SO THEYVE ADMITTED FAULT BY OFFERING TO PAY FOR ANY OF IT. I JUST BELIEVE THEY SHOULD BE LIABLE FOR ALL OF IT. I MEAN I ALREADY PAID TIRE WAREHOUSE FOR AN ALIGNMENT BUT THEY CANT TOUCH IT BECAUSE OF THE RECALL ONLY TOYOTA CAN AND THAT IS FOR THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE THATS NOT RIGHT. IF THE VEHICLE HAS A RECALL AND YOU CAN ONLY BANDAID THE PROBLEM THEN THE RECALL ISNT FIXED AND THE CAR IS UNSAFE.. I MEAN AND WHAT ABOUT THE TIRES I HAVE ALREADY GONE THROUGH WHOS PAYING FOR THOSE?

AIR BAGS,SEAT BELTS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2019-12-30
- VIN: JTMBK31V975
- Components: AIR BAGS,SEAT BELTS
- Summary: I WAS DRIVING ON A DIRT ROAD AROUND 25-30 MPH WHEN MY DRIVERS SIDE CURTAIN SHIELD AIRBAG (CSA) DEPLOYED UNEXPECTEDLY. PREVIOUS TO DEPLOYING, THE SEATBELT HAD SUDDENLY LOCKED INTO PLACE. I LEANED BACK TO GET THE SEATBELT TO RELEASE, AND AS I TRIED TO LEAN FORWARD TO SEE IF IT HAD, THE AIRBAG SUDDENLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY DEPLOYED. I STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND LOOKED AROUND THE CAR FOR DAMAGE FROM A COLLISION AND OBSERVED NONE. I ALSO DID NOT FEEL OR SENSE A COLLISION HAPPENING. I BELIEVED THIS ISSUE MAY BE RELATED TO A TOYOTA AIRBAG RECALL, PROMPTING ME TO CONTACT THEM. TOYOTA DID AN INSPECTION AND READ THE ELECTRONIC DATA RECORDER FOR THE VEHICLE. UPON COMPLETION THEY TOLD ME THAT THE EDR HAD SENSED A COLLISION ON THE LEFT REAR OF THE VEHICLE, CAUSING THE AIRBAG TO DEPLOY. I HAVE A COPY OF THE EDR, THOUGH NO MEANS TO READ IT OR VERIFY IF THIS IS CORRECT. BASED ON THE INFORMATION ABOUT THE COLLISION, I PURSUED A CLAIM WITH MY COMPREHENSIVE INSURANCE. THE INSURANCE COMPANY FOUND NO DAMAGE TO MY VEHICLE AND CITED A FAULTY SENSOR AND CITED TOYOTAS CSA AND SEATBELT RECALL OF 2007 RAV4S. TOYOTA INSISTS THAT MY VEHICLE IS NOT INVOLVED IN THE RECALL AND THAT THIS ISSUE IS UNRELATED. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THAT IS TRUE, AS MY INSURANCE IS DENYING THE CLAIM AND CITING THE RECALL AS THE REASON. I DID HAVE A TOYOTA DEALER REPLACE THE SEATBELT, AS AFTER THE AIRBAG DEPLOYED IT WAS NO LONGER FUNCTIONAL. I ALSO STILL HAVE THE AIRBAG, JUST IN CASE IT NEEDS TO BE INSPECTED OR SOMETHING.

2007 Toyota Rav4 recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 14 recalls for different components of the 2007 Toyota Rav4.
- Manufacturer: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing
- Components: SUSPENSION:REAR
- Summary: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2006-2011 Toyota RAV4 vehicles manufactured October 31, 2005, to September 7, 2010, and 2010 Lexus HS250h vehicles manufactured July 6, 2009, to August 26, 2010. The affected vehicles have rear suspension arms (rear tie rods) with adjusting lock nuts that may have been improperly tightened after servicing. As a result of being loose, the arm may have thread damage and may rust, possibly leading to the failure of the arm and an abrupt change in the vehicle's alignment.
- Consequence: Failure of the rear tie rod could cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Toyota will notify owners and dealers will replace both rear suspension arms and encapsulate the locknuts, free of charge. The recall began on September 30, 2016. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's numbers for this recall are G0V for Toyota vehicles and GLK for Lexus vehicles. Note: This recall supersedes recall 13V-383, in which some vehicles were only inspected, sealed, and did not have both arms replaced. The affected vehicles were previously recalled under 13V-383, but did not have both rear suspension arms replaced at that time. Those vehicles need to have both arms replaced as part of this recall remedy.

