2017 Ram Promaster city problems
The Fiat Doblò is a panel van and leisure activity vehicle produced by Italian automaker Fiat since 2000. It was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in October 2000. A second-generation Doblò succeeded the original vehicle in 2010 for most markets, and it was sold in the United States as the RAM ProMaster City from 2015 to 2022. The second generation was also sold in Europe and the UK as the Opel/Vauxhall Combo. The third-generation Doblò, a rebadged version of the Citroën Berlingo, was unveiled in June 2022, and is also sold as the Opel or Vauxhall Combo, Peugeot Partner, and Toyota ProAce.
First generation (2000)
It was first launched to the public in the Netherlands, and received the "2006 International Van of the Year" award by an international jury from 19 countries. In Singapore, a 1.4 litre LAV variant is marketed as the Fiat Panorama in five and seven seater versions. The first Doblò was sold in January 2001.
The Doblò carries a payload of up to 730 kg (1,609 lb), with an interior volume of 3.2 cubic metres (110 cu ft). The Doblò uses Fiat Strada's platform, in turn derived from the Fiat Palio's one, using a rigid axle with leaf springs at the rear, instead of a torsion beam with coil springs as on the Palio.
It is manufactured by Fiat's Tofaş subsidiary factory in Bursa, Turkey, in Brazil since 2002 and in Russia and Vietnam. Turkish models have an engine range that includes a 1.4 litre petrol, a 1.9 litre MultiJet, and a 16 valve 1.3 litre MultiJet.
In North Korea, Pyonghwa Motors produces Doblò branded as its own name Ppeokkugi.
The facelift version came in October 2005, and was restyled with modifications to the front and rear light groups, and the total design of the front part.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-27
- VIN: 3C6TRVAG5HE
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE
- Summary: There’s already a recall on the engine cooling fans. I was driving on the freeway when the cooling g fans failed causing overheating and major damage to the engine, specifically the head gasket, thermostat, and radiator. I took it to the dealer after finding out about the recall. They replaced the fans but are still not working correctly. They also refused to repair the other damages that were caused due to the recall part failure. I use my vehicle for work and have been unable to work for more than 2 weeks now due to the damages and have had to decline a lot of work in that time. This is affecting my livelihood. So far the dealer and manufacturer have only wanted to charge me for any additional diags or repairs when my vehicle was running great until this incident. The vehicle is unsafe to drive and the recall report stated the engine could catch fire. I took my vehicle to the dealer, a second time to see what they could do for me, Just to find out, they only wanted to charge me for multiple diagnostic diagnosis and would have me wait. At least a week before they could even begin touching my vehicle also refusing to give me a loaner vehicle in the meantime.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-28
- VIN: 3C6TRVAG5HE
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE
- Summary: What happened: While driving on the freeway, the engine cooling fans failed, causing the engine temperature to rise excessively and increasing pressure within the cooling system. This resulted in a hole being blown through the thermostat, and all the coolant leaked out. Only after the coolant was lost did the engine overheating warning lamp come on. I safely pulled over, but the engine had already overheated severely. I was unable to drive the vehicle for a week while waiting for the dealer to replace the cooling fans under the recall. After the recall repair was completed, I picked up my vehicle from the dealer. On my way home, I noticed a loss of power, poor acceleration, and engine shaking, especially after the engine had been off for a few hours. I replaced the thermostat and radiator myself, but I believe the overheating caused internal engine damage, potentially a blown head gasket, cracked, or warped heads. Additionally, before taking the vehicle back to the dealer, I noticed the newly installed cooling fans (replaced under the recall) stopped working again. Despite all these issues clearly being related to the initial fan failure and overheating, the dealer is now charging me for further repairs and is not addressing the underlying problem with the cooling system. The fact that the cooling fans have a recall due to failure and have caused other issues are trying to tell me I’m responsible. They wouldn’t give me a loaner vehicle while they were performing the initial recall repair or now since I’ve taken it back.

