Ram Promaster city problems

The Fiat Doblò is a panel van and leisure activity vehicle produced by Italian automaker Fiat since 2000. It was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in October 2000. A second-generation Doblò succeeded the original vehicle in 2010 for most markets, and it was sold in the United States as the RAM ProMaster City from 2015 to 2022. The second generation was also sold in Europe and the UK as the Opel/Vauxhall Combo. The third-generation Doblò, a rebadged version of the Citroën Berlingo, was unveiled in June 2022, and is also sold as the Opel or Vauxhall Combo, Peugeot Partner, and Toyota ProAce.
First generation (2000)
It was first launched to the public in the Netherlands, and received the "2006 International Van of the Year" award by an international jury from 19 countries. In Singapore, a 1.4 litre LAV variant is marketed as the Fiat Panorama in five and seven seater versions. The first Doblò was sold in January 2001.
The Doblò carries a payload of up to 730 kg (1,609 lb), with an interior volume of 3.2 cubic metres (110 cu ft). The Doblò uses Fiat Strada's platform, in turn derived from the Fiat Palio's one, using a rigid axle with leaf springs at the rear, instead of a torsion beam with coil springs as on the Palio.
It is manufactured by Fiat's Tofaş subsidiary factory in Bursa, Turkey, in Brazil since 2002 and in Russia and Vietnam. Turkish models have an engine range that includes a 1.4 litre petrol, a 1.9 litre MultiJet, and a 16 valve 1.3 litre MultiJet.
In North Korea, Pyonghwa Motors produces Doblò branded as its own name Ppeokkugi.
The facelift version came in October 2005, and was restyled with modifications to the front and rear light groups, and the total design of the front part.

Common Ram Promaster city problems
The Ram ProMaster City has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from its owners. The worst model year for this vehicle is 2015, with the most overall complaints, particularly in the category of accessories and interior problems.
Another significant problem reported by owners is the inability to obtain a new key fob from dealerships, which has been a persistent issue since 2018.
The hood prop retaining clip is another common problem, breaking easily and costing around $12 to replace. However, the short hood prop length often requires the use of hands to hold the hood up while working on the engine.
The uConnect infotainment system has also been reported to have issues, such as booting into a blank screen, becoming unresponsive to touch, or rebooting at random times, forcing owners to restart their vehicles and hope for a better outcome.
Lastly, the transmission in the Ram ProMaster City has been criticized for its clunky performance, especially at low speeds. With very light acceleration at very low speeds, it often seems to almost "sputter" as though it's about to stall, which is a significant issue for a truck designed for city driving.
In summary, the Ram ProMaster City has faced several common problems, including cooling fan relay malfunctions, inability to obtain new key fobs, oil consumption issues, problems with the uConnect infotainment system, and clunky transmission performance at low speeds. These issues have contributed to the vehicle's overall reliability rating, which ranks 2nd out of 21 for commercial vans, but has higher than average ownership costs due to the average annual repair cost of $795.
Is Ram ProMaster City reliable?
According to RepairPal, Ram Promaster City owners bring their vehicles into a repair shop for unscheduled repairs an average of 1.8 times per year, compared to an average of 1.8 times for Commercial Vans and 1.3 times for all the vehicles RepairPal considered in its dataset.

Ram Promaster city 2017
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-27
- Date Complaint: 2024-09-13
- VIN: 3C6TRVAG5HE
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE
- Summary: There’s already a recall on the engine cooling fans. I was driving on the freeway when the cooling g fans failed causing overheating and major damage to the engine, specifically the head gasket, thermostat, and radiator. I took it to the dealer after finding out about the recall. They replaced the fans but are still not working correctly. They also refused to repair the other damages that were caused due to the recall part failure. I use my vehicle for work and have been unable to work for more than 2 weeks now due to the damages and have had to decline a lot of work in that time. This is affecting my livelihood. So far the dealer and manufacturer have only wanted to charge me for any additional diags or repairs when my vehicle was running great until this incident. The vehicle is unsafe to drive and the recall report stated the engine could catch fire. I took my vehicle to the dealer, a second time to see what they could do for me, Just to find out, they only wanted to charge me for multiple diagnostic diagnosis and would have me wait. At least a week before they could even begin touching my vehicle also refusing to give me a loaner vehicle in the meantime.
Ram Promaster city 2017
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-28
- Date Complaint: 2024-09-11
- VIN: 3C6TRVAG5HE
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE
- Summary: What happened: While driving on the freeway, the engine cooling fans failed, causing the engine temperature to rise excessively and increasing pressure within the cooling system. This resulted in a hole being blown through the thermostat, and all the coolant leaked out. Only after the coolant was lost did the engine overheating warning lamp come on. I safely pulled over, but the engine had already overheated severely. I was unable to drive the vehicle for a week while waiting for the dealer to replace the cooling fans under the recall. After the recall repair was completed, I picked up my vehicle from the dealer. On my way home, I noticed a loss of power, poor acceleration, and engine shaking, especially after the engine had been off for a few hours. I replaced the thermostat and radiator myself, but I believe the overheating caused internal engine damage, potentially a blown head gasket, cracked, or warped heads. Additionally, before taking the vehicle back to the dealer, I noticed the newly installed cooling fans (replaced under the recall) stopped working again. Despite all these issues clearly being related to the initial fan failure and overheating, the dealer is now charging me for further repairs and is not addressing the underlying problem with the cooling system. The fact that the cooling fans have a recall due to failure and have caused other issues are trying to tell me I’m responsible. They wouldn’t give me a loaner vehicle while they were performing the initial recall repair or now since I’ve taken it back.

