2014 Toyota Camry problems
The Toyota Camry (/ˈkæmri/; Japanese: トヨタ・カムリ Toyota Kamuri) is an automobile sold internationally by the Japanese auto manufacturer Toyota since 1982, spanning multiple generations. Originally compact in size (narrow-body), the Camry has grown since the 1990s to fit the mid-size classification (wide-body)—although the two widths co-existed in that decade. Since the release of the wide-bodied versions, Camry has been extolled by Toyota as the firm's second "world car" after the Corolla. As of 2022, the Camry is positioned above the Corolla and below the Avalon or Crown in several markets.
In Japan, Camry was once exclusive to Toyota Corolla Store retail dealerships. Narrow-body cars also spawned a rebadged sibling in Japan, the Toyota Vista (トヨタ・ビスタ)—also introduced in 1982 and sold at Toyota Vista Store locations. Diesel fuel versions have previously retailed at Toyota Diesel Store. The Vista Ardeo was a wagon version of the Vista V50.
Etymology
The name "Camry" derives from the Japanese word kanmuri (ja:冠, かんむり), meaning "crown". This follows Toyota's naming tradition of using the crown name for primary models starting with the Toyota Crown (1955), continuing with the Toyota Corona (1957) and Corolla (1966); the Latin words for "crown" and "small crown", respectively. Maintaining this theme was the Toyota Tiara (1960) named after the "tiara" form of crown. The Atara trim level name used on the Camry in Australia since 2011 means "crown" in Hebrew. The rebadged Camry variant for Japan, the Toyota Scepter (1991)—took its name from "scepter", a royal accessory to a crown.

Common 2014 Toyota Camry problems
The 2014 Toyota Camry is known for its comfort, serene cabin, spacious passenger accommodation, and amazing fuel economy. However, there are several common problems reported by owners of this car.
- AC/Heater Problems: The AC in the 2014 Toyota Camry may release a musty smell, which can be a problem for asthmatic patients. Some owners have reported that their A/C compressor failed to work after some time, and dealers may propose a replacement.
- 2014 Toyota Camry Engine Computer Problems: When the oxygen component sensor fails, the check engine light will turn on. The sensors detect the exhaust oxygen levels. Changes in temperature, altitude, humidity, and engine load will affect engine performance. Another issue related to the Toyota Camry engine control module is the failure of the car’s transmission to connect during driving, especially at high speeds. A quick fix would be to update the car’s software. A worn-out transmission may also fail to engage correctly when driving at high speeds.
- High Oil Consumption: The 2014 Toyota Camry makes some noise that is accompanied by high oil consumption. The case has been reported on new cars, and dealers are looking into the cause of rapid oil consumption.
- Steering Wheel Pump Leakage: The power steering pump may start to leak. The 2014 Toyota Camry leaking is an occurrence that will not miss it if you are unlucky. To repair such a leak is a challenge because the oil leak could be from different places.
- Purge Control Valve Failure: A failed EVAP purge control valve may not be a standard problem in Toyota Camry, but the moment you start noticing a rough idle check the purge valve because if it opens, it will create a vacuum that will cause leakage. The vacuum is what causes engine idle speed.
- Torque Converter Failure: The 2014 Camry may shudder at both high and low speeds and hang in there for a few seconds. It may look like a wheel balancing issue, but it is a torque converter failure. Flushing the transmission fluid may solve the problem.
- 2014 Camry Battery Issues: The 2014 Toyota Camry has a five-star crash test rating with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and a Top Safety Pick with the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. However, there have been recalls due to some failing safety features, including a fuel leakage that may increase the possibility of fire and a short circuit in the windshield wipers switch.
- Electrical System Failures: Major electrical system failures are a common complaint, with the problem likely being the soy-based wire coating attracting rodents. The 2014 Camry has just three recalls on file, one investigation, and fewer than 400 complaints. Those are excellent numbers for a car nearing its first decade on the road. Add to that, a perfect five-star overall crash test score with the NHTSA, and a Top Safety Pick award with the IIHS, and you’ve got one of the safest and most reliable used cars on the road today.
- Shaking Transmission: Powertrain complaints take the lead on the 2014 Camry’s NHTSA page, making up 81 of 389 total reports. The most common issue being reported: shaking and shuddering at around 30-45 mph.
In conclusion, while the 2014 Toyota Camry is a reliable and safe vehicle, it is not immune to common problems such as AC/Heater issues, engine computer problems, high oil consumption, steering wheel pump leakage, purge control valve failure, torque converter failure, battery issues, electrical system failures, and shaking transmission. Regular check-ups and maintenance can help prevent or address these issues.

I have to say, these new Camry's are great cars. I owned two Tacomas and two FJ Cruisers before this purchase, but I wanted something that actually got good gas mileage, which the new Camry certainly does. Don't doubt the V4, as it is plenty!

The interior is small and inexpensive, and the motor can be quite noisy. The plastic bumper is easily damaged by shopping carts and curbs. Additionally, there is no transmission dipstick, and the vision around the car is limited. The rear brake pads tend to stick and can damage the rotors.

At age 79, you have owned a lot of cars, but this 4 cylinder LE Camry is the best one yet! It has a great ride, a very quiet cabin, and a beautiful interior and exterior. Everything you see or touch oozes quality, and it is very reasonably priced. You don't even need to waste money on a V6 because the 4 cylinder does a great job. You won't regret buying the Camry. In comparison to the Malibu and Altima, the Camry is the clear winner. Thank you for sharing your experience with us!

The Etune radio bluetooth was faulty on my vehicle. As I researched the issue, I discovered that this is a common problem with Toyota vehicles. Unfortunately, Toyota does not offer support to solve this issue. I am still experiencing the same problem and cannot access Bluetooth due to the screen being off calibration.

Hello everyone! I wanted to share a tip with you all regarding your car's mpg. It's important to keep in mind that the car computer may not always be accurate. For example, in my 2014.5 Camry SE, I noticed that the speedometer said I was driving at 61-62 mph, but my GPS showed 59 mph. After driving 332 miles and putting in 10.155 gallons of gas, the car computer stated an average mpg of 35.2. However, I recommend doing your own manual calculation to ensure accuracy. Don't just rely on the car computer! :)

I drive for a living and I had hoped that this Camry would be my first car to reach 300,000 miles. However, it has turned out to be a money pit and I am having to trade it in at only 108,000 miles. Last month, the front wheel bearings went and it cost over $1000 to fix. Now, there are back wheel bearing and transmission problems that will cost over $2100 to fix. This is frustrating for a car that has been meticulously cared for. I primarily drive on the highway and take great care of my cars.

I am sorry to hear about the issues you faced with your Toyota Camry. It must have been uncomfortable to drive with a collapsing driver seat bottom. I hope you are feeling better now that you have replaced the seat. It is unfortunate that you had to go through this experience and it is understandable that you cannot recommend Toyota to anyone. Thank you for sharing your experience with us.
