2006 Ford Super duty problems
The Ford Super Duty (also known as the Ford F-Series Super Duty) is a series of heavy-duty pickup trucks produced by the Ford Motor Company since the 1999 model year. Slotted above the consumer-oriented Ford F-150, the Super Duty trucks are an expansion of the Ford F-Series range, from F-250 to the F-600. The F-250 through F-450 are offered as pickup trucks, while the F-350 through F-600 are offered as chassis cabs.
Rather than adapting the lighter-duty F-150 truck for heavier use, Super Duty trucks have been designed as a dedicated variant of the Ford F-Series. The heavier-duty chassis components allow for heavier payloads and towing capabilities. With a GVWR over 8,500 lb (3,900 kg), Super Duty pickups are Class 2 and 3 trucks, while chassis-cab trucks are offered in Classes 3, 4, 5, and 6. The model line also offers Ford Power Stroke V8 diesel engines as an option.
Ford also offers a medium-duty version of the F-Series (F-650 and F-750), which is sometimes branded as the Super Duty, but is another chassis variant. The Super Duty pickup truck also served as the basis for the Ford Excursion full-sized SUV.
The Super Duty trucks and chassis-cabs are assembled at the Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville, Kentucky, and at Ohio Assembly in Avon Lake, Ohio. Prior to 2016, medium-duty trucks were assembled in Mexico under the Blue Diamond Truck joint venture with Navistar International.

Common 2006 Ford Super duty problems
The Ford F-350 Super Duty, released in 2006, has been known to have several common problems based on complaints from owners. One major issue is related to the 6.0L diesel engine, which has been the subject of class action lawsuits and individual lawsuits. The 6.0L diesel engine has been reported to have defects that result in engine failure, leading to costly repairs for unsuspecting buyers.
Another common problem with the 2006 Ford F-350 Super Duty is coolant seeping out of the engine due to leaking exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valves or a broken thermostat bypass. This issue can cause white smoke to come out of the tailpipe and may require replacing the thermostat and radiator, with repair costs ranging between $700 and $1,700.
The Super Duty diesel engines are also prone to liner pitting if the cooling system is neglected. This can be caused by air bubbles or ice on the engine's water pump during cavitation, leading to corrosion. Regularly adding antifreeze, such as Nalcool or Caterpillar ELC, to the current coolant can help prevent liner pitting. If left unaddressed, engine repairs or overhauls may cost upwards of $1,000.
Additionally, spark plugs in the 2006 Ford F-350 Super Duty can become loose or damaged, causing the cylinder head to be replaced. This issue can lead to increased oil consumption and additional engine maintenance costs. Checking to ensure that the plug is tight enough is an essential mechanical precaution to prevent this problem.
The diesel tank in the 2006 Ford F-350 Super Duty can also experience delamination, where minute metal and liner chips from the tank choke the diesel pump, causing the engine to shut down. Repairing this issue can cost between $200 and $400, while purchasing a new tank may cost between $1,200 and $2,400.
Lastly, the steering wheel of the 2006 Ford F-350 Super Duty can vibrate when braking due to bent rotors. This issue can be caused by harsh, abrupt braking, which exposes brake pad material to very hot rotors and pressure, resulting in rough areas on the rotor's surface. Gentle, smooth stops can help prevent this issue.
In summary, the 2006 Ford F-350 Super Duty has several common problems, including issues with the 6.0L diesel engine, coolant leaks, liner pitting, spark plug damage, diesel tank delamination, and steering wheel vibration when braking. Proper preventive maintenance and monitoring can help detect these issues early and avoid costly large repairs down the road.

POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2017-02-22
- VIN: 1F6NF53Y860
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
- Summary: VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND I WAS REPLACING AN OLD BATTERY. WHEN I STARTED THE VEHICLE THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY WAS SLAMMED SHUT DUE TO A FAULTY MOTOR THAT WHEN IT GETS LOW VOLTAGE ( CHANGING THE BATTERY) IT MALFUNCTIONS AND CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO GO IN LIMP MODE. FORD HAS A LONG HISTORY OF HAVING ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY ISSUES AND THIS HAS BEEN REPORTED TO THE NHTSA BEFORE BY MANY CONSUMERS. HAD THE VEHICLE HAD LOW VOLTAGE WHEN DRIVING THIS SAME ISSUE HAS BEEN REPORTED BY OTHER CONSUMERS FROM 2004 TO PRESENT. FORD SERVICE TECH ADVISED ME HE SEES THIS PROBLEM ALL THE TIME AND THEY JUST REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY WITH ANOTHER ONE AND SAY THE THROTTLE IS GUMMED SHUT. ALSO HAS A SERVICE ADVISORY ON THIS ISSUE.
STEERING,SUSPENSION PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2007-07-02
- VIN: 1FTNF21536E
- Components: STEERING,SUSPENSION
- Summary: STEERING VIBRATION & WHEEL HOP WHEN DRIVING ON ROUGH ROADS. NOTICED FIRST IN 2007 AND CONTINUES TODAY. TRUCK HAS ONLY 20,000 MILES, USED VERY LITTLE AND WELL CARED FOR. THIS IS A SERIOUS FAULT AND A COMPLAINT BY MANY OWNERS OF SIMILAR TRUCKS. *TR
STEERING,SUSPENSION PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2009-07-07
- VIN: 1FTWW33P76E
- Components: STEERING,SUSPENSION
- Summary: TRUCK HIT A BUMP ON BRIDGE AND BEGAN VIOLENTLY SHAKING. I HAD TO BRING THE TRUCK TO A COMPLETE STOP TO GET IT TO STOP SHAKING. I WENT SEVERAL TIMES TO FORD DEALERSHIPS TO FIND OUT IF ANY OTHER TRUCKS WHERE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS. BUT OF COURSE NO ONE ELSE WAS HAVING THIS SERVE PROBLEM. I FINALLY TALKED TO A TIRE SHOP WHO SAID HE HAD HEARD OF THE PROBLEMS WITH FORD TRUCKS SHIMMY. HE SAID FIRST CHECK YOUR AIR PRESSURE. FOUND THE PRESSURE LOW AND ADDED AIR. THIS HELPED WITH THE PROBLEM BUT HAD NOT SOLVED PROBLEM. THIS IS NOT JUST A MILD SHIMMY! THIS IS A DEATH WOBBLE.!!! I ALSO FOUND A PROBLEM WITH BRAKES. WITH ONE WHEEL DRAGGING AND THE OTHER NOT DRAGGING AS MUCH. THE PLASTIC PISTONS IN THE CALIPERS WHERE ALL FROZE UP. HAD TO REPLACE ALL CALIPERS AND ALL PADS. THIS WAS A EXPENSE JOBS WITH A TRUCK WITH ONLY 50,000 MILES. I REPLACED ALL TIRES WITH THE SAME TIRE THAT CAME ON TRUCK. WITH REPLACEMENT OF TIRES, BRAKES, AND RIGHT AIR PRESSURE IT CERTAINLY HAS HELPED WITH THE VIOLENT DEATH WOBBLE. BUT TRUCK STILL SHIMMIES EVERYTIME YOU BRING THE TRUCK TO A STOP. TRUCK STILL DOESN'T HAVE BUT 58,000 ON IT. I HAVE A 2001 GMC 2500HD ALSO AND HAVE NEVER HAD EXPERIENCE PROBLEMS THAT I HAVE WITH THIS FORD. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER FORD TRUCK. BECAUSE FORD IS TRYING TO PLAY THIS PROBLEM OFF WITH A SHIMMY. INSTEAD OF FIXING THEIR PROBLEMS. I HAVE HEARD THAT REPLACING THE BIG STEERING ARM WILL TAKE CARE OF PROBLEM. WILL TRY THIS NEXT . I CAN'T AFFORD GETTING RID OF TRUCK. *TR
POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2013-10-03
- VIN: 1FTSW21P86E
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
- Summary: I HAVE BEEN HAVING TROUBLE GETTING THE DIESEL ENGINE TO START FROM COLD. THE ENGINE WOULD CRANK FOR BETWEEN 6 AND 10 SECONDS BEFORE FINALLY FIRING. IN ADDITION, I HAVE EXPERIENCED ONE TURBO CHARGER OVER BOOST CONDITION WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO GO INTO LIMP HOME MODE ON THE HIGHWAY. I WAS CLIMBING A MOUNTAIN WITH THE BOAT AND SUDDENLY FOUND MY ENGINE RPM LIMITED TO 1500 AND A MAX SPEED OF APPROX. 29MPH. THE DIESEL TECH TOLD ME THAT MY TURBOCHARGER WASN'T EVEN PROVIDING BOOST DUE TO THE VARIABLE GEOMETRY VANES BEING COKED FROM BURNING ENGINE OIL THAT I COULDN'T SEE OR SMELL. THE COMPUTER WASN'T HAPPY WITH THIS AND AS A RESULT ALL BUT SHUT THE ENGINE DOWN. AS FOR THE STARTING ISSUE, I TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE GARAGE ON 10-4-2013 AND NEARLY FELL OVER WHEN THE PHONE CALL CAME BACK. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME I NEEDED $3200.00 IN REPAIRS TO FIX THE FUEL INJECTOR "O" RINGS WHICH ARE LEAKING OIL, THE DOWN PIPES INSIDE THE ENGINE, ASSOCIATED FITTINGS FOR THE HIGH PRESSURE OIL SYSTEM/PUMP, THE TURBO CHARGER VARIABLE GEOMETRY VANES, AND OTHER COMPONENTS INCLUDING THE FUEL INJECTION CONTROL MODULE AND EGR. I AM PAYING TO REBUILD HALF THE ENGINE THAT FORD DIDN'T BUILD RIGHT THE FIRST TIME. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THEY HAVE SEEN MANY OF THESE SAME PROBLEMS RESULTING IN ALMOST COMPLETE ENGINE REBUILDS UNDER 100,000 MILES. A GOOGLE SEARCH TURNS UP THOUSANDS OF RESULTS FOR THESE SAME PROBLEMS AND THOUSANDS MORE COMPLAINTS THAT FORD KNOWS AND HAS DONE NOTHING TO COMPENSATE CONSUMERS. I'M NOT THE LAWSUIT KIND, BUT I DO EXPECT A PRODUCT I PURCHASE TO LAST WHEN SERVICED IN ACCORDANCE WITH MANUFACTURERS GUIDELINES. ALL RELEVANT SERVICES HAVE BEEN PERFORMED TO DATE BY FORD DEALERS AND I STILL HAVE A DEFECTIVE ENGINE. IT IS MY HOPE THAT ENOUGH OF US CAN GET FORMAL COMPLAINTS ISSUED TO HELP PAY FOR THESE EXPENSES. *TR
STEERING,SUSPENSION,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2006-10-07
- Components: STEERING,SUSPENSION,ENGINE
- Summary: VIOLENT SHAKING AFTER HITTING BUMP AND BRAKING, TIRES WERE INFLATED AS RECOMMENDED, TAKEN TO DEALER AND FIXED A MANUFACTURING PROBLEM IN STEERING, DID NOT FIX SHAKING PROBLEM, HAPPENED ONCE IN HEAVY TRAFFIC, ENGINE SEIZED UP ON INTERSTATE HAD TO BE REPLACED AT 70,000 MILES, TRUCK WILL NOT RESTART AFTER WARMING UP, TOLD A CAM KIT MIGHT FIX FOR ANOTHER $3000. *TR
VISIBILITY,STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2010-04-20
- VIN: 1FTSX21P86E
- Components: VISIBILITY,STRUCTURE
