2014 Ford Escape problems
The Ford Escape is a compact crossover SUV manufactured and marketed by Ford Motor Company since the 2001 model year. The first Ford SUV derived from a car platform, the Escape fell below the Ford Explorer in size; the Escape is currently sized between the Ford EcoSport and Ford Edge. The 2004 Ford Escape Hybrid was the first hybrid-electric vehicle from Ford, and the first hybrid produced as an SUV.
The first two generations of the Escape used the Ford CD2 platform (jointly developed with Mazda), leading to the release of the Mazda Tribute and Mercury Mariner; as with the Escape, both the Tribute and Mariner were marketed in North America. In Europe, the Escape was initially branded as the Ford Maverick from 2001 to 2008 (replacing a Nissan-produced SUV).
Under the mid-2000s "One Ford" globalization strategy, the third and fourth-generation designs of the Escape have been unified with the Ford Kuga, designed by Ford of Europe. Sharing a common body and chassis underpinnings (and several engines), the Escape and Kuga are manufactured in their home markets. As with previous generations, the fourth-generation Escape is offered with gasoline, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid options. Outside of North America, the Ford Escape is marketed in Australia, China, and Taiwan.

Common 2014 Ford Escape problems
The 2014 Ford Escape is a compact crossover SUV that comes in three trim levels: S, SE, and Titanium. While the 2014 Ford Escape has many positive attributes, including good performance, fuel efficiency, high-tech features, agile handling, a high-quality cabin, and comfortable seating, there are also some common problems reported by owners.
One of the most significant issues with the 2014 Ford Escape is the frustrating MyFord Touch electronics interface. This system is designed to provide smartphone integration and customization possibilities, but many owners have found it prone to glitches and slow to respond. The touchscreen icons can also be difficult to locate and press while on the move, making it a potentially dangerous distraction for drivers.
Another common problem with the 2014 Ford Escape is transmission issues. Users on CarComplaints.com have noted that the transmission on their vehicles often fails catastrophically and suddenly, with symptoms such as a "Transmission Fault" warning, not shifting properly, and losing all acceleration. The cost to repair this issue (on average) is relatively high, averaging around $4,340.00 for a complete replacement.
The 2014 Ford Escape also has some engine problems. The NHTSA has 307 specific complaints related to the engine of the 2014 Ford Escape, including issues with coolant leaking into the engine bay and causing fires, problems with overheating at mileages as low as 65,000 and below, and stalling at low speeds. A sticking EGR valve or dirty throttle body is most likely the cause of these issues, which can cause serious safety concerns due to lacking acceleration.
In addition to these issues, the 2014 Ford Escape also has problems with windows and windshields. Owners have reported tiny cracks or chips materializing into much larger cracks over a relatively short period, either entirely on their own or after getting hit by a rock on the open road. Typical repair charges range from $250 to $400 for a brand new windshield.
While the 2014 Ford Escape has many positive attributes, these common problems are significant and should be considered by anyone considering purchasing this vehicle. It is essential to have any potential issues thoroughly inspected and addressed before purchasing a used 2014 Ford Escape.

