Toyota Camry 2010 problems
The Toyota Camry (/ˈkæmri/; Japanese: トヨタ・カムリ Toyota Kamuri) is an automobile sold internationally by the Japanese auto manufacturer Toyota since 1982, spanning multiple generations. Originally compact in size (narrow-body), the Camry has grown since the 1990s to fit the mid-size classification (wide-body)—although the two widths co-existed in that decade. Since the release of the wide-bodied versions, Camry has been extolled by Toyota as the firm's second "world car" after the Corolla. As of 2022, the Camry is positioned above the Corolla and below the Avalon or Crown in several markets.
In Japan, Camry was once exclusive to Toyota Corolla Store retail dealerships. Narrow-body cars also spawned a rebadged sibling in Japan, the Toyota Vista (トヨタ・ビスタ)—also introduced in 1982 and sold at Toyota Vista Store locations. Diesel fuel versions have previously retailed at Toyota Diesel Store. The Vista Ardeo was a wagon version of the Vista V50.
Etymology
The name "Camry" derives from the Japanese word kanmuri (ja:冠, かんむり), meaning "crown". This follows Toyota's naming tradition of using the crown name for primary models starting with the Toyota Crown (1955), continuing with the Toyota Corona (1957) and Corolla (1966); the Latin words for "crown" and "small crown", respectively. Maintaining this theme was the Toyota Tiara (1960) named after the "tiara" form of crown. The Atara trim level name used on the Camry in Australia since 2011 means "crown" in Hebrew. The rebadged Camry variant for Japan, the Toyota Scepter (1991)—took its name from "scepter", a royal accessory to a crown.

Common Toyota Camry 2010 problems
The Toyota Camry 2010 is known for its reliability, but some common problems have been reported by owners.
- Musty Smell from AC/Heat Vents: A moldy or musty smell coming from the vents can be a common problem in the 2010 Camry. This issue is caused by condensation buildup in the A/C system, which can lead to mold growth if the system isn't allowed to dry out for a few minutes before the car is parked.
- Torque Converter Failure: The torque converter can fail, causing the car to shudder or shake when the transmission changes gears, especially when the RPMs drop. This issue can be addressed by updating the engine or replacing the torque converter.
- Power Window Failure: Power window failure is a common issue in the 2010 Camry, with several possible causes, including off-track windows, bad fuses, or malfunctioning window regulators.
- Door Lock Failure: Door lock failure is another common problem in the 2010 Camry, with various potential causes, such as damaged wiring, blown fuses, or malfunctioning actuators.
- O2 Sensor Failure: The O2 sensors can fail prior to 150,000 miles, causing issues with the car's emissions and fuel efficiency.
- Heat Shield Rattling: A heat shield rattling noise can occur when there's a strong cross breeze, which can be particularly annoying during long drives.
- Acceleration Hesitation: There can be a bit of hesitation between 1st and 2nd gears, especially at higher mileage, and an odd acceleration jump around 50 mph.
- Belt and Tie Rod Replacement: Belts and front tie rods may need to be replaced, but these are typical maintenance items for any car.
- Dashboard Recall: Some 2010 Camry models experienced a dashboard recall due to a sticky dashboard, but not all owners were notified or had the issue addressed.
Overall, the Toyota Camry 2010 is a reliable vehicle, but like any car, it can experience common problems. Regular maintenance and addressing issues promptly can help ensure the longevity and performance of the vehicle.

