The Toyota Camry (/ˈkæmri/; Japanese: トヨタ・カムリ Toyota Kamuri) is an automobile sold internationally by the Japanese auto manufacturer Toyota since 1982, spanning multiple generations. Originally compact in size (narrow-body), the Camry has grown since the 1990s to fit the mid-size classification (wide-body)—although the two widths co-existed in that decade. Since the release of the wide-bodied versions, Camry has been extolled by Toyota as the firm's second "world car" after the Corolla. As of 2022, the Camry is positioned above the Corolla and below the Avalon or Crown in several markets.

In Japan, Camry was once exclusive to Toyota Corolla Store retail dealerships. Narrow-body cars also spawned a rebadged sibling in Japan, the Toyota Vista (トヨタ・ビスタ)—also introduced in 1982 and sold at Toyota Vista Store locations. Diesel fuel versions have previously retailed at Toyota Diesel Store. The Vista Ardeo was a wagon version of the Vista V50.

Etymology

The name "Camry" derives from the Japanese word kanmuri (ja:冠, かんむり), meaning "crown". This follows Toyota's naming tradition of using the crown name for primary models starting with the Toyota Crown (1955), continuing with the Toyota Corona (1957) and Corolla (1966); the Latin words for "crown" and "small crown", respectively. Maintaining this theme was the Toyota Tiara (1960) named after the "tiara" form of crown. The Atara trim level name used on the Camry in Australia since 2011 means "crown" in Hebrew. The rebadged Camry variant for Japan, the Toyota Scepter (1991)—took its name from "scepter", a royal accessory to a crown.

Summary: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2014 Toyota Camry, Camry HV, Avalon, and Avalon HV vehicles equipped with 16-inch and 17-inch rims. In the affected vehicles, the left-side front suspension lower arm may have been incorrectly manufactured. As a result, the left side lower arm may not have enough clamping surface area for one of the bolts that secures the lower arm to the lower ball joint.
Consequence: Because of the insufficient clamping force, the lower arm may separate from the ball joint, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will replace the left side lower arm, free of charge. The recall began on December 12, 2014. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331.

Summary: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2014 Toyota Avalon, Camry, Sienna, and Highlander and model year 2015 Lexus RX350 vehicles. Fuel may leak from the one of the fuel delivery pipes in the engine compartment.
Consequence: A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.
Remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will replace any of the suspect fuel delivery pipes free of charge. The recall began November 17, 2014. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331.

Summary: Toyota Motor Engineering & manufacturing North America, Inc. (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Camry and Camry HV, model year 2013 Avalon and Avalon HV and model year 2014 Corolla vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the windshield wiper switch assembly may short circuit. As such, these vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard, No. 104, "Windshield Wiping and Washing Systems."
Consequence: A short circuit could cause inoperative windshield wipers, reducing driver visibility and increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will replace the wiper switch assembly, free of charge. The recall began on November 8, 2013. Owners may contact Toyota at 1-800-331-4331.

While I did my research and considered other options, I ultimately chose the Camry for its reliable automatic 6-speed transmission. However, after owning the car for a few months, I have noticed some issues with the build quality. The car is prone to rattling and cracking noises while driving over bumps, which can be quite annoying. Additionally, the plastic materials used in the car's interior feel cheap and flimsy. The car's paint is also quite thin and scratches easily. Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share an experience I had with my car. When I first bought it, there was no vibration at all, whether the A/C was on or off. However, at around 11,000 miles, I suddenly started experiencing vibrations that were so bad they were making me feel sick. When I brought it in to be looked at, I initially got the runaround and was told it was just the nature of the model. But I insisted they find the problem, and eventually spoke with the mechanic personally. He cleaned the throttle body, injectors, and realigned the motor and wishbone, which seemed to help but didn't completely solve the issue. It's still a bit irritating when the A/C is on. I suggested to the mechanic that it could be a faulty A/C compressor clutch, but he said that couldn't be it. I tried gently power-braking it just enough to bring it up about 50 RPM, and it felt much better. I'm thinking the computer may not be bringing the RPMs up high enough at idle. Has anyone else out there experienced similar issues? Thanks for your help!

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my 2014 Toyota Camry. Unfortunately, a couple of months after leasing it, I noticed a moldy/mildew smell coming from the air conditioner. When I took it in to be cleaned, I was told that this is a common issue with Camrys. Although the cleaning was only a temporary fix, I was hopeful that the problem would be resolved. However, when I turned on the air this spring, the smell was back and even worse than before. I reached out to Freeman Toyota, but they were unable to help me. I also contacted Toyota directly, but they stated that it was an environmental issue. As a result, my wife is unable to drive the car due to her allergies. I believe that Toyota should stand behind their customer satisfaction claim and either fix the problem or replace the car. Thank you for listening to my experience.