- Summary: NHTSA Recall Number 16V643 After 3 attempts in 2 years, it is become evidential that Ford dealers are deliberately NOT willing to complete this recall for customer, probably because it takes too much time. [XXX]: rear left door latch failed. Call Robinson Brothers Ford, 11455 Airline Hwy, Baton Rouge, LA 70816, was told there is no parts, so I had to replace it by myself using part bought from Amazon. 1st attempt: 23-Feb-2023 to 27-Feb-2023 at Robinson Brothers Ford, 11455 Airline Hwy, Baton Rouge, LA 70816 Called weeks in advance in order to complete all recalls, and called few days earlier to confirm door latch, and was told they have spare parts so I left the car there. All recalls were completed except 16V643, and I was told they had no spare parts by shop representative. Register cell phone number with them for spare parts update and NEVER receive any update till now. 20-Oct-2024: front left door latch failed. 2nd attempt: on 21-Oct-2024 call AutoNation Ford Katy, 20777 Katy Fwy, Katy, TX 77450, the lady (Christina) told me they have no spare parts. 22-Oct-2024: once again, I replace the door latch by myself using spare parts bought from Amazon. 3rd attempt: on 23-Oct-2024: I drove by AutoNation Ford Katy, 20777 Katy Fwy, Katy, TX 77450, the exact the same shop I called 2 days ago, the service representative (Austin) check the inventory, found 1 set of spare parts, and promised me recall can be completed in 24 to 48 hours. When I pick up the car 50 hours later, the job is NOT even started for one door. As such, I officially file this claim to urge NHTSA to investigate what is the percentage completion for this recall for Ford? It takes me 2-3 hours to replace 1 door latch, that may be takes too time for dealer and therefore they chose to put the safety of customer at the lowest priority, and bet on customer running out of patience to replace by themselves, just like I have done, TWICE. - Components: ENGINE
- Summary: Hello, I'm writing to see if the Ecoboost lawsuits also include 2014 Ford Escapes? Mine cut off on me while on the highway Saturday (XXX). The Engine failed while driving, no light or warning. This is even after me dishing out a little over $8k in 2021 when I purchased it used from Bommarito Ford in St. Louis. I had transmission/engine issues from the start. When the car stopped on me a few folks that work on cars pulled over to see if they could assist. They all said the same thing... that the engine was done... oil was everywhere. They kept asking if it overheated but my gage always stayed between C and H. No lights or warnings ever. It was horrifying to be going about 60 mph to hear something break and lose power without warning. I'm grateful no accident was caused while I merged over to the exit ramp shoulder. I had the car towed back to my apartment while I try to figure out how to get the engine repaired. I'm currently re-starting after a very messy divorce so I do not have extra funds laying around to have a new engine installed. Currently in Chapter 13 due to issues with the divorce. Now I'm catching the bus and I'm still dealing with his stalking/harassment. I've been told my additional warranty ended in June of 2023. I contacted Ford and they told me I would need to have their dealer look at the car which will be towing plus the $250 fee. But that my car type is not included in the class action. The dealer said the same, but I do have an ecoboost engine and have been having issues with the engine/transmission since I purchased it in 2021. Do you know how I could add my name to the Class Action? Thanks, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-10
- VIN: 1FMCU0GX4EU
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: My 2014 Ford Escape had run into coolant fluid issues such as leaking fluid and a cylinder misfire. Took it to a Ford dealership where they stated the only option for a fix was a replacement of the long block assembly. My car has just about 72,000 miles on it and it already needs an engine replacement due to coolant intrusion and the Ford dealership cited codes P0303, P0316, and P1299. These are codes that are referenced to Ford's recall of engines on Ford Escapes in the years 2017-2019, and it states it applies to Ford Escapes built from late 2015 to 2019. The 2014 Ford Escape experienced an unfixable engine failure that requires the customer to pay for replacement when Ford should be the one paying for damages. It is clear that their coolant intrusion failure affected more years of production that NHTSA has previously found. There is no reason a care with regular service should have its engine fail at 72,000 miles, and the driver shouldn't be shouldering the cost when this specific issue and PCM codes is commonplace among Ford Escape engines outside of the recalled production years of 2015-2019, or even limiting the recall to 2017-2019. Whoever decided to limit which production years applied to the engine coolant recall made a mistake and it needs to be revisited because Ford customers are being forced to pay for Ford's poor design failures.