After driving it 3080 miles and checked the oil level after letting the vehicle sit over night. The oil level was down almost 2 quarts. I contacted the dealer and told them what happened and they mentioned that there was a recall for some Promaster City vans. I looked up the information and found the recall marked as W80. I contacted Chrysler and they said our vehicle isnt listed and to contact the NHTSA. It has the same problems and is losing the oil in the same amounts as specified in the recall but for some reason, our VIN isnt listed in the recall.

Vehicle year: 2017
I've rented this van three times now and, until this current time, I noticed some comfort features lacking. First off, I'm a repair guy and I own an Avalanche truck, which can pack all my tools and pull a trailer no problem. MPG is my problem. So, the first time I rented one was in December of 2015, right after they came out. I also have a catering company and my truck was in the shop. It handled my equipment well and I was pleased. The second time, I had to pack my daughter for college and drive about 500 miles. I got about 27mpg, and that was mostly freeway. This last time, I noticed things that I hadn't before. There is a lack of two armrests, which seems like it should be commonplace, especially for a cargo van. The ability to rest your arms on the door armrest area is just a bit too far away. Your forearm is on it but your elbow is off, and if you shift towards the door, your I rented the cargo version which unfortunately doesn't have second row seats. However, the cargo area has a nice 12vdc plug which is a great feature. It's worth noting that the two plugs in the front are not 'live' unless the key is on, so you can't charge phones, tablets, etc. unless the van is on, which is a bit of a bummer. The standard rims and tires are also a bit weak. I've been searching for a van like this for the past year, but unless the Tradesman SLT has more comfort features, I'm not completely sold. On the plus side, I do like the towing feature, which is not compatible with the Chevy and Nissan but is with the Transit. As I'm on the road all day with a co-worker, these minor details are actually major for me.

I needed an extra work vehicle and luckily my brother owns a dealership that does a lot of business with Enterprise Rentals. He offered me this van at what I thought was a great deal. While I'm still getting used to it, I'm hopeful that it will be a good fit for my needs. Admittedly, it took me a while to get used to the gas pedal, but I'm slowly getting the hang of it. I've noticed that every morning, especially if it's damp outside, the brakes seem to be a bit sensitive, which can be a bit startling. However, my brother's mechanic has checked them and confirmed that they're in good condition. I'm looking forward to taking it to the dealership for a more thorough inspection and hopefully any issues can be resolved. Overall, I'm optimistic about this van and excited to see how it performs for my work needs.

