Toyota Camry 2011 problems
The Toyota Camry (/ˈkæmri/; Japanese: トヨタ・カムリ Toyota Kamuri) is an automobile sold internationally by the Japanese auto manufacturer Toyota since 1982, spanning multiple generations. Originally compact in size (narrow-body), the Camry has grown since the 1990s to fit the mid-size classification (wide-body)—although the two widths co-existed in that decade. Since the release of the wide-bodied versions, Camry has been extolled by Toyota as the firm's second "world car" after the Corolla. As of 2022, the Camry is positioned above the Corolla and below the Avalon or Crown in several markets.
In Japan, Camry was once exclusive to Toyota Corolla Store retail dealerships. Narrow-body cars also spawned a rebadged sibling in Japan, the Toyota Vista (トヨタ・ビスタ)—also introduced in 1982 and sold at Toyota Vista Store locations. Diesel fuel versions have previously retailed at Toyota Diesel Store. The Vista Ardeo was a wagon version of the Vista V50.
Etymology
The name "Camry" derives from the Japanese word kanmuri (ja:冠, かんむり), meaning "crown". This follows Toyota's naming tradition of using the crown name for primary models starting with the Toyota Crown (1955), continuing with the Toyota Corona (1957) and Corolla (1966); the Latin words for "crown" and "small crown", respectively. Maintaining this theme was the Toyota Tiara (1960) named after the "tiara" form of crown. The Atara trim level name used on the Camry in Australia since 2011 means "crown" in Hebrew. The rebadged Camry variant for Japan, the Toyota Scepter (1991)—took its name from "scepter", a royal accessory to a crown.

Common Toyota Camry 2011 problems
The Toyota Camry 2011 model has been widely recognized for its outstanding performance and superior strength compared to other models in the same trim level. However, some owners have reported common problems related to the vehicle's automatic transmission, cooling system, and interior materials.
One of the most significant issues reported is the hesitation while accelerating, which is likely due to a defective transmission or a problem with the engine control module, particularly for the hybrid version. This issue can be frustrating for drivers and may require the expertise of a Toyota car dealership to resolve.
Another common problem with the 2011 Toyota Camry is issues with the automatic transmission and power train, although these are relatively uncommon. In some instances, owners have reported sudden acceleration, which has been linked to sticky floor mats preventing the gas pedals from returning to a neutral position. However, the frequency of these incidents is much lower than in previous generations.
The interior of the 2011 Toyota Camry has also been criticized for using inferior materials and a conservative design, which falls short compared to other trims like the Land Cruiser.
The cooling system of the 2011 Toyota Camry has also been a source of complaints, with some owners reporting issues with the cooling fan not working correctly. This issue can be easily fixed by a professional mechanic and is usually not very expensive to repair.
Overall, while the 2011 Toyota Camry is a reliable and dependable vehicle, some common problems have been reported by owners. These issues include hesitation while accelerating, problems with the automatic transmission and power train, sensitive driver aid systems, and issues with the cooling system. However, most of these issues can be resolved by a professional mechanic or a Toyota dealership.

- Summary: I own a 2011 Toyota Camry. The dashboard has begun to melt and is causing potential glare issues, making the windshield turn into a mirror. Toyota is aware of the issue, and offered to replace the part through a special service campaign, once in 2018 and in 2021, however, they did not send the notice to the correct address - which we confirmed with them was an outdated address. Since we just began having the problem with the vehicle, we contacted Toyota, however they are stating that they are no longer offering the repairs and that we will have to pay nearly $3000 to fix it ourselves, more than the car's trade in value.

- Summary: My car's VIN did not fall in the original recall of the sticky dashboard. Therefore, the dealership will not replace this without payment. I purchased the car from the dealership on a cloudy day, so I was not aware of this issue. I have increased light sensitivity and had to purchase polarized prescription sunglasses to see out my windshield every day, regardless of whether it is sunny or cloudy. If someone else drives my car, they can not see during daylight hours. It lessens during nighttime but is still a persistent issue otherwise. We've resorted to looking at coverlays to secure over the dash due to my inability to safely drive.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-02-20
- VIN: 4T4BF3EK9BR
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE
- Summary: My 2011 Toyota Camry LE (2.5L, 2WD, 4 cylinder, automatic transmission) has been experiencing problems with oil consumption. I have to add a quart of oil between oil changes (add 1 quart every 2000 miles). I'm using the recommended oil type (OW-20). Also, I'm experiencing loud rattling noises coming from the engine after cold start up. The noise is very loud and usually quiets down after driving for about 5 minutes or so. These issues are very common for people who own this particular model. I'm wondering if there was a recall that I perhaps may have missed or wasn't informed on. This is a well known issue for toyota drivers. Something needs to be done to address these issues.