2014 Ford Escape recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 15 recalls for different components of the 2014 Ford Escape.
- Manufacturer: Ford Motor Company
- Components: POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:GEAR POSITION INDICATION (PRNDL)
- Summary: Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2019 Escape, 2013-2018 C-Max, 2013-2016 Fusion, 2013-2021 Transit Connect, and 2015-2018 Edge vehicles. The bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission may degrade or detach.
- Consequence: A damaged or missing bushing may prevent the vehicle from shifting into the intended gear, and cause the vehicle to move in an unexpected direction. Additionally, the vehicle may roll after the driver selects the 'Park' position. Either scenario increases the risk of a crash or injury.
- Remedy: Dealers will replace the under hood shift bushing and add a protective cap over the shift cable bushing, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters, informing owners of the safety risk, were mailed July 1, 2022. Remedy parts are expected to be available in 4th Quarter 2022. Owner notification letters were mailed October 27, 2022. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 22S43.
- Manufacturer: Ford Motor Company
- Components: LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES:DOORS:LATCH
- Summary: Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2011-2014 Fiesta, 2013-2014 Fusion, 2015 Mustang, 2013-2015 Escape and C-Max, 2012-2015 Focus, 2014-2016 Transit Connect, 2013-2014 Lincoln MKZ, and 2015 MKC vehicles. These vehicles were previously recalled and repaired under recalls 15V-246, 16V-643 or 17V-210, however the repair may not have been completed properly. A component within the door latches may break making the doors difficult to latch and/or leading the driver or a passenger to believe a door is securely closed when, in fact, it is not.
- Consequence: A door that is not securely latched could open while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant.
- Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the latch date codes to confirm if the repair was done correctly, and replace the side door latches if necessary, free of charge. Owners will also have the option to inspect their own vehicle's door latches and enter the date codes into a website to determine if the latches are correct. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 27, 2020. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20S30.

We recently purchased a 2014 Ford Escape from Seeley Ford and Kia on Stadium Drive in Kalamazoo, MI. It was truly a blessing to find a car at such an affordable price. The car is not only easy to drive, but it also has a lot of great features. I particularly enjoy the technological aspects and the comfortable seats. Recently, we took it on a road trip from Mattawan, MI to Northern Michigan, around Gaylord, and up to the bridge, and we only spent less than $70 on gas. As we live on a fixed income, this makes traveling on a budget much more feasible for us. My husband and I both suffer from Fibromyalgia, which makes it difficult to ride for long periods of time. However, we experienced very little discomfort or fatigue during our trip to Gaylord and back home.

Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with my 2014 CPO that I purchased in May 2016. It's been a while since then, and I'm writing this review in December 2017. My car has about 48,000 miles on it and I have every option but the sunroof and towing package. Overall, I really like it! However, there are a few things that may prevent me from getting another one. As a 40-something woman who loves cars and has had a lot of them, I prefer cars that are more fun (GTI, Mini Cooper S, etc) but decided to get something completely different this time. What I love about this car is the engine, the steering, the handling, the seats, the ergonomics, and the safety features. What I don't love are the dash and console, which I find a bit ugly, and the rattles in the center console. Additionally, the interior trim pieces keep falling off and it isn't the easiest thing to see out of. To me, the drive is like that of an older VW (and I mean that as a huge compliment), but the quality issues annoy me. Used or CPO, I think this is a good value. New, I think it's expensive. If they'd take the mechanics of the car and put them in a German car skin, it would be perfection. I tend not to keep cars for more than a couple of years, but I think I'll keep this one for a while. I do miss being in a car vs. a crossover, so I'll probably get a station wagon next time, but that's just my personal preference. Lastly, I do think that more people should consider Fords than currently do. I test drove a bunch of foreign brands before I bought the Escape, and it was better than most of them, at least of what I wanted, which was a quick wagon that handled well and has good safety features like BLIS. Although I am a little worried about how the car will look in 3 more years, I'm still happy with my purchase!

In August 2013, I purchased my 2014 2L FWD Titanium model. Although I had a negative experience with Brandon Ford, where I purchased the car, and Ford's refusal to honor my $1,200 warranty for a shattered panoramic glass which took 3 weeks to repair, I have to say that overall, the car has been almost flawless. Despite waiting for months for the dealer to return my calls and for Ford to do the right thing, I still like the vehicle with little exception. It may not be as smooth as my Explorer AWD was, but the steering feel from the D/S is excellent and the driving experience is great. The economy has even gone up! It started around 22mpg avg and has gone to nearly 25mpg avg with only 8.1k on the odometer.