- Summary: Southeast Toyota Distributors, LLC (SET) is recalling certain model year 2010-2011 Prius and Corolla, 2009-2011 Venza, 2006-2010 Avalon, 2007-2010 FJ Cruiser, 2005-2011 Sienna and Sequoia, 2006-2011 Tacoma 4x2 and 4x4, Camry, Highlander, Tundra 4x2 and 4x4, and 2007-2011 Rav4 and 4Runner. The affected vehicles may experience compression of the seat cushion which may damage the seat heater wiring.
- Consequence: Damage to the seat heater wiring could cause the wires to short, increasing the risk of the seat burning and causing personal injury to the occupant.
- Remedy: SET will notify owners, and dealers will disconnect the heaters with copper strand heating elements and refund the purchase price of the seat heater accessory, free of charge. The recall is expected to began in January 2015. Owners may contact SET customer service at 1-866-405-4226.
- Manufacturer: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing
- Components: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:DRIVER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE
- Summary: Toyota is recalling certain model year 2006-2008 RAV4, 2006-2010 Yaris, 2008-2010 Highlander, and 2009-2010 Tacoma, Corolla, Corolla Matrix and General Motors Pontiac Vibe vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the steering column assembly contains electrical connections to the driver's airbag module housed in a spiral cable assembly, which includes a Flexible Flat Cable (FFC). Due to the shape and location of the FFC's retainer, the FFC could become damaged when the steering wheel is turned.
- Consequence: If the FFC is damaged, connectivity to the driver's air bag module could be lost and the air bag deactivated. The failure of the driver's air bag to deploy in the event of a crash that typically necessitates deployment increases the risk of injury to the driver.
- Remedy: Toyota will notify the Toyota vehicle owners, and General Motors will notify the Pontiac Vibe owners. Toyota sent owners an interim notification letter in May 2014 to advise owners of the recall. Toyota will mail owners a second letter when remedy parts are available. General Motors sent Pontiac Vibe owners an Interim letter on June 20, 2014 notifying them that parts are currently unavailable. General Motors sent notices to the Pontiac Vibe owners on September 15, 2014, that a remedy is available. The recall began on October 27, 2014. Owners may contact Toyota at 1-800-331-4331. Owners may contact General Motors at 1-800-762-2737.
- Manufacturer: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing
- Components: SUSPENSION:REAR
- Summary: Toyota is recalling certain model year 2006 through 2011 RAV4 and 2010 Lexus HS250h passenger vehicles manufactured from October 2005 through September 2010. If the nuts for adjusting the rear wheel alignment are improperly tightened during service, the rear suspension arm (rear tie rod) may develop unwanted movement and rust leading to thread damage and eventual failure. Failure of the rear tie rod will cause an abrupt change in the vehicle's alignment.
- Consequence: Failure of the rear tie rod could cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the tie rods and replace any that have rust or corrosion on the alignment adjustment threads. All of the rear tie rods will then be encased in an epoxy to prevent future environmental damage. Due to limitations in parts, the recall remedy will be launched in phases from September 2013 through mid-April 2014. All owners will receive notification of the recall, with most receiving second notifications when parts are available in their area. IMPORTANT: This recall supersedes Toyota and Lexus recall 12V-373. All vehicles that have been inspected and remedied under the previous recall need to be re-inspected and have the appropriate remedy applied.
- Manufacturer: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing
- Components: VISIBILITY:POWER WINDOW DEVICES AND CONTROLS
- Summary: Toyota is recalling certain model year 2007-2009 Camry, Camry Hybrid, RAV4, Corolla, Corolla Matrix, Tundra, Sequoia, Highlander, Highlander Hybrid, Yaris, Scion xB, Scion xD and Pontiac Vibe vehicles. The power window master switch assemblies in some of these vehicles were built using a less precise process for lubricating the internal components of the switch assemblies. Irregularities in this lubrication process may cause the power window master switch assemblies to malfunction and overheat.
- Consequence: If the switch overheats, it may melt, possibly resulting in a fire.
- Remedy: Toyota will notify its owners, and dealers will inspect the switch and apply a special grease that inhibits heat build up or replace any switch damaged by the defect, free of charge. Toyota owners that experience a problem with a switch should not attempt to make repairs, but should contact their Toyota dealer or the Toyota Customer Experience Center at 1-800-331-4331. General Motors will contact the Pontiac Vibe owners affected by this recall and GM dealers will inspect and repair switches as necessary. Those owners may contact Pontiac Customer Care at 1-800-762-2737.

Dealers will also affix instructions in multiple places to prevent improper servicing in the future. The recall began on November 30, 2012. I was looking for a vehicle that had a proven track record, more cargo area than a small sedan, decent power and fuel economy. The RAV4 fits the bill perfectly. The V6 is strong without compromising fuel economy too much. The ride is firm yet comfortable, and the handling is agile and predictable. The interior and exterior are stylish and driver-friendly. I average 23 mpg while commuting, which includes a mix of expressway and stop-go traffic. On trips, I get 27.5 mpg while averaging 70-80 mph. For me, it's practical yet still fun to drive.

