2006 Jaguar Xj problems

The Jaguar XJ is a series of mid-size/full-size luxury cars produced by British automobile manufacturer Jaguar Cars (becoming Jaguar Land Rover in 2013) from 1968 to 2019. It was produced across five basic platform generations (debuting in 1968, 1986, 1994, 2003, and 2009) with various updated derivatives of each. From 1970, it was Jaguar's flagship four-door model. The original model was the last Jaguar saloon to have been designed under the leadership of Sir William Lyons, the company's founder, and the model has been featured in countless media and high-profile appearances.

Series 1, 2, and 3 (1968–1992)

Overview

The first generation Jaguar XJ was produced for a total period of 24 years, with two major facelifts – in 1973 and in 1979, with a raised front bumper and less tall grilles.

For four years, the 1968 introduced XJ was always a four-door, straight-six saloon on a 2.76 m (108.75 in) wheelbase. In 1972, a more spacious, 4-inch (10 cm) longer wheelbase (LWB) option, and a 5.3 litre V12 engine were added. On the XJ series II (from 1973), the standard wheelbase (SWB) saloons were cancelled in 1974 – but a SWB two-door (series II only) coupé was sold from 1975–1978.

The 1979 series III saloons received a redesigned greenhouse (upper body) and bumpers. The 6-cylinder series III models were replaced by the second generation Jaguar XJ in 1987, but the V12 models not until 1992.

Common 2006 Jaguar Xj problems

The Jaguar XJ, specifically the 2006 model, is known to have several common problems based on complaints from its owners. One of the most frequently reported issues is with the air suspension, which has been known to give problems.

Another common problem is with the coolant reservoir, which is prone to rapid wear and can develop cracks, leading to coolant leaks and overheating issues.

The engine can also experience issues, such as misfiring and hard starting, which can be caused by faulty ignition coils.

Electrical issues are also common, with problems reported with airbags, parking sensors, and brake pipes.

It's worth noting that while these issues are common, they are not necessarily indicative of a poorly made or unreliable car. With regular maintenance and care, many of these issues can be avoided or addressed in a timely manner. However, it's important for potential buyers to be aware of these common problems and to thoroughly inspect any used Jaguar XJ before purchasing.

Is Jaguar XJ a reliable car?

Likewise any work on the engines, and always check for a full service history. As far as reliability goes, there's some good news. The XJ finished top in the luxury car class in our most recent reliability survey, with an excellent overall score of 94.3%.

What is the best Jaguar XJ engine?

By far the most popular engine choice is the twin-turbocharged, 3.0-litre V6 diesel – found in various Jaguar Land Rover products – and this 300hp engine is superbly refined and near silent at cruising speeds.

How many miles can a Jaguar XJ last?

The estimated lifespan of a Jaguar Xj is 318,000mi, before reaching the life expectancy upper limit. Fuel type is a major factor when looking into a vehicles lifespan/life expectancy. Don't just buy it, VehicleScore it.

Why did Jaguar stop making XJ?

The XJ was pulled because there's no way that Jaguar could produce enough models to justify the cost. See the discontinuation of the electric XJ as a way of Jaguar ensuring it has the financial health to quickly adapt its lineup to an all-electric future.

POWER TRAIN,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2017-06-28
  • VIN: SAJWA82B66S
  • Components: POWER TRAIN,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: WHILE STOPPED IN THE ROAD WAITING FOR ANOTHER CAR. WITH FOOT ON BRAKE, THE CAR SUDDENLY GOES FULL THROTTLE. DRIVER HAS BOTH FEET APPLIED ON THE BRAKE AND THE CAR STILL MOVES FORWARD BURNING RUBBER, AND THEN AFTER A FEW SECONDS IT GOES BACK TO IDLE. THE CAR DOES THIS ONCE OR TWICE A YEAR, THE LAST TIME DOING DAMAGE TO A CAR IN FRONT OF IT. THIS IS THE FIFTH TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. THE CAR IS IDLING NORMALLY WITH THE RIGHT FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND IT WILL JUST GO FULL THROTTLE ALL BY ITSELF. IT HAS HAPPENED ENOUGH THAT WE KNOW WE DO NOT HAVE BOTH THE BRAKE AND THE GAS PEDAL DEPRESSED. FROM DOING ONLINE RESEARCH I BELIEVE JAGUAR AND TOYOTA / LEXUS USED THE SAME SYSTEM FOR CONTROLLING ACCELERATION. I REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY AFTER THE FENDER BENDER, IT EVIDENTLY DID NOT HELP.