I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my experience with my 2014 Escape 2.0L turbo AWD. I've driven over 20,000 miles along the Colorado Front Range of the Rockies and I must say, the acceleration and handling are superb on twisty mountain roads and on 75 mph interstates. Even cross winds of 40 mph do not affect steering this car at high speeds due to a good aerodynamic design. The turbo engine gives rapid acceleration, even uphill, and is great when merging into the 75 mph Colorado interstate lanes from short entrance merge lanes. I've been keeping my car on the Ford maintenance schedule and have not had any major breakdowns or repairs. I purchased the Escape 2.0L Turbo AWD because I wanted a performance car with a large interior carrying capacity. I have no complaints and am exceedingly happy with my purchase. Thank you for taking the time to read my experience!

I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying your 2014 2.0 Eco Boost Escape and that it's been performing well for you. It's great to know that it has more power than your 1985 Mustang GT and gets around 22 to 23 mpg in the city commute, which is a 15% improvement from its V-6 predecessor. The engine is so impressive that it's even used in the Range Rover Evoque, which is a testament to its quality. As for the SYNC system, it's great to hear that it's been intuitive for you and that you haven't experienced any problems. Thank you for sharing your positive experience with us!

I recently purchased a used 2014 car with just over 14k miles. Unfortunately, I've experienced some issues from the start, but I'm optimistic that once they're resolved, everything will be alright. The transmission seems to stall between shifts, the AC has stopped working, and the gas mileage is not great, currently at 15.3 mpg for highway and city driving. Additionally, the automatic lights were draining my battery, but after replacing the battery and fixing the lights, I'm hopeful that the issue is resolved.

Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with 10 K radio. Unfortunately, it stopped working for an hour and the dealer couldn't explain why. They simply disconnected the battery to reset the issue. Additionally, I had an issue with the AC on a long trip from Detroit on a hot day. It stopped blowing for an hour, which was quite uncomfortable. Lastly, the gate inside handle broke loose and I had to get it fixed. Oh, and if you plan on doing an oil change, good luck removing the oil filter - there's just no room for your hand or any tool! Hope this helps.

The Ford Escape is a great ride, but it may require some maintenance after 100,000K. Unfortunately, I have had some issues with the transmission on both of my Escapes, including my current 2014 model which required repairs at 100,247 miles. While this has been frustrating, I still appreciate the overall quality of the vehicle. Thank you for considering my experience.

Be cautious of the certified vehicle line. Although the 99 point check sheet is supposed to ensure quality, it may not always be accurate. I purchased a car with 58000 miles and unfortunately, the battery died just three weeks later. While the dealer replaced it, I later heard a constant whine from the right rear wheel. Upon returning to the dealership, I was informed that it was a drive axle or wheel bearing issue. However, it turned out to be the rear differential and had to be replaced. Although it would have cost around 3500 for an owner to fix, the dealership had to cover the cost since they certified and passed the vehicle. As a result, I am quite disappointed with Ford's poor standards. It is important to be aware of the certified vehicle line, as it may simply be a way to increase the vehicle's price.

This car has been a headache for me for the past few months. The FWD version is not suitable for snowy conditions, despite what the dealership told me. Living in Michigan, I witnessed five Ford Escapes similar to mine get stuck during a small snowstorm. It's clear that 4x4 is necessary. The traction control in this vehicle is also subpar. Additionally, the car takes too long to heat up or cool down. Acceleration is also a problem, as it takes a long time to reach 70 mph. There is also water damage above the passenger door from a leak, which is concerning. The passenger door won't lock, which is a major safety issue. I have been putting off scheduling maintenance for a while, but now it's necessary. The fuel economy is also terrible. Overall, this car has been a complete disappointment and I am looking forward to trading it in for something better.