Late one night, I was researching minivans on YouTube from the comfort of my own home when I stumbled upon the Ram Promaster City Wagon. My wife wanted a stow-and-go style mini, which made me cringe, but this van caught my attention. We had already looked at and test-driven several other vans, including C, D, H, K, and T models, but they all came with a hefty price tag of $33k+. Two weeks later, we had a new Ram City Wagon SLT parked in our driveway. It was a great value for the money. We've now owned our Ram Promaster City Wagon SLT for almost three weeks and have already put 2400 miles on the clock. We absolutely love it! The ride, handling, gas mileage, and interior space are all fabulous. Our wagon came with a long list of options, including heated seats, a backup camera with rear audible sensors, fog lamps, aluminum wheels, electric windows and doors (with child-proof lockouts in the rear), an adjustable steering wheel, electric adjustable heated mirrors, a rear wiper/washer with defroster, and the Uconnect radio, which is far superior to our Mylink on our GM. The front overhead storage shelf is also awesome. For those with babies or toddlers, there are a total of eight cup/bottle holders: two in the front doors, one in the rear door, and two in the center console. The headroom, shoulder room, and legroom in both the front and back are great. The front doors offer easy access to the front seats, which are equipped with turn knobs to adjust the seat recliner with lumbar support. Unfortunately, there is no lever, but the passenger has a recliner knob. The rear sliding doors open to expose rear seats that tumble forward in a 60/40 fashion (60 on the driver's side and 40 on the passenger's side), but they are non-removable. Putting our toddler in his car seat was a breeze, with no issues of banging our heads or straining our backs. Also, each rear seating position (three in total) has the LATCH System to install a child's car seat. In terms of cabin safety, there are front airbags, and the front bucket seats are equipped with airbags. There are also side curtain airbags in the front and rear. I read something about knee protection as well.I'm not entirely sure if that refers to the airbag or just the design of the lower dash. Other safety features that seem to be standard on every vehicle should be mentioned, such as antilock brakes, skid control, and hill assist. On the topic of safety, I've read professional reviewers complain about the lack of a 3rd row seat, but personally, I'm relieved! I've witnessed several rear-end accidents on the highway, and in every case, it was an automobile that was smashed into the back, up to the rear window. It's a tragedy waiting to happen to place your children or loved ones in a far rear seat/3rd row in any minivan or small SUVs. That could result in your child being compacted in any type of rear-end collision/accident. As the driver, I have a crumple zone in front of me with airbags and a steering wheel to attempt to maneuver, but you have limited or no control whatsoever when hit from behind. With that in mind, why would you place a child in the rear crumple zone? Can you explain that to me? A quick internet search will support my opinion. I suggest purchasing a full-sized van, SUV, or a bus. The rear cargo doors are also 60/40 opening to 90 or 180 degrees, offering easy, low-height access to the rear cargo area, which is carpeted with four anchoring points and shallow built-in side shelving on both sides. The rear cargo area is roughly 49In our area, we have many unpaved, washboard, and loose gravel roads. The vehicle performs satisfactorily and stays where pointed. I have driven autocross in my Alfa, motorcycles, snowmobiles, and boats. While it may not be my Alfa Spider, it certainly isn't a barge either. The word 'fun' comes to mind, with manners. Interior noise seems to be a topic of concern, but it's a van! My wife and I both think that our Ram's interior is as quiet as our 2014 Chevy extended super quiet cab. The van has a nice sounding 6-speaker stereo, free satellite radio for a year, flawless Bluetooth hookup, and iTunes with no problem. There are two 12-volt plugs between the seats and one in the rear driver's side. Near the shifter, there is a USB and audio input for your phone. Personally, I like the look of the wagon. I have fielded many questions from similar-minded folks at almost every stop, such as gas stations, grocery stores, and even highway rest areas. I am willing to show and tell, but my wife is not so much. Our dealer in Warren, PA was superb. Hats off to Cory and Troy. It was the best experience I have ever had! Out the door with the exterior and interior protection treatments and a Michelin tire swap with nitrogen, the van came in rig.

I was searching for a versatile vehicle that could haul gear and furniture, while also serving as a recreational vehicle for activities such as biking, kayaking, and camping. I wanted something with decent gas mileage and front-wheel drive that was also fun to drive. After the local Ford dealer didn't have what I was looking for, I found the Promaster City Wagon. It's a shame that the versatile Eurovan hasn't caught on yet, but I'm glad I found this gem. I dislike the lack of space and versatility in minivans and crossovers due to their seating and finish. I recently purchased the Promaster City Wagon for clearing out an estate and for long trips, and it has been a smooth ride so far. There is plenty of headroom and space to bed down for the night or a long haul. The back seats can be removed or tumbled forward to make more room, making it ideal for one or two people on a long journey. There is also ample cargo space for moving gear, and a shelf rack above the windshield for additional storage. Although cruise control is not standard, it is a must-have feature. The cargo base is a tin can with two seats, but the City Wagon finishes the back with some plastic and fabric/sound dampening, providing decent fit and finish. However, be forewarned that here in VT and with insurers, it is deemed a truck/commercial vehicle, which costs around $100 more to insure for a year. I am hoping to get better gas mileage after the break-in period. Currently, it gets around 23 mpg on the highway. The four-speaker stereo is a little tinny, but it is nice to take calls and play tunes via Bluetooth, a new trick for this old dog, and I like the backup camera. The City Wagon was in short supply, so I had to take what was on the lot. Fortunately, it had an okay set of features, including a camera, stereo, Bluetooth, and cruise control. However, I was unable to procure the rear defrost and wiper package. When driving in the rain, I have to use the side mirrors, which fold in for parking. So far, I have received lots of compliments and head turns around town.Good sight lines, although somewhat exposed, like you are driving around in a fishbowl. The roof rack is an additional extra, but the seat is comfortable, even for a big guy like me. Some have mentioned that the driving position is strange, but I don't mind it with my 33