It is so sticky that when I tried to use rags to wipe off, my rag got stick to the surface. Specially in a hot summer day it almost seems like the surface is melting. Sometime I feel like, some of my medical issues may be related to this too. Because recently I stop driving this car for work (which I usually do a 1.25 hrs commute} and some of my issues reduced quite considerably. I talked to toyota and they told me that they did had a recall for this issue but Since during that time I just barely bought this vehile with a small dealership, they never informed me and I never received any mail . But they said they send me in the mail. Now they said that recall duration is over and there is nothin they can do about it. So I am stuck with this sticky dashboard. I will appreciate if you can advise me

- Summary: Subject: Concern Regarding Toyota Camry 2011 LXE Dashboard Issue - VIN: [XXX] Dear NHTSA, I hope this email finds you well. I am writing to express my concerns regarding a significant safety issue with the dashboard of my Toyota Camry 2011 LXE, VIN: [XXX] . We purchased this vehicle brand new and have maintained it diligently over the years. However, we have never received any recall notices concerning this issue, despite the dealer's claim that they were sent. The problem we are experiencing with our vehicle's dashboard is a sticky and peeling surface. Over time, the dashboard's material has deteriorated, becoming sticky and disintegrating. This poses a hazardous situation while driving, affecting both the aesthetics of the vehicle and safety due to impaired visibility and potential distraction. While I understand that Toyota has recognized this problem in other Toyota Camry vehicles and initiated a recall, our vehicle's VIN has been excluded from the recall list. We strongly believe that this issue is systemic and not confined to a specific range of VINs, and thus, our car should also be included in the recall. We kindly request the NHTSA's assistance in ensuring that our concerns are addressed promptly. We urge you to investigate the matter further and encourage Toyota to extend the recall to include our vehicle and others facing a similar issue. It is crucial to uphold safety and quality standards for automobiles in the United States, prioritizing the well-being of drivers and passengers. Furthermore, we would appreciate your guidance on the process to formally address this issue with Toyota. Our previous attempts to resolve the matter directly with the manufacturer have been unsuccessful, as they denied our request to include our vehicle in the recall. If you could provide information on the necessary steps to escalate our case or mediate with the manufacturer, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your attention on this INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-03-14
- VIN: 4T1BF3EK1BU
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: The Camry is experiencing oil burning intake Manifold. On 14JUL22 at 163,286 miles the red light oil can drip light comes on and off in my dashboard. I take to Toyota of Freeman, they do the oil change and that is it. Then, at 168,786miles, within 4 months the red oil can drip light on my dashboard light comes on again. I go back to Toyota of Freeman the service rep. tells me that this problem will cost me between $3,500-$4,000. I went to another mechanic that is certified by Toyota and he said the problems is Piston Oil Ring needs to be replace. He called all the Toyota Parts looking for the Piston oil ring that is for the oil consumption. He stated nobody has it. In the meanwhile, every 1,000 to 3,000 miles my car runs, I have to check the oil stick not to burn all the way, because the engine will catch on fire. This is a very big safety issue that needs to be looked at. When I purchase Toyota, I went base on that this car will last up 250,000 like all of my Toyota cars had lasted in my past. I called Toyota HDQ and they is no recall for this issue but yes for Camry Hybrid 2007-2011 and a different engine. As i was doing my research in YouTube.com It seems there are more Camry with this same issue. This is a safety issue, if I ever forget to check my oil stick to see if I still have oil the car will get on fire. I believe Toyota has a manufacturing issue with the Piston Oil Ring not being available to repair the issue. This is high risk situation. They need to supply the part or fix the issue. This a liability issue.

- Manufacturer: Southeast Toyota Distributors, LLC
- Components: SEATS:FRONT ASSEMBLY:SEAT HEATER/COOLER

The affected vehicles may experience compression of the seat cushion which may damage the seat heater wiring.
- Consequence: Damage to the seat heater wiring could cause the wires to short, increasing the risk of the seat burning and causing personal injury to the occupant.
- Remedy: SET will notify owners, and dealers will disconnect the heaters with copper strand heating elements and refund the purchase price of the seat heater accessory, free of charge. The recall is expected to began in January 2015. Owners may contact SET customer service at 1-866-405-4226.

