2015 Toyota Camry problems
The Toyota Camry (/ˈkæmri/; Japanese: トヨタ・カムリ Toyota Kamuri) is an automobile sold internationally by the Japanese auto manufacturer Toyota since 1982, spanning multiple generations. Originally compact in size (narrow-body), the Camry has grown since the 1990s to fit the mid-size classification (wide-body)—although the two widths co-existed in that decade. Since the release of the wide-bodied versions, Camry has been extolled by Toyota as the firm's second "world car" after the Corolla. As of 2022, the Camry is positioned above the Corolla and below the Avalon or Crown in several markets.
In Japan, Camry was once exclusive to Toyota Corolla Store retail dealerships. Narrow-body cars also spawned a rebadged sibling in Japan, the Toyota Vista (トヨタ・ビスタ)—also introduced in 1982 and sold at Toyota Vista Store locations. Diesel fuel versions have previously retailed at Toyota Diesel Store. The Vista Ardeo was a wagon version of the Vista V50.
Etymology
The name "Camry" derives from the Japanese word kanmuri (ja:冠, かんむり), meaning "crown". This follows Toyota's naming tradition of using the crown name for primary models starting with the Toyota Crown (1955), continuing with the Toyota Corona (1957) and Corolla (1966); the Latin words for "crown" and "small crown", respectively. Maintaining this theme was the Toyota Tiara (1960) named after the "tiara" form of crown. The Atara trim level name used on the Camry in Australia since 2011 means "crown" in Hebrew. The rebadged Camry variant for Japan, the Toyota Scepter (1991)—took its name from "scepter", a royal accessory to a crown.

I've been discussing with Toyota Customer Service, who has known issues with the 2015 Toyota Camry under NHTSA Campaign ID: 15V144000, but they are trying to tell me that it only applies to V6 and Hybrid 2015 Camry's. I feel that this is also applicable to my vehicle VIN: [XXX] . I feel Toyota is refusing to acknowledge this critical safety issue affecting more 2015 Toyota Camry vehicles. I've never had an issue like this with 5 other previously owned vehicles. When asked if I could pay for the fix myself they informed me that it is not possible without a recall! My Toyota dealer is refusing to fix the issue and Toyota Customer Service hasn't responded in over 3 weeks to my inquiry. - Summary: To the esteemed officials of the US Department of Transportation, My name is [XXX] and I am the owner of a 2015 Toyota Camry SE. I recently had my car repaired for a completely separate issue and while I addressed a problem with the steering, my mechanic made me aware of a 2015 recall for the Electrical Power Steering electronic control unit. I was provided with information regarding it. While my VIN number was not listed as an automobile affected by this issue, it is evident that this is what's occurring. My days have been spent on the phone with the manufacturer and was told numerous times that my VIN number was not identified in said recall. As a result, I was told not to drive my car due to it being a safety concern, meaning I could lose overall control of the car, and I am now lacking transportation. Please advise on how to proceed, I would like to get this matter resolved in a reasonable time. Sincerely, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

POWER TRAIN,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-05-01
- VIN: 4T1BF1FK9FU
- Components: POWER TRAIN,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE
- Summary: I had no problems with my 2015 Toyota Camry SE that does not even have 90,000 miles on it, and then I started experiencing a shutter when driving between 25 and 50mph. It feels like you are driving over rumble sticks in the roadway, or an abnormal shaking. There is no warning light illuminated on my dashboard ex: engine light. If I take my foot of the accelerator pedal the shutter/shaking would stop or if I pushed on the accelerator to go faster, it will come out of the shutter/shaking also. While I was getting an oil change at the Toyota dealership, I spoke with the Toyota customer service representative about the closed recall (T-SB-0312-17) for this issue on 2012-2014 Toyota Camry's while doing research on this issue and I was told that Toyota has no plans on doing another recall because they have fixed the problem and I would have to have the car fixed myself which could cost upwards of $3,000.00 out of pocket. Why should a customer have to pay hundreds of dollars to have their car diagnosed for a known problem based on internet forums and other Toyota complaints. The engine light is not on, so a code may not even show up. I cannot afford to pay that, and Toyota should stand by their vehicles, stop giving customers the run around and do another recall as this is a big safety issue of faulty parts which can cause a major accident if the car loses power and stalls.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-06-15
- VIN: 4T1BF1FK8FU
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: The torque converted on the 2015 Camry is failing. This was a known defect on the 2012-2014 models. Toyota offered a recall on those models but not the 2015. Many other owners are also reporting a faulty torque converter on their cars. The is the exact same issue as the previous model year but Toyota is not covering the defect. This poses a major safety risk as acceleration is inconsistent and compromised while driving the vehicle. Eventually this will lead to complete transmission failure while driving the vehicle which again poses a major safety risk.
STEERING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-05-25
- VIN: 4T1BF1FK3FU
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: The steering is loose and rattles. Difficulty with car control over 40 mph. Mechanic said they didn't see a safety issue but there is a broken part in the steering mechanism. No warning lights.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-01-08
- VIN: 4T4BF1FK2FR
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: My 2015 Toyota Camry has been experiencing a shudder between the speeds of 30-40 MPH. I am now experiencing it between 50-60 MPR and it's a heavier shudder. I am learning from research that is the torque converter which was covered under warranty for Camrys made in 2012 to 2014 but NOT 2015. My car was purchased in January of 2015 so I consider this made under that recall time frame. My vehicle is starting to get worse and I don't know what will happen when it gets even worse. I have had my vehicle looked at by two mechanics who have told me this is what it is and to call Toyota about it. I am in that process right now. No warning lights have come on for this issue. This is very concerning and I am super disappointed so far seeing that Toyota has not warrantied the 2015 model year. I love my Camry minus this HUGE problem.

