2013 Acura Ilx problems
The Acura ILX is a compact car (C-segment) manufactured and marketed by Honda under the Acura brand, based on the ninth-generation Civic sedan. The ILX replaced the Canadian market exclusive Acura CSX. The gasoline-electric hybrid version was Acura's first.
Overview
The concept version was unveiled at the 2012 North American International Auto Show, the production version was presented in the 2012 Chicago Auto Show. The ILX introduces a new design that Acura calls "aero-fused dynamics". Mass production commenced on April 23 at Honda's assembly facility in Greensburg, Indiana and U.S. sales began on May 22.
The ILX's body in white uses 59% high strength steel ranging from 440-980 MPa yield strength grades, aluminum is used for the hood and front bumper beam. Compared to the Civic, the ILX uses Acura's "Amplitude Reactive" dampers and a larger more rigid steering shaft for improved handling and ride quality characteristics.
Options are grouped into Premium and Technology packages and include leather upholstery, 17" alloy wheels, navigation system, premium audio system with SiriusXM satellite radio, and high intensity discharge headlamps. Both option packages include a multi-view rear backup camera with regular, wide-angle, and top-down modes.
For the 2014 model year the ILX came standard with 17-inch wheels, leather interior, heated front seats, an eight-way power driver's seat, tri-angle backup camera and audio subwoofer with Active Noise Cancellation.
For the 2015 model year, the ILX Hybrid was discontinued due to slow sales. Through May of 2014, only 2,660 Hybrid units were sold since its introduction.

Common 2013 Acura Ilx problems
The 2013 Acura ILX has faced several common problems, primarily related to its suspension, electrical system, and transmission.
- Suspension Problems
The 2013 Acura ILX has been reported to struggle with suspension problems, which have been a significant concern for many owners. The most common suspension issues include axle concerns, particularly on the passenger's side, suspension noise, and a rough ride. Multiple complaints point towards issues with the vehicle's axle, particularly on the passenger's side, which could be a potential design or manufacturing flaw specific to this model year. Reports of abnormal noises from the front suspension suggest potential wear or malfunction of suspension components, while a noticeably bumpy ride, especially over minor bumps, could be indicative of suspension tuning or component issues.
- Electrical System Flaws
The 2013 Acura ILX has received the most number of complaints for its airbag system, with deployment issues being a major concern. There have been multiple complaints where the airbags in the 2013 Acura ILX did not deploy during accidents, even in situations where they were expected to, leading to injuries. Consistent malfunctions, such as the deflator malfunctioning repeatedly, have also been reported, preventing vehicles from passing inspections. Recall concerns, including delays in receiving parts, lack of communication, and extended repair wait times, have also been common complaints.
- Transmission Problems
The 2013 Acura ILX transmission problems include noisy transmission and hard shifts. The transmission is one of the most important parts of the vehicle, and issues can arise at some point. Gears may become stuck, transmission fluid leaks need to be patched quickly, jerking may occur, delayed shifts can cause acceleration problems, hard shifts are not good, the transmission could slip, and shudders may be experienced. The transmission fluid needs to be replaced every 30,000 to 60,000 miles. Along with fluid changes, terrible sounds will come from the transmission, with old transmission fluid being awful to the ear. A worn-out torque converter can also cause issues.
These problems have been prevalent since the beginning of the 2013 Acura ILX's lifetime, despite the model receiving relatively decent reviews from experts when it was first released. Consumer Reports gave the model a 4.0/5.0 rating on the majority of performance metrics, but buyers have reported that the model is noisy, cheap, and suffers from a slew of mechanical issues, including suspension problems, electrical issues, and transmission failures.