I have fielded many questions from similar-minded folks at almost every stop, including gas stations, grocery stores, and even highway rest areas.

My first review was on 11/1/16 shortly after purchasing this vehicle. At first, I was unsure of my feelings about it, but now I can honestly say that I do not like this van. One of my early complaints was the acceleration. While it's a peppy vehicle, the gas pedal is way too sensitive, and acceleration from a standstill is inconsistent. Although I've had the vehicle long enough to have gotten used to driving it, there are still times when it seems like it doesn't respond at all, which can be frustrating in busy traffic. Additionally, there is the brake issue that I mentioned in my first review. Unfortunately, the issue still exists, and RAM has no plans to do anything about it. However, I remain hopeful that they will address this issue in the future. Every morning when I leave for work, my brakes screech like crazy due to the cheap metal they used on the drums, and they rust overnight. Either that or the pads have a high metal content, and the metal in them rusts. The screeching does go away after driving the vehicle and making a number of stops to 'grind' the rust away. On a rainy day, I can get through the screeching period, drive for a while until I reach my destination, get back in the van a few hours later, and the brakes screech all over again. This is unacceptable! Since my last review, I have realized that this van handles bumps horribly. However, I do see positive reviews, so maybe it's just my vehicle. Unfortunately, I am currently experiencing some electrical/transmission issues and am waiting for the local RAM service tech to call me back to arrange to have the van towed for them to evaluate/repair the issue. Despite these issues, I remain hopeful that the service team will be able to resolve them.

The cooling fan for the motor has a problem and unfortunately, the dealership has 2500 parts on factory back order. My van has been at the dealership for over a week and I am still waiting for an update on when the parts will be available. While I have had some issues with my Dodge vehicle, I am confident that the dealership will resolve this issue in a timely and satisfactory manner. Thank you for your understanding.

My van has been at the dealership for over a week and I am still waiting for an update on when the parts will be available. While I have had some issues with this vehicle, I believe that with proper maintenance, it can be a reliable option. However, I do understand that others may have had different experiences. It's important to do your research and make an informed decision when purchasing a vehicle.

It sounds like you've had a tough time with your van. It can be frustrating to have to take it in for repairs so often. I hope things start looking up for you soon.In a normal vehicle, fixing the blinker relay would cost around twenty dollars for a fuse box replacement. However, in the Ram Promaster, the blinker goes through the computer, making it a five hundred dollar part that requires a mechanic to avoid setting off the airbag. Unfortunately, replacing the blinker relay on a Ram Promaster means having to replace every other switch on the steering column as well. Under both seats, there is an inexplicable hole that fills with water when driving through rain, causing mold to grow. Despite these challenges, the Ram Promaster is a unique vehicle that goes above and beyond. There is currently an intermittent leak from the dash onto the passenger front seat side floor, which may be related to the AC, even though it's winter and the AC hasn't been running. It's important to address these issues, but with patience and care, the Ram Promaster can still be a reliable and enjoyable vehicle. Let's stay tuned for more exciting adventures in Pro Disaster City, the anti-Herbie!

I have been given this vehicle to use as a service van. Unfortunately, it has been the most uncomfortable van I have had during my career. The driver's seat becomes very uncomfortable after about 45 minutes of driving, and the cab is cramped with little storage, none of which is behind the seats. I was disappointed to find that the van was not equipped with variable speed intermittent wipers, which would have been a useful feature. In the 33,000 miles that I have driven it so far, it has been in the shop twice for a bad front stabilizer/sway bar. During my second visit today, I was advised by the dealership that the part is on back order. I suppose they are on back order because of how many they are replacing? Thankfully, our fleet vehicles are rotated out after 80,000 miles. I hope and pray that my company doesn't make the same mistake of selecting this vehicle again.
