1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass supreme problems
The Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme is a mid-size car produced by Oldsmobile between 1966 and 1997. It was positioned as a premium offering at the top of the Cutlass range. It began as a trim package, developed its own roofline, and rose during the mid-1970s to become not only the most popular Oldsmobile but the highest selling model in its class.
It was produced as a rear-wheel drive two-door hardtop, sedan, and station wagon into the 1980s, and a convertible through 1972. In 1988 Oldsmobile sought to capitalize on the brand equity of the Cutlass Supreme marque by replacing it with a downsized front-wheel drive model based on the GM10 platform W-platform.
When production ended there was no direct replacement for the Cutlass Supreme, although the Intrigue introduced for 1998 was designed in size and price to replace all the Cutlass models.

Common 1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass supreme problems
Common problems reported by owners of the 1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme include issues with the engine, electrical system, transmission, and suspension. Here is a detailed breakdown of each problem:
- Engine Issues: Owners have complained about the engine's performance, with reports of rough idling, stalling, and oil-related problems. The engine, particularly the 3.4L V6, may exhibit signs of wear and tear, leading to issues like oil leaks, overheating, and potential internal damage. Routine maintenance, including regular oil changes and monitoring for leaks, is crucial to prevent major engine problems.
- Electrical System: Electrical issues have been a concern for some owners, manifesting as intermittent problems with lights, gauges, and other electrical components. These issues can be challenging to diagnose and may stem from faulty wiring, sensors, or connections. Addressing electrical problems promptly is essential to avoid safety hazards and prevent further damage to the vehicle's systems.

Owners have noted issues with the suspension, which can affect ride comfort, handling, and overall vehicle stability. SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2003-12-02
- VIN: 1G3AJ85M9R6
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC
- Summary: THE ANTILOCK BRAKES ON MY 1994 OLDSMOBILE CUTLASS CRUISER MAKE THE CAR IMPOSSIBLE TO STOP ON AN ICY ROAD. AT VERY LOW SPEEDS, 15 MPH OR LESS ONCE THE ANTILOCK BREAKS KICK IN THE CAR TAKES OFF AND SLIDES RIGHT THROUGH THE INTERSECTION THIS BEHAVIOR IS UNPREDICTABLE, SCARY AND QUITE DANGEROUS. THE TIRES AND BRAKES ARE NEW AND IN GOOD CONDITION. DISABLING THE ANTILOCK BREAKS MAKES THE CAR VERY EASY TO STOP UNDER THE SAME CONDITIONS EVEN IF A WHEEL SKIDS A LITTLE BIT. THIS ISN'T AN EQUIPMENT FAILURE AS MUCH AS IT IS A DEFECT IN DESIGN CONCEPT. THE ANTILOCK BRAKES MAY BE FINE FOR A 65 MPH STOP ON A RAINY CALIFORNIA EXPRESSWAY, BUT THEY ARE TERRIBLE ON AN ICY OR SNOWY NEW YORK ROAD AT SPEEDS OF LESS THAN 15 MPH, IN A SLOW SPEED STOP ONCE ONE WHEEL SLIPS. THE WHEELS GO INTO ANTILOCK AND SINCE ALL THE WHEELS ARE ON A SLIPPERY SURFACE THE ANTILOCK ACTION CONTINUES EFFECTIVELY SHUTTING THE BREAKS OFF MAKING THE CAR IMPOSSIBLE TO STOP. THE ANTILOCK ACTION IS VERY VIOLENT AND ACTUALLY CAUSES THE WHEELS TO SKID RESULTING IN MORE ANTILOCK ACTION. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO FEATHER THE BRAKES TO BRING THE CAR TO A PREDICTABLE STOP ON AN ICY ROAD. I HAVE DRIVEN SEVERAL GM VEHICLES AND THEY ALL HAVE THIS PROBLEM. I WILL AVOID PURCHASING ANTILOCK BREAKS WHEREVER POSSIBLE. OBVIOUSLY THE DESIGNERS NEVER WENT THROUGH A NEW YORK WINTER WITH THESE BRAKES. *NLM

Hi there! I just wanted to share with you that I recently bought my dream car - a 1994 convertible in Teal from E-Bay for $4850 US. It's in near new condition with only 64,000 miles and has spent its entire life in the south. Since I live in Canada, it turns a lot of heads as most people have never seen one before. I've already put over 3,000 miles on it and haven't had a single problem - not even a drop of oil burned! It performs great and looks amazing. If you're looking for a car with both performance and style, I highly recommend getting one from the southern US.

I recently purchased a 94 Olds Cutlass 3.1 from a private owner for $1700, which was a great deal compared to the $2500 he was asking for. Unfortunately, I've had some issues with the CHECK SOON ENGINE LIGHT since the first month of owning it. Although it still drives okay, it's been difficult to find parts for it, especially in the back where the rear speakers are located. It looks like it was damaged by rats and I'm hoping to find a way to get it redone. I've had to replace two water pumps, dealt with A/C issues twice, replaced two fuel pumps, and even had to put in another engine and transmission. The AM/FM CASSETTE system doesn't work anymore, and it's hard to find cassette tapes these days. I also need my car to be reprogrammed to lock/unlock the doors and I'm looking for a part to keep my trunk open, but unfortunately, it's no longer being made. On the bright side, it's a beautiful blue color. Just be careful of engine surging, as I had to take it to the shop last year when it was cutting off while making a turn or at a stop light/sign. Although it took over 10 months to find the issue, I still love the car overall.
-
I've owned this car for 3.5 years and I love it! Though it's old, I've not had any serious problems with it. I love the pickup speed - it's just perfect. It'll definitely live long past all of my friends' cars of similar ages. I wish Olds had never quit!
-
I'm so glad to hear that you love your car! It's amazing that it's still running great even after 150k miles. Not to mention, it's fast, great looking, and has fantastic fuel economy. You've got a real gem there!

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with my car. I bought it back in 1998 with 52000 miles on it, and it has been such a reliable car! I've only needed to do normal maintenance on it. One day, on my way home from work, I was broadsided by a Toyota Tercel. The Tercel was totaled back to the windshield, but amazingly, I was able to drive my car off the curb and back home. It had $6000.00 worth of damage, but I loved the car so much that I had it repaired (and thankfully, the insurance company covered everything). Since the repair work, you could never tell it was in an accident. It drives and handles perfectly! I'm actually looking at a 1995 Cutlass Supreme now with only 40,000 miles on it. The dealer is asking $6000, and I'm planning on buying it this week. Thanks for listening!

Great car so far! It's been in the family for about two years or 25,000 miles. I have a 3.1L and I do seem to have a mysterious oil leak somewhere. It seems to lose a quart or so every 1500-2000 miles. Besides that, I have no major complaints. It's a nice ride and has decent acceleration for a sedan.