In the affected vehicles, the rubber boot on the front suspension lower arm ball joint may have been damaged during manufacturing. The damage could cause the boot to leak lubricant grease which could then cause the ball joint to wear and loosen prematurely.
- Consequence: A loosened ball joint may separate from the knuckle and could cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the ball joint, free of charge. The recall began on December 16, 2014. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331.

These vehicles were sold with labels that were outside the allowable one percent of accuracy of actual weight added. Thus, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) Number 110, "Tire Selection and Rims."
- Consequence: An inaccurate label could lead to owners overloading their vehicles and tires. An overloaded vehicle can result in a tire failure which may result in a vehicle crash, personal injury, or property damage.
- Remedy: Southeast Toyota will notify owners and provide a corrected label with instructions concerning its installation. A small group of the affected vehicles will need additonal remedies which are still being developed. The recall began on May 28, 2013. Owners may contact Southeast Toyota at 1-800-301-6859.

- Components: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:SENSOR/CONTROL MODULE-INACTIVE

This could increase the risk of personal injury during the event of a vehicle crash necessitating airbag deployment.
- Remedy: Southeast Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will test the sensitivity of the occupant detection sensors, and recalibrate them as necessary. The recall began on March 21, 2013. Owners may contact Southeast Toyota at 1-800-301-6859.

Having a tire pressure warning light as a feature of this automobile is very convenient. However, after 7 years and 73,000 miles, the warning light goes on and stays on, causing the dashboard to appear to be reporting something that needs attention. I learned that the air in the tires was exactly right. However, the warning light stays on because the sensors in two of the tires are worn out and need to be replaced. Unfortunately, it costs about $100 per tire to have this fixed. I can understand why some people may not like this feature because it stops working over time.

This car is really comfortable with a smooth ride and it's extremely quiet. Although it's not the most exciting car, it's perfect for families. We chose the black model for a touch of excitement. We just got it, but we're very pleased with the safety features such as brake assist, VSC, TRAC, seven airbags, and an accelerator cut off that come standard in the 2011 Camry. My only complaint is that in 2011, it shouldn't be difficult to include keyless entry, a manual seat with decent adjustment options, and more trip information on the base model. Toyota could learn from Hyundai, who includes a lot of nice features as standard. Nevertheless, we still went with Toyota for obvious reasons. It's definitely a great buy.
-
This car is everything as promised. It's very comfortable and quiet, and with the 6-speed manual, it's also fun to drive. While the suspension is a bit soft, it's still quite good for a base model. Overall, I'm really pleased with it!
-
I purchased this car in January 2014 and since then, I have only needed to do an oil change. I am impressed with how error-free it has been. I particularly love the sequential shift and how well it handles in the snow. However, I do find the seats uncomfortable. While the transmission shifts hard when releasing gas at highway speeds, it is very responsive and gets sporty when driving aggressively. The handling could be improved as the steering is slow and un-athletic. On the bright side, changing the lights (interior) is very easy and everything normally pops out with a screwdriver. The headlights are also simple to change.
-
I really love this car! It handles well in the city and is quite comfortable on the highway, especially since I replaced the factory tires which weren't that great. The driver's seat is very comfortable and provides good visibility. I have had this car for 3 years and have not had a single issue. The interior is super functional and easy to use. I even use the aux input for my iPad and Sandisk MP3 player. My son has a Honda Accord (same year) and I personally prefer the Camry's ride, handling, and interior. In my opinion, the Accord drives rougher and steers harder. It's tough to improve on this Camry!

Hi there! You can pick her up on 8-10-10. She's been well taken care of and has 77,400 miles on her. I previously owned a 2007 Camry LE V6 and drove her up until 185K before the transmission went out. Just recently, I bought 4 new tires for her at 62k and she's still running strong with no problems. I'm glad Toyota changed the 4 cyl to 2.5 L and changed the old trans from 5 spd to 6 spd. Although it's not as fast as the V6, it still gets up and moves. Thank you for considering her!

It seems like my car is using way too much oil. At 67,000 miles, it's using 3 to 4 quarts every 1,400 miles. Toyota told me that 1.1 quarts every 600 miles is okay, but that seems like a lot. They also said that 0W20 only needs to be changed every 10,000 miles, which means I would use a little over 19 quarts between oil changes. I'm really frustrated with this car.

The Camry is a great choice if you know what you're looking for. It has a smooth ride, ample power for daily use, and a stylish design that rivals its competitors, namely the Accord and Sonata. While it may not be a sports car, the V6 engine provides a thrilling driving experience. If you're in the market for a reliable and practical vehicle, the Camry is definitely worth considering. Additionally, the sunroof, premium wheels, and dual exhaust are must-have accessories that add to the overall appeal of the car.