I recently purchased a Camry SE as a practical replacement for my Mercedes E 350, which wasn't meeting my needs. I must say, even though it doesn't have the weight, luxury, and AWD of a Mercedes, it's a pretty decent car for the money. It's comfortable, reliable, and the base radio in the SE is just as loud as the deluxe radio, without the complications. All controls are great, the 4 is peppy and sufficient on the road, and the braking is great. It came with Michelins, so the ride quality is fine. What I find impressive is the ride noise, which is very low, and the build quality. Everything is tight, the doors are heavy, and there are no loose bumper fittings. I have to say, it's better built and the parts fit with no wobble or creak. Compared to Honda, it's a great value and feels solid. I wouldn't even consider the Korean vehicles that use even cheaper materials.
-
I've had my 2015 SE since 4-17-15 and I absolutely love it! I rent cars for at least a month, so I've had the chance to drive a good portion of the new vehicles out there (except the Accord), and I have to say that the Camry is definitely my top pick. The interior of the Camry seems to have better quality materials, and the ride is incredibly smooth. The exterior is also quite stylish, making it an all-around great car for the price ($20,590).
-
The vehicle is good, but we could have opted for a better package. However, the road noise was very bad.

I recently replaced my 2001 Toyota Camry XLE, which I had bought brand new. After researching the current car models for the best in safety and reliability, I found that the Toyota Camry XLE was still in the top 10. The crash test ratings were very good! I had loved my 2001 and never had a car for 16.5 years before, so I test drove the 2015 Toyota Camry XLE one month ago and immediately bought the car. I absolutely love it and it drives great! It handles great on a very windy day and in the rain. It’s a sharp looking car! The 2015 Camry’s trunk is bigger! I like the V6 engine! The Blizzard Pearl exterior with light Ash gray leather interior is beautiful! This is my first car with all the dashboard electronics. I found it easy to follow the manual instructions to go through all the features and set up. I highly recommend this car!
-
This is absolutely the best car I've owned. It's great around town and really opens up quickly on the highway, making cruising a breeze!

Hi there! I noticed that my Toyota Camry SE 2015 is giving me less than 28 miles/gal on freeways, which is below their claim of 35 miles/gal. My neighbor, who also bought the same model at the same time as me, has the same issue. Have you experienced this too?
Bartholome Goldner 2024-09-13
The audio system on the 2016 XSE Camry has been checked by the dealer and is functioning normally. However, I understand that the sound quality may not meet everyone's expectations. Additionally, the leather seats may not be comfortable for some drivers. It's important to note that the 2014 rental Camry had a different stereo system, which may explain the difference in sound quality. As for the car being made in the USA, I believe that American manufacturing is of the highest quality. Thank you for your feedback.
Kris Simonis 2024-03-12
This car has not lived up to its reputation. However, after owning it for three years, I have identified some issues that need to be addressed. The acceleration has become weaker over time, which is frustrating when driving on the freeway. Despite my concerns, the dealer has not been able to identify any problems. Additionally, the front seats are quite stiff and uncomfortable. I also purchased the more expensive model with the 'premium stereo package', but the sound quality is disappointing. These issues need to be resolved to ensure that this car meets the high standards that it is known for.
Curt Schuster 2024-02-25
The ride is quite hard and noisy. I had to take it back within 30 days and was only advised to let some air out of the tires. Unfortunately, the car is quite windy and you can hear too much road noise. Additionally, highway fumes easily penetrate the car. There are some features that I find unacceptable, such as the poor seat adjustment and the navigation panel that cannot be seen with any amount of sunlight due to its position. The front side posts also block some of the view, which is a bad safety issue. The rear window is poorly designed, as it is sloped in a way that any amount of dust or build-up rain does not drain off, requiring the car to be washed by hand or at a car wash. The rear camera is also at times occluded by rain. Unfortunately, it does not have the same pep as my 2006 4 cylinder. I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the design features of this car, which I believe pose safety hazards. Although I got a good price on the car as it was an XLE loaner, I am now stuck with it. I am seriously considering selling it to CarMax and getting an older car. It is a very sad state of affairs, as the old Toyotas were made much better.
Nathen Gislason 2024-02-02
To truly understand the comfort level of a Camry, I would recommend renting one for a weekend or longer, rather than relying on a 15-minute test drive. While older Camry models were known for their reliability, the 2015 model falls short in this regard. The multi-adjusting driver's seat, while innovative, may not be as comfortable as one would hope due to the mechanics required to fit it in the car. Additionally, the glare from the dash can be distracting. It's important to note that everyone's experience with a car is different, and while this reviewer had a negative experience, others may have a positive one. It's always a good idea to do your research and take a long test drive before making a purchase. Toyota is a reputable brand with many satisfied customers, but it's important to find the right fit for you. Despite being a loyal Toyota owner for 20 years, I regret to say that my recent experience with the 2015 Camry has been disappointing. The uncomfortable ride has resulted in low mileage and has made it difficult for me to drive for extended periods of time. I had hoped that the newer models would have addressed this issue, but unfortunately, this was not the case. As a result, I have decided to end my relationship with Toyota. However, I do believe that Toyota is a reputable brand and may be a good fit for other drivers. Thank you for the opportunity to provide feedback on my experience.