I HAVE CALLED JAGUAR AND THEY BLAME THE DRIVER. I REPLACED THE THROTTLE WHICH CONTAINED THE SAME TPS SENSOR THAT HAS PLAGUED TOYOTAS. I AM GOING TO REPLACE THE PEDAL SENSOR AND IF THAT DOESN'T WORK I GUESS I WILL SELL THE CAR. EACH TIME THIS HAPPENS THE CAR IS STOPPED WITH THE RIGHT FOOT ON THE BRAKE. THE ACCIDENT WAS AT A SCHOOL WAITING IN A LINE OF STOPPED VEHICLES WAITING TO PICKUP STUDENTS.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2015-04-21
  • VIN: SAJWA51A36W
  • Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
  • Summary: THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THAT IT HAPPENED. IT HAPPENED ONCE BEFORE, BUT I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE DATE WAS OR THE MILEAGE. HOWEVER, I DO REMEMBER THAT IT HAPPENED IN NOVEMBER, 2013. ON APRIL 21, 2015, I WAS LEAVING A STORE. AS I PULLED OUT OF THE PARKING LOT, I HAD TO STOP TO MAKE SURE THERE WAS NOT ANY TRAFFIC IN THE HIGHWAY BEFORE LEAVING, BUT THERE WAS A TRUCK APPROACHING. I TAPPED THE BRAKES AND THE CAR TOOK OFF IN THE HIGHWAY RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE TRUCK. LUCKILY THE DRIVER OF THE TRUCK SAW ME AND APPLIED HIS BRAKES. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A TRAGEDY. NOW FOR THE FIRST OCCASION, I WAS IN THE INSIDE LANE OF A MAJOR HIGHWAY AND WAS TRYING TO STOP FOR A RED LIGHT. I STARTED TO BRAKE AND THE CAR TOOK OFF. I HAD TO SWITCH OVER IN THE OUTSIDE LANE SO THAT I WOULDN'T REAR END THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. I WAS LUCKY THIS TIME BECAUSE THERE WASN'T ANY TRAFFIC IN THE OUTSIDE LANE. NOW I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR BECAUSE I KNOW IT IS A DEATH TRAP. I DO NOT WANT TO HURT MYSELF OR ANYONE ELSE ON THE HIGHWAY. I NEED SOME HELP NOW! I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO! I JUST PURCHASED THE CAR IN APRIL, 2013. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT OR KILLED. IT IS A BEAUTIFUL CAR, BUT AS I SAID BEFORE, "IT IS A DEATH TRAP"! *TR

WHILE IN NEUTRAL, THE ENGINE KEPT REVVING AND THE TACHOMETER WAS IN THE RED. I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF TO KEEP FROM DAMAGING IT AND PUT THE CAR IN PARK. AFTER THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME HAD GONE, I STARTED MY CAR TO SEE IF THE ENGINE WOULD RUN PROPERLY. IT SEEMED TO BE OKAY, SO I CAREFULLY DROVE TO MY HOME WHICH WAS ABOUT THREE MORE MILES. SEVERAL WEEKS PRIOR, I HAD A SIMILAR INCIDENT WHEN I WAS PARKING AT THE GROCERY STORE, BUT I WAS IN THE PROCESS OF TURNING OFF THE ENGINE. WHEN I STARTED THE CAR TO LEAVE THE GROCERY STORE, EVERYTHING SEEMED TO BE OKAY AND I DIDN'T THINK ANY MORE OF IT. I FOUND SEVERAL OTHER PEOPLE ON LINE THAT HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM BUT NONE OF THEM COULD PROVE IT TO THEIR DEALER AND NOTHING WAS DONE ABOUT IT. I GUESS IT WILL TAKE SOMEONE GETTING KILLED BEFORE ANYTHING GETS DONE ABOUT THIS SUDDEN ACCELERATION PROBLEM WITH THE 2006 JAGUAR X-TYPE. THIS INCIDENT HAS UPSET ME AND I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS CAR, BUT I DON'T HAVE ANOTHER VEHICLE TO DRIVE. *TR