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-28
- VIN: 19VDE1F56DE
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: Power train issue the vehicle loses power while driving on the roads and highway. (i have a 1-year-old daughter) It has not been confirmed by a dealer/professional when i bought it in they can't diagnose without warning lights. the warning light were not on when I first brought it in a couple year ago, but the car still loses power frequently and now all the brakes system lights are on.
STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-05-17
- VIN: 19VDE3F38DE
- Components: STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: Over the past few weeks the vehicle warning lamp states "Check Power Steering System." A customer service representative from Acura Dealer witnessed the problem. Then somehow it corrects itself for a while and steering is back to normal. My most recent diagnostic by an independent service center did not indicate a problem. However, 2 days later the problem reoccurred which caused the wheel to shake and stiffen while driving. The most difficulty experience is turning the wheel to park.
STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-05-12
- VIN: 19VDE3F72DE
- Components: STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
- Summary: Issue had not been persistent, on Sunday, May the 12th, 2024, while driving home, I was on a slight downward slope coming to a halt at a red light, when the car jolted slightly and the warning lights came. The auto-shutoff feature on the vehicle stopped working immediately. I was able to drive the car home, but after parking - the vehicle wouldn’t start again. Electronic screen on the radio came on and I could see error codes P1437 & P15A5. Also warnings on the dash to check IMA system, check charging system, check battery, check breaking system. Power steering locked up due to the voltage shortage. What is the reason/explanation provided by the dealer, as to what caused this issue? DTC'S P0A78 - MPI INTERNAL CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION, P1440 - MPI OUT CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION. MPI FAILING INTERNALLY, CAUSING 12V BATTERY TO LOSE CHARGE. Previously parts involved were recalled in Dec 2020, since American Honda didn’t not include my VIN they have refused to be of any assistance - monopolizing on being the only available source to change the parts. Had I received the recall, I would have had it addressed prior to the part going out. I’m 6330 miles over what they would have covered because I had no idea this was an issue until I found the safety bulletin which exactly described the recall and what happened to be my experience. Same issues, but I’m being told I couldn’t be included. They are charging me over $1400 for the part alone and then service which includes a complete removal of my back seats. I JUST spent nearly $4000 in Feb 2023 on the AC because the car wouldn’t start, who is to say this wasn’t undetected issue at the time?!

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-10-24
- VIN: 19VDE1F50DE
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: Hi - My driver's side door keeps unlocking and registering as if I am opening it as I am driving. I've attempted to have this fixed (stopped unlocking for about a year) but it has started back up within the last month. It's now come to my attention that upon searching for safety recalls on my car, that there was a recall back in 2012 (12V338000) on my car for what sounds exactly like the issue I've been having. I have an appointment to get Driveshaft Corrosion (20V-770) recall fixed on 11/6, but they do not have the other safety recall associated with my VIN number. Therefore, they are refusing to look at it without payment. I would hate to have to pay for a temporary fix again and I am extremely concerned that I cannot drive my vehicle without it unlocking and am really hoping this reaches the right audience. I am looking for assistance in having this resolved. Thank you!
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-07-20
- VIN: 19VDE3F78DE
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE
- Summary: On July 20th, 2023, while driving home from work, my vehicle without warning made a sudden jerk and all the warning light s came on the dash board. The car had reduced power and acceleration and an automated voice from the dash board warned to pull over the car. I pulled over into a garage who performed a diagnostic. They stated the error codes indicated MPI failure (IMA power moter invertor). They also stated there was a Service Bulletin 20-021 for tis issue with this car (same year /model). When a VIN check was performed, the vehicle did not come up on this TSB. I had the car towed to an acura dealer and they ran a diagnostic. They confirmed error codes P1440,P15A5,P0AE1,P0DA8 - all codes listed in the service builletin 20-021 for this vehicle year, make and model. I have no doubt, as the data indicates, this failure/incident was caused by the same issues which are covered under TSB 20-021 and this VIN should be included.

POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2020-11-30
- VIN: 19VDE3F79DE
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: MY CAR WAS IN MOTION I WAS DRIVING ON A MAIN STREET AND THEN MY CAR SUDDENLY BROKE DOWN. I HAD NO PRIOR LIGHTS ON. THE VEHICLE BEGAN SHAKING, MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BEGAN FLASHING AND THE REST OF THE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD BEGAN FLASHING WITH THE CODE P0202, AND COULD NOT ACCELERATE PAST 3 MPH. I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET AND IT TOOK ME OVER 20 MINUTES TO PULL INTO A GAS STATION THAT WOULD NORMALLY TAKE 5 MINUTES, I DON'T KNOW HOW I EVEN MADE IT TO THE STATION WITHOUT PUSHING THE CAR MYSELF. I HAD TO TOW IT DIRECTLY TO THE ACURA DEALERSHIP. I HAVE OWNED THE CAR LESS THAN 2 YEARS AND HAVE HAD NO PRIOR ISSUES. ACURA NOTIFIED ME IT WAS MY FUEL INJECTOR AND COILS AFTER RUNNING THE DIAGNOSTIC. I HAD TO PAY $1,200 OUT OF POCKET BECAUSE MY WARRANTY EXPIRED. I WAS NOTIFIED THAT THIS WAS A COMPLETE PARTS ISSUE, A RARE OCCURRENCE, THERE WAS NOTHING I COULD HAVE DONE, THIS WAS A MANUFACTURING ISSUE. THEN I RECEIVED A CALL FROM ACURA AFTER THE PARTS WERE REPLACED THAT THEY FRIED OUT THE PCM-THE COMPUTER OF THE CAR. THEY STATED MY CAR WAS NOT DRIVEABLE UNTIL THE PCM WAS REPLACED AND THAT IT DID NOT SHOW IN THE DIAGNOSTIC UNTIL THEY REPLACED THE PARTS. SO NOW, A PARTS FAILURE LED TO AN ELECTRICAL FAILURE. THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING LISTED IN THE SERVICE BULLETIN BECAUSE THIS WAS NOT A COMMON ISSUE. I HAD TO PAY AN ADDITIONAL $1,100 NOW TOTALING TO A $2,200 UNPRECEDENTED OUT-OF-POCKET EXPENSE FOR A MANUFACTURER FAILURE. THIS IS TERRIFYING BECAUSE MY CAR WAS WORKING COMPLETELY FINE, DRIVING SMOOTHLY, AND OUT OF NOWHERE WITHOUT ANY INDICATION GAVE OUT ON ME, PLACING MY LIFE IN DANGER. SUSPICIOUSLY ENOUGH, DURING THIS TIMEFRAME, I GET A NOTIFICATION OF A RECALL ON MY VEHICLE FOR A STOP SALE RELATED TO DRIVESHAFT CORROSION WHICH COULD CAUSE MY CAR TO STOP. WHAT IF THIS IS THE ISSUE THAT CAUSED THE OTHER PROBLEMS?

2013 Acura Ilx recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 6 recalls for different components of the 2013 Acura Ilx.
- Manufacturer: Honda (American Honda Motor Co.)
- Components: POWER TRAIN:DRIVELINE:DRIVESHAFT
- Summary: Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2013-2015 Acura ILX, 2013 Acura ILX Hybrid, 2012 Honda Civic Hybrid, and 2007-2008 Honda Fit vehicles with a manual transmission and 2009-2013 Honda Fit vehicles originally sold, or ever registered, in Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. The drive shafts' protective coating may not have been applied properly during manufacturing, making it more susceptible to damage from road salt, or other contaminants, and potentially cause it to break.
- Consequence: A broken drive shaft may cause a sudden loss of drive power. The vehicle could also roll away if the parking brake has not been applied before the vehicle has been exited. Either condition can increase the risk of a crash or injury.
- Remedy: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the drive shafts, replacing either the left or right drive shaft, if necessary, free of charge. Owners were notified of the safety risk with an interim letter mailed February 2, 2021. A second letter will be sent once the remedy is available. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are P9M, PAV, BAY, TAX, CA0, and MAZ.
- Manufacturer: Honda (American Honda Motor Co.)
- Components: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:DRIVER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE
- Summary: Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2013 Acura ILX, 2015 RDX, 2005-2010 and 2012 RL, 2009-2014 TL, 2010 and 2012 ZDX, 2007-2011 CR-V, 2011-2013 and 2015 CR-Z, 2009-2013 Fit, 2013 Fit EV, 2010-2011 and 2013 Insight and 2007-2014 Ridgeline vehicles. These vehicles are equipped with driver frontal air bag inflators assembled as a recall remedy part or replacement service part, that may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, temperature and temperature cycling.
- Consequence: An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver frontal air bag inflator, free of charge. The recall began August 12, 2019. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are S5B and W59.

The affected vehicles received a replacement driver air bag inflator as part of a previous Takata inflator recall remedy or a replacement driver air bag module containing the same inflator type as a service part. Due to a manufacturing error, in the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver frontal air bag, these inflators may explode.
- Consequence: An explosion of an inflator within the driver frontal air bag module may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver, front seat passenger or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver's air bag inflator with an alternate inflator, free of charge. The recall began April 10, 2019. Honda owners may contact customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is O41. Acura owners may contact customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Acura's number for this recall is U40.

The affected vehicles are equipped with a dual-stage driver frontal air bag that may be susceptible to moisture intrusion which, over time, could cause the inflator to rupture.
- Consequence: In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, the inflator could rupture with metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the inflator, free of charge. The recall began March 2017. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are JY0, JY1, and JY2.