It offers a smooth and quiet ride on both urban and highway roads, with stable steering and handling. The electric assist power steering may not provide much feedback to the driver, but it's still a pleasure to drive. With an average city/highway mileage of around 28-29mpg, it's also quite fuel-efficient. On the highway, you can expect to get over 37mpg at 75mph and over 40mpg at 65mph. The rear legroom is excellent, even for taller passengers, and the trunk capacity is impressive. The Camry is equipped with the reliable 2AR-FE 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine, which provides just shy of 180 horsepower - more than enough for everyday driving. Unfortunately, the 4-cylinder models are not rated for towing. The engine runs quietly, and the transmission shifts smoothly at every speed and engine load. While the interior may not be as luxurious as that of the Honda Accord, it's still functional and straightforward, with simple controls for the HVAC and radio. Overall, the Toyota Camry is a great choice for anyone looking for a reliable and comfortable midsize sedan.Seats are comfortable and offer sufficient side bolstering. While the Toyota Camry is not a performance sedan designed for high-speed turns, it offers exceptional improvement in grip with the right tires (Cooper CS5 Ultra Touring) compared to the factory-equipped Michelin Energy Saver AS tires, which were terrible in the rain and had no traction even in light snow. Overall, the Toyota Camry is an enjoyable and pleasant car to drive for both short and long distances, with excellent outward visibility and no large blind spots. However, there is an issue with rust. I purchased the car with 19,800 miles from a Toyota dealer in April 2017 for a hair under $15k. Rust bubbles started to form around the body line between the rear bumper cover and right rear fender early spring 2018 when the car had less than 40,000 miles on it. The car had previously been involved in a minor accident which required bodywork to the steel on the right rear fender and bottom of the C-pillar. No where in any of the paperwork provided to me by the dealer did they mention that the car had been involved in an accident and the accident was not reported to CARFAX. After meeting with the sales manager, they agreed to pay for half of the bodywork to repair the rust. It is important to note that Toyota Certified Pre-Owned vehicles could have up to two separate areas of bodywork refinishing to qualify as Toyota CPO. Toyota is using misleading marketing tactics and falsely implying through misleading marketing techniques that leads consumers like myself to believe that Toyota CPO is somehow a “better” used vehicle than a non-CPO vehicle. Had I known that the car had been involved in an unreported accident, I would not have purchased it. I understand your frustration with Toyota CPO, but I would recommend considering other options before making a decision. Thank you for sharing your experience.

I've owned two Toyotas. The first one was a Cresita (not sure if I spelled it right), which was not too comfortable, but it was a great built car. My second one is a 2014 XLE with the 4-cylinder. It now has 12,500 miles, and I have had no problems with it. I find it very comfortable and love to take it on trips. I drove the 6-cylinder, which had more power than I needed. The 4-cylinder has plenty of power, even in the mountains of Colorado. I really like the manual automatic, which I use a lot. I was really surprised at how good it does on gas. The lowest I ever got was 32mpg, and the best was 45mpg. But it consistently gets about 38mpg. I would highly recommend this car to anyone. I now have 50,000 miles on the car, and I haven't done anything to it but change the oil and put on new tires. It still drives like new, still solid and quiet. I'm sure I will be driving it for another 5 years. I still love my Toyota.

I've owned this car for 6 years and have had zero mechanical issues. Although the touch screen is no longer 100% functional, there have been no other electrical problems. The car has over 90,000 miles and has had regular oil changes, brake fluid replacements, and coolant flushes. I also did a one-time treatment that removes carbon particles from the engine and replaced the battery once. The tires have been replaced twice and all work and service has been done at the dealership. The car drives like new and the components in the engine compartment look like new too. The reliability is simply incredible. The brakes could have been better for this car, but other than that, it's an excellent vehicle for long road trips. Here's a driving tip for any car with an auto transmission: please move the transmission lever to N when you're stopped at a light or in traffic to increase the life of your torque converter.

I'm 19 years old and I was looking for a reliable car that I could trust and feel safe in. I do a lot of driving each day from work and school, and often take many trips to Portland/Seattle. I previously owned a 2007 Volkswagen Jetta that I loved, but unfortunately kept having issues. So when I decided to take out a car loan, I did a lot of research on reliable vehicles and found my 2014 Toyota Camry LE at Wilsonville in Portland. I couldn't be any more pleased with this car. The MPG is great and it provides such a smooth and comfortable ride. Everyone is super impressed by the look of the interior of this car because it doesn't look cheap like some other vehicles. I hope to get plenty of years out of this car and I will definitely recommend Toyota to anyone!

After having a great experience with my 2001 4-cylinder Camry (which I still own - soon to be passed onto my sister (216,000 miles by the way!)), I just couldn't bring myself to purchase a new (to me) mid-size sedan that wasn't named Camry. While the Camry has always been called bland, and The 4-cylinder and 6-speed auto combination have been incredibly reliable in the month that I've owned the car, and changing the oil is still a breeze (although there are a couple of extra steps compared to my 2001 model). The engine is very peppy and will satisfy most drivers (although if you can, go for the 3.5!). Apart from the minor issue with seat comfort, I have no complaints about my 2014 Camry. I absolutely love it and look forward to driving it every day. I plan on keeping it for a long time, at least until it's paid off, and maybe even longer. There's a reason why people who have owned a Toyota once always buy them again - they're fantastic vehicles with a rock-solid reputation for reliability. The Camry may not be flashy, and yes, it's a popular choice, but that's because it's a great car. If you're in the market for a mid-size car, you should definitely consider the Camry.

I recently purchased a 2014 Camry L for the amazing price of $17,888. I find it to be incredibly comfortable and smooth, and a significant upgrade from my previous 2004 Camry in every aspect. While the Honda Accord is priced at over $21,000 even on sale, the Camry offers great value for money. The only downside I have experienced is the MPG, which is around 26 in town even with conservative driving. My old 2004 Camry had a better MPG of 29-30 in town, despite having a lower EPA mileage of 20 town/29 highway. However, the 2014 Camry has an EPA mileage of 25 town/35 highway, and I have achieved an impressive 40 MPG on the highway. Overall, I am very happy with my purchase and would highly recommend the Camry to anyone in the market for a reliable and comfortable car.