- Fire: 1
- VIN: 3C6TRVDG5HE
- Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EQUIPMENT
- Summary: The contact owned a 2017 Ram 2500. The fire department was called to the scene and extinguished the flames. During the failure, the vehicle was destroyed. A fire report was taken at the scene and the vehicle was towed to a local holding yard. The fire department indicated that the fire originated in the center dashboard of the vehicle. The exact cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-05-29
- VIN: 3C6URVJG9HE
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
- Summary: 2017, 119,000 miles. 8/9/18: maintenance transmission service at 62,651 miles. 6/4/20 Recall WOO shifter cable replaced. 11/11/21 AGM Interstate battery MTX-49 replaced. ISSUE: End of May 2022 (~117,000 miles) had driven from Florida & back 2x without any problems but was slowing down by taking my foot off the gas for exit ramp - the engine started roaring louder & the vehicle apparently had shifted to ?neutral - pulled off the road & shifted to P & then to D & drove on home without any further problem. That was #1 occurrence & I took it to a transmission shop in July (had not had the problem again) to see what they thought. They did road test, fluid check & scan of control modules for trouble codes/errors & analyzed data stream for inconsistencies - found no error codes or inconsistencies. Incidentally, have been having some type of parasitic draw on my new battery for the past year. Occurrence #2: almost a year later April 2023 I am driving up to 55 mph running errands & I slow down to 45 mph & the engine starts to roar & the van is coasting & the light up area of P-R-N-D backlight is not lit up that is normally lit up & no check codes/warnings have appeared - everything else including front drivers light panel all normally lit. I pull off into a parking lot, put in park, turn it off, then turn back on (still with unlit gear display) & I put in drive & it runs normally around the parking lot & the remaining way home.I have driven it locally for 40-60 miles each time with intermittent stops for about 4-5 times since then & can’t replicate the problem again. Incidentally still parasitic draw on battery. 1) could replaced shifter cable be a problem? 2) fuse #38 problem causing loss of power to solenoids? 3) transmission range sensor failing causing it to fall out of gear? 4) transmission control module problem? 5) solenoid problem? 6) worn/broken transmission bands? 7) worn out gears? - some cause putting into “limp mode”? This is dangerous situation?
POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-05-28
- VIN: 3C6URVJG7HE
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
- Summary: Was not notified that my Ram Promaster 2017 needed two recalls when purchasing it from an official Ram dealership in 2020 with 35k miles on it. Now, at 90k miles I'm having to replace a radiator and cables that failed as a result of the coolant fan being replaced. Took it to two separate shops (first shop couldn't lift it) which both confirmed that my radiator experienced failure and caused electrical faults including blowing a 60amp fuse because this part was not replaced. I never was notified by Ram over the phone regarding this issue or from the dealership I purchased it from. Now, I'm having to pay a lot out of pocket to repair these parts (because I can't get my vehicle into any Ram dealership in the area for over a month) and having a third party, high quality mechanic do the repairs instead. I had to also pay to have the vehicle towed to the shop at my own expense as the vehicle had the check engine light on and was deemed by the first mechanic to not be safe to drive. I will upload files of the repair costs once the repairs are complete. $315 tow, $300 in diagnosing fees that won't be covered, and $1600 out of pocket for repairs is what I'm looking at. If I didn't have a 3rd party extended warranty, it would cost me close to $5k for repairs.

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-11-19
- VIN: 3c6trvcg5he
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: parking brake did not fully release (with no apparent signs). drove 20 miles, brake warning lights went on about 18 miles in to the drive. Pulled up to gas pump with rear wheels (unknowingly) glowing red. $6000 damage incurred, could have easily been an explosion at the pumps. Dealer purchased extended warrantee says nothing that fails due to "rust" is covered. Manufacturer has changed the design of the failed part but takes no responsibility, or issued advisory statements or recall. I purchased this vehicle brand new, am meticulous on upkeep and keeping it clean. All scheduled maintenance has been with the dealer. There were 3 other Promasters in the dealer lot who had the same issues.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-08-25
- VIN: 3C6TRVDG3HE
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING
- Summary: We purchased 4 of these Dodge promasters about 4 years ago. During the first year we were replacing headlights about every 2 months. Dodge told us that we needed to use their "heavy duty" bulbs. These bulbs seem to last about 1 year. They have a 2 year warranty on original purchase, so after 2 years we have to pay again. This last time the bulb blew it also melted the housing the bulbs sits in. We were required to replace the assembly and the bulbs. I believe Dodge has a voltage issue causing premature bulb failure and now creating a fire hazard. Headlights should not burn out in a year!

2017 Ram Promaster city recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 3 recalls for different components of the 2017 Ram Promaster city.
- Manufacturer: Chrysler (FCA US LLC)
- Components: EQUIPMENT
- Summary: Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling various Dodge, Chrysler, and RAM vehicles equipped with Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' Fire Extinguishers. A list of the affected trailer models is available at: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17V824-0103.pdf. These extinguishers may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or requiring excessive force to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. For a full list of the affected fire extinguisher models visit: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17E062-5427.pdf
- Consequence: If the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury in the event of a fire.
- Remedy: Chrysler will notify owners instructing them to contact Kidde for a replacement fire extinguisher, free of charge. The recall began February 14, 2018. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403 or Kidde customer service service toll-free at 1-855-262-3540, or online at www.kidde.com and click on "Product Safety Recall" for more information. Chrysler's number for this recall is T82.

As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 110, "Tire Selection and Rims."
- Consequence: The incorrect tire placard can cause the operator to exceed the vehicle's weight capacity, or inflate the tires to an incorrect pressure, affecting vehicle handling, which can increase the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will replace the incorrect tire placard with a corrected one, free of charge. The recall began November 17, 2017. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is T62.