Excessive heat temperatures around the headlight bulb and reflector unit may diminish the output of the headlight and cause smoke, melting, and fire. Thus, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
- Consequence: The diminished light output may decrease the driver's visibility, increasing the risk of a crash. Additonally, the excessive heat coming from around the bulb and reflector could cause the headlights to overheat, increasing the risk of a fire.
- Remedy: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the headlights, free of charge. The recall began in July 2014. Owners may contact Acura customer service at 1-800-862-2872. Honda's number for this recall is JE9.
- Manufacturer: HONDA (AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CO.)
- Components: LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES:DOORS:LATCH
- Summary: Honda is recalling certain model year 2012 Honda CR-V and model year 2013 Acura ILX vehicles. If the manual or power door lock is activated while an interior front door handle is being operated by an occupant, the cable connecting the interior door handle to the door latch mechanism may become loose and move out of position. There is a possibility that the cable can move far enough out of position to prevent the door from properly latching.
- Consequence: If the door is not fully latched, the door may open while driving or in a crash, increasing the risk of personal injury to the vehicle occupants.
- Remedy: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front door latch assemblies in the affected vehicles, free of charge. Additionally, the interior front door handles in certain Honda CR-Vs will also be replaced, free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin on, or about, August 16, 2012. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-800-999-1009.

It's not easy to sum up this car, as there are no other vehicles in this size that offer as many features at this price. However, this could be seen as both a positive and a negative. While there are larger vehicles that offer the same features at this price point (without sacrificing gas mileage), there are also smaller vehicles that are less expensive and have fewer features. So, if you had the option to lease a Civic EX-L or a premium package ILX (with the same monthly payment after factoring in gas and insurance), which would you choose? Or, if you could buy a loaded Accord or Mazda6 for the same price, which would you prefer? Ultimately, all of these are amazing vehicles, and the decision comes down to personal preference. Do factors like the badge or dealer experience matter to you? It's important to consider all of these factors before making a decision.

This car is really comfortable and surprisingly spacious for its size. The navigation system is user-friendly with a clear and large screen. The upgraded sound system is impressive and exceeds expectations for this class of car. While there are a few minor drawbacks, it's important to keep in mind the reasonable price point. The 150hp engine is sufficient for most situations, but it may feel underpowered at times. If possible, consider upgrading to the optional 200hp engine, which is now standard in newer models. I had the opportunity to drive a 2018 model with the 200hp engine and it made a huge difference. Unfortunately, there are no memory seat buttons, which may be a downside for some. However, it's worth noting that I'm someone who is particularly sensitive to seat positions. Additionally, it would be great if this model was available in AWD, but the snow traction is still quite good even without it.

I've owned a variety of cars, from Jeeps to Volvos, but I always seem to come back to Honda products. My favorite car was a 1996 Acura Integra, which I loved. I also owned a 2007 Volvo S40, which was nice to look at, but drove very choppy. However, the 2013 Acura ILX is really smooth and fun to drive. I've read reviews that say the ILX is just a Honda Civic in a tuxedo, but what's wrong with that? My 2006 Honda Civic EX Coupe drove ten times better than my Volvo S40, and the new ILX I just purchased drives even smoother and is ten times more luxurious than my old Honda. I think I've found the perfect blend of performance, luxury, and style. It might just be my new favorite car!

I've owned my new ILX for 3 months now and I couldn't be happier! The small 4cyl. engine is surprisingly peppy and the ride and handling are truly impressive. The interior makes excellent use of space and I don't even miss the little extra room I had in my previous mid-size car. I highly recommend giving this car a try!

I recently purchased the Acura ILX after owning a Jeep Grand Cherokee for seven years. Although I really wanted a new JGC Overland, I decided it made more economic sense to look for a comfortable 60 miles/day commuter that would still give me the feeling I was driving a solid entry-level luxury car with most of today's tech features. The ILX has a very well-engineered interior that seems well above the luxury level of a Civic or other lower-end cars and in line with most other cars up to about 40K. It is a very pleasant place to relax while commuting a couple of hours a day. With a low 30's budget, I compared it against the Audi A3, VW GTI, Lexus 250H, and Subaru Outback and ultimately decided that the Acura ILX was the best choice for me.

I recently helped my Grandma purchase a CPO 2013 ILX w/ Tech package. She had specific requirements such as a backup camera, leather seats, and navigation, and the Acura ILX was the only car that met her needs within her budget. I have driven this car quite a bit and have a good sense of its capabilities. Although it is marketed as an Acura, it does not feel like one. My dad owns a 2009 TSX, and the materials, comfort, suspension, and performance of the ILX do not compare to those of any Acura. When the ILX first came out, many forum discussions revealed that it is essentially a Civic in disguise that requires premium fuel, and I can confirm this. While most built-in navigations are subpar, I was disappointed with the ILX's system. Additionally, the backup camera is not up to par, especially for a 2013