- Summary: My 2010 Toyota Camry LE dashboard is physically sticky, extremely shiny, & material of dashboard is melting & breaking down. It produces fumes at higher temperatures & seems to add fog to glass. The entire dashboard material is impacted. It has drip marks, bubbling, and erosion & getting worse. The area where the passenger airbag would deploy from is impacted, as well as overall integrity of physical dashboard across entire dashboard. The vehicle is available for inspection. My safety and the safety of others is being put at risk by the following: Multiple significant safety issues for driver & passengers from dashb1) visibility issues from extreme glare onto windshield result in blinding and/or distractiing driver, 2) Integrity of dashboard material is compromised (spongy, sticky, breaking down & worse with heat in normal conditions of use) 3) the dashboard is impaired where airbag would deploy from, 4) exposure to chemical fumes and particles from dashboard materials continues as it breaks down. I had Toyota Dealership Service Manager to view & inspect this dashboard in person on [XXX]. The service manager sat in driver seat and observed problem with extreme glare, touch to confirm stickiness, and I pointed to example of drips of melting dashboard, small pieces chipped & eroded from dashboard. The service manager also confirmed the passenger airbag does deploy from the dashboard (when asked). The toyota service manager then checked for recall or service program related to this issue. A customer service program would have replaced this for free - but showed as expired. I was then provided an estimate for dashboard replacement of $3128. This is serious defect that demands a safety recall. It impacts the safety and integrity of my vehicle and others on the road in the U.S. My vehicle only has 75,560 miles. No sensors or warning lights exist for dashboard material I'm aware of. The problem has been evolving overtime and getting worse. Merits safety recall. - Summary: Subject: camry rear window (defogger), tint film badly bubbling with poor or zero visibility Dealer: Al Hendrickson Toyota 5201 W Sample Rd Coconut Creek, Florida 33073 Phone: (954) 972-1100 Website: https://www.alhendricksontoyota.com/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=organic&utm_campaign=gbp_sales Amount Paid: 0 It is about my 2010 Camry bought new in 2010. It is sparsely driven (about 4 months in a year), mileage: 18,900. In 2017, bubbles developed in the rear window to the extent that it was literally opaque with zero visibility. The problem was reported to the dealer, Hendrickson. The defective tint was replaced. It was a warranty replacement at no cost. The problem has re-occurred (2023). Hendrickson refuses to fix it. I complained to Toyota company on or about Dec 8th, 2023 with no response so far. On my morning walks, I pass through several car parking lots and I have noticed this problem on in several Camrys and some corollas It shows the problem is quite spread out in Toyota models. I believe it is a manufacturing defect and a safety issue (poor visibility) for which manufacturer should be responsible and fix the problem ?
STRUCTURE,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,VISIBILITY/WIPER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-08-01
- VIN: 4T1BF3EKXAU
- Components: STRUCTURE,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,VISIBILITY/WIPER
- Summary: My 2010 Camry has become incredibly unsafe to drive or be in due to the dashboard melting. There is an unbelievably unsafe glare caused by the dashboard reflecting sunlight and the more the dash melts the more intense the glare becomes. There is also a smell that renders the vehicle almost worthless on hot days and causes headaches. This is on top of not being able to clean the dashboard because you cannot touch it with anything. All bugs and any dust that land on the dashboard live there permanently. You cannot wipe it with anything. Your finger prints stay on the dash with the lightest touch and often it becomes so hot you cannot touch it without potentially burning yourself. The dash melting is a safety hazard to everyone on the roadways. There are likely millions of cars with this defective dashboard that have not been repaired. I have contacted Toyota several times, including executives and high ranking corporate employees, and they say that they will not replace or help with this defective and unsafe cheap component that they used in order to increase their margins. The problem has been acknowledged by Toyota but they failed to contact an incredibly high number of owners that are affected. I first noticed the glare in 2014 and it has gotten progressively worse. I took the vehicle to a toyota dealership twice (2016/2023) and they refused to fix the defective dash both times. They expect owners to pay $3,500-$5,000 for a dashboard repair on a vehicle that has 100k+ mile life left yet is only worth around $5,000. They are essentially totaling cars that owners have worked hard to maintain and get the most out of. Toyota is stealing 10+ years of vehicle life from many consumers and placing the burden of their profit margins increasing onto consumers that buy toyotas because of their longevity and reliability.

- Summary: My 2010 Toyota Camry has a sticky dashboard issue. I am the second owner of the vehicle. Toyota had an open recall on sticky dashboard recall that ended in 2020 which i was not aware of during my ownership term. I took the car into dealership multiple times for oil change and tires and I was never informed of this. They sent letter about notice to previous owner. The car was never fixed under recall. When i contacted them, they mentioned the car notice was sent to previous owner and they can't honor the warranty anymore. This is a bunch of crap. They should be held liable for 1.) sending notice to wrong address 2.) not fixing a faulty design. An expiration on "safety recall" doesn't mean the problem goes away. The problem exists on my car and it is a road-hazard as the sticky-melting dashboard creates a glare on the windshield. The car is not driveable during day time when sun is shining. This is a serious safety issue and can lead to death of driver. I expect this issue to be fixed under their now closed-recall. Closing recall doesn't fix probelm for owners that didn't receive proper communication. I expect TOYOTA to fix this free of charge

- Summary: We have a 2010 Camry. It is having the sticky dash issue with it, which is a known issue with Toyota. And more concerning, the issue is causing a horrible glare on the windshield. This is a safety hazard as it is very hard to see. I understand there was a recall at one point, but since it is a huge safety concern, I would like Toyota to replace the dashboard at no cost to me.

