2008 Nissan Titan problems
The Nissan Titan is a full-size pickup truck manufactured in the United States for the North American market by Nissan. It was named after the Titans of Greek mythology.
First generation (A60; 2003)
Development of the Titan began in September 1999, with design work under Diane Allen. Giovanny Arroba's TA60 exterior was chosen in late 2000, with a final production freeze in July 2001. The design language of the future truck was previewed by the 2001 Alpha T concept shown at the 2001 North American International Auto Show, which had previously developed through November 2000.
Production began on September 21, 2003, and sales on December 1, 2003. The Titan used Nissan's new full-size F-Alpha platform. This new platform was shared with the Nissan Armada and Infiniti QX56 SUVs, with all three manufactured in Canton, Mississippi, United States. The first generation Titan continued without a major redesign through 2015.

Common 2008 Nissan Titan problems
The 2008 Nissan Titan has been known for several common problems based on complaints from owners. The most prominent issue is the leaking rear axle seal, which was common in 2004-2006 models due to overheating or lack of ventilation. This leak can cause significant damage to the axle bearings and/or rear differential assembly if not addressed promptly.
Another issue reported by Titan owners is catalytic converter damage caused by a weak or failing fuel pump. This problem can lead to whistling or humming sounds while fueling up the truck and, in some cases, fuel pump failure. The damaged catalytic converter can result in reduced engine performance and increased emissions.
The 2008 Nissan Titan also had engine troubles, with some owners reporting a loud noise from the engine upon starting the vehicle, accompanied by vibrations and smoke emanating from the engine compartment due to an exploded plenum.
Transmission issues have also been reported in the 2008 Titan. Some owners have observed hard shifting and jerking while shifting, with some reports claiming that their trucks would stop abruptly while driving. These issues can be caused by various factors, including worn-out clutch plates, damaged gears, or low transmission fluid levels.
Lastly, the 2008 Nissan Titan had problems with the oil indicator, where the oil turns into a peanut butter-colored sludge without triggering the warning light, indicating severe oil contamination. This issue can lead to engine damage if not addressed promptly, as the contaminated oil can cause the engine to run hotter than normal, leading to premature wear and failure of engine components.
In summary, the 2008 Nissan Titan has had several common problems based on complaints from owners, including leaking rear axle seals, catalytic converter damage, engine troubles, transmission issues, and oil indicator problems. These issues can lead to significant engine and drivetrain damage if not addressed promptly, so it is essential to maintain the vehicle regularly and address any issues as soon as they arise.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-05-09
- VIN: 1N6AA07C18N
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: There is an issue with the fuel gauge. Not reading correctly and running out of gas. Needle is at half tank and it has run out of fuel. I’ve had this happen to me multiple times. Gage reads more than I physically have. I’ve even ran out of fuel on the freeway.
FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-04-20
- VIN: 1N6BA07C18N
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: I am writing in regards to a recall that has previously been serviced on my vehicle. I bought my 2008 Nissan Titan through a private party on 4/16/23. The truck had no issues until 4/20/23. The fuel gauge read that I had a quarter tank of gas. However I was driving to work that morning and all of a sudden the truck acted as if it would when one runs out of fuel. I was not able to use the breaks and the steering was near impossible. I was frightened as I had my baby in the truck with me and I easily could have caused an accident not being able to use my breaks especially. Once I got to the side of the road and we stopped "coasting" I called for help. I did have an individual bring me some gas just incase that could have been the issue. Sure enough once I put fuel in it the truck started up and I got to the closet gas station to fuel up. Come to find out once my gas gauge reads a quarter tank it is in fact empty. The truck had a recall serviced on 4/16/2010 to replace the fuel gauge sending unit. I took the truck in to be serviced on 4/24/23 because of the issue I experienced. I was told that it was more than likely the sending unit and it would cost me $600-$800 to have it fixed. Why should I have to pay for a cost that has already been serviced once? Is there a warranty on a recall that has already been serviced? Can this possibly be a defect in the recall that was already serviced?

AIR BAGS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-01-06
- Number Of Injuries: 1
- Crash: 1
- VIN: 1N6AA07D48N
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: In a low speed wreck (15mph or less) the air bag deployed sending the metal clip, holding the plastic Nissan emblem at the center of the steering wheel, flying. Hitting me right next to my eye at a very high rate of speed. Causing trauma to my eye and surrounding tissue. Missing my eye by less than an inch. If I would have been looking straight ahead instead of slightly to the right where the collision was, I would have lost my eye. How did this manufacturer allowed a piece of metal be installed in front of the air bag is mind boggling. Air bags deploy at speeds of 200mph, launching anything in front of them at that speed. I was very lucky, I hope this agency can warn everyone who owns a Nissan vehicle with this design of a metal clip holding the emblem at the center of the steering wheel. I have photos of the emblem, clip, steering wheel, air bag, and my injury showing exactly how/where the clip hit me by the cuts it left on my face in the shape of the clip. I tried to upload photos but received an error from the website. If you could contact me I would like to send you the photos. They prove without a doubt the facts started above. THIS IS VERY SCARY BECAUSE WE'VE BEEN TRYING TO TAKE VACATIONS ON THE TRUCK AND I DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING IT LIKE THIS, ESPECIALLY WITH MY THREE KIDS IN THE BACK. I took this truck out on the road and it was really impressive! There was so much room and it had great acceleration. Even when I pulled a popup trailer, the truck handled it with ease. I'm also happy to report that I get the same gas mileage as I did with my Chevy, but with a much better truck.
-
I see that you have owned a few different trucks over the years, but I must say that the Titan LE is by far the best one you have owned. The power is always there and the sound system is better than what you can get at home. The ride is smooth and the seats are nice, making it a great choice. I understand that you have been a GM man for 35 years, but the new 2009 F150's seats killed your back. The Titan has the extra power and nice seats that the Sierra offers. I hope you enjoy putting many more miles on your new truck!
-
You have a great truck! It's amazing that you've owned it for a year and it's still running like new. The power it has is impressive and it can outperform most American trucks. I'm glad to hear that you had a comfortable ride during your long trip from MS to OK to TX and back. It's also great to know that you've had no problems towing boats and trailers. The only thing that could have made it better is if you had the 4x4 model for the snowy winters in MN. Overall, it's a great truck at a better price than its competitors!

I use my 2008.5 truck for daily driving and towing a 4000+ LB boat around. After test driving the 1/2 ton GMC and Tundra, I chose the Nissan Titan because of its impressive interior and exterior looks and feel. The leather seats are of high quality and the dash controls and gauges are modern, well placed, and practical. The truck's performance is sure to put a smile on your face whenever you need it. Although the gas mileage is not great, I was aware of this when I purchased the truck. The only issues I have encountered are a squeaky rear underseat storage container and a tire pressure alarm that would not reset until 40psi was used.
-
I traded my Chevrolet Silverado for a Titan and the difference is night and day. I have a big V-8 and still get equal mileage as my Chevy with the V-6. The unique styling takes some getting used to, but I like how the seats are higher, giving me a better view of the road. The massive glass makes it feel like I'm riding around in a glass car. Although the fuel mileage is not great, I put the recommended amount of MOTORKOTE in the crankcase and it increased the mileage from 13 to 14.5. The ride is fantastic and very smooth. The stock stereo with 6 speakers sounds great, and the seats are big, which is perfect for me as a big dude. I've had it for 6 months and still struggle to park it, but overall, I'm really happy with my Titan.