- Summary: (A). I SENT AN EMAIL TO FORD HEADQUARTERS STATING "I CONTACTED THE DEALER/BODY SHOP AND MY EXTENDED WARRANTY PEOPLE. THE DEALER STATED THERE WAS A TSB 07-10-5 ON THIS ISSUE BUT NO RECALL AND MY COST TO REPLACE THE WINDOW BELT MOLDINGS/WINDOWS ON THE DRIVER/PASSENGER SIDE FRONT DOORS OF MY TRUCK WOULD BE $300-400. MY QUESTION SINCE THIS IS A FORD ISSUE ON THE DESIGN WHICH CAUSED BOTH MY WINDOWS TO HAVE VERTICAL SCRATCH MARKS ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE WINDOWS, ESPECIALLY THE PASSENGER SIDE WHICH IS SOMETIMES HARD TO SEE OUT OF, WOULD FORD FIX THIS ISSUE AS A VISIBILITY SAFETY ISSUE, FOR ME, THAT IS REPLACE THE WINDOWS/AND WINDOW BELT MOLDING AS SPECIFIED IN TCP 07-10-5 FREE OF CHARGE? (B). THE FORD MOTOR CO., CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP CENTER RESPONDED BACK AND STATED THEY TRIED TO CALL THE DEALER WITHOUT NO SUCCESS AND FOR ME TO CONTACT THEM REGARDING MY ISSUE. (C). I RESPONDED BACK AND STATED READ MY PREVIOUS EMAIL THAT I ALREADY HAD DONE THAT AND THEY (DEALER) STATED IT WOULD BE MY COST TO HAVE IT FIXED. I EXPLAINED ALL I WANTED TO KNOW IF FORD HDQTRS COULD DO ANYTHING FURTHER FOR ME SINCE THE DEALER WON'T UNLESS I PAY. I FIGURED IT WAS A FAULTY FORD DESIGN AND WHY SHOULD I HAVE TO PAY TO GET IT FIXED. (D). FORD HDQTS RESPONDED BACK AND STATED THE DEALER MADE THEIR DECISION AND THEY APOLOGIZED AND THERE IS NOTHING FURTHER THEY COULD DO. (E). I RESPONDED BACK AND STATED, SINCE IT IS HARD TO SEE OUT OF THE SCRATCHED WINDOWS THAT IF ANYTHING WERE TO HAPPEN DUE TO VISIBILITY ISSUES THAT I WOULD HOLD FORD RESPONSIBLE IN NOT FIXING THE ISSUE FROM A SAFETY STANDPOINT, DUE TO A IMPROPER WINDOW BELT MOLDING INSTALLED AT THE FACTORY WHICH CAUSES THE WINDOW TO GET VERTICAL SCRATCHES. I ALSO EXPLAINED AT TIMES WHEN THE SUNLIGHT HITS THE WINDOWS JUST RIGHT ALL THE SCRATCHES SEEM TO MAGNIFY WHICH MAKES IT HARD TO SEE OUT OF THE WINDOWS. I BELIEVE THEY CAUSED THE PROBLEM AND THEY SHOULD AT LEAST PAY TO HAVE THE MOLDING AND NEW WINDOWS REPLACED IN MY F250 TRUCK AS IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
STEERING,SUSPENSION PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2009-09-06
- VIN: 1FTSW21P66E
- Components: STEERING,SUSPENSION
- Summary: ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHILE DRIVING MY 2006 FORD F-250 PSD 4WD WOULD BEGIN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY WHILE DRIVING 60+MPH TO THE POINT WHERE I WOULD HAVE TO STOP THE TRUCK TO MAKE THE SHAKING IN THE STEERING TO STOP. *TR
SUSPENSION PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2009-06-10
- VIN: 1FTSW21506E
- Components: SUSPENSION
- Summary: FORD F 250 SUPER DUTY SHAKES VIOLENTLY AND IS UNCONTROLLABLY WHEN HITTING SMALL BUMPS AT SPEEDS IN EXCESS OF 60 MPH. TRUCK MUST THEN BE SLOWED DOWN (USUALLY ON THE HIGHWAY) TO REGAIN CONTROL. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION. *TR