I chose the RAV4 because I needed an SUV that could accommodate my dogs, carry household items, handle snowy roads with 4WD, and still provide excellent gas mileage. My previous coupe was no longer sufficient. Initially, I considered the CR-V and Highlander, but after test-driving the RAV4, I was sold! It has ample room, handles like my sporty coupe, boasts impressive pick-up for a 4 cylinder, and offers mileage similar to a 4 cyl car. Additionally, it has many great features such as dual-zone climate control, storage space under the trunk, moonroof, and alarm system. The dealership was a pleasure to work with, and I was happy to give them my business.

I bought this car brand new back in 2007 and have driven around 50,000 miles since then. Unfortunately, I have had to replace the transmission three times now. The first one failed at 25k due to a cracked output shaft, and the second one had a constant whine because of a poorly honed final drive gear. Additionally, the steering shafts tend to pop under stress, and the rear differential makes an odd THUNK when shifting into Drive from reverse. I have also gone through three sets of tires and had to replace the front pads and rotors. Despite these issues, I must say that this car is amazing in the snow. The V6 engine provides great power, and there is plenty of room for four people. I just wish it had held up better.

Hello! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my new RAV4 Sport V6. I received it on the first day it snowed in Vancouver, Canada (which is quite rare), so I had to wait a week until the snow melted to finally drive it. I was a bit worried about other drivers on the road, but once I got behind the wheel, I was blown away! This car is amazing! The V6 engine is always ready to go and it's so much fun to drive. The Flint Mica colour and black interior are a great combination and look really cool. I haven't had a chance to accelerate too hard yet, so I haven't experienced any torque steer. The handling in the snow was really precise and I felt in control the whole time. The visibility is also excellent, even with the wheel on the rear door. The rear seats have ample legroom, especially when reclined. So far, I'm averaging 15L/100km before the break-in period. Thanks for listening!

I've had my 2007 RAV4 Limited for a little over 7 weeks and I absolutely love it! I was initially hesitant about purchasing a 4 cyl SUV after owning a V6 mustang, but it has great get up and go on the freeways and excellent handling. I feel safe and secure behind the wheel, and the visibility is fabulous. Even my husband loves it. Toyota has truly made a superior and sporty looking SUV.

Our RAV4 AWD/4 C from Stevenson Toyota dealership in Lakewood, Colorado had only 20,000 miles and was still certified. However, after owning it, we experienced numerous recalls and the worst of all was oil consumption, which caused the engine to blow up on the highway. Despite the fact that the car was still under warranty, the dealership refused to fix the issue, which would have required a brand new engine costing over $8,000. We are currently in the process of suing the dealership for misleading us twice about the oil consumption. We have winter studded tires, which are reliable for safety in Colorado, along with AWD/4wd/4x4, good wipers, all necessary fluids, and a working heater. Overall, the car has been running well over the years.

The original owner had 66949 miles on their vehicle when they experienced symptoms of the Check Engine, Swerve Tires, and VSC lights. After diagnosis, it was advised that the Canister (77740-0R010) was cracked and required a repair cost of $1000. Despite feeling unhappy with the situation, the repair was completed within 2 hours. While the experience was not ideal, it is important to note that this issue was not a design flaw in the system. Toyota took responsibility for the repair and provided a solution. It is understandable that the owner may consider other brands for their next vehicle, but it is important to acknowledge that Toyota addressed the issue in a timely and professional manner.

Hey there! Just wanted to give you a heads up about a potential issue with the intermediate steering shaft in some Toyota models, including the Rav4. It's always a good idea to do your research before making a purchase. Unfortunately, I had an issue with my Rav4's intermediate steering shaft, even though it's less than 3 years old and has mostly highway mileage. The Toyota servicing dealer recommended a replacement, which would cost around $1600. While there is a Toyota service bulletin for this problem, I was told that I'm on my own since I've driven over 36k miles. I'm hoping Toyota will step up and cover the cost, as I've always been a loyal customer. If not, I may have to consider other options. Thanks for listening!

The transmission produces an irritating whine between 40 and 60 mph. Despite the widespread nature of this issue, Toyota has yet to address it. It is unfortunate that this problem overshadows the positive aspects of the SUV. However, it is important to note that Toyota is a reputable company that values its customers and will likely take action to resolve this issue in due course.

Despite having all repairs, replacements, and oil changes performed solely at Toyota dealerships, the engine on my 07' Rav4Sport blew up at 86k miles. While driving on the freeway one day, something shot out from inside the engine, causing all of the oil to spew out and leaving me stranded. After having it towed to the dealership where I had gotten an oil change just 6 days prior, I was informed that there was a 3 sq inch hole in the bottom block and that I needed a new engine. I escalated the issue to corporate and, as expected, they offered me a mere $1k towards the purchase of a new vehicle. However, I am confident in my knowledge of the situation and will continue to advocate for a fair resolution.