Either drive the car or towed somewhere else.my choice. how could i drive a car knowingly that it is not safe to do so. i was offered $7k( including all the monies I paid every time i drove off their lot.) to trade in for a new car in which i cannot afford in the first place. suggested to tow it back to the dealer where i bought it, Lexus of Sacramento. please advise.
TIRES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-09-01
- Components: TIRES
- Summary: The contact owns a 2010 Toyota Camry equipped with Starfire Tires, Tire Line: Solarus A/S, Tire Size: 215/60/R16, DOT Number: (N/A). The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle wobbled due to all four tires losing air. The contact purchased a compressor to constantly add air to all four tires. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that there was a nail in the front driver's side tire, and the mechanic patched the front driver's side tire. The vehicle was then taken to a Goodyear service center, and it was determined that the front driver's side tire had a cut in the tread. The technician replaced the front driver's side tire and adjusted the air pressure in all four tires; however, the failure recurred with all four tires losing air. The tires were not replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 36,800.

- Summary: Dear Representative. I am submitting a complaint as per Request #605168 Replacement of stick dashboard by Toyota. I have 2010 Toyota Camry and I am the original owner. I have sticky dashboard problem since 2012/2013 and so recently I was just looking around to replace it as now bugs and other things started sticking on it. During my search I found that Toyota has this as recall in 2015/2017 and so I reached out to them for replacement. They rejected my request stating that they had sent me 2 letters notifying about the replacement and I had not responded. I responded back to Toyota confirming that I have not received any letters from Toyota in regards to dashboard. If I had received letters, why would not I replace it. I would like to request NHTSA to investigate the issue further as I asked Toyota if they had any proof to show that I have received the letter and they did not respond to it. Thank you.

- Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:ACCELERATOR PEDAL
- Summary: TOYOTA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2005-2010 AVALON, MODEL YEAR 2007-2010 CAMRY, MODEL YEAR 2009-2010 COROLLA, COROLLA MATRIX, RAV4, MODEL YEAR 2010 HIGHLANDER, MODEL YEAR 2008-2010 SEQUOIA, AND MODEL YEAR 2007-2010 TUNDRA VEHICLES. DUE TO THE MANNER IN WHICH THE FRICTION LEVER INTERACTS WITH THE SLIDING SURFACE OF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL INSIDE THE PEDAL SENSOR ASSEMBLY, THE SLIDING SURFACE OF THE LEVER MAY BECOME SMOOTH DURING VEHICLE OPERATION. IN THIS CONDITION, IF CONDENSATION OCCURS ON THE SURFACE, AS MAY OCCUR FROM HEATER OPERATION (WITHOUT A/C) WHEN THE PEDAL ASSEMBLY IS COLD, THE FRICTION WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL IS OPERATED MAY INCREASE, WHICH MAY RESULT IN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BECOMING HARDER TO DEPRESS, SLOWER TO RETURN, OR, IN THE WORST CASE, MECHANICALLY STUCK IN A PARTIALLY DEPRESSED POSITION.

- Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:ACCELERATOR PEDAL
- Summary: TOYOTA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2004-2010 PASSENGER VEHICLES. THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL CAN GET STUCK IN THE WIDE OPEN POSITION DUE TO ITS BEING TRAPPED BY AN UNSECURED OR INCOMPATIBLE DRIVER'S FLOOR MAT.
- Consequence: A STUCK OPEN ACCELERATOR PEDAL MAY RESULT IN VERY HIGH VEHICLE SPEEDS AND MAKE IT DIFFICULT TO STOP THE VEHICLE, WHICH COULD CAUSE A CRASH, SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.
- Remedy: TOYOTA FILED AN AMENDED DEFECT REPORT ON NOVEMBER 25, 2009, STATING THAT DEALERS WILL MODIFY THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND, ON CERTAIN VEHICLES, ALTER THE SHAPE OF THE FLOOR SURFACE UNDER THE PEDAL. THESE CHANGES ADDRESS THE RISK OF PEDAL ENTRAPMENT DUE TO INTERFERENCE WITH THE FLOOR MAT. REDESIGNED ACCELERATOR PEDALS WILL BECOME AVAILABLE BEGINNING IN APRIL 2010 AND DEALERS WILL REPLACE ANY MODIFIED PEDAL WITH THE NEW PEDAL IF DESIRED. ALSO, DEALERS WILL REPLACE ANY GENUINE TOYOTA OR LEXUS ALL-WEATHER FLOOR MATS WITH REDESIGNED ALL-WEATHER MATS, OR REPURCHASE THE PREVIOUS MATS FROM OWNERS WHO DO NOT WANT THE NEW ONES. ADDITIONALLY, SOFTWARE MODIFICATIONS WILL BE INSTALLED ON CAMRY, AVALON AND LEXUS ES 350, IS 350 AND IS 250 MODELS THAT WILL ENSURE THAT THE BRAKE OVERRIDES THE ACCELERATOR IN THE EVENT BOTH BRAKE AND ACCELERATOR PEDALS ARE APPLIED. I've owned over fifty American-made cars in my life, mostly Fords. However, none of them compare to this car in terms of all-around performance. Even with over 50k miles on it, it still runs like new. The ride is smooth and the handling is nice. You wouldn't believe the power in this four-cylinder engine! On the highway, I can drive at sixty miles per hour and have gotten as high as forty-five miles per gallon (although not consistently). On average, I get around thirty-nine to forty miles per gallon. The body is in great condition and the interior is excellent. I usually get a new car every four years, but I just can't bring myself to let go of this one.