Very versatile for a small vehicle, snow handling poor. Turn off your traction control if you're stuck. Center console poorly designed but door bottle holders even the score. Needs a digital speedometer. Radio reception is often spotty. I outfitted with dual locking ladder racks, alot of noise but to be expected. Tow hitch and light connector with a 8in. Lift tow adapter works great. Tows smooth, good visibility with mirrors but tranny shift is prolonged, probably to be expected. Wall mounted tool boxes left and right and a $50 universal rubber mat. Always buy good seat covers and great floor liners(weather tech) for any vehicle you are going to keep. You won't be disappointed!!! Great value and performance. There are over a million and a half European cousins of this vehicle driving around. So it's not really new or untried, just the North American version 2014 to 2015 not so good. Redesigned 2016 to 2017 models seem overall great for the price. Consider the wagon version, even if you want to work out of it. You will get insulation rear seats and a whole lot more options an versatility for a few thousand dollars more. Also bought a full size spare tire with jack and hanger/installation kit for piece of mind, made the dealer pay half. Driving 1110 miles one way in 2 days from now towing a 4x8 harbor freight folding trailer with a 600lb load. Then 20 min to seperate the trailer into two halves that fit into the back of van, preventing me from towing a light/empty trailer 1110 miles back. That's versatility! Smart vehicle saves me gas, repairs and expensive tires for the work truck. Savings comparison to 1/2 ton work truck equal the cost of this van over a 5 year per period. Do the math, you won't be disappointed.

This is a very well-engineered vehicle. As a builder and mechanic of 45 years, I have worked on many vehicles, but this one surpasses any I have owned or operated. I have read the full Edmonds review, and in terms of engineering quality, torque with the 9-speed transmission, and economy, it outperforms previous year's models and makes. Everything works perfectly, and I have had no quality issues with the dealership that sold me my vehicle. Eric Schram, my salesperson at Pinckney Chrysler, got me a smoking hot deal so fast and straightforward that I was in utter shock. He presented their offer and financing on my trade-in deal so simply that I couldn't be more pleased. Even my current lender wasn't able to match their timing and opportunity. Thank you all very much!

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to address a small concern I have about this otherwise fantastic minivan. During the day, I'm having a bit of trouble seeing the speedometer and tachometer. Even at night with the lights on high, they're still a bit difficult to make out. I've never had this issue with any other car or van I've owned. However, I can read the items in the info box at the bottom center with no problem. My wife and I are planning to turn this into a camper and go sightseeing, so I'm going to try to find a way to shed more light on the subject. Thanks for your understanding!

We are thrilled with our 2016 Ram ProMaster City! As of December 2020, we have driven nearly 60,000 miles and have had very few repairs. The van runs great and has been a reliable and economical choice for us. We even converted it into a live-in camper van and it has exceeded our expectations. Despite carrying over 1,000 pounds of additional weight with all our gear, the van still zips around quickly and quietly. We have added many features, including a fresh water tank, grey water tank, sink, bed/storage, cabinets, a lithium-iron phosphate battery and isolator, inverter, and more. We couldn't be happier with our purchase and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a true friend on the road!

This vehicle lacks a CD/DVD player and the front seats do not recline. Additionally, there is no lever as in other vehicles I have owned or driven in over the past 45 years. There have been three recalls, and the jack that comes with the spare tire (which must be purchased separately) is unable to lift the rear wheels off the ground. Despite these issues, I am confident in my decision not to purchase this vehicle again.

Hello! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my 2017 Ram Procity Master that I purchased from a dealership. As a contractor, I was looking for a more economical vehicle and this one seemed like a good fit. However, after driving it for a little over a year and putting 23,000 miles on it, I've noticed a few issues. The engine seems to consume at least a quart of oil every 3500 miles, which is a bit concerning. Additionally, I've noticed that the padding underneath the passenger seat gets soaking wet every time it rains, and the dealer hasn't been able to figure out why. Lastly, the seat is starting to wear where I normally sit, but unfortunately, the repair isn't covered. Overall, I wouldn't recommend purchasing a Chrysler product based on my experience. Thank you for listening!

This is why I will never buy a Dodge again. Despite multiple attempts to fix the issues, including two transmission replacements during a single visit, the truck has spent a total of three months in the shop. It is clear that Dodge produces a very poor product, and I cannot in good conscience recommend it to anyone.

City vans are a great idea for companies that don't need full size vans for their deliveries. However, it's important that they are reliable in order to be useful. Unfortunately, this particular vehicle has not been reliable. As an employee of a large healthcare company, I can attest that all of our branches have experienced the same problems, including bad coils, transmission failures, and excessive oil consumption. While FCA makes some attractive products, they have always had reliability issues, regardless of ownership. It's disappointing that this is still acceptable to them.

I spent $1400.00 on repairs to the AC system. As per the warranty policy, I contacted the company we bought it from. I am confident that they will respond to my call soon.