I traded up my 2007 Corolla SE to a 2010 Toyota Camry SE and I'm thrilled with my decision. The Camry SE looks sleek, drives like a dream, and is very quiet, even on highway driving. I do a lot of highway driving and I'm averaging 32mpg. The 2.5L engine has plenty of pickup and is smooth. I love to drive this car! Lexus quality without paying the price!

I purchased my first Camry LE 4 cycl in 2007 and unfortunately experienced some major issues with it, including problems with the transmission, brakes, burning oil, vibrations over 40 mph, torque converter, hesitation in accelerations, rattles, and oil leakage. Despite taking it in for repairs countless times, the problems persisted and I ultimately had to sell it with only 14,000 miles on it. However, when Toyota offered a special deal on their 2010 models and a customer incentive program, I decided to give Toyota another chance and purchased a 2010 LE 6 cyl this time. I'm happy to report that it's been a much smoother ride so far, with no issues in the 1500 miles I've driven it. It's also much quieter than the 4 cyl and provides a lot of power and torque, making driving more enjoyable. Additionally, I've noticed that the gas consumption is better than my old 4 cyl. Overall, I'm pleased with my decision to give Toyota another chance and am enjoying my new Camry.

I am so glad to hear that you are enjoying your car! It sounds like it has a lot of great features that make for a comfortable and enjoyable driving experience. The seats seem to be a standout feature, and it's great to hear that the driving is plush and not too bumpy. The engine also sounds quite powerful, and it's impressive that you're able to get such good gas mileage on the highway. The visibility and rear view camera also seem to be helpful features. Overall, it sounds like you're driving a luxury car with excellent workmanship. Thanks for sharing your positive experience!

The car is nice but I'm not happy with the drive-by-wire and electronic transmission. The shifting feels erratic and makes the driving experience frustrating at slower shifting speeds. The dealership acknowledged the issue but says there is no 'fix'. For a Toyota, I'm disappointed and a bit surprised that this would be considered acceptable for release to the consumer. I hope they rectify this soon.

Despite reading reviews about the transmission issues, I purchased this car for its 'strong' V6 engine. However, during a long test drive, I did not experience the lackluster transmission. Unfortunately, I recently had a close call on the freeway where I needed to accelerate quickly, but the transmission did not respond immediately, forcing me to pull over. If I had known about the upcoming turbo Sonata from Hyundai, I would have waited for it. Nonetheless, I am confident in my decision to purchase this car and will continue to drive it safely. To all Camry owners, please drive safely as well.

I purchased this Camry brand new in June 2009, equipped with the 2.5 engine and it has only accumulated 24400 miles. Recently, I noticed a clattering sound emanating from the engine and had it inspected by a mechanic. After conducting some research, he concluded that the timing chain was the likely culprit. Upon further investigation, I discovered several technical bulletins that corroborated his findings. Although the repair was estimated to cost $1000, I am confident in my decision to invest in the necessary repairs to restore my vehicle to its optimal condition. As a loyal Toyota customer, I am committed to maintaining the longevity and performance of my vehicle.

I recently purchased a 2010 Toyota Camry LE 4cyl vehicle. While driving on secondary roads between 25 and 35 MPH, I noticed the transmission shifting up and down frequently, resulting in an erratic and jerky ride. Although the transmission settles down at speeds over 40 MPH, I feel uncomfortable driving this car on secondary roads. I contacted the dealership within a week of purchasing the car, and they informed me that the computer in the car is causing this behavior. They assured me that the transmission should calm down as the computer becomes accustomed to my driving habits. While I am still experiencing some discomfort, I am hopeful that the issue will be resolved soon.

I purchased my first Toyota, the Camry, based on the brand's reputation for quality. However, I have experienced several premature repairs, including replacing all four tires at 32k miles, all four struts and suspension links at 40k miles, and the right rear brake pads at 43.5k miles due to lack of lubrication on one of the caliper pins. These issues have led me to question Toyota's reputation for quality.

Despite the unfortunate issue with the wire harness in the transmission, which required a $900 repair, the rest of the car is in good condition. However, there are some concerns with the transmission's performance, such as sluggishness and inconsistent acceleration and deceleration. As a confident recommendation, it would be wise to have the transmission inspected by a trusted mechanic to ensure its longevity. Overall, the 2010 Toyota Camry is a beautiful car with great potential.
